For example, has he offered to attend a summit meeting with those who endorsed Trump, those who endorsed Ives, and the conservative leaders in Illinois? What does Rauner say to those who increasingly conclude that he does NOT want those who voted for Trump and/or for Ives to help reelect him on November 6, 2018? (FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner is trailing Democratic gubernatorial rival J.B. Pritzker by at least 15 points, according to the May edition of The Illinois Poll. The telephone survey contacted 1,208 voters May 22-24. While Rauner holds narrow leads in northern and central Illinois, he has surged in the southern part of the state, with a 46-to-30 percent lead over Pritzker. Predictably, Pritzker is leading Rauner 76 to 11 percent in Democratic Chicago and suburban Cook County. The poll also asked residents whether they believe Rauner deserves to be re-elected to a second term in office. Thirty four percent of respondents said yes, while 53 percent said no.)

https://www.theday.com/article/20180610/OP04/180619985

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Pew Research Center is out with a fascinating poll on “news fatigue.” The poll finds: “Almost seven-in-ten Americans (68%) feel worn out by the amount of news there is these days, compared with only three-in-ten who say they like the amount of news they get,” according to the report. “The portion expressing feelings of information overload is in line with how Americans felt during the 2016 presidential election, when a majority expressed feelings of exhaustion from election coverage.” On one hand, this is understandable given the constant drumbeat of scandal and outrage. On the other hand, no one forces Americans to watch or read the news. It is a choice whether to consume it or not, and judging from those stunning poll results (e.g. only 43 percent polled last year could name a single Supreme Court justice), many people do a fine job of being uninformed. Nevertheless, to the degree one attempts to be a diligent citizen, it seems to many that they are drinking out of the proverbial firehose. Looking a little closer, we see an interesting phenomenon. Distaste for President Donald Trump — and perhaps glee at his failures — makes Democrats more eager to ingest as much news as they can. “While majorities of both Republicans and Democrats express news fatigue, Republicans are feeling it more,” according the Pew’s findings. “Roughly three-quarters (77%) of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents feel worn out over how much news there is, compared with about six-in-ten Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents (61%). This elevated fatigue among Republicans tracks with them having less enthusiasm than Democrats for the 2018 elections. The lack of interest in the news and in the election suggests that an outsize segment of Republicans don’t want to hear that much about, or take stock of, the president and Congress they elected. Yes, we can sympathize that it is stressful to see someone you were warned not to vote for display just about every rotten trait you chose to overlook during the campaign (e.g. dishonesty, vulgarity, racism). Ironically, the less-informed people feel the most overwhelmed, even if they don’t actually consume a whole lot of news. (“While a majority of those who follow the news most of the time (62%) are feeling worn out by the news, a substantially higher portion (78%) of those who less frequently get news say they are fatigued by the amount of it that they see.”) There may be a strong segment of the electorate that is trying to hide from the news — but just can’t. The demographic groups that most strongly supported Trump are now the most exhausted by the news. “Some demographic groups — most notably white Americans — are more likely than others to feel exhausted by the news,” the poll finds. “Nearly three-quarters (73%) of white Americans express fatigue with the amount of news, much higher than among both Hispanic (55%) and black Americans (55%). Women are also somewhat more likely than men to feel worn out (71% vs. 64%, respectively).” There is some good news in this for the anti-Trump forces. It seems they are more energized (perhaps by a sense of vindication or by a desire to stop the Trump madness) than Republicans, who, gosh, just don’t seem to want to be reminded of what and whom they voted for. They are not “tired of winning.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Indiana Republican Party, by an overwhelming margin, reaffirmed Saturday its commitment to marriage “between a man and a woman” as the preferred structure for Hoosier families. In so doing, the 1,494 GOP delegates attending the party’s biennial state convention turned aside a revised “strong families” platform plank, proposed by Gov. Eric Holcomb’s party leadership, that expressed support for all adults raising children, in favor of renewing explicit support for opposite-sex marriage that first was inserted in the platform in 2014 by marriage equality opponents. The platform debate was the sole controversy at the half-day convention that also saw Secretary of State Connie Lawson, State Auditor Tera Klutz and State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell nominated as the party’s candidates for the November elections. Most delegates applauded and cheered following the voice vote that preserved the Gov. Mike Pence-era endorsement of what backers describe as “traditional” marriage.)

My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. The CFC will monetize volunteer hours and count them toward campaign results. But it will report them separately from financial contributions. Federal employees should use the CFC online pledging system to track volunteer hours.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The language was added when Vice President Mike Pence was governor. But it is omitted from the latest draft of Indiana Republican Party’s platform. Delegates will be able to vote on the platform when they meet in Evansville next weekend. GOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer tells the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that the new draft is a “compromise” that includes language that is inclusive. He says the party’s goal was “to try not to offend anyone.” Not everyone is happy with the proposed change. Micah Clark, executive director of the socially conservative American Family Association of Indiana, called it a “weak statement” that was “pure mush.”)

AMERICAN THINKER
— Affirmative action in the control tower – Willie Shields (DIERSEN: I should write a book about Affirmative Action at GAO, at IRS, and at the Post Office.)
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/06/affirmative_action_in_the_control_tower.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I don’t fly. When folks ask me why, the short answer is that I know too much: I’m a former FAA air traffic controller. It’s been recently reported that the FAA is now actively recruiting new trainees to work in the towers and control rooms directing airplanes and that the criteria they now utilize to screen applicants is a curiously absurd “biographical questionnaire.” Jason L. Riley in the Wall Street Journal: “A recently completed six-month investigation by Fox Business Network found that the Federal Aviation Administration has quietly moved away from merit-based hiring criteria in order to increase the number of women and minorities who staff airport control towers. The changes come despite the fact that the FAA’s own internal reports describe the evidence for changing the hiring process as “weak.” Until 2013, the FAA gave hiring preference to controller applicants who earned a degree from one of its Collegiate Training Initiative schools and scored high enough on an eight-hour screening test called the Air Traffic Selection and Training exam, or AT-SAT, which measures cognitive skills. The Obama administration, however, determined that the process excluded too many from minority groups. In May 2013, the FAA’s civil rights administrator issued “barrier analyses” of the agency’s employment procedures, which recommended “revising how the AT-SAT is used in establishing best-qualified lists.” By the start of last year, the FAA was using a biographical questionnaire (BQ) to initially vet potential hires. The questions – “How many sports did you play in high school?”, “What has been the major cause of your failures?” – seem designed to elicit stories of personal disadvantage or family hardship rather than determine success on the job.” I can tell you with absolute certainty that the FAA Air Traffic Control Division has been down with the affirmative action program for a long time. The PATCO controllers’ strike during the summer of 1981 seemingly gave the “fire whitey” gang the opening they craved. There was one problem. The air traffic system needed to get back up and running smoothly, and especially safely, so that Ronald Reagan’s mass firing would look reasonable. So they quickly hired aviation-experienced people, including pilots and experienced military air traffic controllers. I was one of them. Granted, some of these well qualified new guys were black, but no one would look upon this new controller work force and call it a model of so-called diversity. The big push for hiring other than pale males would have to wait. Safety first, as it were. A few things happened in the next few years. First, the FAA stopped reporting aviation incidents, including near mid-air collisions and runway incursions. When safety incidents are under-reported or deceitfully downgraded, the system starts to look like perfection, and the FAA will gladly report, as it frequently does, that it is “The Safest System In The World.” These people want the flying public to skate out onto the ice, even as they are lying about how thin the ice is, and while we are at it, how warm it is today.)

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/02/us/politics/gavin-newsom-antonio-villaraigosa-california.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: And the leading contenders to win on Tuesday are particularly burdened by political and personal baggage that offer another contrast with Mr. Brown as he prepares to retire to his ranch. Two of the Democrats — Mr. Villaraigosa and Gavin Newsom, the lieutenant governor — were involved in high-profile affairs while they were in public office in the mid-2000s, episodes that have been raised against them during a candidate debate and in a handful of advertisements at a time of heightened awareness of sexual misconduct.)

HERALD & REVIEW
— Should Illinois townships go away? Legislation would make it easier to do exactly that – RYAN VOYLES (DIERSEN: To get me to be against township government, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes might try to stress the many adverse actions that Milton Township elected officials and Milton Township employees have taken against me.)
https://herald-review.com/news/local/should-illinois-townships-go-away-legislation-would-make-it-easier/article_c6eb4406-c54b-5d02-bb81-0405d5bb5ccd.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Illinois needs to rise up for air, and they need to be able to keep their money rather than turn it over to multiple forms of government,” GOP Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti told the Herald & Review in an interview last week, echoing a common criticism raised by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner. A bill that would make it easier to mount township abolition campaigns in McHenry County passed through the Illinois House on an 80-22 vote, though it has faced adversity since arriving in the Senate. If approved before the session ends this month, the plan sponsored by state Rep. David McSweeney, a Republican from Barrington Hills, would allow townships to consolidate via a majority vote in a referendum, and could be placed on the ballot by a majority vote of the county board or by at least 5 percent of the total voters in the prior election. . .Many took the report to single out townships, of which there are more than 1,400 across the state, but Sanguinetti said the intent was to focus on ways to reduce the number of all units of government, specifically things like mosquito abatement districts. Sanguinetti said that in some cases townships can be valuable for the community. . .“We realize that no township in Illinois is created equally,” she said. “There are communities where townships are needed, especially in the rural areas.” The idea of locals looking after themselves has always been the purpose of the discussions about consolidation, Sanguinetti said. With the task force and the proposed legislation, the entire point has been to strengthen the ability for communities to push for consolidating, merging or even discontinuing whatever local forms of government they see as being unnecessary, said. “The purpose of our task force was to alleviate the hurdles,” Sanguinetti said, “so that local government could decide what it could do with and what it could do without.”)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Ives, McSweeney endorse Shaw for GOP chairman – Glenn Minnis (DIERSEN: Questions for your Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) member:

– What are the times, locations, and agendas of the May 19 IRP SCC and Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association meetings in Springfield?
– Do the agendas include public comment periods, and if so, how long and how many minutes will each speaker be limited to?
– What is the status of potential Winchester litigation against the IRP?
– If the 15th Congressional District (CD) IRP SCC position is still in dispute on May 19, will the vote for IRP chairman be postponed or will the vote be taken without the 12.1% 15th CD weighted vote?
– Do you agree with those who believe that if Rose casts the 15th CD weighted vote, Schneider will be reelected and if the vote is taken without the 15th CD weighted vote, or if Winchester casts it, Shaw will be elected?
– In the past, especially in 2005 and 2013, many have sought the IRP chairman position. Why are only two seeking the position now?
– Will the IRP allow Ives to speak in favor of Shaw at the May 19 IRP SCC meeting?
– Who does Schneider want the IRP Executive Director to be? Who does Shaw want the IRP Executive Director to be?
– Would it be correct to say that you will only vote for an IRP chairman candidate who can and will defend and advance all the planks in the Republican Party platform and the IRP platform, including their traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks?
– What is your weighted vote and which IRP chairman candidate are you going to vote for and why?
– How many chairs will the IRP set up for observers at the IRP SCC meeting: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500+?
– Who has asked you to nominate them to serve as your deputy?
– Who has asked you to appoint them to the 2020 IRP State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee?)

POLITICO ILLINOIS

(FROM THE ARTICLE: During an interview with CLTV’s Paul Lisnek on Monday, state Rep. Jeanne Ives went on a tear against Gov. Bruce Rauner and Tim Schneider, the Illinois Republican Party chairman the governor is backing. Ives, who narrowly lost to Rauner in the March primary, is supporting Schneider’s opponent Mark Shaw in a heated fight over the GOP throne. Among the reasons Ives is backing Shaw: she blames Schneider for the Nazi candidate running as a Republican in Illinois’ 3rd congressional district. “So he’s alienating the base by propping up Schneider again, and Schneider has failed. Look we have 37 state reps, Democrats, unopposed in this coming up election. It is the party chairman’s responsibility to find opponents. We have an avowed Nazi sitting as a Republican in a congressional race, and that’s wrong too. And then on top of it, the entire emphasis from Tim Schneider and Rauner et al over the last campaign cycle is simply to get Rauner elected, and so much of what they did in terms of data collection and everything else did not support our state reps. We need a whole new vision for our party, and a whole new way to attract voters.” And then there’s this exchange. Ouch: Lisnek: “If polls look close come November and it looks like Pritzker could pull it out, would that be enough of a scare for you to look at your supporters and say it’s ok, vote Rauner?” Ives: “I can’t predict what the future’s going to look like, umm, in a few months, so we’ll just see what’s going on.”)

— Illinois Cleared for New Mental Health, Addiction Pilot Programs – Amanda Vinicky
https://chicagotonight.wttw.com/2018/05/07/illinois-cleared-new-mental-health-addiction-pilot-programs
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As is the question over who will be the party’s next leader. Rauner’s hand-selected chairman, Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, faces a challenge from Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw, who has won the endorsement of state Rep. Jeanne Ives, who narrowly lost the gubernatorial nomination to Rauner. Ives in a statement said Schneider’s “tenure has been an unmitigated disgrace” and lauds Shaw’s credentials as a “common sense conservative.” Rauner on Monday said Schneider is a “great chairman” and that he supports his re-election by the Republican State Central Committee on May 19. But the governor said, “I also don’t spend any time really thinking about that.” Rauner pushed back against the suggestion that the intra-party divide is a reflection of his own leadership. “Going back as far as I know, and I’ve lived in Illinois my whole life … there have been fights and disagreement and challenges many times over the years. It’s … part of the process,” Rauner said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “What’s different about the job guarantee is that it is universal and it’s permanent. So it’s an option that would exist not only in times of massive unemployment but it also would exist in times where the unemployment rate is lower,” Darity said. “But we still have large numbers of bad jobs. It’s not just an emergency.” . . . “The idea is that we would then drive bad jobs out of existence,” said Darity, “because no one would be obligated to take those jobs since they would have a superior option.”)
