In 1997, when I was 49 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer.” They had made it clear to me, that if I did not take their “offer,” they would constructively demote me and even worse things. They made it clear to me that they would get rid of me long before I would be eligible for regular retirement in 2003. Previously they a) had given me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, b) had always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, c) had not promoted me beyond GS-13, d) had gotten rid of my mentor in 1987, e) had kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and f) had forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. Previously, my Democrat IRS superiors a) had not promoted me beyond GS-12, b) had disallowed my education deductions in 1978, c) had gotten rid of my mentor in 1975, and d) had disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. Previously, my Democrat Post Office superiors a) had forced me resign in 1969 and b) had disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. WASHINGTON POST
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: An anti-Trump says “House provides no 2019 pay raise for federal employees; conflicts with Senate.” How strongly will my critics/opponent, their operatives, and their dupes in the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and the Illinois Republican Party hint/imply/argue/shout that those who voted for Trump a) want Trump to get rid of past, present, and future federal employees once and for all and b) especially want Trump to get rid of me? I was a federal employee for almost 30 years and I have been a federal retiree for almost 21 years.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2018/07/20/house-provides-no-2019-pay-raise-for-feds-conflicts-with-senate/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: It’s been a tough week for federal employees. On Monday, there was yet another display that their top boss is hopelessly unsuited for the White House with President Trump’s obsequious behavior in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump undermined federal employees who reported Putin’s attack on the 2016 presidential election. On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee approved two measures that would speed the firing of feds by weakening civil service protections. On Thursday, the House effectively dumped on raising pay for federal employees in 2019 by passing an appropriations bill that included no increase. While the workforce and the rest of us are stuck with Trump for at least two more years, the House actions are not the final word on pay and disciplinary measures. . .House Republicans also don’t care for the current level of federal employees’ civil service protections. Two bills approved by the Oversight Committee with party-line votes would allow management to fire feds faster by weakening their workplace due-process rights. The measures require full House and Senate action before becoming law. One bill would accelerate disciplinary procedures, including termination, by cutting time allowed for appeals. The general probationary period for feds would double to two years, allowing more time to take disciplinary action against new employees who have fewer rights. Another piece of legislation would lower the burden of proof that managers need to fire workers, among other provisions. “Working for the United States federal government is an honor and a privilege, and most federal employees value the opportunity and work hard to serve the American people,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) said following the committee vote. “However, some federal employees have learned they can use the system to protect their jobs regardless of their poor performance or bad behavior.” He called the committee’s action “a huge step to creating a more efficient and effective government that works for the people, streamlining the process and lessening the time it takes to dismiss poor performing or negligent employees.” Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Md.) the ranking Democrat on the Oversight Committee, disagreed. The legislation “raises serious concerns about fairness and due process,” he said, adding it “will weaken merit system principles and politicize the federal workforce.”)

ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION
— Days after announcing new hire, Atlanta mayor takes back job offer – Stephen Deere Vanessa McCray (DIERSEN: Have you ever had a job offer withdrawn after you had accepted it? That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS.)

FORBES
— Don’t Chase The Money! There Are More Important Things To Look For In A Job – Michael B. Arthur (DIERSEN: Have you taken a pay cut? I have. In 1980, when I was 31 years old, I took a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars (from GS-12 Step 5 down to GS-9 Step 10) to transfer from IRS to GAO. QUESTION: Why did I do that? ANSWER: GAO claimed to be nonpartisan and independent. My Democrat IRS superiors and Money Magazine had ruined my IRS career. GAO employees are somewhat less demonized, denigrated, and condemned than IRS employees are. Because GAO audits IRS, I could use my knowledge of IRS on audits of IRS. I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. The GAO staff manager who hired me was confident that he could a) promptly get me assigned to audits of IRS and b) promptly promote me to GS-11 Step 10, currently $87,933, to GS-12 Step 5, currently $91,880, and to GS-13 Step 1, currently $96,403. But soon after I transferred to GAO, that GAO manager was deposed and he was not able to promote me to GS-11 Step 10 until 1981, to GS-12 Step 5 salary until 1982, and to GS-13 Step 1 until 1986. In 1986, he finally succeeded in getting me assigned to audits of IRS. In 1987, his Democrat superiors succeeded in forcing him to retire. To justify their forcing me to take a pay cut to transfer from IRS to GAO, my Democrat GAO superiors dismissed/belittled/badmouthed/demonized/denigrated/condemned a) my knowledge of IRS, b) my passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c) my almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul and then my earning that degree in 1980, and d) my earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran. Money Magazine, my Democrat superiors, GAO, IRS, and Post Office supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates, and the rest of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized me, viciously denigrated me, and viciously condemned me as being overpaid.)

— Democrats try to rebuild the state party from the ground up – Rich Miller (DIERSEN: He who pays the piper calls the tunes. How much money has your Republican county and township/ward party organizations received this year from the Illinois Republican Party, that is, from Bruce Rauner?)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/illinois-democrats-blue-wave-rebuild-party/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But last week, the county organization received a $5,000 check from the Rock Island County Democratic Party. Warren is one of 14 counties that received a total of more than $200,000 from the Rock Island Dems last week. Warren’s check tied with Effingham County’s for being the smallest. The Kankakee County Democrats received about $28,000. Kane County’s Dems received about $20,000. Williamson County got about $14,000. The Metro East’s Madison County Democrats have so far received the largest check in this initial round: $45,495. The Carroll County Democrats have raised an average of about $3,000 a year for the past 18 years, but they received $7,523.50 last week. As I’ve told you before, the Rock Island Democratic Party Chairman is Doug House, who also runs the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association. Because state campaign finance laws allow unlimited contributions between county-level party organizations, the J.B. Pritzker campaign gave House’s Rock Island Democrats $1 million earlier this year as the first installment on its “Blue Wave Illinois 2018” program. . .Several county parties, particularly Downstate, have few actual precinct committeepersons. In Chicago and suburban Cook, precinct captains are appointed by local township and ward committeemen. They don’t have to live in the precincts assigned to them. Everywhere else, committeepersons are elected in their precincts — and it’s not easy convincing people to run for that office, particularly in overwhelmingly Republican areas. However, those county chairs can fill vacancies, and the appointed committeepersons don’t have to live in the precincts they represent, so a big push is on to get counties to a minimum level of 75 percent coverage. Some local party officials have also been told that the million-dollar contribution from Pritzker is just the first round. More party-building money is coming. By contrast, as of last week Gov. Bruce Rauner’s campaign had given a total of about $33,000 divided between nine county and township Republican organizations since the March primary. The Illinois Republican Party chipped in another $25,000 during the same time period for a handful of county organizations. J.B. Pritzker’s campaign has contributed $5.7 million to various Democratic groups and candidates since the primary, including big bucks to several suburban and Chicago political organizations. Pritzker’s campaign gave the St. Clair County Democrats $200,000 during the primary and it paid off big. Pritzker won St. Clair with 76 percent of the vote.)

— Radical idea? Alderman proposes free money for some of Chicago’s poorest – Adam Thorp (DIERSEN: How much money would it take to get you to leave your job? One could argue that in 1997 when I was 49 years old, it took only $51,864/year in today’s dollars to get me to leave my GAO job that paid $125,325/year in today’s dollars. $51,864/year is my Civil Service Retirement System pension.)

But the Trump administration has capped refugee admissions to 45,000 for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 — the lowest figure since the Refugee Act of 1980. Advocates expect the actual number to reach roughly half that based on State Department statistics. World Relief’s suburban offices have resettled a combined 133 refugees through June. Pence’s speech, titled “Tax Cuts to Put America First,” is part of a series sponsored by America First Policies, a non-profit organization that promotes the policies of the Trump Administration — the Rosemont stop is the 17th on the tour. Other speakers at the event included U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., and Gov. Bruce Rauner, who was to introduce Pence. At previous speeches in Iowa and Kansas City, Pence talked about energy, agriculture and labor plans that were all implemented to achieve Trump’s campaign promise to “Make America great again.” In Rosemont, people from around the state, decked out in flag shawls and bright red “Make America Great Again” baseball caps, waited to hear from the vice president.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180713/pence-fires-up-voters-for-upcoming-midterm-elections
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Almost immediately after Pence took the stage, protesters inside the Westin O’Hare grand ballroom made their presence known. In total, Pence’s speech was interrupted five times by protesters, who were escorted out of the building by police. One woman held a yellow flag that read, “Trump and Pence must go.” When Pence began to praise U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, of Wheaton, a man said, “Has anyone seen Peter Roskam? I haven’t seen him. Where is he?” Each time, the crowd of about 600 chanted “USA! USA!” Tickets to the event, called “Tax Cuts to Put America First,” were free and available by registering on the website of America First Policies, the group connected to the pro-Trump America First Action super PAC. “Thanks for coming out today. I’m really grateful for almost everybody that came,” Pence joked to the crowd. “I respect everybody that came. That’s what freedom sounds like.” Rosemont authorities said no one was charged, and they described the protest of some 100 people outside the hotel as peaceful. Police, at the behest of the Secret Service, pushed protesters across River Road to the east sidewalk northeast of the hotel. Rosemont public safety officers used their bikes as crowd control. Pence’s caravan used a back entrance, avoiding the protesters. “We are advocating getting rid of the Trump/Pence regime through persistent, persistent nonviolent protests,” said Tricey Morelli, spokesman for the Chicago chapter of Refuse Fascism.)

— OUTSTANDINGLY, 19 REPUBLICANS ARE HELPING SPONSOR WHEATON’S INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS AND PARADE! Illinois Republican Party leader and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar has contributed $500, Judge Jeff MacKay has contributed $250, and DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan have contributed $150. I have hand delivered flyers to residences on the parade route, including Main Street and two blocks east and west of Main Street south of Harrison Street, and businesses that lists the Republican entries in the parade, the Republican sponsors, and the amount that they contributed. The flyers were printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics.

Republican entries in the parade are Peter Roskam, Peter Breen, Paul Hinds, James Mendrick, Grant Eckhoff/Tim Elliott/Chris Zaruba, Jeff McKay, Karen Wilson, and Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC). According to reports, Amy Grant and Jeanne Ives will walk with the Breen entry and Evelyn Sanguinetti and Erika Harold will walk with the MTRCC entry. — Rauner running uphill as Democrats await sure win – Jim Dey (DIERSEN: In Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton, anti-conservatives have always blamed conservatives for losses that Republicans have suffered.)
http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/columns/2018-07-03/jim-dey-rauner-running-uphill-democrats-await-sure-win.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner, who barely escaped an embarrassing defeat in the March primary, needs a united Republican Party behind him if he’s going to defeat his well-heeled Democratic opponent, J.B. Pritzker, in the November election. But that is looking more and more difficult. As time passes, estranged conservatives appear more determined to see Rauner lose and Pritzker win. Two recent events demonstrate the problem Rauner has. Conservative state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton almost ended Rauner’s dream of a second four-year term in the primary. Rauner received just 51 percent of the primary vote to 49 percent for Ives. Despite that, some Republican leaders hoped that Ives might be persuaded to support Rauner in the general election. After all, if Pritzker wins, Democrats will regain total control of state government and her political party will be relegated to the irrelevant status it endured from 2003 to 2015, when the GOP captured the governor’s office. But time has not healed the sting of defeat for Ives. Asked last week about her intentions, an embittered Ives indicated there is no way she’ll endorse Rauner. “No. I’m not going to endorse the governor. I’m going to let him buy back his voters,” she said. Ives’ differences with Rauner are strictly ideological. A social conservative, she deeply resented Rauner’s decision to sign legislation authorizing taxpayer-funded abortions. Ives is not alone, as demonstrated by the strong support she received in the primary. To make matters worse for Rauner, there’s state Sen. Sam McCann of Plainview. He’s masquerading as a conservative disenchanted with Rauner. But for him, this is strictly business.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican candidates running for the state assembly are fretting about campaign coffers that seem bare. They wonder if/when Gov. Bruce Rauner will give another infusion. He donated $50,000 to the state Republican Party last month. GOP incumbents recognize the governor is in a high-stakes battle for his own office. “For every dollar Bruce puts in his campaign, J.B. Pritzker is putting in $2,” noted one GOP lawmaker, referring to Rauner’s billionaire Democratic opponent. The governor might not want to encourage the tit for tat. Another lawmaker says Republicans are bracing for a possible Blue Wave and know the only thing that can save them is cash. A source above the fray, however, tells me Rauner has every intention of donating to the legislators’ campaign fund. “It’s only the beginning of July (for crying out loud). The governor is 100 percent committed.” Rauner apparently is working to get others to donate, too. The Numbers: According to the Illinois Sunshine election database, the Illinois Republican Party has $509,000 available. There are 118 House seats up for grabs and 39 Senate seats. Lawmakers hope to see a cash infusion in the next 30 days or so. That’s a few weeks before campaign season really kicks in.)

http://www.wnd.com/2018/07/7-ways-to-uphold-true-patriotism/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Those of us who really love America and all our flag represents should reflect on those questions this week of Independence Day. Our nation’s illustrious history cannot sustain a real and lasting patriotism forever. We must move beyond superficial displays and emotional song lyrics, and apply some tough love to our long-neglected nation. Here are some immediate steps to take: Commit yourself first and foremost to the God who endowed us with unalienable rights and who defines Truth and Justice. Champion the integrity of marriage and the family – especially your own. Strong families make strong nations. Reread the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Remember that the purpose of government is to protect the rights of the people and administer justice (not to redistribute wealth or provide for its citizens’ needs and wants) and that the federal government is limited to those powers specifically named in the Constitution. Support only public policies that adhere to these precepts. Vote only for candidates who demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to these principles. Practice and promote private charity. Promote the use of the Constitution’s own mechanism (in Article V) for making needed clarifications or adjustments to the Constitution and restoring the delicate balance of power it prescribes. Learn more at www.conventionofstates.com. Let’s make America’s present and future – not just her past – worthy of the well-founded admiration and honor that characterize true patriotism.)

June 30 Evening Edition

DAILY HERALD
— Palatine Hometown Fest parade draws a crowd, despite the heat – James Kane (DIERSEN: Peter Roskam will be in Wheaton’s Independence Day parade along with Peter Breen, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Paul Hinds, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliot, Chris Zaruba, James Mendrick, Jeff MacKay, Karen Wilson, Evelyn Sanguinetti, and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee. DuPage County Republicans are sponsoring the Tunes of Glory Pipes & Drums and the Wheaton North and South high school bands.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180630/palatine-hometown-fest-parade-draws-a-crowd-despite-the-heat
(FROM THE ARTICLE: While the event led off with a large contingent of police vehicles and officers, followed by fire equipment, much more numerous were the legions of people marching in support of Republican candidates for state, local and national office. . .Gov. Bruce Rauner and attorney general candidate Erika Harrold were among the statewide candidates working the crowd in the sweltering heat, but the largest group of political marchers was backing U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, who is in a tough reelection fight. The Republicans were followed by a small contingent of marchers supporting Democratic candidates.)

— Inside Facebook and Twitter’s secret meetings with Trump aides and conservative leaders – Tony Romm (DIERSEN: Who are the conservative leaders in Illinois, in your county, in your township/ward, and in your municipality? How often do they publish articles on their websites in support of the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform? Who reads their articles? Who reads their emails?)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180630/inside-facebook-and-twitters-secret-meetings-with-trump-aides-and-conservative-leaders
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Twitter and Facebook are scrambling to assuage conservative leaders who have sounded alarms — and sought to rile voters — with accusations that the country’s tech giants are censoring right-leaning posts, tweets and news. From secret dinners with conservative media elite to private meetings with the Republican National Committee, the new outreach reflects tech giants’ delicate task: satisfying a party in power while defending online platforms against attacks that threaten to undermine the public’s trust in the web. . . . To address the allegations, Dorsey has tried to break bread — quite literally — with his company’s critics. The Twitter executive convened a rare private dinner with Republican leaders and conservative commentators in Washington last week at Cafe Milano, a familiar Georgetown haunt for city power brokers, according to four people who participated in the dinner but requested anonymity because it was off the record. The gathering came weeks after Dorsey invoked conservatives’ ire by tweeting a story suggesting voters should elect Democrats in November — and after he made his first official visit to Congress. Among those attending the June 19 dinner were Mercedes Schlapp, a top communications adviser for Trump; Grover Norquist, the leader of Americans for Tax Reform; Greta Van Susteren, a right-leaning host on MSNBC; and Guy Benson, a Fox News commentator, according to the people in the room. Dorsey hoped to use the dinner as a way to build “trust” among conservatives who have long chastised the company, three of the people said. He defended Twitter against accusations that it targeted right-leaning users unfairly but still admitted that the company has room for improvement, according to the attendees. In response, the Twitter executive heard an earful from conservatives gathered at the table, who scoffed at the fact that Dorsey runs a platform that’s supposed to be neutral even though he’s tweeted about issues like immigration, gay rights and national politics. They also told Dorsey that the tech industry’s efforts to improve diversity — after years of criticism for maintaining a largely white, male workforce — should focus on hiring engineers with more diverse political viewpoints as well, according to those who dined with him in Washington. A spokesman for Twitter declined to comment on the dinner.)
