has serious concerns about the impact of recreational marijuana sales on the
teens in our school district. We urge the City Council to consider the impact
of its actions on the teens in our community,” District 203′s letter said.
The School District 204 Board of Education raised similar concerns. “While it
will remain illegal for our students to purchase recreational marijuana, we
have concerns that the increased availability in our community may lead to
potential issues at school,” the District 204′s letter says. “With easier
access to recreational marijuana in our community, what will be the long-term
cognitive impact on our youth who use the drug?” North Central College
also sent a letter, which did not so much take a stance on the issue but
pointed out that “because marijuana remains illegal under federal law and
federal financial assistance remains important to the College and our students,
marijuana will continue to be banned on our campus.”)
