GOPUSA ILLINOIS — DuPage Republicans should be allowed to help sponsor Wheaton’s Independence Day Parades and to get recognition for doing that – Dave Diersen http://www.gopillinois.com (THE ARTICLE: In his June 4, 2021 8:36 AM email to me and to the leaders of Wheaton, Wheaton Park District, Milton Township Republican Organization, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and Illinois Republican Party, Wheaton Park District Executive Director Michael Benard stated:
“While we are not accepting “sponsorships” for any aspect of the parade, you are welcome to make a general donation in support of the parade. It is not appropriate for the park district to sell sponsorships to political parties specifically identified to support the school district marching bands and we will not do so. As local governments, our elections and mission related activities are non-partisan. If your organization chooses to make a parade donation, it will be accepted with gratitude. Please know that it will not be appropriate for you to claim “sponsorship” of any school district or park district parade entries.”
I responded with “Needless-to-say, your new Wheaton Independence Day parade policy statement is a complete and dramatic reversal of Wheaton Independence Day parade policy that has been in place since at least 2005. Needless-to-say, any such complete and dramatic Wheaton Independence Day parade policy reversal would have to be voted on and passed by the Wheaton City Council before it could be implemented.”
I further respond that it was not my suggestion that DuPage Republicans be given specific recognition for sponsoring the bagpipers or the high school band entries, but it was the Wheaton Park District’s suggestion. I merely suggested that the $2,500 annual donations by DuPage Republicans be used for “patriotic” parade entries.
I certainly hope that the Wheaton Park District has contracted with the bagpipers and with the high school bands to march in the parade. It would be great if the Wheaton Park District would publish and update a list on its website of all the parade entries as they come in.
It would be great if the Wheaton Park District would publish detailed financial reports a) on all the money that it took in for the 2019 and prior Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks and b) exactly how the Wheaton Park District spent all that money. Exactly how has/will the Wheaton Park District spent/spend the $10,000 that it has received from the City of Wheaton for the 2021 parade and fireworks?
If DuPage Republicans again donated $2,500 for the parade and fireworks, exactly what recognition would DuPage Republicans get for that donation from the Wheaton Park District?
It would be great if at that meeting, Mr. Benard would give the Wheaton City Council a detailed report on exactly what the Wheaton Park District has done, is doing, and will do to make Wheaton’s 2021 Independence Day Parade a great success.
I will address the aforesaid issues during the “Citizens To Be Heard” part of the meeting.
A regular meeting of the Wheaton Park District Board of Commissioners is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 5:00 PM. If the aforesaid issues are not resolved by then, I will address them during the “Community Input” part of the meeting.)
