ILLINOIS FAMILY ACTION
— The Need for a Middle America News Network – Bruce Walker (DIERSEN: What do you say to Democrat plants, to Libertarian plants, to Green plants, and to RINOs in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton who focus on discouraging everyone from reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?)
https://illinoisfamilyaction.org/2017/06/the-need-for-a-middle-america-news-network/
(DIERSEN: The decline and lurch to the left of the Fox News Network provides an opening for any astute conservative billionaire: create a news network specifically intended to provide news from the viewpoint of most of America, which is to say the seventy-five percent of Americans who live in Flyover Country.  While the geographic concentration of political power in America is appalling, the geographic concentration of media power is much worse. Because the media defy elections and, in fact, determine elections, having almost all national news pass through the tiny channel of the New York-to-Washington Beltway is toxic to our national life. This is not an ideological monopoly, but rather a geographical monopoly.  But because the environment between Washington and New York is so utterly artificial and so completely leftist, what has happened to Fox News – a constant drift to the left – is an unrelenting and corrosive force that isolates the media and the government of America from the overwhelming majority who live in Middle America. Consider a neutral and fair political site like RealClearPolitics.  It is not uncommon to have one third of the stories from New York media outlets and one third of the stories from Washington media outlets and the rest from national outlets without a particular geographical designation but situated in the Beltway.  On those rare instances in which another city’s media has stories in RealClearPolitics, the city is usually Boston or Los Angeles. What that means is that the vast majority of Americans are utterly disenfranchised politically in the only area that really counts in a nation as large and media-driven as America.  What this also means is that as Fox News declines into irrelevance, as it will, there is a gaping hole for those with the money, the guts, and the vision to create a television network specifically focused on Middle America. This network should include a news network located in the center of America and dedicated to presenting stories that inform Americans what is happening in this majority of our nation.  There is vast ignorance within the Beltway media about how the energy industry works or how wheat and cotton are grown and cattle raised and ores mined. While Fox News periodically had stories presented from its Beltway offices about the plight of the timber industry in Washington State or the small oil producers in Oklahoma, stories from the Middle America News Network would be produced by those who actually live in these areas and presented to Americans by newscasters whose home is in Omaha or Knoxville or Salt Lake City or Little Rock.  This new network would also have a much easier time breaking into the cable news lineup than Fox News did because it would overtly be representing the perspective of local listeners in cities around the nation. Fox News rightly picked the target audience to make it grow: those millions of Americans disgusted by the ideological monopoly of the leftist establishment media.  The Middle America News Network would represent not just the ideologically disempowered, but the culturally disempowered, who find their beliefs and lives treated as weird curiosities.  The market share for this news network could skyrocket fast, particularly among the tens of millions of Americans who simply never watch network news any longer. This new network could also introduce a whole new way of interviewing members of Congress.  Instead of having these members show up at a studio in Washington or New York, the network could invite them to be interviewed for national television in their home states.  Those who decline an interview might find their likely rivals in the next election interviewed instead with the tag “The Middle America News Network invited Senator Mugwump to discuss the impact of environmental regulations on business here, but he was too busy in Washington to come here for the interview.” The idea would be to shift always, always, always the focus of attention and interest away from that micron of America that is the Beltway and back to the huge expanse from Alaska to Minnesota to Florida to Arizona that is America.  The idea would also be to force both political parties, which is to say Washington Party A and Washington Party B, to actually notice forty or so states that may be called “Flyover Country” if they wish their political parties to have a chance at gaining or holding power. This network could transform politics in America by forcing the parties to turn from Washington (“The Swamp”) and back to the American people spread all across this land.)

SUBURBAN LIFE
— Glen Ellyn gas station opponents file lawsuit against village, station operator  Protect Glen Ellyn Inc. filed suit May 22 – ERIC SCHELKOPF (DIERSEN: Have you ever sued a municipality?  I have. In 1986, I sued Wheaton a) for approving a woefully inadequate storm water drainage plan for the subdivision that I had a home built in and b) for allowing violation of many construction and building codes when that subdivision and my home were built. Subsequently, I sued Milton Township and DuPage County for refusing to recognize the loss in value that my home had suffered because of damages caused by the aforesaid. Everyone who files a lawsuit should be advised that with only rare exceptions, defendants in lawsuits will forever do everything that they can to destroy you.)

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/mark-levin-sean-hannity-should-consider-suing-media-matters/article/2624210
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Conservative radio host Mark Levin proposed Fox News’ Sean Hannity should look into suing Media Matters for how the progressive organization has gone after his show and audience. “If I were Sean Hannity … I would give very serious consideration to suing Media Matters, its board, and its officers, as well as any other entity involved in the organized effort to boycott his TV show, including media outlets contacting his advertisers in a thinly veiled boycott tactic, for the purposeful tortious interference with his employment contract with Fox News and his business relationships with his various advertisers,” Levin wrote in a Facebook post Thursday. On Tuesday, Hannity told viewers that there is an effort to “silence” him from making certain comments on air. “As for my job here at the Fox News Channel — there is an effort now abound to silence me,” Hannity said. “That is what we have called on this program as liberal fascism. Attack, boycott, all in an effort to silence conservatives. I serve at the pleasure of the Fox News Channel. I’m here to do my job every night.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: When Michael Savini came to Wall Street in 2006, banks and brokers had stocked their annual recruiting classes with a preponderance of new hires who shared at least one thing in common: They’d played college sports. In New York and Chicago, trading floors teemed with former football and lacrosse stars, as well as veterans of college hockey, wrestling, tennis and crew teams. Some ex-athletes, including former investment bank CEOs John Mack, Henry Paulson and Alan Schwartz, made it to the executive suite. Many others looked favorably on younger versions of themselves, building networks that drew athletes, typically male, from their alma maters. Ex-jocks had the right stomach for risk-taking, the theory went, and the ideal temperament to win clients’ trust and business. “You saw a lot of big guys” in Chicago’s trading pits, said Bernard McSherry, dean of the New Jersey City University’s business school, who spent many years on the floor of the NYSE. “Those were physical jobs. And in an open-outcry market, you could bully your way into a trade.”)

Because he was so furious about that, he got Congress to change the law so that part-time federal work is now prorated. If I had not been grandfathered in, that law change would have cost me about 1 1/2 years of federal service credit.)
http://edgarcountywatchdogs.com/2017/05/bill-introduced-to-change-public-officer-prohibited-activities-act-after-dupage-official-outed/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Like previous violations of law by public officials in DuPage and other counties, instead of following the law, they simply get the law changed – which is their right to try and accomplish, but it sets a bad precedent for Illinois public officials – one that essentially breeds corruption by demonstrating that laws do not matter. Previous changes have been to pass a Bill concerning the election code, and backdate its effective date to allow extended times for publication of referendum. Another was to change the township code to authorize giving away mulch and delivering it onto private property. And changing the way drug funds must be utilized, after writing about a rogue State’s Attorney who chose to spend it outside what the current law allowed. If this is what we have come to in Illinois, someone should tell us exactly which laws are to be followed, and which ones can be safely ignored. Anything short of that, “Break the Law Change the Law” will become our State motto.)

Richard Jorgensen, the president of the foundation, told the DuPage Policy Journal that the event met its goals with flying colors. “We considered it to be a very successful event,” he said. “Our event is really two things: one, to honor World War I and Korea War-era veterans for their service, and second, it is a fundraiser to donate the money to Honor Flight Chicago. Those were the two goals of our event.” Jorgensen said the fundraiser drew more than 1,000 attendees, including Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Chicago radio talk show host Dan Proft. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/05/22/trump-hill-republicans-target-overly-generous-compensation-for-feds/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With President Trump targeting federal employees’ retirement programs and House Republicans taking aim at their compensation generally, Uncle Sam’s goal of being a model employer looks shaky. The administration’s fiscal 2018 budget proposal, scheduled for release Tuesday, includes a series of cuts to retirement programs, as The Washington Post reported last week. Then, amid a torrent of reports denoting Trump as unfit, unprepared and unbecoming, Republicans took time for a hearing to promote the notion that feds are overpaid. Together, the White House and congressional actions are a clear indication of Republican intent to extract savings at the expense of the workforce. At Thursday’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), chairman of the government operations subcommittee, complained “taxpayers are stuck paying for overly generous compensation” that “rewards tenure rather than performance.” Meadows, chairman of the right-wing House Freedom Caucus, always makes a point of praising “an incredibly dedicated federal workforce” and visiting their workplaces. That he is not a fed-basher demonstrates how pervasive his position is among Republicans who control Congress. With Republican Trump running the White House, Democrats are outnumbered in their attempt to protect workers from further incursions into their pocketbooks.)

https://www.cjr.org/local_news/trump-and-trickle-down-press-persecution.php
(FROM THE ARTICLE: IT’S BECOME CLEAR IN RECENT MONTHS that Donald Trump’s growling at the national press has, in many ways, backfired. The New York Times and The Washington Post are producing exceptional and indignant stories about the new administration. Subscriptions have surged. Cable news ratings are hitting record highs. And nonprofit outlets like Mother Jones and ProPublica have seen a major increase in donations. Times Editor Dean Baquet put it this way in late February: “There was a long time when the press wondered about its place in society. . . What’s happened in the last couple of months, I have to say, has been tremendous for news organizations. Our mission is clearer than it’s ever been.” I’m excited about the press’s reinvigoration, too, but I’m also worried about Trump’s anti-press words and deeds—and their trickle-down consequences for state and local journalists. I contacted 16 editors or publishers of state and local newspapers in California, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas to ask if their papers had seen post-election bumps in subscriptions or readership. Their circulations range from 8,000 to 200,000 daily. Seven responded, and only one reported growth. The others didn’t know why they hadn’t seen growth or said their local focus might be to blame. I don’t want to lean too heavily on these results, which are anecdotal. But they only add to my concern that Trump’s anti-press antics will inspire unprecedented attempts to delegitimize the state and local press.)

CAPITOL FAX
— Oppo dump! Pritzker hit on huge property tax appeal  (DIERSEN: Have you let property “go to pot?”  Last year, when my mother died, I inherited half interest in 1286 Wood Street in Crete where I lived 1954-1972.  If I sought a government office or a political office, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would charge me with letting it “go to pot” because no one would buy the house for anything close to what Crete Township assessor says it is worth.)
https://capitolfax.com/2017/05/12/oppo-dump-pritzker-hit-on-huge-property-tax-appeal/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I always have a simple answer for people who ask questions like: Why would a guy with $3.4 billion care about saving a few hundred grand on his property taxes? My reply: It’s America, man. Nothing’s ever enough here. It looks like he bought the house next door to establish a buffer. He remodeled the outside so it looked nice, but apparently let the inside go to pot. (The appraiser was let inside that house, but not into Pritzker’s actual residence, which also got a reduction, over security concerns.) Then apparently he got tired of paying taxes on a house that wasn’t worth nearly as much as its appraised value.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Welcome to the other side, Jay Cutler, to the sports media entity you once considered an enemy now eagerly befriending the former Bears quarterback, the latest reformed NFL bully to regret all the sand he kicked in our faces. An athlete’s 40-yard dash time is nothing compared to how quickly many change their views about the working press in retirement. In a relaxed radio interview Friday on WMVP-AM’s “Waddle & Silvy,” Cutler sounded like a man ready to move on from his days with the Bears — good advice for everyone in Chicago, from press row to Section 250. The football world’s surprise at the news mirrored Cutler’s when the opportunity first was presented. Cutler auditioning for a media job was like a vegan ordering a steak. “I was like, ‘There is no way in hell I’m doing this,'” Cutler said on the radio.)

In 1989, they pulled out all the stops to get rid of me, and they might have succeeded, were it not for Henry Hyde’s intervention.)

WGN TV
— Protesters target local GOP after Health Care bill passes House – TOM NEGOVAN  (DIERSEN: Congressman Peter Roskam spoke at Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti’s outstanding fundraiser at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton yesterday evening.  This WGN TV posting includes clips on protesters at the fundraiser and Roskam’s answers to reporters’ questions during a press conference that I attended as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor just before he spoke at the fundraiser. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) did not want me to know that Roskam was going to speak at the fundraiser or that Roskam would hold a press conference just before he spoke at the fundraiser. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes did not want me to attend the press conference. They almost succeeded in stopping me from attending the press conference, but outstandingly, Roskam granted my appeal and allowed me to attend the press conference. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in Wheaton and elsewhere have always have done everything that they can to turn Roskam and other activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. against me. Should I write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes?)
http://wgntv.com/2017/05/04/protesters-target-local-gop-after-health-care-bill-passes-house/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois congressional delegation went right along party lines in the American Health Care bill vote. Every Chicago-area Democrat voted against the American Health Care Act. Every Republican voted for it. 6th District Congressman Peter Roskam returned from Washington this afternoon and has protesters gathered outside his office by evening. In a statement, Gov Bruce Rauner said, “The bill that passed in the U.S. House today continues to be of deep concern to our administration.” He’s concerned about the impact on Medicaid. Chicago’s mayor thinks backers of the AHCA need to worry about the senate. “I think the senate is going to look at this and say this is a non-starter and that it’s not going to happen,” he said. The bill, which passed with just one vote to spare after six weeks of work, is expected to be a much tougher sell in the senate.)

I bought a new town home in University Park in 1972.  I lived in it full-time 1972-1974 and weekends 1974-1976. I rented it out 1976-1984 and I sold it in 1984. They base that on my father having type 1 diabetes from age 14 and his sudden death caused by heart failure in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21.  More recently, they base their predictions on my being 68 years old, my having type 2 diabetes, my being overweight, and my not getting enough exercise. CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— These two are the only local CEOs paid $20 million-plus last year – JOE CAHILL  (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who rail against the compensation that government employees and government retirees get, but say nothing about the outrageous compensation that private sector employees get.  Ever-increasingly, those who rail against the compensation that government employees and government retirees get sound like they are being paid lots of money by private sector CEOs to do that.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170505/ISSUE10/170509888
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In general, CEOs at public companies around Chicago got smaller raises than counterparts elsewhere last year. A median pay hike of 3.6 percent trailed the 5.5 percent increase for CEOs at companies in the Russell 3000 Index. But don’t feel sorry for our CEOs—their 2016 median pay of $5.4 million was well above the $4.1 million median for the Russell 3000. Higher median pay reflects Chicago’s significant concentration of large companies with multiple business lines and worldwide operations, says John Roe, head of ISS Analytics. “There are some very large, very complex corporations there,” Roe says. “That tends to result in higher pay packages.”)

Roskam comes from an increasingly diverse district in the western suburbs of Chicago that has trended Democratic at the presidential level. He faced tough races in the past, though redistricting shifted his district into more safely Republican territory six years ago. “It’s time the people of Illinois’ 6th District hold Peter Roskam accountable for voting to make Americans pay more and get less for their health care,” Mazeski said in announcing her bid.)

— Donald Trump’s malignant narcissism is toxic: Psychologist  Mental health professionals have a ‘duty to warn’ about a leader who may be unfit to serve. – John Gartner (DIERSEN: Democrats are moral relativists who believe that their end justifies their means.  They are disciples of Saul Alinsky. They can and they will say that anyone who does not defend and advance the Democrat Party platform is mentally ill.)

— Prince Philip jokes about his pending retirement – while still on the job – Maria Puente  (DIERSEN: How much longer do your critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes predict that you will live? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always treated me like they predicted that I would die long before I might retaliate against them. They base that on my father having type 1 diabetes from age 14 and his sudden death caused by heart failure in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21.  More recently, they base their predictions on my being 68 years old, my having type 2 diabetes, my being overweight, and my not getting enough exercise. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes do everything that they can to cause me stress and to make me angry.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Can anyone in Britain really imagine Prince Philip retired and puttering around the palace? In fact, the 95-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was joking about the big-news-that-wasn’t-big news on Thursday at — where else? — an official engagement with his wife of nearly 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II (who’s already vowed she’s never going to retire). Philip, who turns 96 in June, was at his customary place behind the queen as they attended the Order of Merit service at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace in London. His quick sense of humor seemed to be fully intact. When a well-wisher expressed sadness at his decision to “stand down,” Philip joked back: “I can’t stand up much longer.”)
— FRONT PAGE: Trump’s call to ‘Buy American’ isn’t boosting sales of U.S. goods – Charisse Jones  (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who paint themselves as being anti-American. They hate a) General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, b) vehicles made by General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler, c) those who own vehicles made by General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler, d) unions, e) past, present, and future union members, and/or f) past, present, and future government employees and retirees.)
