— Communications problem hampers bipartisanship attempt – Bernard Schoenburg
https://www.sj-r.com/opinion/20190814/bernard-schoenburg-communications-problem-hampers-bipartisanship-attempt
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Traditionally, the two political days at the State Fair are reserved for parties to enthuse the base with the message. Certainly, on Wednesday, when U.S. House Speaker NANCY PELOSI spoke at the Crowne Plaza to the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association brunch, it fit that script. And Thursday is GOP Day at the fair. But freshman Democratic Gov. J.B. PRITZKER framed the picnic he hosted (and paid for personally) at the Director’s Lawn at the State Fair as a bipartisan event, and said he invited all lawmakers, including Republicans. Well, House GOP Leader JIM DURKIN, R-Western Springs, said he never got an invitation, and ELENI DEMERTZIS, his spokeswoman, said some others in the caucus she checked with didn’t receive invitations either. . .Durkin said had he received the invitation, he probably would have attended.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Past and present candidates and elected officials who spoke at the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meeting Wednesday evening, August 14, 2019, at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream included Almiron, Corrigan, Diersen, Eckhoff, Fitch, Grant, Heidorn, Holder, Ives, Kachiroubas, Keller, Kinzler, Krzyzewski, Larsen, McCluskey, McGowen, Monino, Seppelfrick, Walsh, and Whelan. Meeting attendees included Baker, Bohn, Carlson, Caruso, Cooper, Crane, Davis, Falbo, Fitzpatrick, Grant, Henry, Holan, A & R. Jorgensen, Kachiroubas, Krzyzewski, Larsen, LeVan, Lofgren, Lollino, McCarthy, McNeily, Muehlfelt, Nathwani, Rash, Ryan, Shaw, Smith, Tatro, Veenstra, and Zaruba. Judge McCluskey announced his candidacy for the upcoming Judge George J. Bakalis vacancy. Larsen reported on what DuPage County is doing concerning the pot issue. Fitch reported on what Wheaton is doing concerning the West District City Council vacancy and the pot issue. Sadly, its seems like the majority of Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District are not interested in getting together and gathering information on the West District candidates, hosting a candidate forum, or recommending any of the 10 candidates who have applied to be appointed to fill the vacancy. Sadly, it seems like the majority of Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeemen are not interested in getting together and urging DuPage County, Wheaton, or Glen Ellyn to ban the sale of pot. Sadly, it seems like the majority of Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeemen side with my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes. They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems. They support those who slander and threaten me at MTRCC meetings. They support those who focus on a) stopping me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out and b) stopping everyone from reading those emails. They support those who discourage Republican candidates, elected officials, and organizations from helping sponsor Wheaton’s Independence Day fireworks and parades. The focus on turning everyone against me, including those who run the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream and those who ran the Wheaton Bowl. They work harder against me and harder against other conservatives than they have ever worked against any Democrat. – Dave Diersen

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Measured edibles will reintroduce THC to the sex, drugs and rock-and-roll generation — who, by and large, gave up smoking dope as they had kids and moved up the career ladder. I am already surrounded by seniors who get high when they go to concerts, movies or even just watch the sunset. I know younger folks who microdose in preparation for everything from writing a PowerPoint to boarding a plane. I am fully cognizant of the argument that you should only get high on life and that using THC is an escapist crutch to avoid reality. But as edibles (and soon drinkables) spread across the nation, it will be a huge improvement over those who abuse alcohol and become unbearably boorish. I can’t wait to be one toke over the line, sweet Jesus (again).)

They painted what GAO Analysts do as being a unique “trade or occupation.” They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, or veteran. They viciously demonized, denigrated, and condemned the fact a) that I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $82,579-$93,592/year, b) that much of what IRS Revenue Officers do is similar to what GAO Analysts do, c) that I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, d) that I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976, and e) that I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul. They were furious that I transferred with me almost 12 years of federal seniority, 30 days of unused vacation days, and 130 unused sick days.)

(FROM THE POSTING: Staying informed. Citizens have the responsibility to stay informed of the issues affecting their communities, as well as national and international issues, and to be active in the civic processes. This includes being well informed about the issues and candidates before voting in an election, getting involved in a political campaign or running for public office, or using their right to address the government through activism.)

In my opinion, the Daily Herald should obtain and publish at least the following information about all 10 candidates: How long they have lived in Wheaton, how long they have lived in Wheaton’s West District, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, their memberships in professional associations, why they want to be appointed to fill the vacancy, what they believe the three most important issues are that Wheaton needs to address in the next 2 years and how those issues those issues should be addressed, their political affiliation and activities, their civic activities, if they would vote for or against banning the sale of pot in Wheaton, what their position is on Wheaton’s Roosevelt Road corridor, if they would vote for or against requiring employers in Wheaton to use E-Verify, and what they have done that demonstrates they can carry out typical city council functions.)

Robbins, a former Illinois Park and Recreation Association board member, also ran unsuccessfully against Scalzo for the West District seat in 2016. Kmiecik finished third in another three-way race for the seat in 2009. Jafri, a finance and accounting consultant, lost to Tim Elliott for a District 4 spot on the DuPage County Board in 2016. GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— All politics is local. It should be extremely important to you who represents you in your municipality’s government. Residents of Wheaton’s West District have been represented in Wheaton’s government by Todd Scalzo for the last 10 years, but Scalzo has resigned.

It would be great if the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) would host a candidate forum for the seven Republican candidates who are seeking appointment to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy.

Those seven candidates are Edward Ahern, Jeffery Antonelli, Angela Blatner, Dave Diersen, Nancy Harding, Mark Kmiecik, and Robert McNeily.

Hopefully, all of the aforesaid seven candidates will a) attend MTRCC’s 7:00 PM Wednesday August 14, 2019 meeting at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream, b) announce their candidacies, c) and seek the support of the eighteen Republican Precinct Committeemen who represent Wheaton’s West District.

Those eighteen Precinct Committeemen are Joseph Caruso, Dave Diersen, Thomas Elsner, Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski, Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor McCarthy, Robert McNeily, Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.

Hopefully, MTRCC will gather relevant information about the aforesaid seven candidates and provide that information to the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen.

The goal of the candidate forum and providing information on the candidates is to help the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen recommend to Wheaton’s City Council the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the Wheaton West District City Council vacancy.

Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s August 14 meeting and a candidate forum if one is held: a) 6th Congressional District candidates Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti; b) DuPage County Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and Babette Holder; c) Wheaton’s mayor and City Council members; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni, Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen, Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino, and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard; h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.

It will be extremely interesting to see which of the seven candidates are endorsed by which of the aforesaid candidates, elected officials, and party leaders, and especially which candidates Ives and Sanguinetti might endorse because they have served on Wheaton’s City Council. – Dave Diersen

In the past, Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) straw polls at its Oktoberfest fundraisers had a big impact and raised lots of money for MTRCC. I organized those straw polls. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/democrats-2020-iowa-state-fair-food-fried-mary-anne-marsh
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Beyond the fried food on a stick and the iconic Butter Cow, another big attraction at the Iowa State Fair is the unscientific straw poll open to all attending the fair. In 2015, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump ran away with the poll. Hillary Clinton won the Iowa caucus and Trump came in a very close second behind Ted Cruz. Trump and Clinton eventually faced one another in the general election. This week’s straw poll is a reminder that the 2020 campaign is much further along than most people, and even many candidates, realize. The fact is elections — and the nomination process — are won in June, July and August. With only 182 days until the Iowa caucuses, Warren and Harris are on the rise, Biden and Sanders are fading, and the rest of the field is fried on a stick.)

Consequently, ever-increasingly, the Trump-haters in my neighborhood, in my precinct, in Wheaton’s West District, in Wheaton, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois dismiss me, belittle me, badmouth me, ostracize me, insult me, demonize me, denigrate me, condemn me, and even worse things. If they thought that there was any chance that the Wheaton City Council might appoint me to fill the West District City Council vacancy, they would work even harder to destroy me. I should write a book about those in my neighborhood, in my precinct, in Wheaton’s West District, in Wheaton, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois a) who are Trump-haters and b) who fear Trump-haters.)
https://nypost.com/2019/08/11/were-all-in-the-closet-trumps-hamptons-supporters-go-underground/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: While Trump attended two big-money fundraisers for the Republican Party and his 2020 re-election campaign at mansions in Southampton and Bridgehampton on Friday, many of his East End supporters are eschewing the spotlight — especially after last week’s calls for boycotts of billionaire Stephen Ross’ gyms because he hosted the president. “We are all in the closet,” said a boutique owner in Southampton who fears reprisals from his customers — most of them moneyed Democrats — if he speaks openly about his allegiance to Trump. “It’s like you have this disease and people want to run away from you.” A builder based in Westhampton worried that his customers would boycott his services if he reveals his support of the president. “People have really strong opinions here and if you go around wearing a MAGA hat, you really need to fear physical violence,” he said, adding the anti-Trump aggression comes mostly from summer residents. Trump won 51.5 percent of the vote among year-round residents of Suffolk County in the 2016 election, compared to 44.6 percent for Democrat Hillary Clinton. In 2008 and 2012, most of the county voted for Barack Obama. Despite the recent shift, many of Trump’s core supporters fear speaking out, especially during the summer months, when beachfront villages from Westhampton to Montauk are filled with left-leaning visitors from New York City.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: But apparently, the younger you are, the likelier you are to be untruthful, at least when applying for a job. Eleven percent of Millennials said they had lied on their résumés, and 14 percent of Gen Z respondents said they’d done it. Only 2 percent of Baby Boomers said they’d ever lied on a résumé. And they don’t feel bad about it. While 54 percent of men and 42 percent of women who lied in all age groups felt guilty about doing so, only 27 percent of Millennials did. The difference may be changing attitudes about employment and employers.)

https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/lifestyle/article/2001334657/do-you-need-a-higher-degree-or-is-work-experience-sufficient
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Employers are lured by your work experience, but you must have the relevant experience to appeal to them more. Work experience should highly relate with the job that you are looking for. Your experience has to show some aspect of growth. You are more marketable when there are quantifiable results from the time and effort you put into work.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nearly all college experiences begin with a series of orientation sessions. Most start with the assumption that you are the cursed offspring of a flawed society. You come to college not to be educated but to be reeducated. You have imbibed of racism, sexism, and homophobia. And for some outrageous amount of tuition that will send many of you into perpetual debt, the modern-day Gletkins of academia will purge you of these impure thoughts. The brainwashing will begin in orientation but will not end there. If you live in a dormitory, there will be required sensitivity sessions run by minions from the office of residence life. These generally are graduate students who are shouldering the intellectual rigors of a degree in education administration. The aim of these sessions, which are reminiscent of those imposed on Soviet factory workers to remove their “mechanistic thinking,” is to reeducate you to rid yourself of the values your parents taught you. Many of you, irrespective of discipline, will be compelled to complete a multicultural requirement. These courses are compulsory because otherwise no rational person would sit through them. Your multicultural requirement might be taken in African-American studies where, being a white person, you will learn that only whites, by definition, can be racists and all whites are racists. The evils of slavery will be pounded into you, even though your ancestors probably not only didn’t own slaves, but they also came to these shores long after slavery was abolished. Nonetheless, your skin color makes you guilty. But invoke a stereotype about black people based on their high crime and recidivism rate, and you will be admonished that to brush all black people with a single brush — especially without context — is racist. To characterize all white people as racists, however, is not a stereotype but an intellectual incision. You will learn that there is such a thing as “true truth.” This is the shared reality of an “oppressed” group whose common belief makes something true. Or in the profound words of Alexandria Octavio-Cortez, you can have moral truth without factual truth — whatever that means. In these classes, you will never say that the trans-Atlantic slave trade was the product of Africans who shifted the trans-Saharan slave trade westward. You will never point out that two African potentates, King Tegesibu of Dahomey and King Alvare of the Congo, were among the wealthiest men in the known world, having gotten rich by selling slaves. It is not that the administration doesn’t know what goes on in these classes, but to intercede would result in charges of racism and violation of so-called academic freedom. If you complain, your grade will crash to the floor. In gender studies, remember there are more than two genders. Never, ever say you can’t change your DNA. Women are equal to men in every way, and biology is not destiny. All apparent biological differences are really a function of culture. After all, we live in a world where trans-women should be able to get abortions. All genders and races should be in all the professions in proportion to their distribution in the population is the current dogma. Any departure from that is a function of cultural oppression. The fact that Asians disproportionately dominate math and science classes is a function of some cultural flaw. Only on the athletic field does pure competition exist. If you regurgitate this view of the world, apologize for being white, and check your white male privilege, you will do fine. Do these classes change attitudes? Yes, but not as the intellectual Gletkins think.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The crisis in local journalism is catastrophic — and it will get worse. More than 1,300 communities across the United States are without local news coverage, and thousands more have inadequate journalism. At the next recession, the collapse will accelerate. Studies have now validated what we all know intuitively: The disintegration of community journalism leads to greater polarization, lower voter turnout, more pollution, less government accountability and less trust. This problem is not going to be solved by a new phone app or an increase of a few pennies in digital ad rates. It’s time to try something dramatically different. The local media ecosystem of the future must have a much bigger role for nonprofit media and philanthropy. We accept this reality in the worlds of education and health care. It’s time to embrace it for local journalism. We believe people have an obligation to support libraries and symphonies. Now they have to support good accountability reporting.)

Melnik said she has no issue with the inconsistency of showing a recent date with a new degree and omitting an old one. . .Avoid phrases that needlessly date you, like “30+ years of experience.” Use “20+ years of experience” instead (25+ max). (FROM THE ARTICLE: Have you ever lied on your resume, in an application, or during an interview to get a job? Some of the common resume lies are about academic degrees, age, technical abilities and criminal records. In interviews, people tend to tell lies related to salaries, references, and complete work history. Getting caught lying can be grounds for firing and yet many people take these risks. . .A report from 2017 stated that 85% of job applicants were caught by employers using some form of dishonesty. So, perhaps tech workers are more honest than some other types of employees.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Why hasn’t the Daily Herald reported on a) the sale of pot in Wheaton, b) the Wheaton West District City Council vacancy, and c) the Roosevelt Road Corridor Study since May 30, 2019? FIRST: At its August 5, 2019 meeting, Wheaton’s City Council is scheduled a) to vote on “a resolution and draft ordinance relating to a text amendment to zoning ordinance prohibiting cannabis business establishments in any zoning district” and b) to set “August 26 as the Public Hearing date.” (https://www.wheaton.il.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08052019-1220 and https://www.wheaton.il.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/4222?fileID=6785 If you are a Wheaton resident, please join me in urging the Wheaton City Council to vote yes on the resolution and ordinance to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton. SECOND: 5:00 PM, Tuesday, August 6, 2019, is the filing deadline for applications to be appointed to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy. Sadly, Wheaton’s policy is to not disclose the names of the applicants or information about them, but instead, just the number of applications received. Please see the articles at the end of this email. So far, Wheaton has received 30 requests for applications, 4 complete applications, and 1 incomplete application. So far, to my knowledge, none of the applicants has publicly announced that they have filed. Because of that, I will be filing. In my opinion, not only Wheaton’s West District residents, but all of Wheaton’s residents should know who the applicants are before the filing deadline. If you become aware of someone who has filed or will file, please ask him/her to issue a press release and to include diersen@aol.com in the press release list. THIRD: During its upcoming Planning Session on August 12th, the Wheaton City Council will discuss the Roosevelt Road Corridor Study with its consultant, present questions for further exploration, and receive public comment from the audience to aid in planning. (https://www.wheaton.il.us/930/Roosevelt-Road). The study area includes the south side of Roosevelt Road between Carlton Avenue and Main Street which is in my precinct and the south side of Roosevelt Road between Carlton Avenue and Warrenville Road which is in my precinct and in Wheaton’s West District. Recently, members of the “Concerned Citizens – Rezoning Roosevelt Road” Facebook group posted yard signs (21 at last count) at homes on Arbor Avenue, Golf Lane, Park Avenue, and Warrenville Road in my precinct that say “PRESERVE NEIGHBORHOODS RETHINK REZONING.” – Dave Diersen)

(DIERSEN HEADLINE: Well, remember Brian Karem? He’s the White House Correspondent for Playboy. He’s also a CNN contributor. Former Special Assistant to the President and current Salem Radio Host Dr. Sebastian Gorka confronted him at a presser in the Rose Garden. He’s been called one of the biggest pigs of the press corps, known for his combative style with the press secretaries of the Trump White House. He likened Trump voters to the Nazi Party. He said that the attendees of the White House’s social media summit were willing participants of demonic possession. Gorka said that he called the president a “f**king idiot” when he refused to answer the questions being hurled at him. So, he just got his press pass suspended for thirty days, which Playboys vows to fight (via Washington Examiner):)

https://legallysociable.com/2019/08/01/preserve-neighborhoods-save-main-responses-cut-from-the-same-anti-development-cloth-part-one/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The suburb in which I live and the neighboring suburb both have proposed redevelopment ideas and each has attracted opposition from residents. Both sets of opposition have yard signs to voice their displeasure and residents have spoken at public meetings. Part One of this analysis involves the basics of the proposed projects and how this fits into what suburbs generally try to do. The Rethink Rezoning group is responding to a study commissioned by the city of Wheaton to improve development along the busy Roosevelt Road corridor that runs east-west through the center of the suburb. . .Neither of these projects are unusual for suburban communities. Indeed, they both attempt to take advantage of unique traits already in the suburb. In Wheaton, the Roosevelt Road corridor has been an area of interest for the city for decades. With tens of thousands of cars passing through each day, it presents an opportunity, particularly since it is just south of the downtown (and traffic does not necessarily turn off Roosevelt to go downtown) and north of the other major shopping area at Danada (along the busy Butterfield Road corridor). But, Wheaton has generally been conservative about what development they allow along this stretch. Compared to Glen Ellyn to the east or the Ogden Avenue corridor in northwest Naperville, the Roosevelt Road stretch in Wheaton is relatively void of strip malls, fast food restaurants, car repair places, and rundown facilities. Again: this has been an intentional effort to maintain a certain level of quality. The proposed changes would build on this by updating some uses (most suburbs utilize single-use zoning but this can be restrictive in certain areas) and try to encourage some cohesiveness across stretches. What is now a hodgepodge of offices, some older houses, some more recent office buildings, could have a more uniform character and present a more pleasing aesthetic. I don’t know how many people will walk along such a busy road but it certainly does not lend itself to that now. All of this could help improve aesthetics and bring in more revenue from taxes in a revitalized district. Having a more uniform plan could help bring in more money for the city which then helps relieve local tax burdens. . .If these projects are in line with suburban plans – let alone the long-term plans for each community – what are the residents objecting to? More on that in Part Two tomorrow.)
