They thought that their forcing me to take an $18,847 (21%) pay cut to transfer from IRS to GAO would keep me at IRS, but they were wrong. They knew that I wanted to be assigned to audits of IRS so that I could use my knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $79,563-$90,173. So to get me to go back to IRS, they succeeded in keeping me off IRS audits until the end of 1985 when the GAO manager who had hired me finally succeeded in a) getting me assigned to audits of IRS and b) promoting me to GS-13, currently $94,610. But then, in 1987, the Democrats who ran GAO’s Chicago office succeeded in forcing him to retire. At the end of 1988,  they threw me off audits of IRS and during 1989, they did everything that they could to get rid of me.  Were it not for Henry Hyde’s intervention, they might very well have succeeded.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Portland’s 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade this weekend was supposed to be a community-building event, showcasing local businesses and offering a positive spin on the area’s sometimes negative perception, the Oregonian reported. But there was a problem: The Multnomah County Republican Party was one of this year’s parade participants. At least it was a problem for an “antifa/anarchist” who sent an anonymous email to parade organizers Saturday, the Portland Mercury reported. According to the Mercury, the email sender threatened that if GOP members are allowed to participate in the parade, “we will have two hundred or more people rush into the parade into the middle and drag and push those people out as we will not give one inch to groups who espouse hatred toward LGBT, immigrants, people of color or others. In case the message was not clear to you this is a sanctuary city and state, and we will not allow these people to spread their views in East Portland.” The email, the Oregonian added, also promised: “You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads, so please consider your decision wisely. … This is non-negotiable.” As you’re likely getting used to hearing these days, parade organizers canceled the event Tuesday, fearing it could end in “the type of riots which happen in downtown Portland,” the Oregonian added. Parade officials had contacted police about the situation, but Rich Jarvis, a spokesman for the Rose Festival Foundation, told the Oregonian that police couldn’t provide additional security. So it was bye-bye parade. “The showdown was imminent,” Jarvis told the Oregonian. “They were boxed into a corner, they simply had no choice. In order to avoid a violent outbreak, they had to cancel the parade.” Direct Action Alliance — a group “organized in response to the rise of fascism in America,” KGW-TV reported — was planning to speak out against fascism and white supremacy during the parade, the Oregonian said. If all the charges of sexual harassment are true, his case is indefensible. That said, it’s time for his media critics to stand down. They are guilty of rank hypocrisy. These same media outlets despised the idea that Donald Trump would drag Bill Clinton’s sexual harassment lawsuits into the presidential campaign. On Jan. 8, 2016, the Times editorial staff sneered: “It is also a tired subject that few Americans want to hear more about. If Mr. Trump has not read enough, he can curl up with a copy of the Starr report.”  Bizarrely, the editorial noted that Hillary Clinton had told a New Hampshire town hall questioner a month earlier that Juanita Broaddrick’s tale of rape was not to be believed. Yet it was Trump who was denounced as sexist and beyond the pale. The Times said: “His aim is to dredge up an ancient scandal and tar Mrs. Clinton with it in a clearly sexist fashion. There should be no place for that kind of politics in this country.” That is, unless it’s the top draw at Fox News, in which case it’s suddenly America’s greatest concern. On April 2, 2017, the Times published a 3,148-word front-page article lamenting “O’Reilly Thrives as Settlements Add Up.” Reporters Emily Steel and Michael Schmidt declared that their investigation found five women who received payouts from either O’Reilly or Fox “in exchange for agreeing to not pursue litigation or speak about their accusations against him. The agreements totaled about $13 million.” As they noted, the lion’s share of that total came in a $9 million settlement from 2004. That was 13 years ago, but it didn’t qualify as a “tired subject” or some “ancient scandal.” CNN relentlessly pushed for O’Reilly’s dismissal, calling up advertisers and pressuring them to take commercials off their competition. Bashing O’Reilly dominated their Sunday show “Reliable Sources” for weeks and their “news” programming after their victory. But two days after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke in 1998, CNN aired a town hall meeting titled “Investigating the President: Media Madness?” Host Jeff Greenfield insisted that millions of Americans were “asking the press one question fraught with significance: What the hell are you people doing trying to find out what kind of sex the President of the United States might or might not be having?” Back then, it was “media madness” to investigate whether then-President Bill Clinton might be assaulting women in the workplace — the Oval Office. There was zero concern about a “culture of abuse” inside the White House. For good measure, CNN moved on to specials attacking special prosecutor Ken Starr for prudishly investigating where CNN and the rest of the press never wanted to go. It’s not only CNN and the Times that are displaying a different moral standard. Does no one find it just a wee bit ironic that disgraced Brian Williams is still doing a weeknight show on MSNBC, where he can lecture that O’Reilly was dispatched by “the power of the female consumer”? Women deserve a workplace where men don’t harass them for sex. But that’s what these sanctimonious liberal journalists care about. It just doesn’t matter how brutal the alleged rape of Juanita Broaddrick was. What matters is that Bill O’Reilly had to go. Bill Clinton is laughing.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois State Senator Heather Steans (D-Chicago) and Illinois State Representative Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) believe that legalizing marijuana for recreational use will be good for Illinois so they have introduced SB 316 and HB 2353 and, as part of the public relations push, formed the Coalition for a Safer Illinois. Yes, Safer. It’s hard to imagine how adding more drugged drivers on the roads and putting more drugs into the hands of our children could possibly make Illinois safer. The bills before the General Assembly would legalize the possession of up to 28 grams of marijuana and allow facilities to sell marijuana products for adults over 21 and tax and regulate those sales “in a manner similar to alcohol.” “Safer?”  Hardly.  We just have to look to the examples of Colorado and Washington State to see the consequences.  Both states legalized marijuana for recreational use in 2013 and 2012 respectively. Colorado now has more pot shops than Starbucks and McDonald’s combined. . .You, too, can help!
