http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/nov/23/republican-governors-victories-come-with-burdens-t/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Once thought a sure way to block illegals, the federal web-based E-Verify system was supposed to allow “businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.” It doesn’t really. “We’ve got to talk about E-Verify,” Mr. Hutchinson said. “People come here for jobs. Reducing the power of that magnet reduces the cost of securing the border.” E-Verify now is riddled with holes. Even the official Department of Homeland Security website bears this proviso: “E-Verify does not provide your employer with any immigration, citizenship status or document information about you.” “A more effective system is more expensive,” Mr. Hutchinson said. “You have to check more databases to authenticate the identity of the person who presents a card. A truly comprehensive E-Verify burdens small businesses financially, but if you exempt businesses that employ fewer than 50 people, you leave the door open to fraud.”)

— The Post-Familial Election  How the thinning out of families created fertile ground for Trump. – Ross Douthat  (DIERSEN: How is your family tree doing?  How many children did you and your spouse have, did your parents have, and did your grandparents have?  My wife and I gave up trying to have children, my parents had two children, my grandparents on my father’s side had two children and my grandparents on my mother’s side had four children.  My brother and my father’s sister never married and had no children.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/06/opinion/sunday/the-post-familial-election.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: So instead of widening, my family tree tapered, its branches thinned. And it may thin again, since so far the seven cousins in my generation have only three children. All of them are mine. This is a very normal Western family history. Everywhere across the developed world, families have grown more attenuated: fewer and later marriages, fewer and later-born children, fewer brothers and sisters and cousins, more people living for longer and longer stretches on their own. It’s a new model of social life, a “post-familial” revolution that’s unique to late modernity. For a while, conservatives have worried that this revolution is a boon to liberalism, to centralization and bureaucratic control — because as families thin people are more likely to look to politics for community and government for protection. This idea is borne out in voting patterns, where marriage and kids tend to predict Republican affiliation, and the single and divorced are often reliable Democratic partisans. The Obama White House’s “Life of Julia” ad campaign in 2012 — featuring a woman whose every choice was subsidized by the government from cradle to grave, with a lone child but no larger family or community in sight — seemed to many conservatives like a perfect confirmation of our fears: Here was liberalism explicitly pitching the state as a substitute for kith and kin. But while we worried about the liberal vision, our own ideological side was adapting to the family’s attenuation in darker ways — speaking not to singletons or single mothers, but to powerful post-familial anxieties among the middle-aged and old.)

http://www.reviewjournal.com/the-real-national-embarrassment
(FROM THE ARTICLE: All this suggests an obvious immigration agenda.  First, we need to reduce illegal immigrants, both because illegality is bad in its own right and because the constant inflow frustrates assimilation. To further discourage illegal immigration, we should make E-Verify — a system for employers to check the immigration status of job applicants — mandatory for most businesses. We also need to legalize the vast majority of undocumented workers who have been here for years and don’t have a criminal record. Finally, we need to reform legal immigration so that it favors the entry of high-skilled workers, who aid the economy and assimilate more easily.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Baby Boomers Blew It  We Baby Boomers did fail when planning for our financial future, but part of the problem is that our future is being prolonged. We are living longer and therefore outliving our resources. In 1900, the average lifespan was 47 years. Today, AARP reports that a 65-year old is expected to be able to blow out their birthday candles at 85 years of age. Wow, get out and enjoy your retirement. This is great news unless you happen to be an average American, between the age of 55 and 64, who has only accrued $104,000 in retirement savings, according to the June 2015 Government Accountability Office. To sum this up, a longer life span means that 47 percent of the oldest Baby Boomers are at risk of not having enough money for retirement, as reported by Employee Benefit Research Institute. Options are scary. Keep working? Live with the kids? Your choices get limited. We Baby Boomers have not set a great example for the Gen Z’ers who are just getting out of school, entering the workforce and trying to design their own financial futures.)

— Qualified for comptroller – Ryan Mahoney, Belleville  (DIERSEN: Of course, obviously, needless-to-say, and without question, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I have never been qualified to do anything.  In my defense, I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels (currently $77,899-$88,286) and for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels (currently $92,632-$120,427). I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981. I became a licensed CPA in 1981, a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, a Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and a Forensic Accountant in 1997.  I earned a bachelor’s degree in management in 1970, an MBA in 1976, a master’s degree in accounting in 1980, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading in 1997.  I served on the Executive Committee of the Association of Government Accountants Chicago Chapter 1983-1996.)

(FROM THE LETTER: In the midst of the national campaign, we must not forget the elections closer to home that impact us. One such office is that of the state comptroller. This is a position of great importance given the mismanagement and financial state we are in. The comptroller is in essence the state’s head accountant, and neither of the major parties candidates running have any accounting experience. In fact, the state of Illinois has never had an accountant elected to this office. This year, that could change. The most qualified candidate is Libertarian Claire Ball. She has real world experience with both a bachelors and masters degree in accounting, and has received her CPA. Claire Ball has presented a comprehensive plan for accountability and transparency for the office. Claire Ball has also called attention to the payments of lobbyists ahead of social services that close by the day. What Claire Ball won’t be, is beholden to a party instead of the people. She has neither Rauner or Madigan to answer to. Claire Ball can perform arithmetic that the incumbent recently had difficulty with. Claire Ball will also not be using the office as a stepping stone as have the two major parties done in the past. This Nov. 8, vote for the most qualified and capable candidate. The state of Illinois’ finances can not continue under the tenure of the parties who have so badly damaged it. Vote for Libertarian Claire Ball.)

http://www.starcourier.com/news/20161101/sen-weaver-named-to-advisory-council-on-at-risk-students
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) has been appointed to the Illinois General Assembly’s Advisory Council on At Risk Students, a panel charged with finding ways to improve educational opportunities and access for disadvantaged students. “A student’s education lays the foundation for the future success in life, which is why it’s so important that we make sure all of our students have the best possible access to education,” said Senator Weaver. “This council will allow us to continually work to find new ways to help our most at-risk students succeed.” The Advisory Council on At Risk Students is made up of 20 members, most members are education and human service professionals. The Republican leader in the Senate was allowed to select one person to serve on the council and she selected Senator Weaver. The council will file an annual report with the General Assembly to recommend changes to be implemented. Sen. Weaver, whose district includes the Kewanee area, has long worked as an advocate for students and disadvantaged children, as a past president of the Youth Farm in Peoria where he served on the board for 28 years. He was involved in merging Youth Farm with the Childrens Home, one of Illinois’ premier providers for at risk children. “We have some serious challenges to face with our educational system, but I’m truly excited at the opportunity to work toward ensuring a quality education for every student,” said Weaver.)

— University of Texas student government wants to ‘disband’ Young Conservatives for ‘hate-filled’ bake sale  (DIERSEN: Under the Democrats and under the RINOs, ever-increasingly, you are viciously demonized, denigrated, and condemned if you do not promote Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion, that is, if you do not promote discrimination against Whites and against men.)
http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/29750/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Administration: Sorry, it’s ‘protected speech’  The University of Texas-Austin has pledged to ignore demands from student officials to “disband” a conservative student group following its satirical “affirmative action bake sale” last week. Several Student Government (SG) representatives filed a resolution against Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) that also called for the administration to punish and even expel students who commit “future incidents of bias.” Without referring to the resolution, YCT sent a legal threat letter to UT President Gregory Fenves. It said the group would sue UT if it took “punitive action” against YCT for its speech, citing a federal law that allows lawsuits against public officials for retaliating against or chilling protected speech. A university spokesman told The College Fix in an email Tuesday night that won’t happen, because UT “does not and will not take action against an organization for protected speech.” ‘More of a movement’ than actual legislation  At an SG assembly meeting Tuesday night, shortly after the university said it wouldn’t punish YCT, representatives nonetheless voted to “fast track” the resolution, known as AR-15, The Daily Texan reported. Debate was extended at the unusually lengthy meeting, according to the Daily. President Kevin Helgren said YCT’s bake sale was “hate-filled” but emphasized that the university could choose to ignore an approved resolution. Co-author and co-sponsor Priya Suri said the resolution was “more of a movement and a statement that we stand in solidarity with people of color and people who were emotionally affected” by the bake sale. The outcry against YCT’s bake sale started with a student petition that alleged the cheeky demonstration against racial preferences – which was partly led by a black student – was a “hate crime.” It had 860 signatures as of Tuesday night. The new petition was followed by the SG resolution, which has seven sponsors and 12 authors. Two authors work in the Multicultural Engagement Center, though neither is listed as full-time staff – Cameron Maxwell, director of external relations for African American Affairs, and Alejandrina Guzman, director of Latino Leadership Summit for Latino Community Affairs. It’s not the first petition to try to kill YCT at UT for a political demonstration – three years ago, more than 5,000 people signed a similar petition. The resolution is dripping with contempt for what it characterizes as UT’s hands-off approach to offensive campus speech. It cites the bake sale; a Feb. 20 incident where white UT students allegedly threw bottles and yelled a racial slur at a black student; Phi Gamma Delta’s 2015 “border patrol” party, which was investigated by the dean of students; and the cause of the prior petition, YCT’s planned “Catch an Illegal Immigrant” game (canceled due to “safety concerns“), among other incidents. The resolution says UT took “no punitive action” against “identifiable university-associated perpetrators” in most of the incidents. It suggests that UT should punish students when their actions provoke “large-scale protests and outrage.”)

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161026/news/161028967/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Responding to a court order, Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41 has released emails from leaders of its teachers union that show they were working last spring to create a special committee to vet school board candidates about a year before the April 2017 election. A DuPage County judge ruled that the emails were public records and ordered the district to turn over the messages to Jeff Cooper, a former school board candidate who filed a lawsuit in June accusing the district of violating state public records laws. Cooper sued after the district denied his request for the emails under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. . .The judge also ordered the district to pay Cooper’s attorney $5,600 in fees and $362.84 in other costs by Nov. 22. The district expects to spend “about the same amount” in attorney fees and costs as it’s paying Cooper’s lawyer. Cooper said Wednesday the emails “should have never been withheld in the first place.”  He has not decided whether he will make another bid at a seat on the board in April.)

— Democrats Ask Judge To Sanction Republicans Over Trump  The RNC said the filing was completely meritless. – Reuters
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/democrats-ask-judge-to-sanction-republicans-over-trump_us_58115d36e4b0990edc2f2c74
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic National Committee on Wednesday asked a U.S. judge to hold the Republican National Committee in contempt of court over allegations that Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to intimidate minority voters. The DNC accused Republicans in a court filing of violating a longstanding consent decree, which restricts Republicans’ ability to question voters at the polls and prevent those people from casting a ballot. During the presidential campaign, Republican nominee Trump has asked followers to “watch” for fraud in the Nov. 8 presidential election in certain areas where minority voters reside, even though no evidence of fraud exists, the filing said. Some of Trump’s followers have pledged to do just that, the filing said. The RNC has supported Trump’s “ballot security endeavors,” Democrats said in the court filing. The RNC said the filing was completely meritless. “The RNC strictly abides by the consent decree and does not take part directly or indirectly in any efforts to prevent or remedy vote fraud.  Nor do we coordinate with the Trump campaign or any other campaign or party organization in any efforts they may make in this area,” a RNC spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “The RNC remains focused on getting out the vote.” Representatives for the Trump campaign could not immediately be reached for comment. The DNC asked a New Jersey federal judge to issue an injunction preventing the RNC from spending money on voter integrity efforts, and to instruct its field offices that no employee shall participate in any ballot security measures.)

https://www.adn.com/nation-world/2016/10/26/clubs-affirmative-action-bake-sale-at-university-of-texas-draws-hundreds-of-angry-students/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The bake sale, which club members characterized as a protest against the “institutionalized racism” of affirmative action programs at colleges and universities, soon attracted a crowd of hundreds who lobbed criticism at the conservative students. “Check your privilege!” they yelled as the club’s remaining members volleyed questions from the crowd. The crowd began to disperse just after 2 p.m. when the remaining members of the group left to chants of “racists go home!” The UT-Austin student newspaper The Daily Texan broadcast live from the event. “Our protest was designed to highlight the insanity of assigning our lives value based on our race and ethnicity, rather than our talents, work ethic and intelligence,” said club chairman Vidal Castaneda. “It is insane that institutional racism, such as affirmative action, continues to allow for universities to judge me by the color of my skin rather than my actions.” The same club came under fire in 2013 for holding a nearly identical bake sale — charging different races different prices for brownies. Gregory J. Vincent, UT-Austin’s vice president for diversity and community engagement, called that bake sale “deplorable.” Vincent again spoke for the university on Wednesday, calling the latest bake sale “inflammatory and demeaning.” “Yet focusing our attention on the provocative nature of the YCT’s actions ignores a much more important issue: They create an environment of exclusion and disrespect among our students, faculty and staff,” he said. Vincent acknowledged that the school’s West Mall, where the bake sale was held, is an area where protests often take place and where free speech and the expression of diverse opinions on myriad issues is encouraged. But, while it was “their right” to hold the bake sale, he questioned whether the group’s methods furthered the dialogue about race and privilege or simply sought to divide the campus along racial lines.)

White  (DIERSEN: All during the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO 1980-1997, a) the agency was under hiring and/or promotion freezes, b) the agency suffered budget cuts in either relative or absolute terms, and c) the agency shrank from more than 6,000 employees in 1980 to less than 3,000 employees in 1997.)
http://time.com/money/4546249/goldman-sachs-firing/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Goldman Sachs has laid off 443 people this year, but the investment bank has kept its job cuts under the radar by letting people go by the dozens rather than the hundreds, which keeps it from having to notify regulators of “mass layoffs.”  Goldman Sachs has disclosed to state regulators seven different instances of job cuts this year, Bloomberg reports. New York state law requires that companies file a notice with the state when they cut jobs in many circumstances, and if those job cuts total 250 or more, they have to notify the state of “mass layoffs.” Although Goldman Sachs has shed the highest number of employees this year since 2008, when it laid off 900 during an economically punishing year, 2016’s reductions in head count have gone largely unnoticed. When banks, especially high-profile ones like Goldman Sachs, downsize the number of people they employ, it can send a signal to investors and to the market about how they’re doing and if they’re struggling. Keeping job cuts low-key avoids the negative connotation a big layoff suggests, Jeanne Branthover, a partner at DHR International, an executive search firm, told Bloomberg. “This is more, ‘We’re having layoffs and we don’t want to explain it,’” she said. Of course, there are strategic business reasons to cut jobs a few at a time: If business in a particular area rebounds quickly, it is easier for a company to add back a smaller number of employees than to try and re-staff a gutted department.)

— Would you be unhappy with $780,000 a year? – CLAIRE BUSHEY  (DIERSEN: How much do/did you earn? The most that I ever earned in today’s dollars was a lousy $120,427 a year.  Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes use that to demonize me, to denigrate me, and to condemn me as being a failed loser and even worse things.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20161013/NEWS04/161019898/would-you-be-unhappy-with-780000-a-year
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The average total compensation for partners at Chicago law firms increased 13 percent in the last two years to $780,000, according to a new study. The growth rate eclipsed New York, where partners in the country’s largest legal market averaged $1.7 million annually, but compensation only went up 5 percent from 2014. By contrast, partners in San Francisco saw their comp shoot up 51 percent to $997,000, according to the report from New York-based legal recruiters Major Lindsey & Africa. The survey sample included more than 2,100 partners from across the country, with 244 from Chicago. The survey only went to lawyers practicing at the country’s largest firms; approximately 8,600 of Cook County’s more than 45,000 lawyers work at such operations. The city’s partners had the 10th highest average compensation among the 14 legal markets ranked by the headhunting firm. Growth in compensation has slowed since the last time the firm conducted the survey: Between 2012 and 2014, comp for the city’s senior lawyers grew nearly 20 percent from $575,000. Chicago’s lower compensation average may stem from the city’s historic practice of making lawyers partner at a younger age, said Jeffrey Lowe, the Washington D.C.-based author of the study. More of the partners taking the survey in Chicago are likely billing at the same rates as associates elsewhere in the country. Chicago’s billing rates, too, are a comparative bargain compared to the rest of the country. Partners in Chicago on average billed at $687 per hour. Only Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Miami and “other” markets had lower rates. Just over a quarter of Chicago’s partners rated themselves as either “not at all” or “not very” satisfied with their compensation.)

http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2016/10/12/group-home-for-young-mothers-proposed-for-former-wheaton-inn/a8390an/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A group home for new and expectant single mothers is being proposed for the former Wheaton Inn building at 301 W. Roosevelt Road in Wheaton. The Clarendon Hills-based company Love From Above Inc. has a contract to purchase the building from its current owner, PCM Properties LLC, a subsidiary of Invesco PowerShares. The group is set to close on the property in December. Love From Above plans to offer a two-year transitional housing program for women who find themselves in “crisis pregnancies,” said Yvonne Florczak-Seeman, president and founder of Love From Above. A culinary program and fashion design program also will be offered, she said. “We’ll also have a full-blown child care program, where their children will stay within the building,” Florczak-Seeman said. “Babies will be taken care of by volunteers while the moms go to school. We’ll have a full-time licensed teacher on the premises as well who will also work with them on their homework and give classes on finances and mothering classes.” The program would be offered to women 18 to 26 years old, she said, and would serve both expectant mothers and single mothers. The facility would serve up to 12 women. This would be the company’s first facility, which will be called The Butterfly Garden…A Place for Healing and Transformation. Florczak-Seeman, who is 52, experienced an unplanned pregnancy herself when she was 16. “Unfortunately, the choice for me was made to have an abortion,” she said. “I didn’t have any other options. That abortion brought forth some very serious emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual aftermath.” Florczak-Seeman said she wants those in the program to understand “pregnancy is not a terminal disease.” “Pregnancy is not something that will kill them,” she said. “Pregnancy is something that lasts nine months. During that time, they can still continue their education. They can still do what they need to do. They can still have these children and be great mothers, and be successful young ladies in school.”)

http://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511018371-former-cod-board-member-savage-asks-federal-government-to-shut-down-dupage-policy-journal
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The filing questions the independence of the DuPage Policy Journal — alleging it is run by a political organization — and contends it should not be entitled to press exemption from campaign finance laws. Savage’s filing alleges the DuPage Policy Journal is not an independent newspaper, but rather is controlled by the Liberty Principles PAC through Dan Proft. Proft is a businessman, a radio talk-show host and a principal of Local Government Information Services, which owns the DuPage Policy Journal. Proft denied allegations made in the FEC filing and said the newspaper is owned by a private company. “It’s a legitimate newspaper just like any other newspaper,” Proft told the Associated Press. “I’ll put the stories we do on politics and policy up against any other newspaper in the state.” Rich Miller, publisher of the Capital Fax political blog and newsletter, agreed in a post that the problem with the filing is that the newspaper is owned by a private company. “Look, I do not want the federal government defining what is and is not a legit media company,” Miller wrote. “Progress Illinois does good work, but it gets most of its money from SEIU. I don’t know who funds Illinois Review, but I’m fine with them, too. Stay the heck away.” The FEC has 15 days to get a response from those accused in the complaint. It will then make a decision on whether to launch a full investigation.)

Adverse actions that my Democrat IRS superiors took against me include not promoting me beyond GS-12, disallowing my education deductions, and disallowing my partial day per diem claims  Adverse actions that my Democrat Post Office superiors took against me include forcing me resign in 1969 and disallowing my sick leave requests.)
http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/09/20/tronc-pulls-pioneer-press-reporter-off-evanston-beat/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A veteran reporter for the Evanston Review is being shipped out to the west suburbs in retaliation for withholding his byline from a story, according to the Chicago News Guild. Bob Seidenberg, an award-winning writer who has covered the north suburb for nearly 30 years, was reassigned to Franklin Park and other west suburbs about a week after he removed his name from a story that he said had been rewritten inaccurately by an editor. The Evanston Review long has been the crown jewel of Pioneer Press, the suburban newspaper chain recently acquired by Tribune Publishing, the company now known as tronc. Pioneer reporters, who are represented by the Chicago News Guild, have a contractual right to withhold their names from their work. “Seidenberg’s pending removal is just the latest in a series of warnings, threats and accusations by [Pioneer editor John] Puterbaugh and other managers against Pioneer Press reporters on almost a weekly basis since Tribune (now tronc) took over the 32-newspaper chain last year,” a story posted on the union’s website reported Tuesday. According to the union, Seidenberg was told that he was being reassigned “for business reasons” despite arguing that “his experience, his resources and his understanding of Evanston would benefit the Tribune if he stayed in Evanston.” “We believe this was a retaliation for withholding his byline,” Craig Rosenbaum, executive director of the Chicago News Guild, was quoted as saying. “Bob is being punished for exercising a contractual right. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he asked for his byline to be held just before this. Removing Bob from Evanston will be a loss to Evanston. They’re depriving the community of a reporter with years of experience who has a wealth of sources and contacts.” Dana Meyer, a spokesperson for the Chicago Tribune, released a statement denying any retaliation. “The company respects the collective agreement with Pioneer Press and has worked within the terms and conditions of that agreement,” the statement said. “There have been incidents where a reporter has asked to have their name removed and we consistently accommodate those requests. The agreement specifically identifies rules for transferring an employee and we adhere to these rules. This was not retaliation. We simply had a need for a veteran Pioneer reporter on a strong digital beat that had gone vacant. Evanston is a vital town for us and will continue to be very well covered.”)

https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/why-socialism-is-still-popular/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I always used to think that socialism’s appeal mainly came from envy, which was innate to human character. There’s a classic book titled Envy, by Helmut Schoeck, that explains the extraordinary progress of Western civilization as coming from our religions, Christianity and Judaism before it. It notes that two of the Ten Commandments strongly condemned envy—that subordinating it was vital for a society to progress. But envy is still innate. Remember the old story of a poor Russian peasant, whose neighbor finally owns a cow. The peasant becomes consumed with envy and cries out to God for relief. When God answers him to make a wish come true, he prays, “God, make my neighbor’s cow sicken and die.” New knowledge of human nature delves much deeper, however.)

GAO (
https://gopillinois.com/diersen-v-gao-fifth-amended-complaint/)  The Democrats who ran GAO during the 1990s used Gingrich’s dramatic budget cuts to get rid of GAO’s employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/president-trump-federal-employees_us_57e2dee9e4b08d73b82f2fd7
(FROM THE ARTICLE: This week, The New Yorker published a report hypothesizing what President Donald Trump’s first term in office might look like. Evan Osnos interviewed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who’s been advising the candidate on policy matters, about what to expect if Trump actually takes the White House. Gingrich told Osnos that he’s encouraged Trump to start a war over job security for federal employees. Conservatives have long bemoaned how difficult it can be to fire government workers. According to The New Yorker, Gingrich seems convinced that attacking job protections for civil servants would be a worthwhile opening battle, both as policy and as politics. Per Osnos: Gingrich told me that he is urging Trump to give priority to an obscure but contentious conservative issue—ending lifetime tenure for federal employees. This would also galvanize Republicans and help mend rifts in the Party after a bitter election. “Getting permission to fire corrupt, incompetent, and dishonest workers—that’s the absolute showdown,” Gingrich said. He assumes that federal employees’ unions would resist, thus producing, in his words, an “ongoing war” similar to the conflict that engulfed Madison, Wisconsin, in 2011, when Governor Scott Walker moved to limit public-sector employees’ collective-bargaining rights. Gingrich predicted that federal employee unions would become “unglued” in such a war. For a reality TV celebrity whose fame grew out of firing people, this would seem like a logical fight to pick after settling into the West Wing. Trump, however, doesn’t appear to have discussed this particular issue on the trail, and his official website makes no reference to it. A campaign spokesperson didn’t respond to an email asking if Trump would seek to roll back job protections for federal employees. A representative for Gingrich didn’t respond to an interview request on the subject, either. Job security is one of the main benefits to a federal job, and Gingrich is correct that federal employee unions would fight bitterly to maintain it. But contrary to what Gingrich suggests, it is possible to fire federal employees when they misbehave or don’t do their jobs. It just isn’t as easy as firing a private-sector worker. The law gives federal workers certain protections, including due process when the boss wants to can them and the chance to turn around their work if they’re underperforming. They’re given those rights, in part, to protect against politically motivated firings. Typically, a fraction of a percent of the federal workforce gets fired each year. Tony Reardon, the president of the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents 150,000 federal workers across 30 agencies, noted in an email to HuffPost that federal employees can be fired for cause. That they can’t, he said, “is a false statement repeated to gain easy political points.” NTEU endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, as did the American Federation of Government Employees, the other large federal employee union. “While it is not clear that Congressman Gingrich and Mr. Trump are trying to find a way to fire those they simply don’t like, it would behoove them to become educated on the basics of civil service law,” Reardon said. “Federal employees give much to this country and deserve at least candidates and advisors who understand a little bit about how their employment works.”)

http://federalnewsradio.com/federal-drive/2016/08/surprise-people-still-hate-the-government/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you are just back — whether from an exotic vacation or an economical stay at home — welcome. You haven’t missed much. It won’t take long to bring you up to speed. So here it goes: Congress, which was gone when you left, is still away on one of its many extended 2016 breaks. Appropriations bills (again) have not been passed, so we will have the whole CR (continuing resolution) thing to deal with to avoid a government shutdown just before the election. Despite its dismal track record, experts predict that 90 percent of all incumbents — House, Senate, Democrats or Republicans — will be reelected, as per usual. If you are a white collar fed, a 1.6 percent pay raise is still on track. Congress could raise or lower it, but they probably won’t. With two months to go in the cost-of-living adjustment countdown, federal-military-Social Security retirees are looking at a very, very small COLA in January. The exact amount won’t be announced until mid-October. As of today, it stands at 0.23 percent. No new word on buyouts or early retirement offers. After four years in the works, the phased retirement program is up and running, in some places. So far, fewer than 100 feds have applied for the part-time mentoring program. Many workers say it’s not from lack of interest, but that their agencies aren’t offering it. Something else, what was it? Oh yes, the American public still hates you. Or at least has the most negative feelings toward the government of any other organization or profession. You rank even lower than lawyers and the media.)

– Howard Schweitzer  (DIERSEN: Even though I am a non-veteran White male Republican who complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination: a) it took almost 3 years for my Democrat Post Office superiors to get rid of me; b) it took almost 9 years for my Democrat IRS superiors to get rid of me; and c) it took almost 18 years for my Democrat GAO superiors to get rid of me, even though I became an active member in a class action lawsuit against the agency after I was there 9 years.)
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/08/7-reasons-why-trump-would-hate-being-president-214192
(FROM THE ARTICLE: 1. You’re (Never) Fired. Presumably Trump thinks he can run the government like he ran things on “The Apprentice” – telling people that he deems not up to snuff that they’re fired. That may be how his campaign works with its revolving door of staffers and campaign managers. But the federal bureaucracy isn’t the Trump Organization. In order for his agencies to carry out his agenda, he’ll need the help of thousands of civil servants to do the work–people protected by federal employee union rules and regulations that are not accountable to any administration. Presidential historians have written time and again about how unprepared incoming presidents are to manage the bureaucracy, and Trump will be no different—just far more frustrated than most. Trump simply can’t fire any bureaucrat on the spot even if they perform incompetently. There’s a whole process in place that governs the removal of civil-service employees, and most linger on long after a complaint has been filed. Equally difficult will be hiring people. All presidential appointees need to meet federal ethics requirements, FBI background checks, and other security clearance guidelines. That process can take months, even years – which would be infuriating for an impatient manager like Trump. His high-level appointees – such as his Secretary of State or Treasury – require confirmation from the U.S. Senate, a body which may not be disposed to do President Trump many favors.)

— WHEATON WOMAN NAMED CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR  (DIERSEN: I want to again thank Jim Flickinger for convincing Randy Hultgren and Peter Roskam to endorse me when I first ran for DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman in 2000.)
http://abc7chicago.com/health/wheaton-woman-named-caregiver-of-the-year/1486823/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Wheaton woman is chosen among thousands as Brightstar Care’s Caregiver of the Year in the Midwest region. Elsa Salguero was surprised today by the home care agency and the family she works with. The family who nominated her says Salguero’s devotion to her patients is unequaled. “My ultimate goal every time I encounter my patients and clients is to always leave them better than what they are when you first encounter them. Walk out of the room knowing that you’ve done everything that you possibly could to leave them feeling loved and important,” she said.  Salguero was awarded a trophy, a cake and a sash.)

— Naperville Sun Q&A: Abdul-Jabbar urges Americans to approach issues using facts, not emotions – David Sharos  (DIERSEN: What demographic facts about you would Abdul-Jabbar use to form his opinion of you?  From what I see, Abdul-Jabbar would use the following demographic facts about me to form an extremely negative opinion about me: baptized in 1948, raised, and confirmed in 1962 as a Missouri Synod Lutheran; conservative; Republican; American; White; male; old (67); non-poor; gun owner; Wheaton resident since 1978; Crete resident 1948-1972; 100% German national origin; and ancestors have been in America since the 1840s.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/ct-nvs-abdul-jabbar-q-and-a-st-0828-20160826-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Q: Why do you think race has become such a source of conflict in this country that hasn’t been seen since Martin Luther King and the 1960s? A: It has ramped up, and it has to do with people noticing change — the complexion of America is getting a little bit more brown. It’s not like white people are getting outproduced or soon be a minority, but there’s a lot more people of color, and a lot of these people are in positions of power and influence, and it doesn’t look like it did in the ’40s and ’50s. The greater number of people of color is adding to the racial tension. Q: You’ve had a chance to talk with Donald Trump. What’s your take on him? A: I met him, which he doesn’t even acknowledge. I met him twice. My take on him is that he’s trying to exploit fear for votes. I think that’s reprehensible on his part.)

It would be great if my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) would get together and put their charges against me in writing, b) give me sufficient time to prepare my rebuttal, and c) agree to publicly debate me in the Wheaton Bowl Banquet Hall or in one of their larger “safe place” type venues.  Should I ask my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes to put in writing a) their top ten reasons why they are/were not a federal employee or federal retiree, b) the sources and amounts of all their income for the last ten years, c) their assets, liabilities, and net worth, and d) the top ten reasons why they do not have more income and a higher net worth than they have now?)

— BEYOND DISGUSTING, BEYOND TRAGIC: Video (GAMBLING) Reaches New Heights In Illinois – JENNA DOOLEY
http://peoriapublicradio.org/post/video-gaming-reaches-new-heights-illinois#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Anita Bedell is with the Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems. “There has been embezzlement. There’s been bankruptcy, divorce, and crime – all of the results of video gambling,” Bedell says, “and that will just continue to grow.” Notice that she calls it video gambling instead of video gaming. The distinction is important because her group also monitors the state gaming numbers, but she focuses her attention on how much money players have lost. Bedell’s group tallies the top ten communities by dollars lost by players. Since 2012, they include Springfield, Rockford, Decatur, Bloomington, Champaign, and Peoria. Bedell says her group will continue to educate communities which want to add or expand video gaming.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— Donald Trump Hires First and Deals With Background Questions Later – ALAN RAPPEPORT (DIERSEN: One reason why many millions do not apply for federal jobs is that they know that they cannot pass a background check.  Other reasons include a) pay and benefits are terrible, b) advancement opportunities are terrible, c) they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) they cannot pass an employment examination, e) they cannot pass a physical examination, f) they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or g) they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

— 7 Essential Money Questions Sure to Start a Conversation – RON LIEBER  (DIERSEN: Government is nasty.  Politics is nasty. If someone asked your critics/opponents why do you have the money that you have, what would they say?  My critics/opponents would hint/imply/argue/shout a) that I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and that I have always been privileged, b) that I avoided the draft, c) that I have always been grossly overpaid, d) that I married someone who has always had a good job, e) that we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents, and f) that we do not give lots of money to churches like they do.)

— Facebook Scaling Back Human Intervention of ‘Trending’ Feature  Increased automation of feed a response to allegations of political bias – DEEPA SEETHARAMAN  (DIERSEN: Much of what I do as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor is to identify what news and commentary is trending.  Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents hint/imply/argue/shout that if they had been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, or if someone who they manipulate/dominate had been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, Republicans would not have suffered any losses in Illinois since 2000.  Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents a) have an extremely high opinion of themselves and b) an extremely low opinion of everyone else.)

— The Men Who Fought for the Reich – NICHOLAS STARGARDT  (DIERSEN: What is your national origin? Sooner or later, the more German national origin that you are, your critics/opponents, including if not especially including those who are of German national origin, will foist negative German stereotypes on you.  I should write a book about those of German national origin in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who foist negative German stereotypes on me.  They paint themselves as being “good” Germans and me as being a “bad” German. They do that to curry favor with those who are anti-German.)

USA TODAY
— Drug prices are high. So are the CEOs’ pay. – Matt Krantz  (DIERSEN: Who hints/implies/argues/shouts that you are/were overpaid?  To discredit me, to promote envy against me, and to promote hatred against me, virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes hint/imply/argue/shout a) that the Post Office overpaid me 1966-1969, b) that IRS overpaid me 1971-1980, c) that GAO overpaid me 1980-1997, d) that my Civil Service Retirement System pension since 1997 has been too generous, d) and that my federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidies and other federal benefits have always been too generous.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: People might be shocked at how high drug prices have gotten. But equally lucrative are the compensation packages hauled in by drug company CEOs. CEOs of the 14 biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 that served all of 2015 pulled down median compensation packages valued at $18.5 million in 2015, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. That was 71% greater than the median $10.8 million hauled in by S&P 500 executives in all industries in 2015, according to an analysis by Equilar. “We all know drug prices are high,” says Eleanor Bloxham, CEO of compensation analysis firm The Value Alliance. “Companies award (the CEOs) very generous packages.” Health care CEOs received the highest median pay packages of any of the 10 sectors, according to the Equilar analysis.)
