(FROM THE ARTICLE: I think Jeanne Ives, or any of another five or six party luminaries, defeats Rauner in the primary on announcement.  His money will not matter. His flannel shirts will not attract. His commercials will persuade no one. He may attack Jeanne, the way he did Aaron and Dan. But for what? Goodness knows. Regardless, it will reduce his vote, not hers. Attacking a Wheaton mom who was among the first female West Point grads, a decorated logistics officer in the U.S. Army, who has earned her spurs in Springfield, worked with Democrats to pass important bills for all of us, and who has never strayed from her stated political beliefs in conservatism and rooting out Illinois corruption? The only campaign person who might recommend such a course probably led Mark Kirk’s re-elect effort. I know, Rauner bought the party. I do not think it matters. I know the State Central Committee is urged to hold the line. But, for what? For this? The party of Reagan? To this we have sunk? What have we delivered to the people – all of the people, from the South Side to Southern Illinois, from Western Illinois University to Northwestern – what have those folks gotten from Rauner and us that is worthy of us holding anything for him? Does any one of us believe that Rauner will get to the re-apportionment table? Or, if one thinks he will, on what basis might one think Rauner would deliver the best map possible for Illinoisans under those circumstances? Instead, for this all-encompassing task, Rauner’s petty personalization against Madigan has shown him uniquely unqualified. I thought Bruce Rauner was a fresh breeze. I thought he was technocrat who would save our finances. I did not expect a conservative, per se, but after his pitch to Jack Roeser, I was promised Bruce would never be a liberal. I got a whopping tax hike, Sanctuary State, Transgender Birth Certificates and taxpayer-funded abortion on demand through nine-months of pregnancy. What is so horrid about Rauner’s incumbency, and what is fatal to his cause, is that his screw-ups repel the reasonable voters, neither stridently “D,” nor “R,” who simply do not want to give everything to the Democrats in November 2018. These folks are the key to 2018. They are not partisans. They are our only path to the reapportionment conversation. I believe Rauner has irrevocably lost them for his serial incompetence. Rauner cannot be our future because of his past 32 months. Will Jeanne Ives, or Dan Cronin, or Peter Roskam, or David McSweeney, or Peter Breen or someone else get those voters? At this moment, I think each would beat Bruce on announcement, and each would qualify as a safe harbor for November voters who have had enough one-party domination. Maybe that is the slogan: “End One-Party Domination, Defeat Rauner.” Count me in. Now, who is the candidate?)

The youthful anti-abortion protesters who gathered at the Thompson Center called the governor’s decision to sign HB-40 a grave disappointment. David Cordaro is with the organization Students For Life. “Governor Rauner betrayed us. He betrayed the Republican party. And he betrayed the pro-life generation,” said Cordaro. (FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s an understatement to say that I was dumbfounded as to how I ended up on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) LGBTQ hate-list — I have never said or done anything to indicate hate for the LGBTQ community. When I called to inquire, SPLC informed me that I am guilty because I did a radio interview with Family Research Council Radio (FRC). I am a program coordinator for The Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform. org. The segment was about socialism, but because FRC holds traditional family values, I was labeled an LGBT-hater just for being a guest on the show. No LGBT topics even came-up. SPLC’s hate-list exemplifies a bullying tactic employed by the left to silence conservative ideas. Regardless of the issue, support for the conservative point of view results in a litany of hateful labels and reputation-smearing. The goal is to paint any opposition to the far left as morally depraved and, therefore, unworthy of being included in conversation. Dr. Carol Swain, an African-American woman and former Vanderbilt professor, is a perfect case-in-point; she was labeled a white supremacist sympathizer by the SPLC for pointing-out SPLC’s hypocrisy on racial issues. This tactic is more than illogical; it’s dangerous. Reckless and irresponsible hate-labeling not only stifles free speech and expression, it empowers and emboldens vicious groups and individuals to violently attack people. Consider the 2012 Family Research Council shooting, when a man walked into the organization’s office in Washington, D.C., with 100 rounds of ammunition and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He planned to kill as many staff members as possible and smear the sandwiches in their faces. He said he chose his target based on SPLC’s Hate Map.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The normally bustling corner of Front and Main streets in downtown Wheaton was even busier Saturday afternoon as more than 100 sign-waving protesters gathered to protest a local landlord. The group’s members, led by longtime Wheaton resident Jessica Prewitt, were speaking out against local businessman Robert Sandberg and a sign he posted two years ago inside the front door of a former Vietnamese restaurant that says the owners “went back to Vietnam.” The groundswell developed after Prewitt Wednesday posted a picture of the sign on social media. “To me, that sign says, ‘You’re not welcome here, get out,'” Prewitt said Saturday outside Sandberg’s men’s clothing store. “Wheaton is a very tolerant, diverse community. There’s just no room for that here.” Protesters lined the corner in front of Sandberg’s store, at times blocking his front door, holding signs that read “Diversity is Delightful,” “Be Kind,” “Give Hate no Home” and “Wheaton Welcomes All.” Kate McElwee brought her two young daughters for what she called a “teaching moment.” “This is so much bigger than Mr. Sandberg versus the restaurant owners,” she said. “This is about us peacefully using our freedom of speech to speak out against an enemy of diversity in our community.” Some people not associated with the protest said they felt obligated to go buy something from Sandberg because they felt he was being treated unfairly. Others yelled things like “fake news!” and “say no to DACA” as they drove east on Front Street. Inside his store, Sandberg defended his right to keep the sign posted until he receives a handwritten apology from the owners of Luong-Loi, who he says skipped out on their rent and owe him $17,000. The operators of the restaurant, which eventually reopened across the street from its former location, deny on Facebook that they have any unmet obligations to Sandberg. “Look, what these snowflakes are doing out here is petty. I’m no racist,” Sandberg said of the protesters. “I have black friends and I’m actively supporting (former member of Congress from Florida) Allen West, who is black and a great, great man. This is a dispute between me and a former tenant who lied to me and who owes me money. Now these people have people calling my phone and telling me I’m a racist.” Sandberg said he posted the sign because he grew tired of people coming into his store and asking him what happened to the Vietnamese restaurant that had been there for about 30 years. And, he’s willing to take it down, with conditions. “It could be taken down yesterday. All you have to do is have them give me a letter saying that they lied to me. They told me wrong. They didn’t go back to Vietnam,” Sandberg said. “Give me a reason you did what you did or just say, ‘We told you wrong. We made a mistake.'” Luong-Loi serves lunch and dinner in a building formerly owned by Sandberg at 111-113 N. Main St. The city gained ownership of the long-vacant property in 2006 after six years of condemnation proceedings against Sandberg. In late 2014, the city council approved the sale of the building to the restaurateurs for $160,111. The restaurant reopened about a year later after extensive renovations of the building’s facade. Luong-Loi employees present Saturday declined to comment but pointed to a statement released Friday on their Facebook page. “On behalf of the Luong-Loi family, I want to thank Jessica and everyone here for their support and concern on this matter. Thank you to all our customers, the City of Wheaton, and the entire community for your continued support of our family and business,” the statement reads. “As for Mr. Sandberg and the ‘We went back to Vietnam’ sign: We want to thank Mr. Sandberg for allowing Luong-Loi to lease his property for the past 25-plus years. We have no other obligations to Mr. Sandberg.”)
