The most dramatic is in the new 107th District, which could see a primary between four sitting Republican representatives: Dan Caulkins (R-101), Brad Halbrook (R-102), Blaine Wilhour (R-107) and Adam Niemerg (R-109). Political analyst Andrew Ellison has pulled together a map of what the new district could look like once approved. Republicans, who have spent weeks calling for an independent process, were quick to condemn the maps and called on Gov. J.B. A few pairings of incumbents are happening in the state Senate, too. (FROM THE ARTICLE: February was a busy month for Students for Fair Admissions Inc. (“SFFA”), an anti-affirmative action organization. On February 25, 2021, SFFA sued Yale claiming that Yale’s affirmative action admissions policy unfairly favors Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander applicants over white and Asian applicants. (This, despite the fact that the U.S. Department of Justice dropped a similar suit against Yale less than a month earlier.) Perhaps unsurprisingly, SFFA also sued Harvard College (in case you’re wondering, Harvard College is the undergraduate institution of Harvard University) back in 2014, claiming that Harvard’s admissions policy disadvantaged Asian American applicants. After a lengthy stay, the district court in that case found that Harvard’s policy was not unlawful and the First Circuit affirmed. On the same day that SFFA filed its lawsuit against Yale, it asked the Supreme Court to weigh in on its suit against Harvard. If the Supreme Court hears the case, it will be the first time since 2016 (when Justice Kennedy cast the deciding vote upholding an affirmative action program in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin) —and the first time since conservatives gained a 6-3 majority—that the Supreme Court will decide an affirmative action case. While it was created “Especially for undergraduate students, staff, and faculty of color,” the school provided “limited seating” for colorless people. I wonder if those seats were way in the back. One Wheaton faculty member who likely loves Wheaton’s embrace of re-segregation is associate professor of philosophy and critical race theorist Nathan Cartagena who was recently interviewed for leftist Christian Jim Wallis’ Sojourners’ magazine. In this interview, Cartagena explained how he sussed out Wheaton’s friendliness to CRT by delivering a visiting lecture on controversial critical race theorist Tommy Curry during the interview process: I wanted to see: Is this a place that would welcome such reflection? I received a warm welcome from the students, my department, etc., so I thought “OK, this is a place where I can do this.” And by “do this,” Cartagena meant, not expose students to the debate on CRT, but to promote CRT: I taught a reading group my first year at Wheaton that involved one of the important texts in the critical race theory movement, Faces at the Bottom of the Well by Derrick Bell.
