August 23 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Wheaton’s City Council has narrowed the field of its 10 applicants for its West District vacancy to 3, and I am not one of them. The Council will interview those 3 finalists in the coming weeks. Critics of the Roosevelt Road corridor study by Camiros, Ltd. and Valerie Kretchmer & Associates (https://www.wheaton.il.us/930/Roosevelt-Road) have called for the Council to halt all action on the study until it fills its West District vacancy. It appears, sadly, like before, when the Council filled its North District vacancy, that it will not disclose who the 3 finalists are. I hope that the 3 finalists will get together, issue a joint press release, and call for a candidate forum to be held. Residents of Wheaton’s West District, including me, should have the opportunity to urge the Council to select one of those 3 finalists. Obviously, one could determine who the 3 finalist are if all 7 of the unsuccessful candidates got together and issued a press release. – Dave Diersen

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Your GOPUSA Illinois Editor, Dave Diersen, calls for DuPage County to ASAP a) draft, b) propose, c) seek input on from journalists like me, d) discuss, and e) vote on official press credentialing policies and procedures. Press credentialing requirements should NOT include a) having a degree in journalism, b) being paid, c) claiming to be just a reporter and not a journalist, d) denying being an activist, e) or claiming to be nonpartisan. I have served as the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. Since 2004, GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails have gone out each and every morning, and since 2015, each and every evening too. Those emails have included links to more than 344,100 articles and information on many upcoming events. I worked for GAO as an Analyst for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $98,198-$127,654/year. What GAO Analysts do (https://www.gao.gov/about/careers/career-paths/) is extremely similar to what journalists do. In addition, I became a Forensic Accountant in 1997, Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, Licensed CPA in 1981, Certified Internal Auditor in 1981, and CPA in 1979. – Dave Diersen

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Government is nasty. Politics is nasty. Since 2005, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have demonized me, denigrated, me, and condemned be as being like Jeff Gannon. Since 2005, they have viciously used against me what happened with GOPUSA, Talon News, and White House Correspondent Jeff Gannon. SEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talon_News They paint me as being a clone of Jeff Gannon and even worse things. Ever since I became a GOPUSA reporter in 2000, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I ask bad questions at press conferences and share privileged information with reporters that have caused Republican candidates to be defeated and even worse things. Of course, I should sue my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes. I should write a book about activists, candidates, elected officials, and party leaders in Illinois who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican, but a) who do NOT want me to know about their press conferences, b) who do NOT want me to attend their press conferences, c) who do NOT want me to ask questions during their press conferences, d) who do NOT want me to speak with other reporters, e) who have barred me from attending their press conferences, f) who have had me thrown out of their press conferences, and/or g) who do not want me to report on their press conferences. – Dave Diersen

AMERICAN PRESS INSTITUTE
— SEPTEMBER 24, 2014 FLASHBACK: Offer disclosures and statements of values – CRAIG SILVERMAN (DIERSEN: Of course, journalists should disclose the sources and amounts of all their income. My Civil Service Retirement System pension is $53,316/year. My Social Security is $2,118/year. All the time and money necessary to send out a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email each and every morning and each and every evening comes from me. By definition, journalists who are employees of newspapers, television stations, radio stations, websites, or other organizations cannot claim to be independent of their employer. I should sue any individual, any organization, any company, or any government that hints/implies/argues/shouts that I am paid by the Republican Party, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, Milton Township Republican Central Committee, or any other organization. If the aforesaid organizations paid me, they would promote my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. In fact, the aforesaid organizations fail/refuse to promote my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. Further, journalists should disclose their citizenship status, gender, race, age, religion, national origin, how long their ancestors have been in America, if they are a veteran or not, political affiliation, work experience, education, professional certifications and licenses, etc.)
https://www.americanpressinstitute.org/publications/reports/strategy-studies/disclosures-values/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Looking across the landscape, we conclude there are typically five situations when a disclosure needs to be added to a piece of content: Personal connections to sources, organizations or events mentioned in reporting. Organizational links to sources, organizations or events mentioned in reporting. Limitations of any data or material used. (Meaning: Here’s what we don’t know, or some mitigating factors.) When unusual methods are used to gather information (such as in the above example). When there is an unusual arrangement with sources (such as enabling them to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym). . .A reporter’s name, email, phone number and even Twitter handle are now common information that accompanies their content. . .Beyond disclosures about specific reporting, more reporters and organizations are offering pages that are updated over time to disclose any personal ties, investments or relationships. . .PunditFact, an offshoot of PolitiFact, offers a paragraph of disclosure about its sources of funding right on its homepage.)

QUORA
— DECEMBER 1, 2012 FLASHBACK: What is the difference between a journalist and a reporter? – Ashutosh Sinha
https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-a-journalist-and-a-reporter
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In professional news media, all reporters are journalists but not all journalists are reporters. “Reporter” is a specific role: Someone who gathers facts and information from multiple sources, verifies them and writes a story or relays (reports) those findings in a TV, radio or Internet broadcast. “Journalist” includes anyone who is part of the editorial process of gathering and disseminating news: Reporters, editors, producers, photographers, camera operators, news columnists, etc. In a literal sense, anyone can be a reporter by relaying their direct observations. (e.g. I saw a car crash.) With the advent of social media such as Twitter, amateur reporters are increasingly a breaking news alert network for traditional news organizations. Ordinary people can also commit acts of journalism by following the journalistic process of fact-gathering, multi-source verification and putting those facts in context (e.g. A high-speed police chase after a million dollar bank robbery yesterday ended when the suspect’s car crashed into a lamp post at a busy downtown intersection.) Today, reporters’ roles are being blurred as they are required to take on more tasks that include photography, editing, blogging, shooting and producing video, audio, etc., so “journalist” is increasingly the most appropriate catch-all term.)

DAILY HERALD
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: DuPage County begins discussions about allowing marijuana sales – Robert Sanchez (DIERSEN: Yesterday morning, during its public comment period, I spoke at the DuPage County Development Committee meeting and urged that DuPage County be the first county in Illinois to ban the sale of pot in its unincorporated areas. What do you say to my pot-pushing critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who pander to the Democrat news media and who proclaim that I cannot be both a member of the news media and someone who speaks at DuPage County meetings? What they are really saying is that the only people who are legitimate members of the news media are a) those who are paid for what they do, b) those who have a degree in journalism, and c) those who state that they are non-partisan. Constructively, yesterday morning, DuPage County suspended, if not revoked, my GOPUSA ILLINOIS press credentials because I urged DuPage County to be the first county in Illinois to ban the sale of pot in its unincorporated areas. How should I react to that? https://www.foxnews.com/politics/wisconsin-governor-sued-for-barring-conservative-journalists-from-briefing
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A conservative think tank in Wisconsin is suing the state’s governor, Tony Evers, amid allegations that his administration has denied journalists working for the group’s new service access to a budget press briefing and refused to add its reporters to the governor’s press list. The Maclver Institute, a right-leaning public policy shop that runs the Maclver News Service, filed suit earlier this week against Evers for purportedly excluding its reporters from press briefings and failing to provide them with media materials given to other journalists. The lawsuit claims that the Evers’ administration is violating the journalists’ constitutional rights to free speech, freedom of the press and equal access. “Our reporters have the same constitutional rights as every other journalist in Wisconsin, and we have a duty to keep the public informed about what’s happening in state government,” Brett Healy, the president of the MacIver Institute, said in a statement. “While we hoped Gov. Evers would do the right thing and treat our journalists they (sic) way they treat others, the administration has refused. We now have no option but to sue.” The Maclver News Service covers Wisconsin’s legislature, governor’s office and other political affairs from a conservative viewpoint. Healy added in his statement: “We hope to quickly resolve this issue, not just so that our journalists can go about their important work but to ensure no future governor engages in the same unconstitutional practices.” The Maclver Institute is being represented by the Liberty Justice Center, a Chicago-based public interest law firm that made headlines last year for representing Illinois state worker Mark Janus in his landmark case in the Supreme Court against the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union.)

People who have good health care, are more highly educated and have pensions generally live longer. “They all belong to a subgroup of the population that is privileged. And privileged subgroups tend to live longer and better than the average,” Olshansky said. “Despite Bernie Sanders perhaps claiming otherwise, he’s part of the 1 percent. Actually, it’s more like 1/100 of 1 percent.” Olshansky said the older candidates could belong to a group of what are called “superagers,” people who live into their 80s but show a mental sharpness as if they were in their 50s or 60s. https://nypost.com/2019/08/19/bodyguard-for-cnns-april-ryan-charged-with-assault-for-forcibly-removing-journalist-from-event/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: CNN political analyst April Ryan — who has repeatedly blasted President Trump for attacking and vilifying the press — got her bodyguard to forcibly remove a journalist from an event she was speaking at in New Jersey, leading cops to charge him Monday with assault. “This was more than just an assault on me,” tweeted New Brunswick Today editor Charlie Kratovil. “This was an assault on freedom of the press.” Kratovil claims he was violently tossed from the New Jersey Parent Summit on Aug. 3 by Ryan’s goon after spending two hours inside filming other guests and speakers without any problems. Kratovil had been invited to The Heldrich Hotel, where the event was held, by a public relations firm and asked to cover it. Video posted online shows him sitting in the audience as Ryan takes the stage and starts speaking. Moments later, her bodyguard — Joel Morris, 30, of Illinois — comes into view and is told something by Ryan. He promptly walks over to Kratovil and allegedly attempts to take his video camera. “Put that down,” Kratovil yells. “Don’t you dare — put that down, sir! That’s my camera!” A tussle allegedly ensues and Morris winds up walking Kratovil out of the venue — with his arm twisted around his back, the journalist says. “This is a personal event,” Morris can be heard telling him. “You’re not allowed back in.” A woman can be heard screaming at Kratovil at one point, saying: “How dare you come in here and interrupt this event like this!” “I didn’t interrupt,” he fired back. Kratovil posted a video on his Twitter page Monday, explaining how cops found “probable cause” to charge Morris with harassment, assault and theft. “I was there to cover April Ryan’s speech,” Kratovil explained. “Joel Morris stole [my] camera, high-tailed it out of the room. One thing led to another, I ended up being assaulted after retrieving the camera. But now Mr. Morris is going to have to show up on Sept. 12…in Superior Court.” Kratovil added, “It’s a shame that we even have to be at this point.” He read a statement from the NJ Society of Professional Journalists, saying: “It is never under any circumstances permissible for a person aggrieved at being photographed or videotaped to lay hands on the journalist, or attempt to take away the journalist’s equipment.” “It is sad we have to say this, and remind people of this — and it’s super sad that we have to remind another journalist of this,” Kratovil said. “We are still waiting for [Ryan] to comment on this unfortunate incident…Maybe now that there’s criminal charges we might hear something from her. I hope sincerely that she does comment and I hope she does condemn this. This is unacceptable…Not in our country, we have freedom of the press here.” Ryan, in the past, has repeatedly voiced her outrage with Trump and how he treats the media. She even published a book last year — titled “Under Fire” — which talks about the challenges and attacks that journalists have faced in recent years. The longtime political analyst did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday. “Her silence is deafening at this point,” Kratovil said, speaking to NJ.com. “It’s been more than two weeks. (FROM THE ARTICLE: A federal survey shows nearly 67 million Americans binge drink at least monthly, meaning women down four drinks during a single occasion, men five. Midwestern states have some of the highest binge-drinking rates in terms of both prevalence and intensity, putting millions of people at risk. Research links excessive alcohol use to fatty liver, cirrhosis and cancers of the breast, liver, colon, mouth and throat as well as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, dementia, anxiety and depression. Nearly half of murders involve alcohol, according to studies. Drinking kills about 88,000 people annually, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. Such diseases and social ills cost the nation an estimated $249 billion a year. Even one drink a day is unhealthy, said Dr. Sarah Hartz, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. “If you’re going to drink, know it’s not good for you.”)

Better yet, I should sue them. Ever-increasingly, they falsely, despairingly, and slanderously hint/imply/argue/shout that I harass people. They stress that I have lived in DuPage County, Milton Township, and Wheaton only since 1978. They stress that I have been a Republican Precinct Committeeman only since 1999. They stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) webmaster, Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) member, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, IRS employee, Post Office employee, etc. They stress the adverse actions that they have taken against me during MTRCC meetings and that the aforesaid organizations and employers have taken against me. They stress that they almost got ICRC to censure me in 2006. They stress that they crushed me when I sought the open MTRCC Treasurer office in 2004.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Simi Valley City Council member Ruth Luevanos is now facing possible recall and censure stemming from a controversial video she made in her City Hall office advising immigrants of their legal rights prior to recent ICE raids. During public comments at Monday night’s council meeting, Simi resident Joe Piechowski said he was there to serve Luevanos with a notice of intention to circulate a recall petition. Such a notice is the first formal step in a very protected recall process in which Piechowski will eventually have to gather about 11,000 signatures of Simi Valley registered voters to hold a recall election. TOWN COURIER
— City Councilman Robert Wu Seeks Second Term – Ellyn Wexler
http://towncourier.com/city-councilman-robert-wu-seeks-second-term/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Many of the skills Wu has honed during his day job—as senior attorney at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)—have helped him become effective in his City of Gaithersburg position. “I often find myself in the role of interpreting ordinances, parsing out legalese when amendments to existing language are proposed, and, at least in one instance, actually drafting an ordinance,” he said. “At GAO,” Wu explained, “I serve in a quasi-judicial role, adjudicating bid protests filed with our office. The skillset is very similar to that used in deciding matters brought before the city council, including fairmindedness, the ability to absorb large records and ultimately render a decision.” “A firm belief that process matters” also factors into both jobs. “As companies who file protests with GAO understand, while we might not necessarily agree with them in the end, each argument raised is heard and carefully considered,” Wu said. “The same goes for my work at city council. Each individual who takes their valuable time to appear before us or submit written matters has to know that their views have been heard and seriously considered.”)

I am seeking appointment to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy. At the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) August 14, 2019 meeting at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream, two of my fellow MTRCC members in Wheaton’s West District falsely charged me with harassing the hotel’s employees. In addition, one of them, in front of an attorney, said that he was going to do everything that he could to stop everyone from reading my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_campaigning

(FROM THE POSTING: Negative campaigning or mudslinging is the process of deliberate spreading negative information about someone or something to worsen the public image of the described. Deliberate spreading of such information can be motivated either by honest desire of the campaigner to warn others against real dangers or deficiencies of the described, or by the campaigner’s dishonest ideas on methods of winning in political, business or other spheres of competition against an honest rival. The public image of an entity can be defined as reputation, esteem, respect, acceptance of the entity’s appearance, values and behavior by the general public of a given territory and/or a social group, possibly within time limits. As target groups of public and their values differ, so negativity or positivity of a public image is relative; thus, to be successful, negative campaigning has to take into account current values of the group it addresses. The degree of strictness in practicing the group’s values as opposed to its tolerance for violating the norms has also to be taken into consideration.)

https://evanstonnow.com/story/government/bill-smith/equity/2019-08-16/82700/panel-seeks-tax-break-for-black-homeowners
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The resolution said the measures would help “remedy the city’s role in historical and institutional racism and discrimination.” The resolution adds that while much of the “wealth and opportunity gap” affecting black residents are tied to home loan redlining practices in parts of the 2nd and 5th Wards, the commission didn’t want to limit the reparations programs to residents in those neighborhoods. The panel ducked addressing issues regarding how the policies might be implemented, “acknowledging that additional research and data are necessary to create a fair and equitable process and determine the long-term sustainability of the funding sources.”)

August 14 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The August Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) monthly meeting is this evening at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream. The social hour starts at 6:00 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM. SEE: http://dupagegop.org/calendar-3/

I will be signing in as a candidate. I am a candidate to be appointed to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy. The other six Republican candidates are Edward Ahern, Jeffery Antonelli, Angela Blatner, Nancy Harding, Mark Kmeicik, and Robert McNeily.

Hopefully, all of the aforesaid seven candidates will a) attend meeting, b) announce their candidacies, c) and seek the support of the eighteen Republican Precinct Committeemen who represent Wheaton’s West District. Those eighteen Precinct Committeemen are Joseph Caruso, Dave Diersen, Thomas Elsner, Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski, Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor McCarthy, Robert McNeily, Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.

Hopefully, MTRCC will gather relevant information about the aforesaid seven candidates, provide that information to the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen, and host a candidate forum. The goal of providing information on the candidates and hosting a candidate forum is to help the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen recommend to Wheaton’s City Council the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the Wheaton West District City Council vacancy.

In my opinion, the following information about all 10 candidates should be disclosed: How long they have lived in Wheaton, how long they have lived in Wheaton’s West District, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, their memberships in professional associations, why they want to be appointed to fill the vacancy, what they believe the three most important issues are that Wheaton needs to address in the next 2 years and how those issues those issues should be addressed, their political affiliation and activities, their civic activities, if they would vote for or against banning the sale of pot in Wheaton, what their position is on Wheaton’s Roosevelt Road corridor, if they would vote for or against requiring employers in Wheaton to use E-Verify, and what they have done that demonstrates they can carry out typical city council functions. In my opinion, Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District should have the above information.

At Wheaton’s City Council meeting on Monday, August 19, 2019, its members will go into executive session to deliberate on the 10 candidates who have applied. Because, in that session, they will be reviewing the documents that the 10 candidates have submitted, Wheaton has denied my FOIA request for those documents.

According to MTRCC’s bylaws (http://www.miltongop.org/about-mtrcc/by-laws), “When a position within Milton Township is declared vacant, the MTRCC shall meet within forty (40) days of the declaration of vacancy to recommend an individual to fill such vacancy. The recommendation shall be decided at a convention of the Organization by a majority vote of the Organization through a written ballot.” It would be great if MTRCC would host a candidate forum for the aforesaid seven Republican candidates.” I urge MTRCC to do the aforesaid concerning Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy.

Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s August 14 meeting and a candidate forum if one is held: a) Wheaton’s mayor and City Council members, b) 6th Congressional District candidates Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti; c) DuPage County Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and Babette Holder; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni, Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen, Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino, and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard; h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.

It will be extremely interesting to see which of the seven candidates are endorsed by which of the aforesaid candidates, elected officials, and party leaders, and especially which candidates Ives and Sanguinetti might endorse because they both have served on Wheaton’s City Council.

Further, I will be asking a) Susan Fitch, Chris Zaruba, and other Wheaton City Council members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton and b) Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Bob Larsen, Jim Zay, and other DuPage County Board members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in DuPage County’s unincorporated areas.

Further, I will be asking the meeting’s attendees to join me, Bob Cherry, Dick Furstenau, B.J. Singer, and Tim Whelan in urging DuPage County, Wheaton, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Lombard, Downers Grove, Naperville, Warrenville, West Chicago, and the rest of the 38 municipalities in DuPage County to ban the sale of pot.

Further, I will be asking the DuPage County Republican Central Committee, its Chairman Marty Keller, MTRCC, and the other eight Republican township party organizations in DuPage County to urge DuPage County and the 38 municipalities in DuPage County to ban the sale of pot. – Dave Diersen

CYBER CIVICS
— Responsibilities of U.S. Citizens (DIERSEN: In my opinion, each and every voter in Wheaton, and especially, each and every voter in Wheaton’s West District and each and every Precinct Committeeman in the district should a) learn everything that they can about the 10 candidates who are seeking to be appointed to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy, b) analyze that information, c) decide who they believe the best candidate would be and why, and d) communicate that to Wheaton’s City Council by email at allcouncil@wheaton.il.us.)
http://www.civics.ks.gov/kansas/citizenship/responsibilities-of-citizens.html
(FROM THE POSTING: Staying informed. Citizens have the responsibility to stay informed of the issues affecting their communities, as well as national and international issues, and to be active in the civic processes. This includes being well informed about the issues and candidates before voting in an election, getting involved in a political campaign or running for public office, or using their right to address the government through activism.)

DAILY HERALD
— AUGUST 9, 2019 FLASHBACK: 10 want West District seat on Wheaton City Council – Katlyn Smith (DIERSEN: The Daily Herald has published some information about 5 of the candidates (David Diersen, Robert McNeily, Lynn Robbins, Mark Kmiecik, and Khizar Jafri), but what about the other 5: Nancy Harding, Edward Ahern, Jeffrey Antonelli, Angela Blatner, and Krista Selvey? In my opinion, the Daily Herald should obtain and publish at least the following information about all 10 candidates: How long they have lived in Wheaton, how long they have lived in Wheaton’s West District, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, their memberships in professional associations, why they want to be appointed to fill the vacancy, what they believe the three most important issues are that Wheaton needs to address in the next 2 years and how those issues those issues should be addressed, their political affiliation and activities, their civic activities, if they would vote for or against banning the sale of pot in Wheaton, what their position is on Wheaton’s Roosevelt Road corridor, if they would vote for or against requiring employers in Wheaton to use E-Verify, and what they have done that demonstrates they can carry out typical city council functions.)
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20190809/10-want-west-district-seat-on-wheaton-city-council
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Diersen is the founder of the daily newsletter Gopillinois.com. McNeily lost his bid for the West District seat in 2016 against incumbent Todd Scalzo. According to his LinkedIn page, he is the Midwest regional manager of Turning Point USA, a conservative group founded by Wheeling High School alum Charlie Kirk for college and high school students. Robbins, a former Illinois Park and Recreation Association board member, also ran unsuccessfully against Scalzo for the West District seat in 2016. Kmiecik finished third in another three-way race for the seat in 2009. Jafri, a finance and accounting consultant, lost to Tim Elliott for a District 4 spot on the DuPage County Board in 2016. The Democrat was seeking his first elected office at the time.)
