(FROM THE LETTER: Did you know that almost all slaves purchased in the United States were bought by Democrats? In 1860, all 4 million slaves were owned by Democrats. Republican Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, freeing all those that were slaves. The Republican party in the southern states was founded by former slaves. These same people were the first of their race elected to the U.S. House and Senate. The Republican Party Platform in 1858 called for the abolishment of slavery. When did the Democratic Party call for the abolishment of slavery? Did you know that Democrats wrote the Jim Crow laws? Democrats founded the Ku Klux Klan. Republicans repealed Jim Crow laws. Southern Democrats filibustered against the 1964 Civil Right Act. The Republican Party has a rich history of equality for all. The Democratic Party has a rich history of racism. It is very amusing to hear Democrats talk about reparations. Democrats are the only ones that should pay reparations based on the true history of slavery in the United States. When have the Democrats apologized for slavery? When have the Democrats apologized for the Jim Crow laws? When have the Democrats apologized for founding the Ku Klux Klan? They haven’t. I am proud to be a Republican. I am proud of our rich history supporting African Americans. I will not be bullied by someone who calls me a racist.)
