CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Take it from me — and my father — anti-white bias is not the problem – Alysia Tate  (DIERSEN: Who should pay the price of Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion?  According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, it should be those like me who are White, male, healthy, non-veteran, conservative, Republican, Protestant, German-American, and those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time, those who are not poor, and those who have no dependents. In my defense, neither of my parents attended college, my father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma, and my mother never attended high school. My father fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, worked in the office of a chemical plant, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, did not buy a new car until he was 45, a 2-door bottom of the line Chevy, and died suddenly in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21. My mother was a housewife and homemaker.)

DAILY HERALD
— FRONT PAGE: Naperville resident Bill Eagan pitches tighter requirements for school finance officials – Marie Wilson  (DIERSEN: What professional certifications, professional licenses, education, and work experience do those elected/appointed officials have who represent you?  I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981. I became a licensed CPA in 1981, Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and Forensic Accountant in 1997. I earned a bachelors degree in management from NIU in 1970, an MBA from Loyola in 1976, a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997.  I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $79,563-$90,173.  I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13, Step 1-10 levels, currently $94,610-$122,991.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20170821/naperville-man-pitches-tighter-requirements-for-school-finance-officials
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bill Eagan, a former chief school business official for Hinsdale High School District 86, says the district’s top money manager should be a certified public accountant or certified management accountant. Along with that requirement, he says, the person in that job should report directly to the school board. Eagan, a CPA and CMA who comes from a corporate accounting and finance background, has met with three suburban state representatives who are on a House committee about licensing, administration and oversight for elementary and secondary education. He said increasing the financial literacy requirements to be a chief school business official, abbreviated in education circles as CSBO, will help school districts operate more efficiently and keep more of their money in the classroom.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Rauner names names — says Trump’s Virginia remarks ‘damage America’ – Tina Sfondeles  (DIERSEN: According to anti-Trumps, if you condemn what Trump says or does, you not only condemn Trump, you condemn everyone who voted for Trump.)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/rauner-calls-trump-out-says-virginia-remarks-damage-america/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: After months of refusing to even utter President Donald Trump’s name, Gov. Bruce Rauner on Wednesday called his fellow Republican out for remarks that “damage America,” saying he “vehemently disagrees with the president’s comments about the tragedy in Charlottesville.” The rare mention of Trump’s name came on Governor’s Day at the Illinois State Fair after reporters asked the governor about the president’s comments in New York on Tuesday that “both sides” are to blame for the violence in Virginia. “I vehemently disagree with the president’s comments about the tragedy in Charlottesville,” Rauner said. “I vehemently disagree with the president’s comments. We must stand together against hatred and racism and bigotry and violence and we must condemn those actions in Charlottesville in the strongest terms.” The governor was asked why he still would not mention Trump’s name. “I just said ‘president,’” Rauner said. “President Trump. I vehemently disagree with his comments. We have to condemn that sort of action those actions by frankly disgusting despicable white supremacist groups, we’ve got to call them that and we’ve got to condemn their actions.” Trump has sparked outrage with his response to the violent weekend  protests by white supremacist groups that ended in three deaths — a woman killed when a car plowed into a crowd of counter-protesters and two Virginia state troopers killed in a helicopter crash while doing surveillance. On Saturday, Trump said “many sides” are to blame.  Then after two days of criticism from Democrats and Republicans, he read a statement Monday declaring “racism is evil” and specifically describing the KKK, neo-Nazis and white supremacists as “criminals and thugs.” But on Tuesday he reverted back  to his initial take on the situation, saying “very violent” counter-protesters in Charlottesville  — whom the president dubbed “the alt-left” — share in the blame. “You look at both sides,” Trump told reporters at Trump Tower in New York.  “I think there’s blame on both sides. And I have no doubt about it. And you don’t have any doubt about it, either.” Dating back to last year’s presidential campaign, Rauner has walked a careful line with Trump, distancing himself from the billionaire developer and reality TV star to avoid alienating moderate Republicans or independents in the blue state of Illinois. But Rauner has largely sidestepped harsh criticism to avoid a backlash from Trump supporters who also back the governor. For the most part, Rauner has steadfastly refused to even discuss Trump. In February, Rauner boycotted a dinner the president hosted for 46 governors at the White House during the National Governors Association meeting. Rauner left Washington early, rather than risk being photographed with Trump. Rauner had his own stumble responding to the Charlottesville protests. On Monday he condemned the “racism, hatred and violence” as “appalling” and “completely beyond anything that America should be about.” But the governor hesitated in calling it “terrorism.” He did so hours later — after saying he consulted with law enforcement — saying the Charlottesville tragedy was “absolutely an act of domestic terrorism.” Rauner showed no hesitation on Wednesday in denouncing Trump’s take on the situation. “What I care about is the comments damage America,” Rauner said. “We are all Americans. It doesn’t matter what party. It doesn’t matter who we vote for. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we stand for justice and fairness and equality. That’s what America is about and racism and bigotry and violence has no place in our society.”)

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/democrats-republicans-finally-agree-think-tanks-cartoon-is-s/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: An emotional state Rep. Jaime Andrade brought lawmakers to their feet on Wednesday in denouncing an Illinois Policy Institute cartoon that depicted a young African-American boy from Chicago begging for money for school from a wealthy white man with half empty pockets. The North Side Democrat denounced the cartoon as “s—,” prompting Democrats to rise to give him a standing ovation, with Republicans quickly joining in. The conservative think tank defended the cartoon, arguing it was not racist, but late Wednesday took it down from the organization’s web site, saying the controversy was a distraction from the real issue, “the failure of political leaders to address the root cause of our struggling education system.” The cartoon was intended to depict how Chicago doesn’t use TIF funds for education — amid the conservative think tank’s push to have Chicago deal with its pension mess outside of the school funding debate. Both the governor and the institute believe Chicago is using its TIF districts to hide property tax money, thus needing more money from the state. But the image sparked anger and emotion on the floor, from both sides of the aisle. The debate over the image began on Twitter when state Rep. Christian Mitchell, D-Chicago, called it a “Sambo” cartoon. The man in the cartoon is showing the child an empty pocket on his right, with “TIF $” coming out of his left pocket. The child is sitting on the floor with a backpack, a Cubs hat and holding a sign that reads “Need money 4 school.” “Are you saying that wealthy white businessmen are not using TIF to take money from black and brown kids?’ the Illinois Policy Institute tweeted in an exchange with Mitchell. Mitchell, in turn, argued that the group could have “drawn another kid. “You could have drawn an african american child without exaggerated features (ie lips),” he wrote. “But you made a different choice, one that links to a dark and troubled history,” Mitchell tweeted.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Rauner breaks Trump silence, criticizes president’s Charlottesville response – Rick Pearson (DIERSEN: According to anti-Trumps, if you condemn what Trump says or does, you not only condemn Trump, you condemn everyone who voted for Trump.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-bruce-rauner-republicans-fair-met-0817-20170816-story.html
(FROM THE RTICLE: After steering clear of discussing President Donald Trump or even uttering his name for many months, Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner on Wednesday issued a harsh denunciation of the president’s take on the deadly Virginia protest. “I vehemently disagree with the president’s comments about the tragedy in Charlottesville,” Rauner said. “We must stand together against hatred and racism and bigotry and violence and we must condemn those actions in Charlottesville in the strongest terms.” “What I care about, the comments damage America. We are all Americans. It doesn’t matter what party, it doesn’t matter who we vote for,” Rauner told reporters after arriving for Governor’s Day at the Illinois State Fair on a Harley-Davidson, his traditional method of entry. “What matters is that we stand for justice and fairness and equality. That’s what America is about. And racism and bigotry and violence has no place in our society.” Rauner’s pushback to Trump contrasted with a morning breakfast and an afternoon Republican rally where the governor didn’t mention the president’s much-criticized Tuesday remarks in which he equated neo-Nazi and white supremacist protesters with counterprotesters. The traditional Republican rally featured no Trump signs, though a vendor was selling red Trump-themed “Make America Great Again” hats. Still, the controversies swirling around the president hung over the festivities much like the rain clouds over the fairgrounds. Rauner’s Trump comments came two days after he initially told reporters in Chicago that he could not say that the death of protester Heather Heyer, who was mourned at Wednesday services after being struck Saturday by a car driven by a white supremacist supporter, was an act of “domestic terrorism.” Later, Rauner’s office issued a statement saying the governor “absolutely” believed the death to be domestic terrorism. The governor’s reticence in mentioning Trump or responding to his comments and programs dates back to at least March 2016, when Rauner said he would support the eventual Republican presidential nominee without ever saying Trump’s name. Later that month, Rauner told north suburban school children he was “horrified” by the rhetoric of the GOP presidential campaign without naming Trump. In addition, the governor notably skipped last year’s GOP national convention in Cleveland where Trump was nominated. Rauner’s cautious Trump strategy didn’t stop a federal super political action committee from airing ads last fall that aimed to connect Trump to the rest of Illinois Republicans. The unconventional president has presented a political conundrum for Rauner, the first-term GOP governor of a Democratic state who is seeking re-election next year. Rauner is actively seeking support from largely rural Downstate areas that backed Trump over Democrat Hillary Clinton last year. But Rauner also must find a way to restore a base in the suburban collar counties that are a key area of support for a Republican running statewide. Though the collars traditionally lean Republican, all but McHenry County went for Clinton last year. By deciding to aggressively criticize Trump, Rauner may be abandoning an effort to try to find a middle ground that simply sought to avoid any mention of the controversial president, realizing that while more Downstate counties have been turning Republican, the number of voters there is far fewer than in the more populated Chicago suburbs. In addition, Rauner’s move against Trump also may be aimed at trying to regain support among crucial moderate suburban women. The governor could face challenges winning over that voting bloc following the budget and school funding disputes as well as his vow to veto a measure he once supported in concept to expand the availability of abortions under Medicaid and state employee health insurance. Rauner might not have much room for error. In 2014, he barely defeated a lackluster Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn by 4 percentage points, or roughly 140,000 votes, despite capturing every one of Illinois’ 102 counties save for heavily Democratic Cook County. On Wednesday, Rauner said the actions of neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville were “frankly, disgusting, despicable.” “White supremacists groups. We’ve got to call them that and we’ve got to condemn their actions,” the governor said. Rauner’s hand-picked state GOP chairman, Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, told reporters the weekend events in Virginia were “abhorrent.” But Schneider refused to respond to the president’s comments, at one point saying, “I’m not Donald Trump’s campaign manager. I don’t speak for the president of the United States.” Asked if Trump could hurt GOP chances next year, Schneider said, “I’m not Carnac and I’m not going to predict what’s going to happen in the future,” referring to the late TV host Johnny Carson’s character of a mystic soothsayer. But U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Taylorville took on Trump’s comments head on. Davis was on the Alexandria, Va., ballfield when a gunman wounded U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and two Capitol police during a June GOP practice for a charity softball game. “I hope the president clarifies his remarks once again, and I hope the president can be a voice of calm and a voice of reason at a time where we can come together and stop the hate and the vitriol that we see in the American political climate today,” Davis said. “Frankly, anybody that wants to carry a Nazi flag on American soil is not good people and I disagree” with the president. Across town, the Illinois House approved a resolution 105-0 condemning the acts of violence in Charlottesville as domestic terrorism and repudiating white supremacists, neo-Nazis, the Ku Klux Klan, and any other group that espouses hate. To a breakfast audience of largely Downstate GOP county chairmen, Rauner assailed Chicago and its “political machine” and predicted Republican values would lead to the ouster of his chief political nemesis, Democrat Michael Madigan, as speaker of the House. “We stand for liberty, individual freedom. We stand for personal responsibility,” Rauner said. “We stand for limited government that allows the individual to define himself or herself and thrive. We stand for low taxes.” Those values, the governor contended, would result next year in a nine-seat pickup in the Illinois House, where Republicans currently hold 51 seats to 67 for the Madigan-led Democrats. “The battle ahead of us is tough — boy it’s just tough,” Rauner acknowledged, because “our system is so broken.” “We’re up against an incredibly powerful political machine in Chicago. They have dictated the terms in our state for decades and they haven’t even run their machine really for the benefit for the people of Chicago. Just look at the unemployment. Look at the terrible schools. Look at the violence in Chicago. Look at the taxes going through the roof in Chicago,” said the governor, once again using the politics of geography to attack the Democratic-dominated city. Democrats, Rauner continued, “don’t run the government for the benefit of the people of central Illinois, southern Illinois or northwest Illinois or the suburbs of Chicago either. We have a broken political system run by a political machine in Chicago that’s run for the benefit of politicians and their cronies,” he said. While Rauner criticized the president’s Virginia comments, it was Trump who helped the Illinois GOP score a net gain of four House seats last November. Republican candidates outpolled Democratic incumbents in Downstate counties where Trump was rolling up 50- and 60-percentage-point margins.)

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/08/16/twelve-memorials-democrats-racist/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If Democrats seeking the removal of historical memorials tied to racist history are serious, they should be tripping over one another to get in front of a camera and call for the removal of memorials and namesakes to Presidents Andrew Johnson, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lyndon Baines Johnson, and Sen. Robert C Byrd. These five men had two things in common–all had a penchant for racism to one degree or another, and all were Democrats. Some of the memorials to them are monuments, some are groves, others are highways, bridges, colleges, and even cemeteries. Of course, the cemeteries ought not be disturbed, but they should be renamed if the Democrats are serious about rooting out the vestiges of racism.)

https://www.forbes.com/sites/cartoonoftheday/2017/08/14/the-no-1-reason-employers-want-older-workers/#342384cf4fcb
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Skills retention. It’s something that many companies are now looking at with renewed vigor. Retirement can deprive businesses of critical experience and practical knowledge, which is lost when older workers head for the door and a younger, less “seasoned” generation moves in to take their place. This leaves CEOs and young entrepreneurs in a bind as they search for workers with understanding, expertise and wisdom. To counter this, many businesses are now actively courting older workers with incentives to either stay or come back. Sorry, Mark Zuckerberg. The Facebook CEO once famously said, “Young people are just smarter.” And the numbers are remarkable. One study found that productivity did not peak until age 50, 60% higher than that of the average 20-year-old. So older workers are coming back, and another reason for increases in their employment was the financial crisis of 2008 . As 401ks dried up and savings dwindled, many older workers were forced back into the workforce out of sheer necessity. Now companies are seeing the benefits of coveting their maturity, talents and know-how.)

— This tax reform idea could cost you–a lot – DENNIS RODKIN
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/realestate/20170810/CRED0701/170819998
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With federal tax reform on Congress’s agenda after its August recess, two ideas that have been circulating have the potential to hit Chicago-area homeowners, one of them much harder than the other. Two federal tax deductions—one for mortgage interest and the other for state and local taxes—are in the crosshairs of reformers. The mortgage interest deduction would likely be revised, not eliminated, because it’s a hallowed perk of homeownership, most reports say. But the loss of the state and local tax deduction would cut deeper in the Chicago region anyway, analysts in the real estate, mortgage and tax realms told Crain’s this week. Eliminating the state and local tax deduction could transfer almost $2.9 billion a year out of household wealth and into federal coffers, according to Brian Bernardoni, senior director of government affairs and public policy for the Chicago Association of Realtors. That is, unless that larger tax reform package includes adjustments to the general tax rate that offset this amount.)

https://onenewsnow.com/politics-govt/2017/08/09/gop-governor-welcomes-barack-obama-day
(FROM THE ARTICLE: An Illinois-based pro-family activist says he’s appalled that the state’s Republican governor signed legislation designating “Barack Obama Day.”  Gov. Bruce Rauner made it official, signing Senate Bill 55 which means beginning in 2018 Illinois will recognize August 4 as “Barack Obama Day.” Rauner says it won’t be a formal state holiday with paid time off but it will be a day of acknowledgment and celebration. Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth says Rauner is the perfect example of a “Rhino Republican.” “A Republican governor heaping praise on the most immoral promoting president in American history, Barack Obama,” LaBarbera complains, “who ushered in homosexual so-called marriage, who mocked the authority of the Bible, who promoted abortion, who loves Planned Parenthood. With Republicans like that, who needs Democrats?” The argument from liberals that there is a similar holiday honoring President Ronald Reagan is a ridiculous comparison, he also insists. “To compare the two is an insult to Ronald Reagan,” LaBarbera insists. “Ronald Reagan was one of the greatest presidents we ever had.” Reagan led the West in a fight to crush Communism, LaBarbera recalls, while Obama “sucked up” to Cuba’s dictators. — When Government Defames  No judicial remedy exists if a federal official slanders you – AZIZ HUQ  (DIERSEN: I should write a book about Democrat plant, Libertarian plant, Green plant, and RINO activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who have slandered me. They feel free to do that because I have always had a policy of forgiving those who trespass me.  But I am reconsidering that policy.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/10/opinion/government-defamation-white-house-slander.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Imagine that a senior government official takes to Twitter, makes a call to a national news outlet or goes on national television to disparage you. Imagine that he tells lies about you to a national audience, lies harmful to your professional or personal future. What could you do to remedy the situation? You might seek a retraction. Perhaps you would go to colleagues and friends to privately plead your side of the case. Or if you were lucky enough to have a national platform of your own, maybe you would try to correct the defamatory statement in public. But one thing you couldn’t do is sue. No judicial remedy exists when a federal official defames someone. This gap in the law isn’t a result of a conscious decision by Congress or federal judges to protect the government’s ability to defame you. It was created inadvertently. In an age when the political lie is being weaponized to increasing effect, it’s an oversight Congress should redress.)

http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Rauner-Names-New-Lead-for-DC-Team-438623933.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner announced Friday he’s chosen Sam Pfister to lead his Washington DC team. Pfister replaces Kathy Lydon, who had served Illinois in DC for years dating back to Sen. Charles Percy. Lydon quit three weeks ago as the governor overhauled his staff and more than two dozen of his inner circle were either fired or quit in protest. Pfister will be paid $75,000. Pfister’ most event job is four years as the associate director of state outreach for the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. The think tank was founded by Richard Fink, who heads the Koch Industries lobbying group in Washington, DC. Charles Koch is also a board member of the Center. The Wall Street Journal has called the Mercatus Center “the most important think tank you’ve never head of.” The Koch brothers have given more than 100 million to conservative and libertarian policy and advocacy groups. Rauner has also hired a deputy director of communications Beth Tomev. She started earlier this week, but no announcement was made. She will be paid $117,000. Tomev has been a public affairs consultant, worked at Fox News Chicago, as Walter Jacobson’s producer, and taught communications and journalism classes at Columbia College and Loyola University. “I did not know what I was getting into when I took Tomev’s class,” according to a review of Tomev on Rate My Professor. “Her lectures are nonsensical, she takes up class time with irrelevant stories, grades unreasonably tough without providing clear expectations for assignments, and has purposely ambiguous exam questions that can tank your grade. All for an intro course. Would not recommend to anyone.”)

— Trump set to embark on 1st vacation since inauguration – AP  (DIERSEN: Vacations are expensive. Your GOPUSA Illinois Editor and his wife are not planning any kind of vacation. My $50,856/year pension is only 41% of the $122,991 that I earned in 1997 in today’s dollars. I have at least $72,135 less each year or $6,011 less each month or $1,387 less each week or $198 less each day to spend on vacations because my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old. I went on vacations in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, and 1977.  My wife and I went on many vacations, typically four each year, 1978-1992 in connection with her business trips to luxury resorts all across America. I had worked for GAO for almost 9 years. Before that, I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $79,563-$90,173. I had become a licensed CPA in 1981.  I had passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981. I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979.  I had earned a master degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980 and I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976.)

CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN NEWS
— WHY THE PRIVATE SECTOR DOES A BETTER JOB THAN THE GOVERNMENT – Kent Kellar  (DIERSEN: At least since the 1960s, the federal government’s top priority has been to hire, to retain, and to promote Democrats, and especially Democrats who are minority, female, and/or younger. GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job. IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job. The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

I commuted to classes at UIC from my parents’ home in Crete 1966-1968. I came home weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969 to work at the Park Forest Post Office. I worked full-time at the Park Forest Post Office during the summer of 1969 like I had done the summers of 1967 and 1968.  My Democrat Post Office superiors succeeded in forcing me to resign at end of the summer of 1969. WALL STREET JOURNAL
— HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Excess At the Top  The CEO Pay Machine – Philip Delves Broughton  (DIERSEN: Trump’s lousy $400,000 salary is only 3.25 times what my $122,991 GS-13 Step 10 pay is in today’s dollars.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-better-way-to-reward-ceos-1501542185
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In 1978 the average chief executive at a large company was paid 26 times more than the average worker. By 2014, depending on your method of calculation, he was paid 300 to 700 times more. It has become standard for a CEO to make more than $10 million a year, and a few make more than $100 million. These aren’t founders or major shareholders but hired guns, managers playing with house money. It is not like this everywhere. In the U.K., the fifth largest economy in the world, the pay ratio of CEO to average worker is 84 to 1. In Japan, the third largest, it’s 16 to 1.)

MONEY MAGAZINE
— Millennials want their dream home now – not in 20 years – Angus Raine  (DIERSEN: Where are you on the “property ladder?” My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always been are filled with envy.  They are furious a) that I bought a new town home in University Park when I was 24 in 1972, that I bought a studio condo in downtown Chicago when I was 25, and that I bought a one bedroom condo in downtown Chicago when I was 27 and b) that my wife and I bought 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton when I was 29 and that we had 915 Cove Court built in Wheaton when I was 35.)
http://moneymag.com.au/millennials-dream-home/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When I bought my first home in the late 1980s, I didn’t care that it was ramshackle, I just wanted to get my foot on the property ladder. Now you hardly ever hear the term ‘property ladder’, and millennials want their dream family home now – not in 20 years. But that’s how long it took me to progress through a series of houses until I bought my current family home. I’m calling for a cultural shift: we need to return to viewing property ownership as a long-term, gradual strategy. So, if you’re a first-home buyer, just how do you climb the property ladder? First, you might need to rethink your expectations of a first home. Buying in the best location you can afford is more important than getting the perfect home immediately. And while many people think that the next logical step is to buy a bigger house, you are better off moving to progressively better locations. That will build value faster than graduating to bigger homes in the same suburb and will take you to the next rung on your journey up the property ladder.)

To transfer, they required me to take an $18,847 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars, from $90,173 (GS-12 Step 5) down to $71,326 (GS-9 Step 10). For my first 6 years with GAO and for my last 9 years, they succeeded in keeping me off audits of IRS. They did not promote me to GA-13 Step 1, $94,610 in today’s dollars, until 1986 and they never promoted me beyond that. Residents of District 3, which includes parts of Downers Grove, Westmont, Burr Ridge, Hinsdale, Woodridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien and Willowbrook, can apply to at Dupageco.org/countyboard/dist3map. The newly appointed board member will serve the remainder of Curran’s term, which expires Nov. 30, 2018. County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said in a news release Saturday that he will fill Curran’s vacancy until an appointment is made. “While we will truly miss his work and his dedication to DuPage County, we are happy to see him moving on to bigger challenges,” Cronin said. “I’m confident Springfield is gaining an asset who will fight to protect residents of Illinois.” Anyone seeking appointment to the county board should email Cronin at Dan.Cronin@dupageco.org with a resume and letter, not exceeding 300 words, outlining their interest.)

LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR
— DREAM Act divisive, elitist – RUBEN NAVARRETTE JR. (DIERSEN: From what I see, to curry favor with Democrats, employers want to gloat that they hire illegals, and that to make way for them, they do not hire citizens of America and that they get rid of citizens of America.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: What bothered her was the insistence on going to college. What about those kids who go to vocational school or go straight to work? They didn’t deserve legal status? Someone in Washington was playing God again, deciding who stayed and who went according to a narrow definition of positive behavior. Why stop at attending college? Why not demand that beneficiaries of the DREAM Act not accept any public assistance, or abstain from smoking, or never fall into debt or not be unemployed for more than six months at any point in their lives? The new bill from Graham and Durbin is a slight improvement because it covers those who “work lawfully for at least three years.” But it also has a new requirement that recipients speak English and know U.S. history. Great idea. But shouldn’t we start by demanding those things from native-born U.S. citizens? These moral judgments are all subjective and awfully condescending. They’re all about what Graham, Durbin, and the other senators who will eventually support their bill require to make them feel comfortable with overlooking the fact that these young people are in the country illegally. Welcome to this week’s episode of the game show: “Good Immigrant, Bad Immigrant.” If Graham and Durbin want to make themselves useful in the immigration debate, they should stop treating immigrants like they’re some kind of social science experiment. Instead, they should draft a bill that would eventually legalize most of the 11 million people who are in the country illegally — whether or not they went to college or speak English. It’s no wonder that so many DREAMers experience a version of “survivor’s guilt” because they were tossed a life preserver while their parents and siblings are left to drown. All this talk about how the Trump administration is dividing families. You know what really divides families? The DREAM Act.)
