http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-first-generation-college-students-parents-met-20161205-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: From filling out forms and writing essays to building a resume and gathering letters of recommendation, applying to college is a rigorous part of high school. But for 16-year-old Bryan Dominguez, the stress is magnified. Unlike many of his peers at Buffalo Grove High School, he doesn’t have anyone at home who’s been through the process. The son of Mexican immigrants and the oldest of four children, Dominguez, of Wheeling, will be the first in his family to go to college. “The whole concept of college is very confusing in general to me and my parents,” he said. “All I know is my one goal in life is to go to college. Being the first person in my family … is something I hold very close to my heart.” Recognizing first-generation college students have unique needs, Arlington Heights-based Township High School District 214 developed a field trip for its students to tour two colleges with their parents as part of learning more about the entire process.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— How to Help Working People – Editorial  (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that the federal government overpaid me and gave me retirement, health insurance, vacation days, sick days, and other benefits that were too generous.  In my defense, a) I earned a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) I earned job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) I earned a job-related professional license when I was 33. Further, many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/05/opinion/how-to-help-working-people.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: THE GOVERNMENT AS MODEL EMPLOYER Mr. Obama has issued executive orders to raise pay and improve conditions at companies that do business with the government. The orders, which require contractors to pay employees at least $10.10 an hour, provide paid sick days and report wage-and-safety violations to procurement officials, have value beyond helping federal contract employees. They also set an example for the entire private sector to follow. As president, Mr. Trump will be free to ditch these executive orders. As a private employer, his own approach to low-paid labor indicates that model-employer orders would be the first to go. But in his new job, Mr. Trump will be the nation’s chief executive. Does he want to be known for lowering basic standards?)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/page/ct-identity-politics-clinton-democrats-perspec-1130-20161129-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Should political candidates appeal to particular racial, ethnic or gender groups? Or should they broaden their message to appeal to all groups?  Such are the questions that presidential campaigns ask themselves in the circular firing squad of blame that follows a big loss. Four years ago, the big word for Republicans after President Barack Obama’s re-election was “diversity.” After the party had lost the popular vote in five of the previous six presidential elections, the Republican National Committee’s “autopsy” report called for aggressive outreach to blacks, Hispanics, Asians and other growing nonwhite demographic groups that were not voting much for Republicans. Alas, that approach evaporated with the Grand Old Party’s nomination of Donald Trump. Result: The GOP has lost the popular vote in six of the past seven elections — yet bagged enough electoral votes this time to win the White House.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Megyn Kelly’s lunch with DuPage Republicans – LISA BERTAGNOLI (DIERSEN: Megyn Kelly spoke at Dan Goodwin’s outstanding Annual Holiday Luncheon Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Westin Hotel in Lombard. She was interviewed by Indiana Governor Elect Eric Holcomb.  The 500+ attendees included Cubs players David Ross, Kyle Schwarber, and Pedro Strop; current and former federal officials Biggert, Hultrgen, Kinzinger, LaHood, and Roskam; current and former Illinois officials Bellock, Brady, Biggins, Coladipietro, Connelly, Daniels, Dillard, Fortner, Ives, Lauzen, McConnaughy, Millner, Munger, Murphy, Oberweis, Reboletti, Sanguinetti, Wehrli, and Winger; current and former county officials Berlin, Bucholz, Cantore, Carlin, Cronin, Eckhoff,Elliott, Fichtner, Grant, Grasso, Grogan, Henry, Hinds, Jorgensen, Kachiroubas, King, Krajewski, Mazzochi, Murphy, Painter, Puchalski, Redick, Ruscitti, Schillerstrom, Schultz, Zaruba, and Zay; township officials Anderson, Dabrowski, Kain, Keller, and Valle; current and former party leaders Brady, Claar, Donovan, Durante, Fisher, Marchese, Minor, Porter, and Schneider; judges Birkett, Diamond, Fawell, Guerin, Jorgensen, Kinsella, Kleeman, McJoynt, and O’Shea; and many others including Bond, Gidwitz, Fitzpatrick, Marquardt, Proft, Ricketts, Shaw, and the Wagners. This outstanding annual event benefits the New Directions Affordable Housing Corporation.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20161129/NEWS07/161129914
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On Nov. 28, while the rest of the city was recovering from Thanksgiving, 600 movers and shakers—mostly Republicans from DuPage County—were at the Westin in Lombard for Daniel Goodwin’s annual holiday lunch. Goodwin, a former Chicago Public Schools teacher who is principal and chairman at Inland Real Estate Group in Oak Brook, holds the invitation-only, private luncheon for his friends. It always features a name-brand speaker (George W. Bush and Bruce Rauner in 2014) and this year, that speaker was Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, who is promoting her new book, “Settle for More.” If your invitation got lost in the mail, don’t fret. Here’s a recap of what you missed. *Selfie opps with World Series champion Chicago Cubs Kyle Schwarber, David Ross and Pedro Strop. The three hung out in a roped-off corral before lunch, smiling for photos with dozens of guests. Also on hand: Chicago Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts, who is reportedly being considered for a cabinet position by Donald Trump. *Wayne Messmer, former Cubs public-address announcer, delivering “God Bless America” and “The Star Spangled Banner” before lunch was served. Messmer, who has performed the National Anthem for Blackhawks, Bears and White Sox games, delivered straight by-the-book performances of both songs. *Lunch with 140 politicians. According to Goodwin, elected officials made up a quarter of the lunch bunch. Goodwin called on two, Illinois Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti and Gov.-elect Eric Holcomb (R) of Indiana, to stand and be recognized. *Mass-autographed copies of Kelly’s book. $32.39. *Holcomb’s 40-minute interview with Kelly, on a stage that held two Christmas trees, two American flags and a menorah. Kelly, careful to the point of near blandness, said she thought the media had learned “very little” during the campaign; that she hoped the “magnanimous Trump, not the thin-skinned, petty Trump” would inhabit the Oval Office; that she would have loved to have interviewed Hillary Clinton during the election cycle; and that Steve Bannon, Trump’s pick for chief strategist, tops her interview wish list. *A two-minute video about New Directions Housing, Goodwin’s nonprofit that provides affordable housing for people who need it, and a gentle ask to contribute. Rodger Brown, New Directions president, said the luncheon, which is primarily a social function and not a fundraiser, usually brings in about $50,000 for New Directions.)

POLITICO
— Megyn Kelly’s top interview choice? Steve Bannon  ‘What’s wrong with centrist?’ she asks, thinking of Fox News – NATASHA KORECKI
http://www.politico.com/states/illinois/story/2016/11/megyn-kellys-top-interview-choice-steve-bannon-107658
(FROM THE ARTICLE:  President-elect Donald Trump’s top White House strategist Steve Bannon hasn’t had kind words for Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly; still, Kelly said Monday she’d like to sit down with him one-on-one. Bannon has criticized both Fox News and Kelly specifically, telling the Hollywood Reporter: “Rupert is a globalist and never understood Trump. To him, Trump is a radical. Now they’ll go centrist and build the network around Megyn Kelly.” “My response to that is, we already are centrist,” Kelly said Monday. “What is wrong with centrist? Must the whole nation be polarized now, even the news organizations?” Kelly, visiting here as part of a national tour to promote her new memoir, Settle For More, was interviewed by Indiana Governor-elect Eric Holcomb at the private event, which was hosted by Inland Real Estate CEO Dan Goodwin as part of a holiday fund-raiser. “To delegitimize all of the media has real implications that as a journalist, I think are dangerous,” Kelly said. “And we should put the pause button on accepting this narrative that the media are scum and they’re disgusting and they’re all in the tank and they’re not trustworthy, which I do not believe. I just do not think it’s true.” She also spoke of the amount of “disinformation” during the campaign. “I do think this year was a free-for-all,” Kelly said. “To try to fact check (Trump) would be exhausting. He really told several …. things that were untrue by the hour in the course of an hour. And it was sort of accepted … I hope that doesn’t set a precedent for other politicians.” Kelly marveled that Hillary Clinton never appeared on her show though she said she tried to book her throughout election. “She actually isn’t on my list anymore.” What does she think the media has learned from this past election? Kelly said she did think there was some soul-searching by journalists who completely wrote off Donald Trump and found themselves shocked by the outcome on Election Day. But for the most part: “Very little,” she said, to laughter. “We’re not an introspective group. I think the media in my experience … most of the journalists I know are tough, they’re shoe-leather reporters, they care about getting it right. Nine out of 10 of them make no money. They don’t have any kind of glamorous life and they’re just trying to be First Amendment advocates.”)
— Todd Ricketts ‘honored’ to be under consideration for post with Trump – NATASHA KORECKI
http://www.politico.com/states/illinois/story/2016/11/todd-ricketts-talks-possible-trump-cabinet-post-role-in-fundraising-107645
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts said on Monday that it is “an honor” to be under consideration for a top post in the Trump administration. He met with the president-elect last week. Trump has discussed naming Ricketts as deputy commerce secretary. Ricketts is the son of billionaire TD Ameritrade founder and conservative donor Joe Ricketts, and the brother of Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, a Republican. Another brother, Tom Ricketts is chairman of the Cubs. “The reality is, it was an honor to be invited to interview. If something comes of it, that’s great. If nothing happens, I still will have felt honored to be part of the process,” Ricketts told POLITICO Illinois. “We had a really good conversation but nothing was set in stone. A thousand things can happen, so we’ll wait and see. We’ll wait until it’s all officially, official, official.” Family members were not supportive of Trump during the primary season, something the candidate noticed. At one point, Trump tweeted that the family “better be careful, they have a lot to hide!” Trump then threatened to launch ads attacking the family, “telling them all what a rotten job they’re doing with the Chicago Cubs.” In the general election, however, family members came through for Trump. They took control of a super PAC called Future45 and Todd Ricketts reportedly helped raise $30 million from other groups, while Joe and Marlene Ricketts donated $1 million to groups supporting Trump. Ricketts said Monday that he and Trump laughed off their personal differences. “We supported other candidates in the primary, but there was never a time when we weren’t going to support the Republican nominee for the general election,” Ricketts said. Ricketts said his fundraising apparatus ended up filling a void left by other Republicans who traditionally played that role, like Karl Rove. “We had an entity and an organization and relationships that made it easier for us to be that entity to support Trump than many others,” Ricketts said. Ricketts said he believes there is a mandate to address working class wages. “We’ve seen wages stagnate among working class Americans and those are the people who put [Trump] into office,” he said. “So the first thing we need to do is generate some economic growth. I think the quickest way to do that would be some tax reform, we need Dodd-Frank reform, we need Obamacare reform. And with those things I think we’re in the right direction.”)

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/28/us/professor-watchlist-is-seen-as-threat-to-academic-freedom.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new website that accuses nearly 200 college professors of advancing “leftist propaganda in the classroom” and discriminating against conservative students has been criticized as a threat to academic freedom. The site, Professor Watchlist, which first appeared Nov. 21, says it names those instructors who “advance a radical agenda in lecture halls.” “We aim to post professors who have records of targeting students for their viewpoints, forcing students to adopt a certain perspective, and/or abuse or harm students in any way for standing up for their beliefs,” wrote Matt Lamb, an organizer of the site. The Professor Watchlist is a project of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that says its mission is to educate students about “true free market values.” Charlie Kirk, its founder and executive director, wrote in a blog post that “it’s no secret that some of America’s college professors are totally out of line” and that it was time to expose them. But Julio C. Pino, an associate professor of history at Kent State University in Ohio who is among those named on the site, said in an interview, “What we are seeing with this site is a kind of normalizing of prosecuting professors, shaming professors, defaming professors.” “The broader issue it raises is: What kind of country is America going to become in the next four years?” he added. Professor Pino said professors should not fight the creators of the list directly but instead seek allies on and off campus to address what gave rise to the atmosphere that allowed the website to flourish in the first place.)

— The MSM Is Right: There Is a Racist Party in America – Tom Trinko
http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/11/the_msm_is_right_there_is_a_racist_party_in_america.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The mainstream media (MSM) are right.  There is a political party today that has racism as a core value and is working incessantly to keep blacks down.  It’s the Democratic Party.  Of course, since Democrat politicians never say what they really believe, most Democrat voters aren’t aware they’re supporting racism. Like their predecessors who fought a war to keep slavery legal, who founded the KKK, who passed the Jim Crow laws, who fought for school segregation, and who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, modern Democrat politicians are constantly working to ensure that blacks be poor, ignorant, and totally dependent on the government. Slave-owning Democrats believed that blacks were not really smart enough to run their own lives. Modern Democrat talking heads constantly declare that in a country where Japanese Americans could go from Democrat-mandated prison camps to having one of the highest per household incomes in America, without Democrat help, blacks somehow can’t manage to do anything.  It’s the same paternalistic attitude that earlier Democrats used to justify slavery. Of course, the new slavery is different from the old: instead of picking cotton for hours in the blazing sun, modern blacks only have to vote Democrat, settle for unsafe neighborhoods, and be willing to live with the fact that their children will never get a decent education.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lazy is a pretty good way to describe much of the press coverage of Trump. Many of the newspaper, magazine and online news reporters and TV hosts, like Megyn Kelly (a reported $ 9 million a year) are part of the elite, self-absorbed celebrity class. Walk though the newsroom of the New York Times, the  Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Time, the New Yorker or The Atlantic and you’ll run into scads of graduates from the top three journalism schools (Missouri, Northwestern and Columbia) and Ivy Leaguers. They are not deplorables.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A bill introduced Wednesday in the Illinois General Assembly would punish any businesses that help the federal government build a wall along the U.S. southern border by placing them on a “Prohibited Investment List” alongside companies that boycott Israel and do business with Sudan and Iran.  Building the wall between the U.S. and Mexico was a major promise President-elect Donald Trump made to voters during his successful presidential campaign. It is also the first goal of Trump’s “10 Point Plan to Put America First.” Trump said he will “begin working on an impenetrable physical wall on the southern border, on day one. Mexico will pay for the wall.” The proposed legislation submitted by Rep. Will Guzzardi (D-Chicago) would amend the Illinois Procurement Code to prohibit any state agency from “entering into a contract subject to the Code with a business that contracts with the federal government to build a wall along the border of Mexico and the United States of America.”)

— BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS: Money for illegals, but not for schools? – Steve Small, Dunlap
http://www.pjstar.com/opinion/20161118/letter-money-for-illegals-but-not-for-schools
(FROM THE LETTER: Now that the election is over, we need to be ever vigilant to legislative moves done quietly in veto sessions, lame-duck sessions, etc. One such bill, was passed last May in the Illinois Senate (SB 2196) on a primarily partisan vote — 30 to 19 — with the support of only two Republican state senators (Christine Radogno and Chris Nybo). This bill would provide taxpayer-funded college tuition financial aid for undocumented immigrant students. The measure would add Illinois to the five states that grant immigrant students financial aid for college education regardless of their legal status. Already, Illinois is one of 18 states that allows any status immigrants to qualify for lower in-state tuition and set up a private college fund. This bill then moved to the House, where it languished in the Rules Committee until Nov. 9 — the day after the election — when it magically appeared as “approved for consideration and placed on the calendar order for a third reading.” We need to flood our state reps with outrage over this type of maneuvering! We were just asked to agree to three additional tax increases in Peoria County due to a lack of state funding for roads, schools and veterans care … yet there seems to be plenty of money for illegal non-citizens. It just never ends in the state of Illinois. Please make some noise!)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A left-wing charity organization with unknown sources of money is providing the funding for protests around the country — some of which have turned into violent riots — that have threatened a divided nation’s ability to unify after a contentious presidential election. The Progress Unity Fund is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization — the same classification as the Red Cross. The group’s mission is to “provide a progressive alternative to mainstream charities,” according to its IRS filings. The fund provides the financial backing for Act Now To Stop War & End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition, a left-wing activist group that began organizing “emergency protests” immediately after Trump’s election. Cities where ANSWER held protests included: Chicago, New York, DC and San Francisco, among others.)

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/12/books/review-megyn-kelly-tells-tales-out-of-fox-news-in-her-memoir-settle-for-more.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Even had there been no news in Megyn Kelly’s new memoir, “Settle for More,” the book would have drawn a considerable audience. Ms. Kelly, the 45-year-old anchor on Fox News, has emerged as this presidential election’s unlikely feminist heroine and Hildy Johnson, the intrepid gal reporter who made herself indispensable to the brass and resisted the herd mentality of the men around her. She was the hen in the Fox house, taking it upon herself to ask at nearly every turn: Shouldn’t we be concerned that the Republican nominee for president is profoundly disrespectful of women in his public discourse? And accused of being a sexual predator at that?  That man, Donald J. Trump, is now America’s president-elect. After reading Ms. Kelly’s book, scheduled to be published on Tuesday but obtained early by The New York Times, I must say I feel nervous for her. According to her book, Mr. Trump did not take kindly to Ms. Kelly’s questions, and he appeared to retaliate in creepy, personal ways. Many journalists are already concerned that he has little regard for their professional responsibilities or First Amendment rights. “Settle for More” won’t allay their fears.)

He also wrote about the tendency of some vehicles to roll over, to jump from Park into Reverse gear and to power off with a loss of all controls and airbags while being driven. . .In addition to millions of other recalls in the ’80s and ’90s, Mr. Ditlow and his organization achieved lemon laws in all 50 states to protect consumers. FORD AUTHORITY
— This 97-Year-Old Swede Drives A Brand-New Ford Mustang GT – AARON BIRCH  (DIERSEN: How old are you? What is your position on age discrimination?  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized me, viciously denigrated me, and viciously condemned me as being old. This spring, when I was only 67 years old, I bought a new 2016 Ford Mustang.  I bought a new 2013 Dodge Charger R/T Max when I was 63.  I bought a new 2005 Corvette when I was 56.)
http://fordauthority.com/2016/11/this-97-year-old-swede-drives-a-brand-new-ford-mustang-gt-video/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There is an unwritten rule that those of a certain age retire, hire a geriatric nurse or move into an assisted living facility, and just generally give up on ever having much fun ever again. Lennart Ribring, a 97-year-old man living in Sweden, has opted not to follow protocol, instead buying himself a brand-new Ford Mustang GT with a manual transmission and cramming as much driving fun as he can manage into whatever time he has left. According to Road & Track, Mr. Ribring is the oldest Ford Mustang owner alive, and regardless of whether or not that’s true, he’s inarguably just about the coolest. Surprisingly, this is not Lennart Ribring’s first Ford Mustang; he bought a first-generation example way back in the 1960s, and he’s “hardly thought about another car since then.” The above video from Ford Sweden was put together to tell Ribring’s unique story to the world, and in the process, it demonstrates that a passion for driving knows no bounds – not age, nationality, gender, religion, or race. Way to do Ford fans everywhere proud, Mr. Ribring.)

— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD WITH BIG COLOR PICTURE IN THE NAPERVILLE SUN: Naperville: Local reaction to Trump election runs gamut from ‘scary’ to ‘thrilling’ – Suzanne Baker, Erin Hegarty, Hannah Leone and Denise Crosby
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/ct-nvs-local-react-presidential-election-st-1111-20161110-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: System need ‘a jolt’  Peter LaBarbera is thrilled by the outcome of Tuesday’s election. “This is a repudiation of the elitism that has come to surround the Democrats,” said the Naperville man, who is president of Americans For Truth and a conservative critic of equal rights based on sexual orientation. LaBarbera said he wouldn’t call himself a Trump supporter — he voted for Ted Cruz in the primary. But it was Hillary Clinton’s stance on abortion and homosexuality that was in opposition to his faith, he said. “Hillary Clinton would have threatened liberty itself,” he said. “People have to stand by what they believe.” He also said Trump was brilliant tapping into the anger and frustration of “the forgotten man” and “average Joe.” “They felt government did not speak for them. That includes the Clintons, or the Bushes for that matter,” LaBarbera said. As a result, he said, the pundits, media and Democrats were shocked by the strength of Trump’s momentum. LaBarbera also said Republican friends who initially said they would never vote for Trump changed their minds at the last minute. “I do think this is a huge shift,” which LaBarbera described as almost “Reagan-esque,” referring to the president’s election in 1980. “The system did need a jolt,” he said. “We are going to have to wait and see what a united government will produce.”)

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/11/10/police-investigate-a-video-of-trump-voter-being-attacked/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: **Warning: This video contains explicit language and violence. Viewer discretion is advised.** Police are investigating the beating of a man in the North Lawndale neighborhood by a group who yelled that the victim “voted for Trump.”  Police said it was unclear what motivated the attack, the day after Donald Trump won the presidential election, saying it started after a traffic altercation. It was not immediately clear if the man was a Trump supporter. Video of the attack was posted Wednesday on YouTube. It shows a man being beaten by a group of people while his car sits in the middle of an intersection. A person recording the video can be heard saying, “You voted Trump. You voted Trump.”  The Chicago Tribune reports, that the man, David Wilcox, said he voted for Trump but no one in the crowd would have known. Police said a 50-year-old man was attacked and beaten by three males and two females at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Kedzie Avenue. One of the attackers stole his car and fled the scene, according to police. In the video, the victim appeared to try to get back into his car as he was being attacked, and tried to pull one of the assailants out of his car. Other attackers continued to the beat him, and appeared to steal some belongings that fell out of his hands and pockets. A longer version of the video was posted on Twitter, with profanity-laden music laid over the audio. In that longer version, the victim is seen being dragged off, while hanging on to the driver’s side of the car.   “This is unacceptable and must be condemned by everybody,” said Rev. Michael Pfleger, in response to the video. “Violence is never an acceptable response. Emotions are raw coming out of this election, but frustration, anger and despair do not give permission to be violent.” Chicago police said the victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. No one was in custody Thursday morning. Area North detectives were investigating.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The nation’s pollsters are still dithering over errors they made in election predictions. Maybe it is a teachable moment. Maybe not. Meanwhile, there are  new findings which reveal “fundamental differences” between voters who favor President-elect Donald Trump, and those who side with Hillary Clinton. They are stark and telling. A huge majority of the Trump voters, for example, describe themselves as “typical Americans”. The Clinton voters? Not so much. “Even beyond the political and ideological divides between Trump and Clinton supporters, the two cohorts showed striking differences in how they describe themselves, both in terms of attributes, lifestyle and personal affiliations. The survey asked respondents to check each description that applied to them,” reports a new Pew Research Center poll. “Notably, the widest gap in views between Trump and Clinton supporters was over whether the term ‘traditional’ described them. About 7-in-10 Trump voters said it did (72 percent), compared with just 31 percent of Clinton voters,” the pollster notes. Find more numbers in the Poll du Jour at column’s end.)

The process starts online. – Elise Viebeck (DIERSEN: If you wanted a position in the Trump Administration, what would you stress?  I would stress a) that I worked for GAO for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels (currently $92,632-$120,427); b) that I worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels (currently $77,899-$88,286); c) that I passed the CPA examination and the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt; d) that I am a licensed CPA, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Financial Services Auditor, and Forensic Accountant; e) that I have a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU, an MBA from Loyola, a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT; and f) that I served on the Executive Committee of the Association of Government Accountants Chicago Chapter for 13 years.  I would stress that I know a lot about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  I would stress that I know a lot about those in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican. I would stress that I would be highly qualified to serve on a committee that would assess the qualifications of those from Illinois who seek positions in the Trump Administration.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— What’s Your Ideal Community? The Answer Is Political – Emily Badger
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/04/upshot/whats-your-ideal-community-the-answer-is-political.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The American political map that has emerged over the last half-century, with blue cities and red beyond, is a product of both the ideological realignment of the two parties and geographic sorting among voters. It also raises a fascinating question about how our politics are shaped by where we live. Is it simply that people who are already liberal choose dense urban environments and conservatives choose more suburban living? Or do these places influence how we feel about government — and each other — in ways that make us more liberal or conservative? Political scientists, fortunately, cannot randomly assign people to cities, suburbs or rural outposts and then wait to see if their politics adapt. But their theories of why density might matter for partisanship add a provocative layer to how we think about the differences among us that are more often defined in an election year by education, income or race. A large Pew survey two years ago of American political life found that self-described liberals overwhelmingly said they’d prefer to live where the homes are smaller and closer together but where the amenities are within walking distance. Conservatives chose the opposite trade-off: big homes, spaced farther apart, but with schools and restaurants miles away. The question got at a pattern underlying politics today: Beyond our disagreements about taxes, welfare or health care, partisans also fundamentally favor different kinds of places.)
