(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to Pew Research Center data, “Americans who are lower-income, black or Hispanic, immigrants or under 50 are especially likely to use public transportation on a regular basis.” Meanwhile ride-hailing apps, reports Pew, are especially popular among college grads with incomes above $75,000 a year. My having worked for IRS 1971-1980 and for GAO 1980-1997 and my wife’s having worked for FBI 1968-1970 and for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions 1970-1992 helped us avoid exorbitant interest rates.)

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/cpd-touts-mobile-ballistics-lab-loan-cultural-awareness-training/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Earlier Monday, Emanuel and Johnson invited reporters to the DuSable Museum of African American History in the Washington Park neighborhood, where 56 police recruits became the first to go through a day of cultural awareness training — a new requirement for future cops. Because violence most often effects those in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, police interact more often than not with African Americans and other people of color, Johnson said. “Many of you will begin your careers in these areas and it’s important that you understand the history that created the conditions in these neighborhoods,” Johnson said.)

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
— Make federal pensions transparent – Rep. Ron DeSantis and Adam Andrzejewski (DIERSEN: Questions for DeSantis and Andrzejewski: If you had started as a GS-4 federal employee when you were 18 like I did, how fast and how far would you have been promoted and why?  Would you have made GS-13 (currently $94,610) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $111,801) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $131,508) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $161,900) by age 40 and why?  Democrats run the federal government. When will critics of the federal government focus on patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation?  From the beginning of time, government employees have been viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned. Many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment test, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against the aforesaid.)
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/make-federal-pensions-transparent/article/2627070
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every year, the federal government pays $125 billion in tax dollars for federal pensions. In spite of this being such a large amount of money, there is a remarkable lack of transparency surrounding these funds. Taxpayers deserve to know the details of the lucrative pensions of career bureaucrats and members of Congress. Basic questions deserve answers: How many years were worked, how much money was paid-in and by whom, how quickly did they break-even on their own contributions, and just how much did the taxpayers finance? Releasing data on federal pensions will require an act of Congress, and we are leading the way. The Taxpayer Funded Pension Disclosure Act will empower citizens with the data and technologies to hold their government accountable like never before. Today, pension data is not merely opaque; it is literally hidden in an underground complex in Pennsylvania. Federal employees hand-calculate federal pensions in a process that has not changed since the Cold War era. How many mistakes has the government made in that cavernous complex? No one knows because we’re all in the dark. The case for greater federal pension transparency can easily be made by looking at the fraud that has already been exposed by non-profit organizations like Open The Books at the state level. In the 32 states that have pension transparency – including California, Illinois, New York and Oregon – citizens have exposed significant amounts of waste and mismanagement. Auditors at Open the Books uncovered a pair of union bosses in Illinois who taught as substitutes for one day in public schools and then retired, in order to collect a pension that will amount to $1 million dollars over their lifetime. At the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, data shows that a police lieutenant with a final salary of $129,000 received a starting pension of $172,000. An assistant airport operations manager retired with a final salary of $89,000, but soon began collecting a $103,000 pension. An electrician quit with a base salary of $76,000 and collected a pension of $79,000. With relatively little transparency, we’ve found numerous examples of waste and abuse across the country. Consider what we’d find if we could see more at the federal level. For instance, former IRS chief Lois Lerner used her authority to infringe the rights of American citizens and consistently obstructed congressional investigations. Wouldn’t it be nice to see her pension information? Her pension is estimated to equal nearly $2 million in lifetime payout. According to the Office of Personnel Management, in 2012, 21,000 retired federal employees were collecting pensions exceeding $100,000. Since then, the number has likely doubled or tripled. Moody’s estimates federal employee pensions have a $3.5 trillion-dollar unfunded liability, with taxpayers on the hook to guarantee it all. All of this information should be posted online in real time. Revealing this data across the board will allow citizens and policymakers to have a productive debate about pensions. Pulling this data out of the government’s underground pension cave and into the light will protect taxpayers, retirees, and near-retirees who have a right to ensure these taxpayer dollars are well-spent.)

COOK POLITICAL REPORT
— Governors: Overview
http://cookpolitical.com/story/10397
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The fifth seat is in Illinois where GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner is seeking a second term. Rauner has been under siege for much of his term in a stand off with the Democratic-controlled legislature over the state’s budget – or rather, the lack of one. The frontrunner for the Democratic nomination is billionaire J.B. Pritzker whose willingness to spend his personal wealth erases Rauner’s financial advantage: the Governor has already put $50 million into his campaign. As a Republican in a very blue state, Rauner is the most vulnerable incumbent seeking re-election next year.)

Their not urging GAO to settle continues to be used by my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes to hint/imply/argue/shout that the following adverse actions that GAO took against me were justified: forcing me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranking me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, not promoting me beyond GS-13, keeping me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forcing me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.)

https://federalnewsradio.com/commentary/2017/06/where-is-the-federal-workforce-and-why-does-that-matter/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When you look at the map, you can see a couple of things. The first is obvious. There is a large concentration of federal employees in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. In Maryland, for example, the number of federal jobs equals 2.17 percent of the population. It is in the national capital region, so that is to be expected. What may be more surprising is the ratio in middle America, Alaska and Hawaii. In Alaska, the number is 1.48 percent. Other states with high ratios of federal jobs/population are Hawaii (1.55 percent), New Mexico (1.05 percent), Oklahoma (0.97 percent), South Dakota (0.96 percent) and other states in the center of the country.)

My Democrat superiors, my Democrat supervisors, my Democrat coworkers, and my Democrat subordinates in the federal government talked and acted like they wanted me to answer the following serious questions: 1) Why aren’t you a Democrat? 2) Why do you oppose patronage? 3) Why do you oppose political affiliation discrimination? 4) Why do you oppose reverse discrimination? 5) Why do you oppose age discrimination? 6) Why do you oppose retaliation for complaining about the aforesaid? 7) Why don’t you paint yourself as being a yes-man?  8) Why don’t you help your superiors and supervisors get rid of their employees because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran? 9) Why did you avoid the Draft? 10) Why did you and your wife give up trying to have children? 11) Why didn’t you and your wife adopt and/or become foster parents? 12) Why are you conservative? 13) Why are you a Missouri Synod Lutheran? 14) Why do you own guns? 15) Why don’t you pretend that you are Swedish national origin? 16) Why do only buy American-nameplate cars? 17) Why don’t you own a dog? 18) You took all those non-job-related and distracting courses at UIC, NIU, DePaul, Roosevelt, and IIT etc. and you got all those non-job-related and distracting professional certifications and you got that non-job-related and distracting professional license because you wanted to get a job in the private sector, right?, 19) Why did you become an active member in a frivolous class action lawsuit in 1988 that charged us with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation? 20) Why are you a religious hypocrite, patriotic hypocrite, racist, sexist, bigot, and even worse things? 21) Why did you fraudulently try to defraud the federal government with your fraudulent sick leave requests, partial day per diem claims, and education deductions? and 22) Why didn’t you succumb to our efforts to get rid of you sooner than you did?)

— Rooting for Scalise Through Hospital Ordeal: His 3 Capitol Roommates – KATIE ROGERS
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/17/us/politics/scalise-paulsen-brady-shimkus-washington.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The initial report about his injury was a little Pollyannaish,” Mr. Shimkus said. “It’s going to be a tough rest of the year for us.” His roommates said the home they share, about a mile and a half from the Capitol in southwest Washington, had offered a bit of solace during a week marked by violence. Their living arrangement, complete with scuffed-up furniture, children’s toys and baseball photos on the wall, continues the Washington tradition of lawmakers who have decided to split the bill on an affordable, collegelike crash pad where they can spend a few days a week with like-minded colleagues. (Mr. Shimkus bought the home 15 years ago, and they split the mortgage costs, an amount they would not disclose, four ways.) Their shared politics help: Policy discussions tend to creep up amid viewings of the western movie “Tombstone” or of endless sports coverage on ESPN, Mr. Shimkus said. But a love of baseball is what has drawn these colleagues together. Mr. Scalise, 51, who is popular in his heavily Republican district and has been a Trump supporter, has been known as the night owl of the group, still able to wake up for practice and be out the door within minutes. “You’ve got three boring guys and one guy who’s kind of lively,” Mr. Shimkus said. “It’s been really quiet.” In the days since the shooting, they said, life has been a blur of hospital visits, phone calls and, of course, the bright lights of a ballgame, this city’s last best attempt at bipartisan showmanship. The game included a prayer at second base in honor of Mr. Scalise, and staff members wore T-shirts emblazoned with a photo of the four congressmen, taken at a game years ago. “With my roomies @RepShimkus @RepKevinBrady supporting @SteveScalise at congressional baseball game & pray for his recovery,” Mr. Paulsen tweeted on Thursday, posting a photo of him and his housemates wearing mismatched jerseys and yellow Louisiana State University hats, a tribute to Mr. Scalise’s alma mater. . .“The vitriol and the debate has gone so far to the extreme,” Mr. Shimkus said. “Compromise, which is the essence of public policy and passing laws, has been disparaged by extremes on both sides.”)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— In 2018, which Republican candidates are going to run for federal, state, and county offices in DuPage County?  Who does Rauner want to run for Attorney General, Comptroller, Secretary of State, and Treasurer?  I urge all of them to have an entry in Wheaton’s 2017 Independence Day Parade. SEE:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-independence-day-celebration-parade-entry-tickets-31882733113  So far, Bob Berlin for State’s Attorney, Peter Breen for State Representative, Grant Eckhoff for County Board, Jeanne Ives for State Representative, James Mendrick for County Sheriff, Peter Roskam for Congress, and Milton Township Republican Central Committee have entries. This year, for the 12th year in a row, I have sought donations from Republicans so that “DuPage Republicans” can again be one of the two $2,500 “Star” sponsors and again sponsor the Wheaton high school bands and the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums parade entries and again have a booth at the July 3 fireworks.  Outstandingly, again this year Tim Whelan will coordinate Republican use of the booth at the fireworks. This year again, I will hand deliver flyers to the residences and businesses on the parade route that will list the Republican entries in the parade and the Republicans who helped sponsor entries. Outstandingly, the flyers will be printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics. This year, outstandingly, Roger Claar is a $500 contributor, Chris Nybo is a $250 contributor, Phil Suess is a $150 contributor, and Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Mike Connelly, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeanne Ives, Marty Keller, Paula McGowen, Deanne Mazzochi, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, and Tim Whelan are $100 contributors. Please plan on watching the 22-minute fireworks Monday evening July 3 at Graf Park, and stopping the DuPage County Republicans booth.  Please plan on watching the parade on Tuesday morning July 4 or walking in the parade with one of the Republican entries. If you want to walk with one of the Republican entries, I suggest being at the staging area on north Main Street at 9:00 AM.  SEE: https://wheatonparkdistrict.com/events/july4/ – Dave Diersen

During the first 6 years and the last 9 years of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, my Democrat superiors refused to assign me to audits of IRS, that is, they wasted my knowledge of IRS. — When Leaders Are Hired for Talent but Fired for Not Fitting In – Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic and Clarke Murphy  (DIERSEN: How could you have “fit in” better where you worked?  I would have fit in better if I a) had become a Democrat, b) had painted myself as being a yes-man, c) had helped my superiors get rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran, d) had not complained about patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, or retaliation for complaining about the aforesaid, and e) had not become an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my employer with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)
https://hbr.org/2017/06/when-leaders-are-hired-for-talent-but-fired-for-not-fitting-in
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Understand their own organizational culture: Knowing a leader’s motives and values is pointless unless organizations are also able to decode their own culture. Sadly, most organizations underestimate the importance of accurately profiling their culture so they end up relying on intuitive and unrealistic ideas that say more about what they would like to be than what they actually are. This is why a large number of companies today describe themselves as “entrepreneurial,” “innovative,” “results-oriented,” or “diverse,” even when their own employees perceive a very different type of culture. Well-designed climate surveys, which crowdsource people’s views and experiences of the organizational culture, are a much better indicator of a company’s true values than the aspirational competencies curated by senior executives.)

https://federalnewsradio.com/congress/2017/06/100-house-democrats-voice-opposition-to-trumps-proposed-federal-retirement-cuts/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “These are highly skilled and dedicated public servants,” members of Congress wrote. “Taking their pensions away and gutting their pay would have the effect of pushing those skilled people out of the civil service and impairing the recruitment of new talent.” . . . But these proposals are particularly offensive, lawmakers said, because they would impact current and future retirees, not just prospective federal employees. “This breaks a promise to current federal employees and retirees,” they wrote. “We should not alter policies that families have planned their lives around, particularly when it affects current retirees with limited ability to make up for unforeseen reductions in expected income.” Several federal employee unions and organizations have adamantly voiced their own concerns over the president’s retirement proposals. “In exchange for years of hard work over long careers, our government made a commitment to middle-class federal and postal workers in the form of modest federal pensions in retirement,” the coalition said. “Those pensions are not gifts; they were earned. Diminishing their value in any way for current employees and retirees fails to honor the commitments made to our public servants.”)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-06-15/immigration-not-enough-to-halt-exodus-from-biggest-u-s-cities
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Immigration to the U.S. has failed to make up for the number of residents leaving New York, Los Angeles and Chicago — the nation’s top three metropolitan areas. Chicago — beset by crime, economic and budgetary woes and high taxes — is the net exodus leader among 100 metro areas tracked by Bloomberg using Census Bureau data for the year through July 1, 2016. An average 245 local residents left the Windy City each day compared with the arrival of 71 foreigners. Census doesn’t inquire about a person’s citizenship status. As Chicago struggles, so does Illinois. Last year, the net number of business establishments in the Prairie State fell by 1,235 from 2015, the worst performance of any state in the union, Bureau of Labor Statistics data show. For the nation’s third most-populous metropolitan area, foreign immigration “is the only offset we’ve got and it would be tragic to lose,” said Diane Swonk, chief executive and founder of DS Economics in Chicago.)
