(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the U.S., President Trump has continued to belittle the press for its coverage of the virus at live press conferences and on Twitter. On Monday, President Trump deflected blame onto the Washington Post when asked about allegations that China — as well as Russia and Iran — is spreading coronavirus misinformation, saying “every country does it.” Trump last week attacked NBC News reporter Peter Alexander during a live television briefing after being asked what he would say to Americans that were worried about the coronavirus, a question Alexander later said he thought was a “softball,” or an opportunity for the president to answer an easy question. Between the lines: The president’s actions, some fear, give credence to leaders abroad and locally in the U.S. to continue to attack press that they don’t like. Case-in-point: Over the weekend Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, an ally to President Trump, blocked a reporter from attending a coronavirus press briefing. Days earlier, that reporter had asked if briefings could be moved online to protect reporters’ health.
DeSantis has been criticized by Democrats over his response to the coronavirus.)

https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20200330/most-suburban-gop-lawmakers-endorse-pritzkers-covid-19-stay-at-home-rule
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois GOP House Leader Jim Durkin and Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady supported Pritzker’s executive order issued March 20 that aims to nip the spread of the respiratory infection. Republican and DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin has appeared with Pritzker at several briefings and said “preserving people’s health and safety has to be the No. 1 consideration in an effort to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on our communities. “I intend to let the public health recommendations and data drive decision-making, so we make the most informed decisions possible in this unprecedented situation,” Cronin said. Republican state Rep. David McSweeney of Barrington Hills, however, said last week that Pritzker’s order is “too broad” and the state should align with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “I am 100% totally supportive of what the health care professionals say at the federal level,” McSweeney said. “I believe the best information is at the CDC. No one in Washington has ordered a shutdown of the state of Illinois.”)

— How will county parties hold legally mandated conventions on April 15th?
https://capitolfax.com/2020/03/30/how-will-county-parties-hold-legally-mandated-conventions-on-april-15th/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The ILGOP’s general counsel sent a memo to county chairs days ago. Excerpt… Other than the requirement that conventions be held on a particular date, the Election Code only directs that a county convention elect a county chairman, select delegates to the state convention and shall be held “within the county.” There is no statutory requirement that a convention must be conducted in any particular manner. In other words, for county organizations without bylaws that might direct otherwise, a convention could possibly be conducted by a conference call (so long as all participants are within the county), or by use of absentee ballots or other methods to elect a chairman and to conduct business. As for the requirement that state convention delegates are chosen at the county convention, that task may be delegated (as has traditionally been the case) to county chairmen if necessary. Of course, all notice requirements must be adhered to, as always. For counties with bylaws that dictate how their conventions are to be run, those bylaws will control, and county organizations should abide by them. I asked the same follow-up question to the ILGOP’s Joe Hackler about counties with in-person meeting requirements. His response… There may be a few that explicitly require personal presence for participation. However, each of these counties conventions would conceivably have a rules committee that could possibly help offer some relief.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump heaped scorn on several members of the White House press corps at a coronavirus briefing Friday, but made a point of responding to questions from a new reporter in the briefing room: His former press secretary. “Mr. President, two questions if you would indulge me,” Sean Spicer said when Trump pointed a finger to call on his former aide. Spicer, of course, is the former White House and Republican National Committee spokesman who vigorously defended Trump’s inauguration crowd size claims and regularly tangled with reporters during combative White House briefings before his ouster in a 2017 shakeup. He also took a spin on “Dancing With The Stars.” Spicer now has his own political talk show for the conservative Newsmax TV outlet. By the time Trump entered the White House Briefing Room to address reporters Friday, Spicer was set to press his old boss for presidential reaction to small business anxieties and reports that senators unloaded stocks before a pandemic-sparked market downturn. The surreal scene played out moments after the president castigated NBC’s Peter Alexander for suggesting that Trump may be giving Americans “a false sense of hope” about coronavirus treatment, asking what he would say to Americans who are scared or sickened by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.)

CNN
— Sean Spicer returns to White House briefing room as a reporter – Betsy Klein and Caroline Kelly (DIERSEN: Spicer is a Newsmax reporter like I am a GOPUSA reporter. Neither of us have degrees in journalism. I worked for GAO as an Analyst for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $101,176-$131,532/year. What GAO Analysts do is very similar to what reporters do. I should write a book about those who have treated me a) like I never was a reporter for GOPUSA, b) like I am not a GOPUSA reporter now, and c) like I never will be a GOPUSA reporter, that is, like my stating that I am a GOPUSA reporter is fraudulent. Better yet, I should sue them. I would focus on those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois.
