So far, members of the following groups have not said that it was deplorable that my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old: anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors, and/or those who promote patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and/or retaliation and/or those who a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and/or the Illinois Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, c) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, d) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, and/or e) are operatives or dupes for the aforesaid.)
http://www.sj-r.com/opinion/20170906/bernard-schoenburg-pritzker-called-schaive-about-deplorable-idot-firing
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Controversy over past Illinois Department of Transportation hiring — and some dismissals made by Gov. BRUCE RAUNER’s administration in response — got prominent play at a campaign stop in Springfield last week by Democratic governor candidate J.B. PRITZKER. BRAD SCHAIVE, business manager of Laborers Local 477, helped introduce Pritzker when the candidate and his running mate, state Rep. JULIANA STRATTON, D-Chicago, stopped Friday at the local’s headquarters in the capital city as part of a bus tour. While an elected official should have strength and leadership, Schaive said, “it’s hard to have any of those other qualities unless you have compassion.” Schaive recalled that his wife, MELISSA, was among eight people the Rauner administration laid off from IDOT in July. The administration said at the time there was a “lack of work” for those let go, and a spokeswoman also said the action was “cleaning up past hiring mistakes and personnel practices.” Melissa Schaive had been with the state since 2003 and made $73,860 annually as an information technology procurement analyst. She also got a liver transplant last year and still needs a kidney transplant. Lawyers for Teamsters local 916 are working to overturn the termination. Schaive told the 250 people gathered Friday that she “lost her job because she chose to take my last name,” and because in his labor job, he “helps those who collectively speak.”)

LOS ANGELES TIMES
— Get ready for the next round in the battle over the Vietnam War – James Reston Jr.  (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who since 1966 have hinted/implied/argued/shouted at everyone that the United States lost the Vietnam War because of draft avoiders like me.  I sought and obtained student draft deferments 1966-1970 and a financial hardship draft deferment 1970-1971.)
http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-reston-vietnam-refought-20170903-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICE: There are two Vietnam wars, and the second is still going 40 years after the first ended. The United States fought the first one from 1959 to 1975 in the jungles, villages and airspace of Indochina. The second is the war over how that war, the first lost war in America’s national history, is remembered. This month, as Ken Burns’ 10-part Vietnam documentary is aired on PBS, the second conflict is sure to heat up again with renewed intensity. The positions will be fiercely argued. What was the war good for? Absolutely nothing, as the 1970 song put it? Or was it a heroic cause? The most important — and poignant — group who will offer answers to these questions is Vietnam veterans themselves.)

September 5 Evening Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Lt. Governor Sanguinetti’s statement on DACA (DIERSEN: Affirmative Action (AA), Diversity, and Inclusion are personal to me.  Democrats use AA, Diversity, and Inclusion to get rid of Republicans, and especially Republicans like me who are White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.  Ever-increasingly, Democrats use Dreamers and their supporters to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn Trump and his supporters as being White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things. From what I see, all Dreamers are younger and virtually all of them are minority and/or female. Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform.  Those who reject the immigration plank in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform could have tried to change that plank last year at the IRP State Convention, but they did not even try. Those who agree with Sanguinetti on providing a “path to citizenship” for illegals have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I am a White supremacist, a Nazi, a KKK member, a hater, a racist, a sexist, a bigot, and even worse things. I should write a book about them. They stress that my ancestors have been in America since 1844, that they all immigrated from what is now Germany, that I was baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, that I am White, that I am male, that I am conservative, that I am Republican, that since Trump won the Republican presidential primary last year, I have been a Trump supporter, and even worse things. They have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my parents, my grandparents, my great grandparents, and all the rest of my ancestors discriminated against minorities and against women and that I have directly benefited from that big time. They have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that because of the aforesaid, I should pay the price of AA, Diversity, and Inclusion. Because of the aforesaid, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

Emanuel spoke as Chicago Public Schools marked the first day of classes Tuesday. The mayor told students at Solorio Academy High School they “are welcome in the city of Chicago.” The Chicago Sun-Times reports that school officials say about a third of the school’s students are undocumented citizens. Emanuel said Chicago schools “will be a Trump-free zone.” Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday said the program known as DACA is an “unconstitutional exercise of authority by the executive branch.” Chicago is suing the Trump administration over its policy of withholding public safety grants from so-called sanctuary cities unless they agree to tougher immigration enforcement.)

ILLINOIS CPA SOCIETY
— 6 Certifications That’ll Build Your Cred  Today’s accounting and finance professionals have a lot to gain by adding the right credentials to the ends of their names. – Selena Chavis  (DIERSEN: I have three of these six – MBA (1976), CPA (1979), and Certified Internal Auditor (1981). In addition I have a master’s degree in accounting (1980), CPA license (1981), Certified Fraud Examiner (1990), Certified Government Financial Manager (1994), Certified Financial Services Auditor (1996), Forensic Accountant (1997), and master’s degree in financial markets and trading (1997).)
https://www.icpas.org/information/copy-desk/insight/article/digital-exclusive/6-certifications-that-ll-build-your-cred
(FROM THE ARTICLE: 1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) It generally goes without saying, but CPAs are highly sought for just about every accounting, auditing, business, consulting, finance, tax, and, well, you get the point—earning the CPA is a major professional differentiator that can land you just about anywhere, from your local accounting firm to the head of a Fortune 500 company. Earning a CPA is not for the faint of heart, however. Because this credential provides a multitude of opportunities, and has earned recognition for positioning holders as the nation’s most trusted business advisors, obtaining it isn’t exactly easy. On average, it takes CPA exam candidates six-and-a-half attempts to pass all four parts of the exam. What’s more, sitting for the exam can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 depending on the investment made in the exam and review courses and preparation materials. Plus, once you earn your CPA credential, you’ll also have to maintain it with ongoing accredited professional education. . .4. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) The CIA is the choice if you’re looking to differentiate yourself as an auditor with expertise in risk, control, and information technology. Granted by the Institute of Internal Auditors, the CIA comes with a price tag of $1,150 and requires candidates to have a bachelor’s degree and two years of auditing experience prior to testing. Like some of the other credentials mentioned, the CIA has three levels of exams, total six-and-a-half hours of testing, and takes around a year or more for most to complete. Don’t let that deter you, however, because the CIA is becoming an essential credential for auditors eyeing the coveted chief audit executive position, along with positive upward career advancement along the way. . .6. Master of Business Administration (MBA) The broad expertise that accompanies earning an MBA can open many doors for accounting and finance professionals. Unfortunately, outside of your undergrad degree, it’s the most costly acronym to add to the end of your name. US News & World Report notes the average cost of a two-year MBA program at one of the top 10 business schools in the U.S. topped out over $125,000 in 2016. Costs clearly vary based on the university attended, program type (full-time, part-time, or online), scholarships and grants potentially received, and any employer assistance aimed at helping you earn this esteemed degree (many Fortune 100 companies offer tuition assistance). But by all measures, this is an undertaking that takes serious consideration for most. Much like the CPA, there’s no easy path to earning an MBA, but it’s also a means to entry to greater career choices and higher-level—and higher-earning—executive positions. Credentials don’t come easy, and they certainly don’t come for free, but that doesn’t mean they’re unattainable. In fact, Robert Half International says 72 percent of CFOs will cover all or some of the costs of their professional employees’ certifications. Many also would cover the continuing professional education required to maintain certification. The reality is that keeping your skills current is vital to staying competitive and relevant in today’s business world. Regardless of which credentials you choose to collect, each one says something important about who you are as an accounting and finance professional.)

September 3 Morning Edition

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
— Calling all candidates – Editorial (DIERSEN: In Illinois, you should run as a Republican only if you can and if you will defend and advance the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform. Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform.  Illinois Republicans should defeat primary candidates who have acted against the IRP platform and/or who hint/imply/argue/shout that they will act against the IRP platform if elected/reelected. One could argue that because Rauner and his supporters act against more and more and more planks in the IRP platform, Rauner and his supporters should run as Independents.)
http://www.sj-r.com/opinion/20170902/our-view-calling-all-candidates
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Help Wanted: Seeking numerous people for often thankless job. Must be willing to work ridiculously long hours, be criticized by those also seeking this position, and be enthusiastic about shaking hands and kissing babies. Successful candidates will be able to raise significant amounts of money on a daily basis, keep their composure even when being yelled at, and be willing to defend every statement or idea they’ve ever shared. When considering the negative, it’s a wonder anyone runs for public office. But the positives can outweigh the negatives, especially for those who truly seek to be an agent for change in order to improve the lives of friends and neighbors, or who want to be a part of public policy decisions that right wrongs or benefit more people. It is those people — the ones who want to better their communities — we hope to see run for office in 2018. Besides the six statewide constitutional offices, all 18 of Illinois’ districts in Congress, 39 of the 59 seats in the state Senate and all 118 seats in the Illinois House are on the ballot. So are a number of county seats, including clerks, treasurers, sheriffs, assessors and county board members; regional superintendents of schools; and some judgeships. The 2018 election may have already seemed to be in full swing, largely because the race for governor has been prominent since the beginning of the year. But the actual kick-off to next year’s election starts Tuesday, if you go by the first date listed in the state Election Board’s 2018 Election and Campaign Finance Calendar. Sept. 5 marks the first day those from established political parties can begin circulating nomination papers to get their name on the ballot. Those nominating petitions you may be asked to sign in the coming weeks can’t be filed until Nov. 27 to Dec. 4, at which point the March 20 primary races will start to come into focus. It’s safe to assume there will be a Democratic primary race for governor, given that nine people have declared their intent to run. It’s possible on the Republican side, although a serious challenger has yet to emerge.)

THE HILL
— It’s time to build the wall and fix our immigration system – NED RYUN
http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/348995-its-time-to-build-the-wall-and-fix-our-immigration-system
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With President Trump likely to undo Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) next week, it highlights yet again that our immigration system is fundamentally broken. Our system of admittance is a decades old program based largely on nepotism and family ties, rather than any logical system of governance that benefits Americans. Rather than recruiting and attracting the best talent from other countries, our immigration system prioritizes bringing entire families. Combine this with our costly policies that allow illegal immigration across our southern border and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Jim Acosta’s press conference temper tantrum demonstrated a number of Americans no longer realize why a country would even control the flow of immigration. They stammer and stomp their feet about what they believe America stands for, but unfortunately are entirely uninformed on the history of American immigration policy. During the 19th century, America largely had an open immigration policy as the country expanded and moved west, although, individual restrictions were placed on contract laborers, criminals, and in some cases entire countries. Those immigration laws were rewritten over the last century to implement greater controls over America’s immigration policies. These controls are especially necessary as progressives created greater and greater welfare programs. Like it or not, we are a welfare society. Whether it’s healthcare, social security, unemployment, housing, or any of the other myriad of benefits Americans receive. Just Social Security and Medicare make up nearly 40 percent of the federal budget. Throw in Medicaid and you’re getting close to 50 percent. Naturalizing more citizens and enrolling more individuals with green cards further encumbers our welfare system. We know our welfare system is hugely overburdened and threatens to be entirely insolvent by within 20 years. Thankfully, reforms in 1996 prevented those with green cards from receiving many federal benefits until they have lived in the country for at least five years and met work requirements, but we cannot pretend like admitting more people into the country has no effect. The legislation recently introduced in the Senate, named the Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act (RAISE) bill, is not some racist screed. It’s a clear, point based immigration system, very similar to systems already in place in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Rather than admit people based on the luck of the draw or ties to family already in the country, the RAISE system grades specific qualities that are valuable for our society. That means more young, highly educated, fiscally prepared individuals that are likely to integrate well into American society. This merit based system would help attract some of the best talent from around the world to come to our country and become Americans. But unfortunately that’s just not enough to deal with our immigration problems. Without serious proposals that actually build a wall on our southern border, problems will just continue. When you hear the Democrats talk about the new plan for President Trump’s border wall, you’d be forgiven if you thought they were the party of fiscal restraint and responsible spending. They’re breaking out the apocalyptic language to call into question the need to secure America’s borders or do anything to prevent the stream of illegal immigrants. Which is ironic given the fact that roughly ten years ago, three Democrat Senators by the names of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden voted to fund the Yuma Sector Wall to stop the flow of illegal crossings (and now Yuma has seen a 70 percent decrease in illegal crossings since 2006). There are many costs involved with illegals coming into our country, from our education and health care systems to our welfare systems, but we cannot forget that one of the largest financial strains from increased illegal immigration is the increased cost for law enforcement and incarceration. Consider the Government Accountability Office’s study from 2011 in which 251,000 criminal illegals were found to have committed on average twelve crimes and been arrested on average seven times: hardly the best use of our law enforcement. That same study showed another interesting fact: 68 percent of the criminal illegals sitting in federal prison and 66 percent sitting in state prison were from one country: Mexico. In addition to law enforcement resources dedicated to repeatedly arresting the same criminal illegals, the cost to incarcerate criminal illegals is nearly two billion in some years: a study shows Americans paid $1.87 billion to “house imprisoned illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2014.” As more criminal illegals cross the border, that number will only increase. Those crimes not only harm Americans (and a great number of legal immigrants) but also sap valuable time from police officers. In California, thousands of prisoners were released early to make room for the tens of thousands of criminal illegal immigrants, which number over 72,000. This criminal element coming across the border also exacerbates the drug epidemic sweeping the country. Compare these annual costs of law enforcement work and incarceration costs to the cost of a wall, which some think for a wall of 1,250 miles could be as high as $21.5 billion. Considering our annual ongoing costs of dealing with criminal illegals alone and that still looks like a bargain. As much as media elites want to pretend otherwise, this common-sense policy approach with changing our immigration system and building a wall would protect American citizens and make America stronger by enticing the best workers in the world to immigrate by modernizing the system.)

POLITICO
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Those who promote DACA argue that DREAMers should get sympathy because their parents brought them to America before they were adults. Should those like me get sympathy because their parents raised them to be Missouri Synod Lutheran (MSL), conservative, Republican, and/or American? Should those like me get sympathy because their parents are German American and/or because their ancestors came to America while slavery was still legal? Should those like me get sympathy because they were born White and/or male?  Were it not for my parents, I might very well be the following like more and more and more people are: anti-Trump, anti-MSL, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.

(FROM THE EDITORIAL: “THE RIGHT to vote is foundational for the rights of Americans in our democracy.” It was refreshing to hear that fundamental fact about the importance of voting to American democracy given full voice by a Republican officeholder. Even better was that Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner’s words were accompanied by his signature last Monday on a bill that will remove obstacles to balloting by allowing automatic voter registration. In not going along with the general aversion of his party to making voting easier, Mr. Rauner sets an example that other states should follow. http://www.investmentnews.com/article/20170902/FEATURE/170909996/finra-whos-watching-the-watchdog
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you’re a broker, there are three things in life that are certain: death, taxes – and answering to Finra. Finra is the self-regulatory organization that makes sure the nation’s 3,700 broker-dealers and 631,000 brokers comply with securities laws and regulations to ensure that investors are protected and treated fairly. It has the power to levy fines and, in serious cases, bar brokers and individuals from the industry. If you want to be a broker or operate a brokerage firm, you must join Finra. No one argues against the need for regulation, but over the years the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Inc. has grown into a huge institution, one that generates hundreds of millions of dollars a year in revenue through membership fees and fines. It also maintains a reserve of about $1.6 billion and employs upward of 3,000 people, some of whom receive exorbitant salaries by industry standards. Finra wields enormous power over the lives of brokers and broker-dealers. Last year alone, it issued more than 1,400 disciplinary actions and barred more than 500 brokers from the industry. And yet people in the industry know little about how Finra operates, how it spends the millions it collects in membership fees and fines, and how it sets its regulatory agenda. Finra writes its own rules, meets behind closed doors and releases information if and when it deems necessary. Finra is the watchdog that no one is watching. “It is largely unaccountable to the industry or to the public,” David Burton, a senior fellow in economic policy at the Heritage Foundation, wrote in a February report. “Due process, transparency and regulatory-review protections normally associated with regulators are not present, and its arbitration process is flawed. Reforms are necessary.”)

(FROM THE THE ARTICLE: Federal employees now have an official way they can donate their time and money to their colleagues impacted by Hurricane Harvey and the following tropical storms. The Office of Personnel Management set up an Emergency Leave Transfer Program, which lets employees in the executive and judicial branches transfer unused annual leave to their federal colleagues within the same agency or another organization, who need additional time off. “We continue to reach out to impacted agencies to gather more information on the number of employees impacted by Harvey,” acting OPM Director Kathleen McGettigan said in a Sept. 1 statement. “As always, OPM stands ready to assist federal agencies in assisting their missions and in responding to the needs of federal employees.” OPM decided a emergency leave transfer program was warranted after talking to other agencies about the impact the storms have had on their employees.)

— Republicans file TRUST Act repeal bills while Rauner dodges questions
https://capitolfax.com/2017/08/31/republicans-file-trust-act-repeal-bills-while-rauner-dodges-questions/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Those aren’t going anywhere, of course, but filing legislation does make them look good to their constituencies. Gov. Rauner was asked about GOP legislator criticism about the TRUST Act yesterday, but he refused to answer because, Rauner said, it was an “off-topic” question and he was only taking questions about the school funding bill… (VIDEO) Less than a minute later, however, the governor answered a different off-topic question.)

— Get ready for another intra-party rumble
https://capitolfax.com/2017/08/31/get-ready-for-another-intra-party-rumble/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I’ve heard the $30 million number, too. Heaven help the governor, because the US Attorney won’t, if there was even an “understanding” that the initial round of staff firings was in any way tied to a $30 million campaign contribution. Also, Proft called House GOP Leader Jim Durkin a “pansy” on his radio show yesterday. So, things aren’t going well.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Rauner pivots to center as romance with right wing cools – GREG HINZ  (DIERSEN: Those in the “center” of the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) have always focused on driving out of the party those like me who support the IRP platform, that is, they have always focused on destroying the IRP. Especially since 2000, they have had great success in destroying the IRP. Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend their platform. Most commonly, those in the “center” are Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, and Green plants. Most commonly, they reject the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the IRP platform. Most commonly, they promote LGBTQ activity, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices. In Illinois, if you got elected or appointed to a government office or to a political office as a Republican, if you have not, and/or, if you will not defend and advance the IRP platform, you should immediately resign.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170831/BLOGS02/170839974/rauner-pivots-to-center-as-romance-with-right-wing-cools
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Things could heat up even more if Rauner signs a pending bill to guarantee abortion coverage for women on Medicaid and state employees. Doing so might infuriate much of the political right, but that didn’t stop the governor from recently signing an almost-as-controversial “motor voter” registration measure and a bill limiting the ability of local police to arrest immigrants who are in the country illegally. . .Such events sparked personal complaints to Rauner from Jim Durkin and Bill Brady, the GOP leaders of the Illinois House and Senate. In a meeting with him on Aug. 23, both complained about attacks on their members and asked him to step in, four sources close to the matter tell me. Durkin and Brady’s spokeswomen declined to comment on what they categorized as a private meeting. But in the wake of that get-together, the Proft group moved to run its own legislative operation without Rauner, sources close to the matter tell me. And Rauner began veering to the left on key legislative matters, notably praising the schools bill that he’s spent a month ripping as a “bailout” of Chicago Public Schools. Another source tells me some of the conservatives met a few days ago with Diana Rauner, the governor’s wife, in what is described as a “very difficult” session. At the moment, Rauner has no known opponent in the GOP primary. But this nasty divorce could play out in unexpected ways. One veteran GOP operative says it’s not quite clear who’s doing what. But other outside political consultants brought in by Rauner when Zolnierowicz left likely have told him that, in Democratic-leaning Illinois, it’s smarter to act like former GOP Gov. Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar. Rauner himself may not know. But continue to look for more rolling-pin-wielding in his bumpy marriage with the GOP’s hard right.)

MADISON RECORD
— Kyle McCarter: Rauner is ‘the best Republican Democrats have ever had’ – Ann Maher
https://madisonrecord.com/stories/511200480-mccarter-rauner-is-the-best-republican-democrats-have-ever-had
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Calling Gov. Bruce Rauner “the best Republican Democrats have ever had,” fellow GOPer State Sen. Kyle McCarter believes the sanctuary state bill signed into law yesterday will negatively effect the governor’s re-election hopes. “This is not just bad policy,” McCarter said of Rauner’s adoption of the Trust Act. “It’s bad politics.” The “sanctuary state” measure in Senate Bill 31 limits the role local and state police can have in enforcing federal immigration laws. While Rauner touts the Act as one that will improve “connectivity between immigrants and law enforcement, making Illinois safer for all residents,” critics like McCarter say it shows the governor “is not committed to protecting the citizens of Illinois but criminal Illegals.” Leading up to Rauner’s action yesterday, McCarter addressed criticism he faced for not backing his fellow Republican. McCarter said that party loyalty can only go so far. “You can’t overlook what’s right and wrong, and you can’t defend what’s wrong as though it’s right just because your party leader says this is the way it is,” McCarter said in a Facebook post. “We all need to be held accountable.” In a radio interview with radio hosts Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson at AM 560 in Chicago on Tuesday morning, McCarter said he was concerned about “my party” and its brand being tainted, or at least “confused.” He said that within the congressional district he is considering taking a run at – the 15th Congressional District currently represented by Republican John Shimkus – a majority in the 33 counties of the southern Illinois district voted for President Trump. “His immigration policy was one of the reasons they voted for him,” McCarter said. “I think this is going to negatively effect Rauner’s election.” When asked whether Rauner might face a primary challenge, McCarter said he wasn’t sure it was a practical idea as any rival would run against “a very wealthy man.” But he also said that primaries are good because they make candidates better, forcing them to focus on what they stand for. In a final segment of the radio program, Proft turned to an article in a news outlet Proft established – Prairie State Wire – that examines state contracts totaling $16.88 billion amassed for clients of Nancy Kimme, a Republican, whom he described as a “longtime inside player.” Kimme had served as chief of staff to the late Judy Baar Topinka, who passed away shortly after being elected state comptroller in 2014. After Topinka’s passing, Kimme turned to lobbying, and according to Proft, had worked out of the governor’s office under the “previous regime” before a staff shakeup in July. Proft asked McCarter about Rauner’s promise to “shake up” Springfield and turn around Illinois, as in his version of “draining the swamp.” “Unfortunately, Republicans in Illinois dwell in the swamp as well,” McCarter said. “It’s not just a home for Democrats. Cultures of corruption don’t change overnight, no culture does…typically what happens when it does change, you have spectacular principled leaders and it’s those leaders that stand strong and can really move culture in the right direction.” McCarter said he “knew the reality” of how things work in Springfield when he had asked a state agency director about employment for someone he knew. “I had asked a director one time in this administration if there was a place to provide a job to a man who was unjustly treated by the previous administration, and one of best workers we had in the state,” McCarter said. “And he told me he couldn’t do anything about that, but he told me that I should go to the firm of Nancy Kimme…I thought that was just a little odd.” Proft said, “The agency director couldn’t do anything but the shadow government could, if you wanted to enlist them at a price.” “Exactly,” McCarter said. “That is disappointing and shows you the depth of this culture of corruption.”)

WIRE POINTS
— A Particularly Disastrous Day For Illinois And Rauner (Mr. Rauner, That Is) – Mark Glennon
http://www.wirepoints.com/a-particularly-disastrous-day-for-illinois-and-rauner-mr-rauner-that-is-wirepoints-original/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Finally, on Monday, Rauner signed the Trust Act. People I respect who have studied it  closely (I haven’t) split on it’s legal importance. Some say it makes Illinois a “sanctuary” state while some say it just codifies court rulings and has symbolic importance only. But even that symbolic importance is huge. Many opponents of sanctuary cities, who comprise much of Rauner’s base, are absolutely livid and they don’t really give a damn whether it’s just symbolic. Rauner’s support is now getting national attention and derision. The bottom line is that both Illinois and Rauner lost big time on Monday, and it wasn’t just because of politics, spin, or Rauner’s bad communication skills. On the subject of communication, yes, Rauner’s staff has long shared blame and the recent turmoil in his staff left a void. But the primary failure is Rauner’s own. He’s seems forever unprepared. Though usually directionally correct, he gets facts wrong, exaggerates and sometimes just doesn’t know. He contradicts himself from one day to another. Platitudes suffice for arguments. Since he’s unquestionably smart and a true workaholic, he has no excuse for appearing to be so lazy about substance. Ironically, while his conservative base wobbles, the narrative prevails that right wing nutjobs now dominate his staff. Among other reasons why that’s false is that First Lady Diana Rauner, by all credible accounts, is the most powerful person on the team. I don’t know her but those who do say she’ smart, opinionated and driven, though less charitable synonyms aren’t uncommon. Most importantly, she’s a liberal Democrat and she pushes for liberal Democratic policies. To her and to her fellow party members in the General Assembly, I say this sincerely: Touché. You had an extraordinarily successful Monday, on both policy and politics.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— West Chicago Library Votes to Retain Age Inappropriate Picture Book – Thomas Madison  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, Democrats encourage children to engage in LGBTQ activity.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/west-chicago-library-votes-retain-age-inappropriate-picture-book/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On August 28th, the West Chicago Public Library Board voted 6-1 to retain the homosexuality-celebrating picture book This Day in June. IFI thanks you for your support in emailing the library director Benjamin Weseloh to share your concerns about this book. There were roughly 80-100 people in attendance, and 90 percent of them were pro-LGBT supporters of the book. Unfortunately, this is usually the case when book controversies arise. Those who seek to normalize disordered sexuality are far more passionate, tenacious, and bold than are those who oppose the normalization of sexual deviance. The Left seems to care far more about promoting lies to young children than conservatives do in protecting them from lies. Those community members who had the wisdom and courage to oppose this troubling picture book needed much more verbal support at the meeting. IFI is disappointed in the absence of local community support for those brave men and women. We know significant opposition to this book exists because of the hundreds of messages that were sent to the director, but emails alone are insufficient if real change is to occur. Sometimes people are unable to make meetings, but often emailing concerns represents indefensible cowardice or surrender. The supporters of the book came out strongly against IFI, explicitly attacking us and making numerous spurious statements. The most obviously false statement was that IFI is a hate group. IFI’s positions on homosexuality no more constitute hatred of persons who believe differently than does disapproval of polyamory or polygamy constitute hatred of polyamorists or polygamists. Leftists are either unable to understand this distinction or unwilling to admit it because they know that fallacious ad hominem attacks work. The most startling remarks made in support of the book were that the content was not sexual. This is a complete denial of reality and a reminder that people will pervert the truth to suit their own lifestyles. The book is specifically intended toward “helping” children recognize and accept the diversity of sexual preferences. It features men kissing men and women kissing women. Since when is romantic kissing or even simply kissing romantic partners not a sexual act? Some of the board members noted the importance of the library representing the diverse views found in its community. The speciousness of this claim is revealed in the absence of books on a host of topics. This absence is due—at least in part—to librarians imposing their moral views through the purchasing process. When they impose their views, it’s called responsible text selection. When conservatives want purchases to reflect their views, leftists call it censorship and book-banning. We were disappointed not only in learning how the board members voted but also in learning that regardless of their votes, the book would have stayed on the shelf. According to the parliamentarian, the policy of the board is to let the library staff decide for themselves the quality of material, so last night’s vote was a non-binding vote. The board’s policy is reflective of the American Library Association (ALA), the far-leftist organization that wanted children’s computers to have access to pornography) and which actively promotes homosexuality and the “trans” ideology. Should unelected library staff whose training comes through the highly politicized and leftist field of library science be granted such near-absolute autonomy?Ultimately, if community members want to see this inappropriate book moved to a restricted area—as it is in other local libraries like Downers Grove—or removed altogether, they will either have to convince the staff to move or remove the book, or West Chicagoans must elect better board members to change board policy. West Chicago Public Library employee Joan Happel posted this celebratory announcement on Facebook, “The library director’s decision is to keep the book where it is! That decision was never in question.” Happel evidently finds nothing problematic about a picture book for young children whose author said this: “When I wrote this story, I wanted Pride to be featured as realistically as possible. I wanted to see drag queens, guys in leather, rainbows, political signs, the Dykes on Bikes—everything you would see at Pride. I didn’t want any of it to be watered-down or sugarcoated. Lots of people have asked me, “Do you think that’s appropriate for children?” And my answer always is YES.” Unfortunately, numerous libraries throughout the country and in Illinois are using public monies to promote the normalization of homosexuality and the “trans” ideology. The battle against dissenting views—including Judeo-Christian views—continues. Those relatively few brave souls who step up to oppose deception—especially deception that harms children—need many others to come alongside them. IFI wonders how many area pastors showed up to make statements about this book. Here is a breakdown of how the West Chicago Library Board voted and their respective term expiration years.)

https://www.stripes.com/news/pentagon-expands-policy-to-upgrade-vets-bad-paper-discharges-1.485038#.WaaQ7BHxZZI
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Defense Department on Monday issued a sweeping policy change to afford more leeway to veterans seeking upgrades to their other-than-honorable discharges. A memorandum dated Aug. 25 instructs the Army Review Boards Agency — the office charged with changing military records — to give “liberal consideration” to veterans looking to upgrade their less-than-honorable discharges, or “bad paper,” because of mental health conditions or traumatic brain injury, sexual assault or sexual harassment and outlines what should be considered when deciding an upgrade. In 2014, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel had ordered the Army Review Boards Agency to give consideration to veterans looking to upgrade their less-than-honorable discharges because of post-traumatic stress disorder. The new memo expands on Hagel’s order after years of veterans asking for government recognition that troops are, in some instances, affected by service-related mental health conditions that change their behaviors and lead to disciplinary problems. “This new guidance is something that veteran advocates should be really excited about – it’s what we’ve been asking for from the Pentagon for years,” said Kristofer Goldsmith, an Iraq War veteran who has fought for 10 years to change upgrade procedures. “This memo is filled with signals that there may yet be hope for the thousands of veterans who have been unfairly suffering the effects of bad paper.”)

WASHINGTON TIMES
— Bruce Rauner, betrayer of the Illinois GOP – Cheryl K. Chumley
http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/aug/29/bruce-rauner-betrayer-illinois-gop/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There used to be a time when Republicans stood for certain non-negotiables — free markets, lower taxes, limited governments and yes, law and order at the borders. Then came Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner. And all the Republicans go — whaat? The Republican — repeat, Republican — governor just signed a bill into law limiting the ability of police to work with feds on immigration. Specifically, the new law “prohibits police from searching, arresting or detaining someone solely because of immigration status, or because of so-called federal immigration detainers,” ABC News reported. Local authorities ostensibly can still contact federal immigration folk and hold illegals in jail cells if there’s a criminal warrant for their arrest on file. But come on, now. What Rauner really signed was a sanctuary bill. He can spin it however he wants — and boy, did he. His side argues the bill is far from a sanctuary measure because it still allows for communication between locals and feds, and it makes clear the state has to abide federal law. But that’s smoke and mirrors. The fact that the language is nebulous enough to be having the debate over whether it’s sanctuary or not is proof in itself that it’s sanctuary enough to be interpreted by any leftists at the local levels — the first responders on law enforcement — as permission to protect and shield illegals. “This took months and months of difficult negotiations,” he said, during the highly touted, highly celebratory bill signing, complete with mariachi ban performances and speeches. “[But it helps Illinois] continuing to be a welcome state.” Welcoming state — that’s code for Hey Illegal, Come Here. It’s the language Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel uses when he insists his city will stay a welcome refuge for illegals, no matter what President Donald Trump does in terms of border crackdowns. It’s the defiant rhetoric New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio screams when he symbolically middle-fingers the White House on immigration controls. But Emanuel and de Blasio are Democrats — so yeah, that’s what they do. Flout the law and flaunt their progressive-socialist-globalist selves. Rauner? Once more, for the people in the back of the room: he’s a Republican. Go back to Paragraph One, the part where it says Republicans are supposed to stand for law and order — “republic” is in the name, for crying out loud — not democratic wispy-winded will of the mob. Did Rauner not get the manual? Illinois may be heavy on the Democrats, and Rauner may simply be trying to do some good ol’ fashioned politicking to save his poll numbers. But stepping toward Democrats on border security is not a winning platform. And hey now, lookie here — Rauner is indeed up for re-election in 2018. From Politico, December 2016: “Illinois Gov. Rauner drops $50 million into 2018 reelection bid.” Seems he’s trying to walk both paths, simultaneously — Democratic and Republican. What a perfect time for a primary candidate to emerge.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— IL GOP WARNS NOT TO BELIEVE “MISINFORMATION” CIRCULATING ABOUT IMMIGRATION LAW
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/08/il-gop-warns-not-to-believe-misinformation-circulating-about-immigration-law.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Party leaders are being told that the bill Governor Rauner signed into law Monday concerning how state and local law enforcement are to deal with non-citizens is really no big deal and not to overreact. They say some media and “other influencers” are not being truthful with party members and conservatives about what the new law does. The misleading sources say the law is to protect those in Illinois that are in America illegally by banning contact between local law enforcement and federal immigration officials unless local law enforcement has been notified of a federal criminal warrant concerning the illegal. In addition, local and state law enforcement are protected from accountability if a person they didn’t detain due to illegal status commits a crime. But that’s not accurate, the ILGOP leadership says. Effingham area’s Brian Milleville says the email was disturbing and confusing to most he’s talked to. When asked for a comment, Milleville told Illinois Review,  “I can only comment right now on what former law enforcement officers both state and local, in-state and out-state have told me. That is that this law does nothing but thwart federal law and endanger the citizens of Illinois in the name of political correctness and political pandering.” “I also know, based on what others have told me in response to SB31,” Milleville said, “that yesterday was the day Rauner officially lost his re-election.” “it’s our job to make sure” the governor succeeds, IL GOP Chairman Tim Schneider (also a Cook County Board Member) and IL GOP County Chairmen Association’s President Randy Pollard (also Rauner’s Downstate Chairman) wrote in and email sent out Monday night:)

Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform.

REAL GOP ILLINOIS
— ANTI-AMERICAN: Rauner approves $1M grant for group behind sanctuary state bill
https://realgopillinois.com/2017/08/29/rauner-approves-million-dollar-grant-sanctuary-state-coalition/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s official: thanks to GOVERNOR BRUCE RAUNER, Illinois is now a sanctuary state. Rauner signed SB31 into law Monday morning, surrounded by a coalition of open border groups, proudly undocumented immigrants and Democrat officials. Over the weekend, Rauner also signed two other popular Democrat bills – an automatic voter registration bill and a gender ID bill, which allows transgender people to change the gender on their birth certificates. Rauner’s allies getting the heat for sanctuary state bill  Rauner’s conservative allies can no longer claim the Governor is a conservative – but will they still support him after this betrayal of principle? As more conservative voters learn of Rauner’s betrayal, they are taking to social media to express their outrage and anger. The outrage is quickly spilling over at Rauner’s supporters. Rauner’s allies know the sanctuary state time bomb has been detonated and they’ve been hit with the shrapnel. The wounds are deep. They will not heal. There’s more. Rauner Administration doled out $1 million to immigrant group behind SB31. An investigation by Real GOP Illinois reveals that the Rauner Administration continued to pay a state grant of nearly $1 million dollars to the group who pushed the sanctuary state bill, SB31. The group, ILLINOIS COALITION FOR IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE RIGHTS, was approved to receive more than $956,000 in state funds and received more than $500,000 in funds approved by the Rauner Administration despite the budget impasse. Look….Governor approved these amounts in 2015: 8/17/2015 – $148,119.21, 8/11/2015 – $187, 368.70, and 8/11/2017- $134,907.66 . . . The Rauner Administration also approved $684,000 in state grants for a group called MIGRANT EDUCATION, INC. . . . What is Migrant Education, Inc. anyway?  How horrible is Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights? The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights is a group that promotes open borders. Why is it receiving any state money when Illinois’ debt backlog exceeds $14 billion. In 2013, the group also spearheaded the bipartisan legislation to allow undocumented immigrants to get Illinois driver’s licenses. With Rauner’s approval of automatic voter legislation, the stage is set for large-scale voter fraud. With a Republican Governor like Rauner, who needs a Democrat?)
