My critics/opponents have always demonized me, denigrated me, and condemned me for becoming a federal employee and for staying a federal employee. Because of negative federal employee stereotypes, once you become a federal employee, it is very difficult if not impossible to get a job in the private sector. In my defense, I would not have become a postal employee when I was 18 years old in 1966 if my high school friend had not invited me to take the postal employment test and if I had not passed it.  I would not have become an IRS employee in 1971 if had not been unemployed and needed a job to help support my mother and brother. My Firestone Store boss had rudely fired me because I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. But Oldsmobile withdrew that offer because it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. I would not have become a GAO employee in 1980 if my IRS superiors had disallowed my travel vouchers in 1974, got rid of the IRS manager who had promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and made it clear that they would never promote me beyond GS-12. – Dave Diersen
