Bruce Rauner in a bitter GOP primary wants the Illinois Department of Revenue to investigate how Democrat J.B. Pritzker got a tax break by pulling toilets out of his second home, thus lowering the property value. Is this a gift to Rauner? Nope. Ives hasn’t even talked to the governor. “This is my hot-button issue,” Ives told POLITICO. “It sticks in my craw big-time. Who does that? M.K. grew up in South Dakota, the same state I did,” Ives said, referring to Pritzker’s wife. “No one does this. I don’t know where she learned these kinds of shenanigans. But normal people don’t do it. I’m angry. You don’t cheat this way. If the damned Democrats don’t prosecute this, then why would anyone stay in this state just to be treated unfairly by the political ruling class.” Hiding property wealth, says Ives, just shortchanges schools and leaves taxpayers holding the bag. Pritzker has maintained the toilets were pulled as part of a renovation project, but Ives doesn’t buy it. She’s been studying property-tax fairness for years—even talked to Rauner about legislation address how property values are assessed in Illinois. “He never took it up.” The conservative darling’s re-entry into the political fray could help advance Rauner’s case. But Rauner also has his own investigation to worry about. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan called for a criminal probe into Rauner’s handling of the deadly Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at the Quincy veterans’ home. “We are investigating whether any laws were violated in the response to the risks of an outbreak of Legionella at the Quincy veterans’ home, where many people died,” Madigan spokeswoman Maura Possley said in a statement.)

But that’s not all. Paraday’s contract also calls for a car allowance, insurance benefits, retirement annuity and other goodies driving up his annual compensation to $407,000 — the highest of any Illinois school superintendent. And that’s not all. When Paraday retires on October 31st, Calumet City taxpayers will be handing him a big Halloween treat. “Open the Books” and FOX 32 found a clause in Paraday’s contract that allows him to collect cash for unused time off. Since 2005, he’s accumulated 567 days of unused vacation, sick time and personal days. Based on Paraday’s current salary, he’ll cash those days in for more than $762,000.)

Along with the lawsuit filed by a former employer in November 2000, the cases include a personal injury suit she filed in 1994 against the Washington, D.C., regional transit authority. Her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, told the AP that court cases involving her have no bearing on the credibility of her claims about Kavanaugh. Avenatti said the suit from her ex-employer – it was dismissed a month after it was filed – was “completely bogus, which is why it was dismissed almost immediately.” He told AP that he “fully vetted” Swetnick before helping her take her claims against Kavanaugh public. . .Some details of the legal disputes she’s been involved in aren’t known, because documents in the cases are incomplete or no longer available. Records in the lawsuit filed in late 2000 by her ex-employer, Oregon-based software company Webtrends, don’t indicate why it was dismissed. In its civil complaint in a state court in Oregon, the company said Swetnick, a software engineer, was an employee for a few weeks before its human resources department received a report that she had engaged in “unwelcome sexual innuendo and inappropriate conduct” toward two male co-workers at a business lunch. The lawsuit said that Swetnick in turn accused Webtrends of subjecting her to “physically and emotionally threatening and hostile conditions” and that she claimed that she’d been sexually harassed by four co-workers. The co-workers denied the allegations, the suit said. Company officials later determined, the suit said, that Swetnick had provided false information on her employment application. The suit alleged that she had misrepresented the length of time she worked at a previous employer and falsely claimed that she’d earned an undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Johns Hopkins University. Her lawyer, Avenatti, said that “whether she has a college degree or not does not matter as to whether she is a sexual assault victim.” Helene Moglen, Swetnick’s aunt, told AP this week that her niece went off to college but quickly moved back home. In an interview with The Washington Post, Swetnick’s father was quoted as saying that “she bootstrapped herself and became a computer expert. She’s a sharp woman.” None of the executives named in the lawsuit still works at Webtrends. Calls and emails to the company’s Portland headquarters seeking comment received no response. The lawyer who represented the company in the lawsuit also did not return messages seeking comment on Thursday and Friday. Swetnick was on the other side of a civil case in 1994, as a plaintiff, when she filed a personal injury lawsuit in Maryland against the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. She claimed she lost more than $420,000 in earnings after she hurt her nose in a fall on a train in 1992.)

While Democrats forced me into early retirement in 1997 when I was 49 years old, Republicans nominated Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018 when he was 53 years old. While Kavanaugh “serves as a lector at his Washington, D.C. church, the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
