Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

TMN
— DeSantis introduces bill to provide greater transparency over govt. pensions – Bryan Renbaum  (DIERSEN: Andrzejewski wants to know for federal retires like me: “Who is retired, where they worked, who they are, how much they got, how long they worked, how much they paid into the system.” Since 1966, when I was 18 years old, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have demonized me, denigrated me, and condemned me for earning credits toward a Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension. Since 1997, when I was 49 years old, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have demonized me, denigrated me, and condemned me for collecting a $50,856 CSRS pension in today’s dollars.  While I worked part-time for the Post Office 1966-1969, for IRS 1971-1980, and for GAO 1980-1997, I paid into the CSRS $70,932 in yesterday’s dollars (7% of my salary). In today’s dollars, my ending GAO salary was $122,991. So far, in today’s dollars, CSRS has paid me $1,008,644 (238 months X $4,238). Andrzejewski should acknowledge that if my Democrat GAO superiors had not been allowed/encouraged to force me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997, I might still be working for GAO, still paying 7% of my salary into the CSRS, and CSRS would not have paid me anything. I should write a book about those who allowed/encouraged my Democrats GAO superiors to force me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997.  They certainly did not side with me in Diersen v. GAO.)
http://www.talkmedianews.com/featured/2017/07/12/desantis-introduces-bill-provide-greater-transparency-govt-pensions/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) told TMN Wednesday that today he will formally introduce legislation aimed at providing greater transparency over government-funded pensions. “Let’s open the books on the federal pension data. Taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent and let’s just put that information out there for public consumption,” DeSantis said. “It’s very difficult, I think, to be opposed to that concept and so I think we’ll probably get pretty strong support,” he added. The Taxpayer-Funded Pension Disclosure Act of 2017 will be reviewed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Adam Andrzejewski, founder and CEO of the Illinois-based nonprofit taxpayer watchdog group Open the Books, spoke alongside DeSantis and said his organization worked with the congressman’s office for three months to help craft the legislation. Andrzejewski said passage of the measure would constitute a landmark victory for transparency advocates. “For the first time it would make subject to the Freedom of Information Act the release of: Who is retired, where they worked, who they are, how much they got, how long they worked, how much they paid into the system – so we can finally bring hard data to the issues of pensions,” he explained. Andrzejewski said research by Moodys suggests that taxpayers on average foot the bill for about $150 billion per year in federal pension funds and that the number increases to about $3.5 trillion when unfunded liabilities are considered. “The amount of money that goes out in terms of retirement annuities each year dwarfs the budget of the state of Texas or dwarfs the budget in the state of Florida each year,” he explained.)

— Electric Cars Are the Future? Overwhelmingly, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) hate cars, and especially cars made by General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, b) hate those who own/owned cars made by General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler, and c) hate unions and past, present, and future union members.  I was a union member for almost 12 years. — Illinois taxpayers foot the bill for legislators — even after they retire – Roger Kempa, Darien  (DIERSEN: In my defense, my $50,856 Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension is only 41% of my ending GS-13 Step 10 salary of $122,991 in today’s dollars. The federal government subsidizes $17,288 (75%) of my and my wife’s health, dental, and vision insurance, but we have to pay $5,763 (25%). My Social Security is only $2,028 because I get a CSRS pension. Federal COLAs are far less than inflation.  My CSRS pension has been, is, and will forever be dramatically reduced because my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take their early retirement offer in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/letters/ct-illinois-taxpayers-legislators-retire-pension-radogno-20170711-story.html
(FROM THE LETTER: This is in response to a Monday letter to the editor “Farewell, Sen. Radogno.” Former state Sen. Christine Radogno will be with the taxpayers of Illinois for many decades to come. She can expect to receive pension payments totaling more than $2.3 million during her retirement. Her final salary of more than $95,000 results in an estimated first-year pension of more than $81,000. That payment increases by 3 percent annually, thanks to the ill-conceived General Assembly Retirement System. Dozens of Illinois legislators have said “no” to their pensions. Radogno said “yes,” as if it were an entitlement. Folks retiring on their Social Security pension are much less fortunate. Someone retiring at age 65 would receive only around $35,340 per year, or 37.2 percent of a $95,000 salary (if he or she is married) or otherwise $23,621 per year, which is 24.9 percent of a $95,000 salary. Meanwhile, Radogno’s first-year estimated pension represents 85.3 percent of her salary. Retired Illinois legislators with four or more years of service have their insurance for health care, prescriptions and vision care subsidized. Generous Illinois taxpayers foot the bill for those benefits and their annual pensions! And none of those pensions are subject to Illinois taxation. Illinois taxpayers will be watching Radogno’s replacement. He or she should start by setting a good example: refusing a taxpayer-paid GARS pension and insurance for health care, prescriptions and vision care. Since all folks receiving a pension in Illinois are not subject to Illinois income tax, an income cap needs to be established, say $60,000 as an example. Anything above that cap would be taxed. It is a matter of fairness, and equity, toward paying the $5 billion, 32 percent income tax increase. How about it Illinois state legislators?)

— Township regime angling to restore perks – Kurt Dorr, Naperville
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20170712/township-regime-angling-to-restore-perks
(FROM THE LETTER: I am very disappointed in the article by Marie Wilson alleging the Township Road District merger between Naperville Township and Lisle Township is proving difficult. As a former candidate for Township Trustee I am pretty familiar with the course of events leading up to the referendum. What Marie fails to mention (and it is critically important) is that the initial proposal by the Township and City of Naperville was to have Naperville’s street department take over the Township roads. That would have been the optimum deal and saved the most money. However, the vested interest (Republicans, no less) rose up to stop the loss of their generous pay and benefits. It was only after the Township Supervisor, at that time, cut their budget and forced the road district to strike a deal with Lisle Township. For the new regime at the Naperville Township Road District to cry it’s too difficult to effect the merger is disingenuous at best. They are simply angling to restore their overly generous pay and benefits; and the article by Marie Wilson plays right into their hands.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— THORNER: SCHLAFLY’S MOST POWERFUL OFFICE IN THE WORLD (PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN)  (DIERSEN: If you want to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance the Republican Party platform and the Illinois Republican Party platform, please become a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain. I have been the Republican Committeeman for DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 since 1999.)
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/07/thorner-schlaflys-most-powerful-office-in-the-world.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Donald Trump is the most powerful man in the world, so technically, the U.S. Presidency is the “Most Powerful Office in the World.”  But what if you were told of another public office that (ultimately) chooses who will be President and virtually every other elected official in the U. S.?  If that were true, wouldn’t that office (ultimately) be the “Most Powerful Office in the World”? Conservatives take pride in their knowledge of the Constitution and the outward forms of American Government. Many can quote the Founding Fathers, such as, “The least governed are the best governed” (Jefferson) and “Government is like fire, a useful servant but a deadly master” (George Washington), etc., but the bottom line is, many conservatives know next to nothing about the real system of American government, which isn’t the fairy tale that has been taught in school and colleges over the past few decades. If you are tired of seeing things continue to go down the drain, it is essential that you understand how liberals dominate our government.  Madigan’s budget deal was the straw that broke camel’s back for many conservatives. What might be done to salvage Illinois after ten Republicans joined Madigan and 60 other Democrats in voting for a permanent, 32 percent income tax increase and 33 percent corporate tax hike, when Illinois residents already shoulder the heaviest local and state tax burden in the country? Irresponsible is that a three-fifths majority of state lawmakers, including Republicans, sold out their constituencies to reward the special interest groups (public employee unions, trial lawyers and other political insiders) that have been paying to keep them in office for decades. Understanding the seven laws of American government, set forth in an essay by Phyllis Schlafly in the early 90’s — The Most Powerful Office in The World Is NOT The President of the United States! — is essential to change Illinois from a failed state to one that will live up to its potential, where people feel proud to live and work and where businesses can grow and prosper.  The lack of good people at the grass roots is why we get so many bad apples that call themselves “Republicans”. E-mail Andy Schlafly to order copies of Phyllis Schlafly’s article. Phyllis Schlafly (August 15, 1924 – September 5, 2016) was a founding member of the modern conservative movement. She was described by the New York Times as the “one of the most relentless and accomplished platform debaters of any gender to be found on any side of any issue.”  Following are excerpts from Phyllis’ article, which is as powerful today as it was back in the early 90’s: . . . Therefore, Precinct Committeeman is the most powerful office in the world because Precinct Committeemen determine who gets the chance to be elected to office at every level of government. Remember, if your candidate is not on the ballot, he will not be elected.)

BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
— Bloomington’s immigrant resolution on hold for state law – Maria Nagle  (DIERSEN: As everyone on the planet earth knows full-well, to say that immigrants are welcome is code for expressing hatred against individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. To support the Illinois Trust Act is to express hatred against the aforesaid groups.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Bloomington City Council will not act Monday night on a proposed resolution intended to assure Bloomington’s immigrant residents that they are welcome. The item is being pulled from the agenda for the 7 p.m. Monday council meeting so the city can wait for Gov. Bruce Rauner to act on related legislation, said Mayor Tari Renner. The resolution would be a statement of the city’s dedication to diversity and inclusion and not a change in law enforcement policy, according to background documentation submitted to the council. The Illinois Trust Act, if enacted, would prevent state law enforcement agencies from assisting in immigration actions unless there’s a warrant and offer protections from immigration enforcement to some safe havens such as schools. If Rauner signs the bill, possibly by Aug. 1, it would affect some of the language in the city’s proposed resolution, said Renner.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170706/NEWS02/170709952/illinois-takes-first-step-toward-a-budget
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois House has voted to override Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto of a bill to raise the state’s income tax, the first and most difficult of a series of votes expected today to give the state its first budget in three years. The action came on a largely party-line vote 71 to 42, the bare number needed, with GOP lawmakers who broke from Rauner in passing the bill last week joining with all but a handful of Democrats to finalize the tax increase. Since the Senate already had voted for an override, the action means that, effective July 1, the individual income tax will rise from 3.75 percent to 4.95 percent and the corporate rate from 5.25 percent to 7 percent. The action also sets the stage for what is likely to be a no-holds-barred race for governor next year between Rauner, seeking a second term, and one of a half-dozen Democrats who are vying to take him on in the general election. CENTRAL ILLINOIS PROUD
— What federal government can get from your voter file  Most states spurn Trump commission – CNN  (DIERSEN: What do/did your superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates think of your political affiliation?  Democrats run the federal government. While worked for the federal government for almost 30 years 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, virtually all my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were Democrats who used my being a Republican against me. Since at least the 1960s, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation have been rampant in the federal government. GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job.  IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.  The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.

(FROM THE POSTING: This memo was sent to House Republicans yesterday afternoon. There is a real and legitimate fear brewing…

Dear House Republican Members,

[The HGOP’s] Digital Media Manager, has prepared the information below to help guide members who experience abusive social media comments.

What to do if you receive threats on Facebook, Twitter or other social media accounts:

* If you feel the threat is imminent call 911
* Report threats of violence immediately to State Police at this phone number: 877-xxx-xxxx
* Then report to social media platform – here’s how
* Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/help/181495968648557?helpref=faq_content
* Twitter:https://support.twitter.com/articles/20169998#whatshouldido
* Or, ask your communications staffer for help
Others ways to manage posts or comments:

* Delete comments containing profanity, name calling, or libelous statements.
* Hiding a comment will leave it visible only to the person who posted it and their friends.
* Like or comment on positive comments – which will push them to the top of news feed. This is a very good strategy.
* Ban individuals who repeatedly post abusive comments especially if they are not constituents.

Call me if you have any questions or issues.)

AMERICAN FREE PRESS
— Company Sued for Anti-White Bias  Tech-worker’s lawsuit alleges India-based company in U.S. racially discriminates – John Friend
http://www.americanfreepress.net/PDF/Issue%2027_28%202017%20AFP.pdf (Page 17)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As readers of this newspaper are fully aware, white Americans have been targeted for discrimination and demonization for decades now. With openly anti-white public policies institutionalized across the country—affirmative action, diversity, quotas, and forced racial integration, for example—and a distorted, highly weaponized historical narrative that depicts whites as evil and oppressive, whites now regularly find themselves in the crosshairs of the hostile, anti-white forces ruling this country. In reality, though, whites are blatantly discriminated against and targeted for ridicule, slander, and other abuse—including physical assault, rape, and murder—on a daily basis. Case in point: A former high-tech employee at Infosys, an India-based technology consulting firm with offices across the United States, has filed a lawsuit against his former employer alleging that the company is openly hostile to white workers and favors those from India and other parts of South Asia. Erin Green, who worked as a supervisor at Infosys in its Plano, Texas office and rose to the rank of head of global immigration, was terminated in June 2016 for allegedly violating the company’s code of conduct for utilizing his work computer for personal use. Green, a white man, maintains that non-Indian and non-Asian employees were systematically discriminated against, berated, and denied raises and promotional opportunities. Green is one of many former employees and job applicants of the tech giant who have filed lawsuits against Infosys alleging improper treatment and outright discrimination.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “What’s interesting about it, while most people think Congress gets some cushy deal in terms of healthcare, guess what,” says David Schultz, a professor of political science at Hamline University. “By law, they have to buy their health care through the health care exchanges.” Members of Congress used to have the plan that’s currently given federal employees called the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FEHB).  Schultz says that plan is comparable to what a large corporation would offer to its employees. In 2014, that all changed. When Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, it decided Members of Congress – and their staffs – should be required to get their insurance benefits through the ACA exchanges. Members and their staffs are given the choice of 57 plans through the Washington, D.C. exchanges.  According to Adam Hudson, a spokesman for DC Health Link, that adds up to about 11,000 people. At the time of the ACA debate, Rep. Tom Coburn (R-OK) said, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If we’re going to create a government-run plan, then let’s put us in it.” According to the Congressional Research Service, the employer (the government) pays between 72 percent and 75 percent of the premium. That’s slightly more than the average of 83 percent covered by large employers and even with the average of 72 percent covered by small employers. Some Members choose not to take the employer contribution or choose to donate it.)

If you want to walk with one of the Republican entries, I suggest being at the staging area at Fifth Third Bank on north Main Street at 9:00 AM.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20170630/5-beloved-fixtures-in-suburban-july-4-parades
(FROM THE ARTICLE: These parades have been around for generations — Wheaton’s Fourth of July parade has been going on for more than 100 years — and each one has a little something extra that you won’t find in other towns. While this is not a comprehensive list, here are some of the beloved suburban parade fixtures: (PICTURE CAPTION: Bernie Hurley walks down Main Street with Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti during the 2016 Fourth of July parade in Wheaton.) Bernie the Leprechaun It makes no difference that St. Patrick’s Day was four months ago. For the past 60 years, everyone looks forward to seeing Bernie the Leprechaun at Wheaton’s Fourth of July parade. His real name is Bernie Hurley, and he’s a 94-year-old local man of Irish heritage. “He walks the entire parade in costume. Heat or cold, he’s there. He’s our goodwill ambassador,” said Sherry Krajelis, a parade organizer and assistant director of special facilities. “Everyone knows Bernie.” One year, Hurley wore roller skates. Another year, he rode a scooter (“That was harder than walking! I was sore afterward,” he said). This year, he hopes he can walk the entire two-mile route. “That’s up to the good guy upstairs,” he said with a laugh. “I’m an old gym teacher. So I know that if you keep moving, it helps.” Hurley spent 31 years teaching gym at Hawthorne and Emerson elementary schools in Wheaton, and loves bringing joy to people. “I’m a big showoff, too,” he said. “I’m a teacher, so I love every kid. The good ones, the bad ones and the in-betweens.” He ends the interview by saying, “Stay young! Keep moving! God Bless!”)

DAILY CALLER
— GAO: Obamaphones Fraud As High As 65 Percent – Luke Rosiak  (DIERSEN: What did you do 1980-1997?  I worked for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $94,610-$122,991.)
http://dailycaller.com/2017/06/29/two-thirds-of-obamaphone-recipients-may-have-lied-about-being-poor/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A massive portion of Obamaphone recipients are receiving the benefit after lying on their applications, according to a new 90-page report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO). An undercover sting operation showed ineligible applications were approved 63 percent of the time, and a review that found that 36 to 65 percent of beneficiaries in various categories had lied in easily-detectable ways but were approved anyway. The fraud reached unheard-of proportions because the Federal Communications Commission let the task of screening for eligibility fall to phone companies that profit off of enrolling as many people as possible. GAO undercover investigators applied for free government phones 19 times using criteria that should have been rejected, and “we were approved to receive Lifeline services by 12 of the 19 Lifeline providers using fictitious eligibility documentation.” All someone has to do to apply for free cell phone service is say that they are on another welfare program, such as food stamps or disability, known as SSI. But nationwide, “only 35.5 percent of people claiming eligibility based on SSI could actually be confirmed as eligible,” the GAO found. That means 64.5 percent of people appear to have lied and may not even be poor. The rate at which GAO’s undercover applications were approved works out to a nearly identical figure as the SSI metric. The FCC took applicants at their word and did not consult intra-governmental databases to see whether they were actually on SSI. In Georgia, the percentage who appear to have lied about their SSI status to attain benefits is 79 percent. That national rate of 64.5 percent is three times higher than the next-highest fraud-ridden federal program, the Earned Income Tax Credit, at 24 percent, according to PaymentAccuracy.gov. Yet because the FCC doesn’t run data checks necessary to uncover fraud, it officially reports an improper-payment rate of 0.45 percent — a clearly implausible figure that would make it the second-cleanest program in government. Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri requested the audit after she received a mailer at her home encouraging her to sign up for what it assured was a “free” phone. She called for criminal charges against phone company executives. “Universal service fees” cell phone subscribers pay on their monthly bills supplies the money for the program, formally known as Lifeline, rather than funding from Congress. The Anti-deficiency Act prevents agencies from spending more than funds appropriated by Congress, so the move effectively allowed the FCC unlimited spending. Mignon Clyburn, the daughter of South Carolina Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn, headed the FCC for much of the period scrutinized, and she remains a commissioner. “While the Anti-deficiency Act applies to appropriated funds, since 2004, Congress has exempted the USF from the Anti-deficiency Act,” GAO said. Special interests have aggressively employed a bootleggers-and-Baptists model, with companies who profit greasing the wheels of government with donations and influence-peddling and using poor people as props in marketing campaigns. When Congress considered reforms, phone companies took out daily full-page ads in publications read by Capitol Hill staffers. The wife of the CEO of TracFone, the largest beneficiary of Obamaphones, was a mega-fundraiser for former President Barack Obama. A Republican operative who later worked for President Donald Trump’s campaign took money from phone companies and set up a front group that implied that veterans would die if free phones came with more scrutiny. In an infamous YouTube video during the 2012 presidential campaign, a woman said she would vote for Obama because “he gave us a phone,” adding that “everybody in Cleveland low minority got an Obamaphone.” The cause of the fraud rates, shocking even by federal government standards, was always clear: The FCC allowed companies with a profit motive to sign up as many people as possible to determine eligibility. Phone companies swooped into housing projects in vans with neon flashing lights to register users. A woman approached by one such representative outside of a welfare office told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group the man encouraged her to enroll her two-year-old. The companies weren’t checking eligibility, and the FCC wasn’t ensuring they did or punishing those who didn’t. Additionally, the FCC failed to provide many companies with the intra-government databases that would give them the ability to perform some checks, the GAO found. The program “relies on a ‘pay-and-chase’ model of oversight. ‘Pay-and-chase’ refers to making disbursements on the front end and relying on audits or reviews after the funds have been disbursed to check for any noncompliance,” GAO said. Only no one was doing much checking. “These reviews are fairly limited,” GAO said. “FCC awarded a contract to … improve the oversight and operation of universal service programs. However, FCC officials told us that FCC subsequently terminated the contract and the study was not conducted.” When GAO focused on the program and analyzed data, investigators quickly found numerous red flags, any one of which could have been used to deny eligibility, but no one used them. “We found a total of 5,510 potential internal duplicates whereby the last name, first name, date of birth, and last four digits of the SSN of one record matched another record exactly,” GAO wrote. More than 6,300 recipients were in government databases that showed the phone recipient as being dead. The only available evidence was that the poor didn’t need the program, and it might not have been fulfilling its stated mission. The FCC has declined to assess whether the program actually provides phones to low income citizens even in the face of previous negative audits. For a time, there were more Obamaphones in Maryland than there are poor people in the state. And a Pew Research Center report found that the problem of lack of access to technology is far less than it once was, the GAO noted. The FCC’s own data shows that “millions of Lifeline-eligible households are obtaining voice service without Lifeline,” while the fraud rates show that many of the people who do sign up are wealthier than those who don’t. “While some academic studies have raised questions whether Lifeline is a costly and inefficient means of achieving universal service, FCC has not evaluated the program to determine whether it is efficiently and effectively meeting its goals, as we recommended in our March 2015 report,” GAO chided. Instead, the program is being expanded to include free internet.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Illinois Senate GOP Leader Christine Radogno will resign Saturday – Tina Sfondeles
http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/illinois-senate-gop-leader-christine-radogno-will-resign-saturday/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno on Thursday announced she’s resigning. Radogno — the first female caucus leader in Illinois General Assembly history — will resign as leader and also as a senator on Saturday, the first day of a new fiscal year, and the looming deadline for a budget deal to be reached. “I have done everything I can do to resolve the state’s budget crisis. I will continue to do so for the coming days. But if the solution will not come on my watch, I hope and pray that the Governor, other legislative leaders, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and House can find a path to solve the state’s problems,” Radogno said in a statement. Radogno and Illinois Senate President John Cullerton last December came together to craft the “grand bargain” package to try to end the impasse. While the plan fell apart at times, all measures within the package passed the Illinois Senate. It was Radogno, R-Lemont, who came to Cullerton to try to come up with a plan to try to solve the budget crisis. In her statement, Radogno thanked Cullerton for his “friendship and working relationship.” “Though I leave political office with a sense of sadness and some disappointment, I leave with no regrets. I did my best – that’s all I could do. It has been a privilege to serve. But now I am looking forward to returning to private life and spending time with my family, especially my five grandchildren.” Radogno began her third term as leader in 2013. She has served in the Illinois Senate since 1997 and represents the 41st District in DuPage, Will and Cook counties.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-christine-radogono-retirement-illinois-senate-met-0630-20170629-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Sen. Christine Radogno, the first female legislative leader in Illinois history, said Thursday that she will resign from office effective Saturday. The resignation of the top Illinois Senate Republican comes a couple months after she and Democratic Senate President John Cullerton tried to negotiate an end to the record budget impasse. Those talks fell apart, and Democrats blamed Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, who had been shut out of the talks. “I believe it’s time for a new Senate Republican leader. I have done everything I can do to resolve the state’s budget crisis. I will continue to do so for the coming days,” Radogno said in a statement. “But if the solution will not come on my watch, I hope and pray that the governor, other legislative leaders, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and House can find a path to solve the state’s problems. Radogno, 64, of southwest suburban Lemont, said she is leaving office “with a sense of sadness and some disappointment” but “with no regrets.” “I did my best — that’s all I could do. It has been a privilege to serve. But now I am looking forward to returning to private life and spending time with my family, especially my five grandchildren,” she said. Even before her announcement, behind-the-scenes efforts to replace Radogno were being made by state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, who served as her top deputy in the Senate GOP caucus, and by state Sen. Karen McConnaughay, the former Kane County Board chairwoman from St. Charles, legislative sources said. Talk of Radogno’s decision had begun spreading privately during the closing days of June in the aftermath of months of contentiousness with a Democratic legislative majority and a demanding Republican governor who has extensively used his personal wealth to command loyalty among GOP lawmakers. Radogno found her members’ loyalty to Rauner sometimes created problems with loyalty to her leadership, some GOP lawmakers said privately. That surfaced in attempts with Democrat Cullerton to negotiate an end to the state’s historic budget impasse known as the “grand bargain.” Rauner contended the so-called bargain did not go far enough and Democrats accused him of stripping away votes from a version of the package. Though Radogno has been in the General Assembly for 20 years, a decision to step down had been expected as the grind of legislative sessions, particularly serving in the minority, began to take its toll. Besides the political battles, Radogno also had some personal tragedies during her tenure, including the June 2014 death of her 31-year-old daughter, Lisa. In 2009, Radogno became the first woman to lead one of the four legislative caucuses. She succeeded Frank Watson of Downstate Greenville, who had suffered a stroke. Before running for the Senate, she was a La Grange trustee for seven years. Prior to that, she was a social worker at Mercy Center for Health Care Services. She holds a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170629/BLOGS02/170629827/radogno-quits-as-state-budget-war-deepens
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s a sign of just how bad the state’s budget war has become: One of the few officials widely considered to be someone who could and would compromise has announced her resignation, effective July 1. In a stunning—but not wholly unexpected—development, Sen. Christine Radogno of Lemont said she will step down as a senator and the Senate GOP leader on the same day the state’s new fiscal year will begin, quite likely without a budget in hand. “I have done everything I can do to resolve the state’s budget crisis,” Radogno said in a statement after meeting with her caucus. “I will continue to do so for the coming days. But if the solution will not come on my watch, I hope and pray that the governor, other legislative leaders, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and House can find a path to solve the state’s problems.” She added: “Though I leave political office with a sense of sadness and some disappointment, I leave with no regrets. I did my best; that’s all I could do.” There was no immediate word on a replacement. Her departure clearly will not help resolve a heavily bitter and personal fight between two strong-willed men at the center of the budget battle: Gov. Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Mike Madigan. Along with Senate Democratic Leader John Cullerton, who has denied rumors about his impending resignation, Radogno crafted a “grand bargain” package that represented the only forward movement in years on a budget. While it never did come to a vote, it formed the basis of the budget and tax-hike plan that Cullerton sent to the Senate, and which now is pending in the House. Perhaps Radogno’s announcement will kick something into high gear in the hours that remain before July 1. But the signs at the moment aren’t great.)
