The opinions that I express in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are based on experience that I have gained doing many things since 1948. I base my opinions on what I learned a) working for the federal government for almost 30 years -- Post Office 1966-1969, IRS 1971-1980, and GAO 1980-1997, serving on the Executive Committee of the Association of Government Accountants Chicago Chapter 1983-1996, and being a union member while I worked for the Post Office and IRS; b) earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976, a masters degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, and a masters degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997; c) passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and passing the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981; c) serving as a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999, the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois Chairman 2005-2012, a member of the 2008 Illinois Republican Party (IRP) Platform and Resolutions Committee, a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member 2003-2011, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster 2008-2010 and 2000-2004, an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member 2003-2007, and an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member 2001-2004; d) attending the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 IRP State Conventions as a delegate; e) being the subject of a nasty 4-page article in the February 1978 issue of Money Magazine; f) pursing litigation including Diersen v. GAO and Diersen v. Chicago Car Exchange; g) being married since 1978; h) living in Crete 1948-1972, in University Park 1972-1976, in Chicago 1976-1978, and in DuPage County, Milton Township, and Wheaton since 1978; and i) being baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Serving in an attractive profession that offers great earning potential and a reliable array of career choices, accountants are historically sought after particularly during tough economies or similar times of crises. Despite such demand, the numbers within the profession remain unbalanced. Yes, women have come to represent more than 50 percent of accounting graduates over the last 20 years, and over the past 10, the percentages of accounting undergraduates and graduates who are minorities have also increased. In fact, aTrends report shows that 42 percent of accounting graduates are African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, Asian or Pacific Islander, multiethnic, or other. However, total minority hiring in the world of American CPAs has remained inexcusably low, and that must change so as to better serve both the workforce and its customers. The U.S. Census of 2010 predicted that minorities will be the majority by 2042 — that’s about two decades away from now — and communities and clients are shifting in their demographic makeup to reflect that. Moreover, the combined purchasing power of African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asians was at $4 trillion in 2018 according to the Selig Center for Economic Growth, and demographers predict that the growth of minority populations will contribute between 44-70 percent to the total growth of U.S. purchasing power from 2000 to 2045. Still, this isn’t groundbreaking news, and diversity initiatives have been nudging accounting departments and firms for years to sit up and notice that the United States is more of a melting pot than ever before. But the need for CPA firms to bolster diversity and inclusion — and to provide not just a seat at the table, but also a voice — has never been as critical or urgent as it is today. Because despite America being increasingly diverse, minority workers are still likelier than whites to be unemployed or declined a promotion or senior position. In 2016, Pew Research published that 40 percent of both men and women were more likely to hire men over women; in 2018, almost 90 percent of corporate executives were white and roughly 73 percent were male, and just three Fortune 500 companies in the country were headed by an African-American as CEO. Not much has changed since then, so it seems that while the world around the accounting profession is rapidly changing, the world within it is not.)

The past few months have been an unfolding drama of lawlessness in the streets, anti-American curricula planned for the schools, and overt attacks on foundational beliefs that most Americans hold dear. The upheaval has been swift and destructive, leading many to wonder how anyone either in or seeking an elected leadership position would not speak out forcefully against the carnage. Some Democrat leaders of the affected cities have either actively called on the police to stand down, or they have decided not to publicly condemn the burning, looting, and murdering in their cities. Many Republicans, on the other hand, have called for a return to law and order, expressing concern not only for residents and business owners but also for the first responders who are risking their lives trying to help injured people and protect property. Are these dichotomous responses indicative of the philosophies of these leaders’ political parties, or are they simply personal views that have nothing to do with party affiliation? A comparison of the Republican and Democrat party platforms can provide much-needed information about the worldviews and intentions of current leaders and those who might be elected on November 3. What is a party platform? Political party platforms are official declarations of the principles, policy stances, and action items of the parties. Every four years, political parties gather for their national conventions where they nominate their presidential and vice-presidential candidates. They also write their platforms, the documents that outline where they stand on specific issues and what they intend to do on those issues if their candidates are elected. The differences in 2020 are stark. Republican – Democrat If one were to judge the 2020 Republican and Democrat platforms simply by tone, even a cursory review of both would yield important insights into each party’s opinions of the country and its issues. The Democrat Party platform outlines what many might consider to be extremist views of this country – that it is irredeemably racist, that people who were instrumental in the founding and early leadership of the country are unworthy of respect or remembrance, and that the government should take over huge areas of its citizens’ lives. Law enforcement must be overhauled, and white supremacy and nationalism are ingrained sins that must be overcome. Schimpf, who’s not seeking re-election this year, saw his plans for a federal judgeship derailed. So he’s looking for something new after next month’s election. The attorney and retired Marine Corps officer has been a familiar face on the campaign circuit for other Republican candidates. He also has been speaking out against the graduated income tax ballot measure, which is backed by Pritzker. Gary Rabine, owner of a Rabine Group, a paving and concrete company based in Schaumburg, has hosted Trump events around Illinois, allowing him to get his name out with top-tier Republican supporters. Rabine, who headlines a podcast called Ditch Digger CEO, also has the ear of Charlie Kirk of Turning Point. Kinzinger, meanwhile, may be looking for a new challenge after nearly 10 years in the House — 12 if he wins re-election next month. He’s one of the few Republicans in Congress who hasn’t been afraid to call out President Donald Trump when he thinks the president’s tweets go too far. GOP sources say Kinzinger’s campaign team would like to see him run for governor, but he so far isn’t indicating whether he’s ready to make the leap. Other wildcards are Ricketts, whose family is on the Forbes billionaire list and is seen as someone who could match Pritzker’s ability to self-fund, and Porter, who’s become a notable name in GOP circles.
