I think the whole point is to create some type of controversy for the day. And this is old school. It comes out of the old playbook. We’ll deal with it,” Durkin said. Durkin said Republican House legislators typically attend a luncheon on Governor’s Day, with some taking on speaking roles. But he said he’ll be on the House floor. . .Rauner is expected to speak at a Governor’s Day breakfast, as well as attend State Fair events in the afternoon during a rally.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/bluesky/originals/ct-james-damore-fired-googler-20170808-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But unlike government employees, who have some free speech protections, private employees in the U.S. have little legal recourse if companies choose to retaliate for things they say at work or at home. In fact, most non-union private sector employees can be fired for almost any reason — or no reason at all. “Any claim that [Damore] brings will have only a negligible chance at success,” said law professor Paul Secunda, who directs the labor and employment law program at Marquette University. What’s more, firing Damore may have kept Google on the right side of the law, if the company or its employees felt that the memo had created a work environment that was hostile to women. Adam Galinsky, chair of management at Columbia Business School, said companies may have a legitimate reason for firing someone for expressing views that disrupt the professional environment. “I think that the firing was the appropriate response here,” Galinsky said. “I think if they didn’t fire the employee it would have created a lot of internal unrest among the women who work at Google.” In his defense, Damore could claim under the Civil Rights Act that he was fired for being male or for speaking out against anti-male discrimination, but Google could counter that it actually fired him for the attitudes he expressed about women, which aren’t protected. “He would have to show that if a woman had made similar comments about women’s superiority for jobs, that woman in a similar situation would not have been terminated,” , said Shannon Farmer, a partner at Ballard Spahr who represents employers. “That’s probably a hard thing to prove.” On Monday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent a note to employees that said portions of Damore’s memo “violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace.” He didn’t say if the company was taking action against the employee. A Google representative, asked about the dismissal, referred to Pichai’s memo.)

From working for the federal government for almost 30 years, I learned that the Democrats who run the federal government will waste your career and get rid of you if you are not a Democrat, and especially if you are a Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986. Further, non-veteran White males who are seeking a job with the federal government should be advised that with only rare exceptions, a) the longer that you are a federal employee, the less likely that private sector employers will hire you, b) your career will be wasted and you will be gotten rid of if you do not make GS-13 ($94,610) by age 25, GS-14 ($111,801) by age 30, GS-15 ($131,508) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service ($161,900) by age 40, c) you will be expected to help your superiors and supervisors get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran, and d) virtually everyone despises if not hates federal employees, former federal employees, and federal retirees.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Chicago Trib Demagogue Who “Identifies” as Reporter, Goes After State Rep. Ives – Laurie Higgins  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the Chicago Tribune promotes gender confusion and LGBTQ activity.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/chicago-trib-demagogue-identifies-reporter-goes-state-rep-ives/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I thought my view of the Chicago Tribune couldn’t get lower and then I read a piece by Mr. Kim Janssen on State Representative Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), one of the most courageous, ethical lawmakers in Springfield. Last week, Rep. Ives posted a link to my article titled “Christians Must Exit Government Schools” on her Facebook page. Subsequently, Janssen wrote an article titled “Lawmaker compares teachers who support transgender rights to ‘dirty old men,” ostensibly about Rep. Ives, which was published online Friday night. As I predicted, the Trib waited to publish it in their Sunday print edition rather than publishing it in the slim and little-read Saturday edition. It seems that the Trib powers-that-be want to use my politically incorrect writing to do as much political damage to Rep. Ives as possible. Clarification for the Trib: Lawmaker Ives did not compare teachers who support alleged “transgender rights” to dirty old men. I compared teachers who expose children to obscene material to dirty old men. Further clarification: Gender-dysphoric persons have no ethical or moral “right” to use opposite sex restrooms and locker rooms. In an email to Rep. Ives after his article was published, Janssen doubled-down on the absurd claim that objectively male and objectively female persons have a “right” to access opposite-sex private spaces, accusing Rep. Ives of having a “history of opposition to transgender rights.” Janssen’s assertion reveals his ideological bias. “Trans”-identifying persons have no more ethical “right” to use opposite-sex facilities than do I or Mr. Janssen. The current manifestation of the sexual revolution is not a fight for equal rights or a fight to gain rights that have been denied to some group. Artificially feminized men and artificially virilized women are declaring that they deserve special, a-historical privileges. They have decided that while all other humans must use private spaces that correspond to their objective, immutable biological sex, they—that is, “trans”-identifying persons—may use private spaces that do not correspond to their objective, immutable biological sex. They are demanding to be treated differently from most humans. Perhaps a better way to define what gender-pretenders are doing is to say they have arrogated the unilateral authority to declare that all spaces in which humans undress or engage in bodily functions will no longer correspond to objective, immutable sex but, rather, will correspond to subjective, internal feelings about one’s sex. “Trans”-identifying persons, however, have no authority or right to decide that feelings trump objective sex when it comes to accessing private spaces. In his “news” article about Rep. Ives—really an article about my article—Janssen cites the ethically impoverished Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which labels IFI a “hate group” based on our views of volitional homoerotic activity, marriage, and the “trans” ideology, views with which the SPLC disagrees. The only way IFI, which holds orthodox theological views, can be deemed a “hate group” is by redefining hatred.)

FEDERAL NEWS RADIO
— Draining the swamp: Now what? – Mike Causey  (DIERSEN: Just kidding, but Trump should nominate me to head OPM.  My bachelor’s degree from NIU in personnel management.  Personnel management was my area of concentration for my MBA.  I have almost 30 years experience working for the federal government, almost 3 years experience working for the Post Office, almost 9 years experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which as a GS-12 Step 1-5, currently $79,563-$90,173, almost 18 years working for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10, currently $94,610-$122,991. Since 1989, GAO has used Nesterczuk’s “banding” to get rid of its employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://federalnewsradio.com/federal-report/2017/08/draining-the-swamp-now-what/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The surprise decision of George Nesterczuk to withdraw as a candidate to head the Office of Personnel Management cheered federal unions and some, maybe many, feds who remember the Reagan years as a nervous time to be a fed. But his withdrawal from consideration can also be viewed as a blow to the administration’s promise/threat to shake, rattle and roll the federal bureaucracy, making it skinnier and more responsive. And less fireproof. Or not. It is equally possible that the next OPM director, when nominated and confirmed, could come in with an even tougher agenda, but with less knowledge of how the civil service systems function. Nesterczuk’s departure — five months after he was nominated — is also an example of the problems many agencies are facing because so many key political jobs are either vacant or held by appointees from the Obama administration. The rudderless OPM has been without a confirmed director since 2015. Although the agency is little known outside of government and outside of Washington, it plays a critical role in the work lives of civil servants and retirees. Nesterczuk’s first federal job was as an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. After leaving government, he was active in Republican politics in Maryland and ran Ronald Reagan’s campaign in the state. He was later appointed as associate director for executive personnel at OPM under its controversial director Donald Devine. During the Reagan years, many federal workers — and especially federal and postal unions — felt unloved, at best, and under attack at worst. Nesterczuk drew additional union fire for helping set up a Bush administration initiative called the National Security Personnel System. It was a Defense Department program the administration hoped to expand to other agencies. Under it, managers would have the ability to set employee pay within bands (rather than the traditional 15 grades) based on their performance. Unions balked at it, and complained that they had little input. As a result, the 200,000 workers put under the NSPS were all from outside union bargaining units. Pay raises for many exceeded the regular annual federal pay raises. This being Washington, each side had a conspiracy theory with each claiming both success and the moral high ground. The Bush administration said it was proof that when motivated and given more opportunities, workers rose to the challenge. Unions said the same thing, in reverse. They claimed that political appointees at the Pentagon gave NSPS workers bigger raises to prove that the new system worked, And possibly stick it to unions too. In any case, the Democratic Congress unraveled it and the 200,000 feds who had been under the NSPS were blended back into their previous grades, but often at higher pay. For critics of the Reagan administration’s approach to the federal workforce, Nesterczuk is credited/blamed for working under and closely with Devine during what some people refer to as the “Devine Years.” One former congressional staffer-turned lobbyist who followed the federal-postal beat said: “Remembering that the demise of the CSRS retirement plan occurred as a result of the bipartisan agreement between Democrat Tip O’Neill and Republican Ronald Reagan to bail out Social Security by forcing new federal employees into that program, Mr. Nesterczuk’s previous tenure at OPM was marked by no significant lasting cuts in employee benefits, the congressional establishment of the successful Federal Employees Retirement System (over the objections of Nesterczuk and his old boss [Devine] who wanted only a “super IRA” for feds), and the start of significant membership growth by at least two civil service unions that have sustained their efforts to this very day. The unions may cheer Nesterczuk’s withdrawal, but it is useful to remember that his past record is one of ineffectiveness. Now President Trump has a chance to nominate someone who can really do some damage.”)

Charles Percy. Lydon quit three weeks ago as the governor overhauled his staff and more than two dozen of his inner circle were either fired or quit in protest. Pfister will be paid $75,000. Pfister’ most event job is four years as the associate director of state outreach for the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. The think tank was founded by Richard Fink, who heads the Koch Industries lobbying group in Washington, DC. Charles Koch is also a board member of the Center. The Wall Street Journal has called the Mercatus Center “the most important think tank you’ve never head of.” The Koch brothers have given more than 100 million to conservative and libertarian policy and advocacy groups. Rauner has also hired a deputy director of communications Beth Tomev. She started earlier this week, but no announcement was made. She will be paid $117,000. Tomev has been a public affairs consultant, worked at Fox News Chicago, as Walter Jacobson’s producer, and taught communications and journalism classes at Columbia College and Loyola University. “I did not know what I was getting into when I took Tomev’s class,” according to a review of Tomev on Rate My Professor. “Her lectures are nonsensical, she takes up class time with irrelevant stories, grades unreasonably tough without providing clear expectations for assignments, and has purposely ambiguous exam questions that can tank your grade. All for an intro course. Would not recommend to anyone.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois conservatives are plentiful, but they’re just not well-organized, and the Leftist media so rarely includes conservative perspectives that many are misled to believe conservatives are extinct in the Land of Lincoln. But conservatives are really not that rare in Illinois, they just need to know who each other are and meet up to encourage one another, says Carol Davis – the co-founder of West Suburban Patriots. That’s why she and Janet Shaw started the ball rolling on a long overdue gathering of Illinois conservatives. The event, “Strategy 2017: From Outrage to Action,” will be held August 18 and 19th at the Diplomat West Banquet Hall in Elmhurst, IL. The forum starts Friday afternoon with American Majority doing Candidate/Campaign Team Training. Matt Batzel, the trainer American Majority is providing, led the movement in Wisconsin when Scott Walker was under attack during the recall effort. The training will be followed Friday evening by a Meet & Greet. Saturday morning, Catherine Engelbrecht from True the Vote will speak, with several election integrity sessions to follow. Saturday’s luncheon speaker will be former Kansas 1st District U.S. Congressman Dr. Tim Huelskamp, now the new President of The Heartland Institute. The afternoon sessions will be social media training and a session entitled “Lightning Round: SOLUTIONS” will feature short, fast-paced presentations from organizations with REAL solutions conservatives to learn and support. Dinner will be sponsored by FreedomWorks, with keynote speaker C.L. Bryant. He is a reverend and a black conservative activist with the TEA Party since the beginning.)

— VA whistleblower gets job in Trump’s new accountability office – NIKKI WENTLING  (DIERSEN: When will Trump put me charge of GAO? Just kidding. I blew the whistle on patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation at GAO. In 1988, when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)
https://www.stripes.com/news/va-whistleblower-gets-job-in-trump-s-new-accountability-office-1.481509#.WYS7DhFSRZI
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Two years ago, Brandon Coleman was placed on paid leave from his job with the Department of Veterans Affairs as an addiction therapist after he reported poor care for mental-health patients at the Phoenix VA hospital — the epicenter of the agency’s wait-time scandal. After reporting his concerns, managers opened internal investigations into Coleman and accused him of misconduct, he said. Coleman claimed it was retaliation and he spent 18 months on leave while settling the dispute with the VA. Now, Coleman, 42, is about to take a new position with the VA in which he can influence how whistleblowers are treated within the agency. He’s been assigned to VA headquarters to work on behalf of whistleblowers who still face deterrents to speak out, like he did. Coleman reports to Washington, D.C. in mid-August, where he’ll be part of the new VA Office of Accountability and Whistleblower Protection, which is led by Navy and Air Force veteran Peter O’Rourke. The office was established with the intention of making VA officials more aggressive in finding and removing bad workers and protecting the whistleblowers who help them do it.)

Coulter, who has a history of making very controversial — and some might say offensive remarks went off when she was asked whether or not weed should be legal. “You can legalize all the drugs you want when there isn’t a welfare state. No marijuana makes people retarded, especially when they’re young.” he debate started when Coulter’s fellow panelist, Ana Kasparian brought up the racial differences between blacks and whites when it comes to marijuana charges. Coulter pointed to a study that revealed black people are more likely to lie about their weed use than other races. However, she didn’t say who did the study or any information about the study to back up her claim. WASHINGTON POST
— How would you handle a forced retirement? – Michelle Singletary  (DIERSEN:  My Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement offer in 1997 when I was 49 years old.  One way that I have handled that forced retirement is to spend less money.  I spend less money a) because I spend 10+ hours in my home each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out and b) because I have at least $72,135 less each year or $6,011 less each month or $1,387 less each week  or $198 less each day to spend because my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old.  My GAO salary in today’s dollars was $122,991 a year, but my Civil Service Retirement System pension is only $50,856 or $72,135 (59%) less a year.)

— No going back: Anthony Scaramucci’s White House job could cost him $7.5 million – Gregory Korte
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/08/03/anthony-scaramuccis-white-house-job-could-cost-him-7-million/531376001/
(FROM THE ARTICLE:  Anthony Scaramucci took no salary during his short tenure as White House communication director — yet his 10-day career detour could end up costing him more than $7.5 million. That’s because the New York hedge fund founder left the White House before he could obtain a “certificate of divestiture” giving him the special tax treatment available to federal employees who give up assets in order to avoid conflicts of interest. Without that certificate, the sale of Scaramucci’s Skybridge Capital to a Chinese holding company will be taxed at the capital gains rate of 15%. According to Scaramucci’s financial disclosure report, his 43.8% share of the sale is worth at least $50 million; other estimates put that number even higher. The Office of Government Ethics would not comment on whether Scaramucci’s application for that special tax treatment. But granted certificates are a matter of public record, and no such certificate has been granted to Scaramucci. And under OGE regulations, an application must come from a current employee of the executive branch.)

(FRTOM THE ARTICLE: 1. Underestimating health-related expenses  Healthcare is expensive, and you’re more likely to suffer illnesses and injuries as you age. Health problems such as Alzheimer’s and hip fractures from falls are far more common in older adults, and they’re also incredibly expensive to treat. (The average cost to care for a person with Alzheimer’s during the patient’s last five years of life is about $287,000, and the average hospital visit after a fall costs about $30,000.) Medicare will help cover some of the costs of health problems, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have to pay anything out of pocket. You’ll still be responsible for your deductible, coinsurance, and copays, and Medicare doesn’t cover long-term care, eye exams, most dental care, or hearing aids.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Party Executive Director Nick Klitzing isn’t surprised by the move. “It says something about their lack of a commitment to agriculture,” Klitzing said. “It says something about their lack of commitment of having regular people who aren’t party bigwigs, who don’t give tons of money.” Klitzing said it’s another example of things being run with an iron fist by Madigan, the longtime party leader. “The same way that he rules as the speaker of the House of the state legislature is exactly the same way he rules the Democratic Party of Illinois,” Klitzing said. Republicans still plan a rally during Governor’s Day Wednesday, Aug. 16. Democrats also didn’t host a statewide convention in 2016. These gatherings feature speeches from various party leaders. Klitzing said these types of events are important for the party faithful. “Those opportunities at a convention and meetings, it gives people, regular people, an opportunity to meet their legislators,” Klitzing said, “to meet their elected officials, to interact with them and voice their opinions.”)

— HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Insecure Workers Face Risk Of Illness – Laurn Weber  (DIERSEN: While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates did everything that they could to make feel insecure. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.  My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

Specifically, veterans who need assistance with activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and other activities may be eligible. DAILY HERALD
— New state lawmaker John Curran won’t get third pension – Robert Sanchez  (DIERSEN: When have you suffered big losses of income?  In 1980, when I was 31 years old, the Democrats who ran GAO succeeded in forcing me to suffer an $18,847/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO. I had been a GS-12 Step 5 (currently $90,173/year) at IRS and became a GS-9 Step 10 at GAO (currently $71,326/year). In 1997, when I was 49 years old, the Democrats who ran GAO succeeded in forcing me to suffer a $72,135 (59%) loss of income for in today’s dollars for the rest of my life by forcing me to take their early retirement “offer.” I had been a GS-13 Step 10 (currently $122,991) at GAO and became a Civil Service Retirement System retiree (currently $50,856/year).  My critics/opponents stress that since 2010, I have gotten Social Security (currently $2,028/year).)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20170731/new-state-lawmaker-curran-wont-get-third-pension
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Curran will receive an annual salary of $67,836 as a state senator. Previously, he was being paid roughly $130,000 annually as an assistant state’s attorney and $51,081 a year as a county board member. In addition to changing jobs, Curran chose not to enroll in the pension fund covering the Illinois General Assembly. “I have turned it down,” he said. Curran said he made that decision “because I truly believe that’s what my constituents would want.” Still, he’s going to get two pensions.)
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD WITH COLOR PHOTOS OF FITZGERALD AND MCCAIN: Fitzgerald praises McCain  Senator ‘stepped into the shoes of the lion’ – Kerry Lester (DIERSEN: GAO works for Congress. All during the time (2000-2005) that Diersen v. GAO (https://gopillinois.com/documents/) was pending in the federal courts in Chicago, Dennis Hastert was the Speaker of the House, Peter Fitzgerald was my U.S. Senator, and Henry Hyde was my U.S. Representative.  One could conclude that Hastert, Fitzgerald, and Hyde sided with the Democrats who ran GAO, that is, that Hastert, Fitzgerald, and Hyde favored patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation for complaining about the aforesaid a) because Fitzgerald appointed both the district court judge in the case (Amy St. Eve) and the attorney who represented GAO (Patrick Fitzgerald), b) because GAO never offered to settle, c) because the district court denied my 7th Amendment rights and granted GAO summary judgment, and d) because the appellate court upheld that decision. Hyde may have tried to help me with my lawsuit against GAO because in 1989, he intervened for me, and if he had not done that, the Democrats who ran GAO back then might have succeeded in getting rid of me.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always sided with the Democrats who ran/run GAO.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20170725/dupage-forest-commissioners-probably-wont-ax-pensions
(FROM THE ARTICLE: DuPage County Forest Preserve District commissioners could eliminate their taxpayer-funded pensions by simply declaring their elected jobs don’t require them to work at least 1,000 hours a year. But that appears unlikely to happen because most commissioners insist their $50,000-a-year positions are more than just part-time gigs. “This job takes more than 1,000 hours to do if you are meeting the expectations of your constituents,” Commissioner Tim Whelan said. “There’s just a plethora of issues that come up.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The River Forest Village Board is currently working on a so-called “welcoming resolution” draft to spell out its policies toward undocumented village residents and visitors. As reported by Wednesday Journal, nearby communities, including Oak Park, have adopted similar measures in recent months. At its July 10 meeting, village trustees discussed a working draft of the resolution and took public comment. They did not include the draft in the meeting’s packet and it was not available for residents to read. At that meeting, Village President Catherine Adduci said the resolution could be on the board’s August agenda. Wednesday Journal got a copy of the latest available working draft through a Freedom of Information Act request. The draft is the same document trustees discussed at the July 10 meeting, Village Administrator Eric Palm said. It has not been updated or changed based on trustee comments or resident feedback. http://www.politico.com/tipsheets/illinois-playbook/2017/07/26/politico-illinois-playbook-business-group-fears-rauner-immigration-retreat-221521
(FROM THE ARTICLE: An Illinois business group fears that recent staffing shifts in Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office may imperil a pro-immigrant bill that’s been sitting on the governor’s desk for nearly a month. The legislation, called the Illinois Trust Act — SB31 — limits local authorities’ reach on investigating immigration status when no serious or violent crime has been committed. It prohibits authorities from holding an individual solely on the basis of immigration status. The aim is to allay rampant fear of deportation in the immigrant community, which business owners say is harming constituencies from a moral standpoint. And from a business standpoint, it’s harming their workforce. See bill language here  Immigrant PTSD: The Illinois Business Immigration Coalition, a chief supporter of the bill, says it believed the governor supported the measure and that SB31 was on a path to become law. Now they say Rauner is “dragging his feet” on the issue. One major supporter of the law, Crate & Barrel co-founder Carole Browe Segal, who also co-chairs an Illinois business group, said she’s disappointed Rauner hasn’t already signed it. “This is a really important bill that we need to stand up for as good citizens. This bill protects the undocumented that have done no wrongdoing,” Segal told POLITICO. “We have to realize the fear and the stress and the PTSD that we are causing the 12 million undocumented workers.” Business support: In June, 171 CEOs, employers, farmers, manufacturers in Illinois urged Governor Rauner to support the Trust Act, in a full page ad in the Chicago Tribune. Asked where the governor stands on the bill, if his position recently changed and whether he will sign it, Rauner’s office offered little guidance. “The Senate has sent SB31 to the Governor’s desk. It is currently being reviewed,” said governor spokeswoman Laurel Patrick. “I will keep you posted on any updates or additional details.” Inconsistencies: William Kunkler III, a Republican co-chair of the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition, said he recognizes the vise Rauner is in on the issue as he heads into reelection in 2018. Rauner must contend with a pro-Trump electorate in southern and central Illinois, many of whom supported the president’s hardline approach to illegal immigrants and whose support Rauner needs as he enters into a brutal reelection battle. Kunkler said Rauner has supported major immigration issues in the past, including signing a law that provides health insurance to 41,000 undocumented children. “He’s been very helpful and responsive to our organization. I feel like I’m on the same page with the governor on this issue overall,” Kunkler said of the governor. “I’m surprised that this wouldn’t just go forward quickly. I’d want to know who’s hanging this up and why.”)

Ninety-three years after legendary GM CEO Alfred Sloan famously declared the automaker would sell “a car for every purse and purpose,” the nation’s largest automaker is focusing more on building models that people are actually buying. . .CEO Mary Barra is fervently pursuing an emphasis on vehicles that stand the best chance of becoming the hottest sellers -— crossovers, SUVs and pickups — and all the while looking ahead to the next era, when self-driving vehicles are expected to hit the roads.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Trump says he is “very disappointed in Jeff Sessions.”  My Democrat superiors in the federal government were very disappointed in me. I failed/refused to become a Democrat. I complained about patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  I failed/refused to help they get rid of their employees because they were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. In 1988, when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)

Because I have always been a Republican, because I am White, because I am male, because I am old (born in 1948), and because I am not a veteran, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years and b) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

FEDERAL NEWS RADIO
— Republicans use Holman Rule to propose 89 personnel cuts at CBO – Nicole Ogrysko  (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and Illinois would love to get my Congressman Peter Roskam to use the Holman Rule to cut if not eliminate my $50,856/year Civil Service Retirement System pension and my $17,288 federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidy. They were overjoyed a) when my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) when my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) when my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)
https://federalnewsradio.com/workforce/2017/07/republicans-use-holman-rule-to-propose-89-personnel-cuts-at-cbo/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For the first time since House lawmakers reinstated the rule earlier this year, three Republicans filed an amendment using the Holman Rule to target 89 employees at the Congressional Budget Office. The little-known relic from the 1870s lets any member of the House make significant changes to agency functions or personnel through an amendment during the appropriations process. . .Democrats in the national capital region, including Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), along with Reps. Don Beyer (D-Va.), Anthony Brown (D-Md.) Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), John Delaney (D-Md.), Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.), blasted the amendment, calling it “part of a strategic assault on objectivity and expertise in the civil service.” “This is exactly what we worried about when Republicans reinstated this arcane rule in January,” members said in a joint statement. “The Holman Rule empowers members of Congress to target individual federal employees. The rule is being used to punish an important advisory body for doing its job by providing forecasts which some members now find inconvenient.” Lawmakers voted back in January to reinstate the “Holman Rule,” a little-known provision that allows lawmakers to bring an amendment on an appropriations bill to the House floor that may “retrench” agency spending, reduce the number of federal employees in a particular agency or cut the salary or “compensation of any person paid out of the Treasury of the United States.” They included the measure in the House rules package at the beginning of the 115th Congress. The Holman Rule essentially lets House lawmakers make changes to a federal employee’s salary or position without input from the appropriations committee. Members can debate these amendments on the House floor for a limited time. But members of Congress haven’t included the Holman Rule since a congressional session in 1983. The rule itself dates back to 1876 and has been a part of the rules package on occasion since then.)
