She never worked outside of the home until after my father died suddenly when he was 47 and I was 21 in 1969. Because my father did not earn enough money, he never earned more than $50,00/year in today’s dollars, he could not have gotten a loan to pay for my college expenses. Because of that, and because I could not get any scholarships, my ACT score was only 24 and I only just barely made it into the upper 20% of my class, I had to work my way through college. I did that, but my GPA suffered.
