(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lang said some on the Republican side “haven’t committed one way or the other” and attributed that to “people on the far right,” referring to some opposing groups that contend the Equal Rights Amendment would enshrine abortion in the U.S. Constitution and undermine religious freedoms. “It has nothing whatsoever to do with abortion, it has nothing whatsoever to do with gay rights or bathrooms or football scholarships or the draft or anything else that those folks are peddling,” Lang said. “It has to do with giving women equal rights under the United States Constitution. That’s all it’s about.”)
— GOP Rep. But Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS.)

DAILY HERALD
— Estimated tax savings appears to be inflated – Tom Teune, Wheaton (DIERSEN: Government is nasty. Politics is nasty. What is your household income? The Diersen’s household income is far less than $135,000. My Civil Service Retirement System pension is only $51,864 and my Social Security is only $2,064. My critics/opponents who have more income than I do use that to paint me as being a financial failure. My critics/opponents who have less income than I do use that to paint me as being a undeservedly filthy rich.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180507/estimated-tax-savings-appears-to-be-inflated
(FROM THE LETTER: In the Daily Herald’s March 22 issue, Peter Roskam is quoted saying that the median income of a family of four in the 6th congressional district is $135,000. And it stands to save $4,000 in 2018 federal income taxes. My senses told me that Rep. Roskam’s numbers were inflated, so I searched a number of sources and selected the highest 6th District family income given by the federal government’s Census Bureau. The Census Bureau reports the district’s median family income is $98,000. I also calculated the income taxes at both levels and found that a family owning a home with a mortgage would save only $2,000 at Roskam’s suggested median income and only a few hundred dollars at the Census Bureau’s reported median income.)
— Women make up just 11% of the highest paid jobs in corporate America – Jena McGregor (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted a) that instead of me, the Post Office should have hired a woman in 1966, b) that the Post Office should gotten rid of me much sooner than it did so that a woman could have my job, c) that instead of me, IRS should have hired a woman in 1971, d) that instead of me, IRS should have promoted women in 1972, 1973, and 1974, e) that instead of me, GAO should have hired a woman in 1980, f) that instead of me, GAO should have promoted a woman in 1986, and g) that GAO should have gotten rid of me much sooner than it did so that a woman could have my job and my preferred corner office.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— Natasha Korecki will be moving on from Illinois Playbook to take on a new role for POLITICO as a national correspondent. (DIERSEN: Just kidding, but should I apply for her job? If Politico came anywhere close to considering my application, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would come out of their closets and viciously demonize me, viciously denigrate me, and viciously condemn me as being a White supremacist, a Nazi, a KKK member, a hater, a racist, a sexist, a bigot, and even worse things. Who would come to my defense? My critics/opponents have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout and they crow that they can a) destroy any individual, b) destroy any organization, c) destroy any company, and d) destroy any government in Wheaton, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois that they want to.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s truly bittersweet for me. As I told media columnist Robert Feder in his kind writeup, helping launch Illinois Playbook and connecting with readers from across the state has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Not only do we have the best local politics around, our readers are savvy and incredibly engaged, which has made all of this a complete joy. CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Rauner on “unifying” – Rick Pearson (DIERSEN: Are you an elected Republican Precinct Committeeman? I have been one since 2000. Did you vote for Ives? I did. Do you believe that Rauner wants those who voted for Ives to support him? I do not. I believe that Rauner is taking advice from those who tell him that for every Ives voter like me that he drives out of the Illinois Republican Party (IRP), two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten+ Independents, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, etc. will vote for him in the November 6, 2018 election. To dump Ives voters is to dump those who support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and the rest of the planks in the IRP platform. To dump Ives voters is to destroy the IRP.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-bruce-rauner-staff-20180504-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In an appearance on Quad Cities radio, Rauner downplayed any post-primary rifts among Republicans after his narrow victory over state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton last month. Speaking on WOC AM-1420 in Davenport, Iowa, Rauner declared himself a unifier — not just among Republicans, but also with independents and Democrats. “You know primaries are tough. They’re part of the process. I respect the process and now we’re all coming together in the state. We’re unifying all Republicans,” said Rauner, who faces a third-party challenge from Downstate Republican state Sen. Sam McCann and a potential battle over re-electing his hand-picked state GOP chairman. Rauner said his candidacy is one representing Illinoisans against House Speaker Michael Madigan and Democratic governor candidate J.B. Pritzker. “This is not an election that’s really about Republicans versus Democrats. This is about the people of Illinois against a corrupt political machine run by Madigan and Pritzker, and it’s the people against the political insiders,” he said.)
— Rauner’s office doesn’t commit on bill to ban payroll practice known as ‘offshoring’ – Bill Lukitsch (DIERSEN: Since the 1980s, the Democrats who run GAO have done a tremendous amount of offshoring, that is, forcing their employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran a) to take their early retirement “offers” or b) to take regular retirement as soon as they are eligible. My Democrat GAO superiors offshored me to the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) in 1997 when I was 49 years old. So far, in today’s dollars, CSRS has paid me $1,071,856.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE

https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511404951-attorney-disputed-republican-state-central-committee-race-decided-by-party-staffers-with-personal-and-financial-interests-in-the-outcome
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Boulton also refutes Fogarty’s contentions in his April 30 letter that the election procedure “has always been in place” and that this “procedure is fully authorized by both the Election Code and by IRP leadership.” Boulton writes that no such authorization exists in the Election Code, the IRP bylaws, the State Central Committee or the Executive Committee (IRP leadership). “The procedure may have well have been employed before, but it is not properly authorized and stands in contravention of the plain language of the Election Code,” Boulton wrote. “Repetition of an unlawful practice does not make it legal. If such were true bank robbery would be legal today.” The 18 Republican State Central Committeemen (17 if the race in the 15th remains undecided) meet in Springfield on May 19 to organize the party and elect a state chairman. The results in the 15th congressional district could determine the final outcome in that race. Republican sources say that Mark Shaw, chairman of the Lake County Republicans, is mounting a strong challenge to Schneider. In his April 30 letter to Boulton, Fogarty asked Boulton for details of any improper conduct or incorrect votes alleged by Winchester. “Evidence will have to wait for a proper forum,” Boulton wrote in his reply. Sources tell Prairie State Wire that the dispute will wind up in court if the State Board of Elections fails to step in and certify the results. For its part, a spokesman for the board said it has no authority to audit or investigate intra-party elections.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: By the time the loose dogs’ owner retrieved them, Buddy lay bloody and battered on the garage floor of the family home. He died later that day at an animal hospital. Over the next few days, Parry met with animal control officials and Hanover Park police. All offered their sympathy but told her there was nothing they could do to help. Parry wasn’t just devastated. She was determined. That paid off Wednesday, when the Illinois Senate unanimously passed the Justice for Buddy Act. ‘This is wrong’ The legislation, also expected to win House approval and Gov. Bruce Rauner’s signature, allows the designation of someone as a “reckless dog owner” if their dog is deemed dangerous for killing another dog and is found running at large twice within 12 months of being deemed dangerous. If that occurs, the owner would have to surrender their dogs to a licensed shelter, rescue or sanctuary, where efforts would be made to find them new homes if possible. A reckless dog owner also would be prohibited from owning dogs for up to three years. The work that led to the act’s creation began when Parry, unsatisfied with the response she was getting from local authorities, reached out to state Sen. Donna Murphy of Des Plaines and state Rep. Michelle Mussman of Schaumburg. Fighting for the legislation for the past year “hasn’t been easy,” she said. . .The dogs that killed Buddy still live in the neighborhood, and Parry admits it’s tough seeing them in their yard when Buddy is gone. However, she said, those dogs’ owners have been “very kind and remorseful” and have even offered support for the Justice for Buddy Act. “We don’t want dogs to be put to sleep, but we want to educate owners and train their dogs,” Parry said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Students released a list of 47 demands Thursday — the 50th anniversary of the Bursar’s Office Takeover — urging the University to improve campus culture for black students, departmentalize the Asian American Studies and Latina and Latino Studies programs, and provide a smooth transition for food service workers. The list, organized by Black Lives Matter NU, the Latinx Asian American Collective and Students Organizing for Labor Rights, said the students want administrators to “clearly and definitively” indicate within two weeks whether they will fulfill the requests. “We hereby condemn the University’s hypocritical co-optation of the Bursar Takeover Commemoration,” the list of demands stated. “We conclude these demands with the promise that failure to comply and take immediate action in enacting them will result in continuous confrontation and direct action.” University spokesman Al Cubbage told The Daily in a statement that administrators will continue to meet with students and alumni to further understand their points of view and work together. “We agree on the critical importance of these topics, and we also agree they merit further examination and additional solutions, wherever possible,” Cubbage said. “This discourse is fundamental to the dynamic nature of Northwestern.”)

WEEKLY STANDARD
— NASA’s Aging Workforce – HALEY BYRD (DIERSEN: To achieve its Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion quotas, goals, and targets, the federal government has an “up or out” policy for its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran. QUESTION: What frustrates that policy? ANSWER: Budget cuts that limit/stop hiring and/or promotions and lack of young qualified job applicants.)
https://www.weeklystandard.com/haley-byrd/nasas-aging-workforce
(FROM THE ARTICLE: During the early years of NASA’s existence, the majority of hires were individuals who were fresh out of college. People who were already in the workforce had higher-level jobs and were making good money at Boeing and other companies, Launius said, and many of them weren’t jumping out of their seats to become civil servants. So when it came to expanding NASA for the Apollo program, “they typically hired a bunch of new college graduates.” He added that it was not uncommon to see 30 to 35 year olds leading important branches of the agency during the 1960’s. “That same job today is usually filled by somebody who’s 50 years old, because they’ve been on the job a lot longer,” said Launius. “That’s just the nature of the aging of the workforce, I would contend, altogether.” And although there are plenty of people who go to work for NASA today, there aren’t as many opportunities for young professionals. “You’ve got people who are in the workforce already and NASA’s not expanding,” he explained. Young engineers and scientists see adventure in the innovative work being done by the private aerospace sector, and many of the people who would have gone to work for NASA during the Apollo era — “Going to the moon was a cool thing to do,” the historian reasoned — are today finding themselves at companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin. But he argued the trend isn’t necessarily bad news for NASA. “A wealth of experience is a good thing, and a person who’s got that is an asset,” he said. At the same time, however, someone could be stuck in their ways, trying to apply methods from 30 years ago to problems that may be more easily solved by recent technology. “It works both ways. It’s not a good thing or a bad thing altogether.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: When J.B. Pritzker decided to run for Illinois governor, he and Campaign Manager Anne Caprara talked about a problem that had bedeviled Hillary Clinton and, they feared, might imperil his own candidacy. They were worried about deliberately misleading information spreading far and fast online. They were worried about fake news. So the Pritzker campaign hired the data science group Civis Analytics to conduct an in-depth online survey studying voters who had been exposed to fake news. What it found unsettled the campaign: Even attempts to correct the information didn’t fully undo the damage. Worse yet, the damage was even greater for female candidates.)

CHAMPAIGN/URBANA NEWS GAZETTE
— Republicans getting even – Editorial (DIERSEN: From this editorial: “One of the rules of politics is that double-crossers shouldn’t expect favors from those they double-cross.” I should write a book about those who have taken major adverse actions against me since 2000. They include activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consults, etc. in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout and who falsely claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican.)
http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/editorials/2018-05-01/editorial-republicans-getting-even.html
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: One of the rules of politics is that double-crossers shouldn’t expect favors from those they double-cross. A couple weeks ago, Republican state Sen. Sam McCann announced his third-party candidacy in the gubernatorial campaign, joining incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrat J.B. Pritzker. McCann, a nominal Republican who’s long feuded with Rauner and his fellow Republican legislators, has no chance to win the race. But running as the candidate of what he calls the Conservative Party, McCann has a great chance of drawing votes at the expense of Rauner and to the benefit of Pritzker. To say that Republicans were chagrined by McCann’s decision is to put it mildly. If Democrats take back the governor’s office in November — current polling indicates they will — the GOP will look back to McCann’s announcement of candidacy and label it one more nail in Rauner’s political coffin. Further, to say that Democrats were pleased with McCann’s decision also is to put it mildly. In fact, they were delighted. Pritzker immediately welcomed McCann to the race. The multi-billionaire Chicago businessman is clearly operating under the maxim that the “enemy (McCann) of my enemy (Rauner) is my friend,” to the point that he was positively glowing from this exercise in self-interest. That political circumstance — and the hard feelings it generated — have now led to another controversy. McCann’s unhappy colleagues decided to take him at, if not his word, his action that he’s abandoned them. So they’ve abandoned him. State Sen. Bill Brady contends that McCann resigned from the GOP Senate caucus. Consequently, the GOP is no longer providing services to McCann that it provides to members of the GOP caucus. That includes assistance in writing legislation, communications with constituents, keeping track of bills as they wind their ways through the legislative process and providing photographers to take pictures of visitors to the legislator’s office. McCann is now complaining about this act of retaliation, noting that there was no staff photographer to record his recent visit with “a group of Girl Scouts.” McCann asserts that denying him, among other things, pictures with his Girl Scout visitors is “totally unconstitutional.” “I think the taxpayers need to know that … currently, in the 50th District, you are enduring taxation without representation,” he said. McCann not only is complaining about his treatment, he’s threatening to file a lawsuit over it. His legal theory — interesting, but not necessarily persuasive — is that even though he’s a self-described candidate for governor representing the Conservative Party, he’s also a Republican member of the Illinois Senate legally entitled to support services both parties typically provide to members.)

KANE COUNTY CONNECTS
— WHERE DOES PROPERTY TAX MONEY GO? THIS YEAR, 68.6% GOES TO SCHOOLS (DIERSEN: According to your assessor, what is your home worth, how much is your 2017 property tax bill, and what does your property tax money go to? According to my assessor, my home at 915 Cove Court in Wheaton is worth $474,200. According to Zillow, my home is worth $474,533. My 2017 property tax bill is $10,913 (approximately 2.3% of market value) with a $6,000 residential exemption and a $5,000 senior exemption. The property tax goes as follows:

— $7,177 (66%) School District 200
— $1,416 (13%) City of Wheaton
— $1,046 (10%) Wheaton Park District
— $358 (3%) College of DuPage
— $177 (2%) DuPage Forest Preserve
— $163 (1%) School District 200 Pension Fund
— $155 (1%) County of DuPage
— $104 (1%) Milton Township Roads
— $82 (1%) Wheaton Park District Pension Fund
— $66 (1%) Milton Township
— $169 (2%) 7 other taxing bodies

I should write a book about those who hint/imply/argue/shout a) that 915 Cove Court in Wheaton is worth far more than what it is assessed at and b) that I should be paying much higher property taxes; they want to curry favor with the home’s builder and the aforesaid taxing bodies. My wife and I have paid property taxes in Wheaton, in Milton Township, and DuPage County since 1978. However, we have never attended any schools in DuPage County, we have never sent any children to schools in DuPage County, and our use of Wheaton Park District facilities has always been very limited.)

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffreydorfman/2018/05/01/job-guarantee-a-liberal-idea-that-conservatives-may-embrace/#39a93d876fd8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Forget universal health care; that universal basic income, small potatoes. The progressive wing of the Democrat Party is suddenly going all in on a federal job guarantee. Leading a parade of presidential hopefuls, Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Bernie Sanders (S-VT) are eagerly pushing a new federal entitlement program: jobs for anyone. These jobs would offer perhaps $30,000 per year in pay ($15 per hour) and come with full benefits (hello, (near) universal health care). Yet, while the idea starts from the far left, conservatives may soon back this idea because liberals haven’t thought it all the way through. A job guarantee program is really the ultimate work requirement for welfare recipients. The idea of a job guarantee is simple. If you would like a job, the federal government will stand ready to offer you one, with reasonable pay (about double the federal minimum wage) and benefits. Details of whether the job would be near where you live, how skills would be matched between job and worker, and whether the output of these jobs would be needed or have any value at all are still to be decided. However, lack of specifics might not stop this idea, once conservatives see it in the right light.)

The Panetta Institute has been polling CSU Monterey Bay students since the Barack Obama administration and has found young people are increasingly concerned they will not be able to enjoy the American dream or have the same type of life their parents had. Much of the concern is centered around the economy, education and job market — a lot of issues that concern many young adults today. “The fundamental question is will this president or future ones be able to provide the opportunities needed in order to succeed?” said Panetta.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180429/looking-for-a-bigger-salary-these-are-the-companies-with-the-highest-median-pay
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The industries that dominate the top of such a list include biotech and health care firms, technology, finance and real estate, and energy and utilities. Facebook had the highest-paid median employee of technology firms that had filed as of Monday, at $240,430, according to Proxy Insight. The median employee at Valero Energy made $192,837 in 2017. At the real estate investment trust Host Hotels & Resorts, one of the largest owners of luxury and upscale hotels, the median salary is $179,574. The highest median pay in the financial industry, according to Proxy Insight’s data, was at a reinsurance firm rather than a big Wall Street bank. In addition to publishing the CEO pay ratio, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s rule requires companies to disclose the pay of the median employee used in the calculation — determined by statistical sampling or by listing the compensation in the middle after ranking all workers from highest to lowest paid (excluding the CEO) — but they can’t leave out part-timers, the majority of foreign workers or those who only have seasonal jobs. It’s important to note that the companies at the top of the list don’t necessarily have the highest paid employees on average — just who pays the highest at the median. As a result, the numbers don’t tell most people looking to negotiate offers or compare potential jobs much at all. For one, you’d have to be vying for a job in that category — if the job in question is identifiable at all. McDonald’s, for instance, listed the median worker who made $7,017 in 2017 as “a part-time restaurant crew employee located in Poland,” but whoever made $183,304 at Netflix in 2017 is only identified as the “median employee.”)

BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
— Bull’s-eye on AR-15: Popular rifle at center of debate over gun reform Public safety intersects with right to own firearms – EDITH BRADY-LUNNY (DIERSEN: One reason why countries are discouraged from having their citizens carry firearms when they invade America “is that an estimated 300 million guns, including as many as 5 million semi-automatic rifles (are) in the hands of Americans.” That is why (so far) countries like Mexico have not had their citizens carry firearms when they invade America.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: But the removal of one weapon from the market is not the answer, said Stephen Stewart, owner of the Bloomington gun store and indoor shooting range. “Banning this gun isn’t going to do a darned thing,” Stewart said recently, during a demonstration for The Pantagraph that included an hour on the range with a reporter on the operation of one model of the AR-15. Often misidentified as a “machine gun,” the AR-15 is purchased for target shooting, hunting and home defense, said Stewart. The AR-15 was banned for 10 years under former President Bill Clinton’s 1993 assault weapons ban and became a big seller in 2004 when the sales moratorium was not renewed. Stewart said his store could not keep the guns on the shelves, with many buyers picking up the weapons because they feared another ban. Americans, more than residents of any other developed country in the world, are in love with guns — an affection some argue has gone too far. With an estimated 300 million guns, including as many as 5 million semi-automatic rifles in the hands of Americans, serious questions exist as to how any practical proposal to seriously reduce the number of guns can be implemented.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Were they coached on what to say? An estimated 300 migrants were counseled in workshops held in a civic group office at Tijuana’s largest migrant shelter and at an art gallery that once housed a cross-border tunnel used to run drugs into San Diego. Journalists were not allowed to sit-in on the sessions. Lawyers reportedly offered information about the U.S. asylum process while children of the migrants played in the background. Migrants were also warned that they could be separated from their children and face detention if they are allowed to stay in the U.S., according to the report. Reportedly, attorneys met one-on-one with some of the migrants, but did not coach them on what to say, Alex Mensing, an organizer of the effort with the Pueblos Sin Fronteras group, told the Associated Press. “We always emphasize you have to tell the truth,” Mensing said. Central American migrants often cite gang violence as the reason they are seeking asylum.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Are a lot more GOP voters Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) these days? RINOs has long been a name of contempt on the American political right for those who run for office as conservative Republicans and then “grow and mature” in Washington, D.C. by moving to the left. They play to the voters at home in flyover land and then play a different song to The Washington Post when they’re inside the Beltway. However, polling suggests that a new breed of RINOs is emerging, and it has nothing to do with its namesakes of old. These are longtime Republican voters who are identifying less and less with the party’s traditional leadership. Over 60% of Likely Republican Voters have complained in Rasmussen Reports surveys for years that most GOP representatives in Washington are out of touch with the party base. Yes, they’ve been reelected, but in part that’s the power of incumbency. It also reflects the old adage that all politics is local, and these candidates have done a good job assuring the folks back home that they’re one of us.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— GOP chair race in LEGAL turmoil – Natasha Korecki  (DIERSEN: When and how will the Illinois State Board of Elections respond to Winchester’s April 26, 2018 letter SEE:  https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000163-04de-d374-a77b-04df3b5c0000 ?)

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/illinois-playbook/2018/04/27/gop-party-chair-race-in-legal-turmoil-chicagos-new-municipal-id-rosensteins-opioid-crisis-closeup-266385
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Infighting within the state’s fractious GOP has spilled into the race for Illinois Republican Party chairman, raising questions over whether Gov. Bruce Rauner’s favored candidate — Tim Schneider — can win another term and opening a new divide in a state party that just can’t heal itself. Robert Winchester, a 15th district committeeman candidate, a key district in southern Illinois, is disputing the validity of the results of his own election and threatening the Illinois Republican Party with legal action if it continues to identify his opponent, state Sen. Chapin Rose, as the winner. (Quick primer: Rose is pro-Rauner/Schneider while Winchester is poised to back Schneider’s opponent for state party chair). Party response: “A majority of Republican precinct committeemen in IL-15 cast their vote for state Sen. Chapin Rose for State Central Committeemen, which means he is the winner of that election,” Illinois Republican Party spokesman Aaron DeGroot responded by email last night. Except: in documents obtained by POLITICO, Winchester is demanding the party refrain from naming Rose the victor in the 15th district and separately asking the Illinois State Board of Elections to call the race. In a letter addressed to Andrew Collins, the executive director of the Illinois Republican Party, Winchester’s attorney alleges “substantial irregularities in the voting procedures in key counties of the 15th district.” “It is thereby demanded that the IRP take down all of the announcements in which Rep. Rose is identified as either the person receiving the most votes in the 15th district or identifying Rep. Rose as a member of the new State Central Committee,” attorney Stephen Boulton wrote. “If the IRP refuses or fails to cease its actions, Mr. Winchester will be forced to consider appropriate and immediate legal action.” (Read letter here.) (https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000163-04dd-da04-a1fb-14ff7f250001) Boulton works for Peraica & Associates. Tony Peraica is the former Republican member of the Cook County Board whose client is suing Democratic House Speaker Mike Madigan in a separate case. In a separate letter to the State Board of Elections, (https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000163-04de-d374-a77b-04df3b5c0000) Winchester’s attorney argues that validating the outcome is the election board’s duty. Why is this all significant? The outcome of the 15th district race could determine the next statewide chairman and likely the direction of a party that nearly threw out its incumbent governor in March. Enter the newly-elected Republican State Central Committeemen, who are to meet May 19th to vote on the next chairman. Each of the votes is weighted. The district with the greatest weighted vote? The one under dispute in the 15th. While Rose supports Schneider, Winchester had pledged his support to challenger Mark Shaw, who is Lake County’s GOP Chairman. GOP sources tell us that the unofficial breakdown is pretty closely divided between Schneider and Shaw, making the 15th district outcome all that more impactful. Disunity: If Schneider cannot hold onto power, that’s a direct reflection on Rauner’s weakened grasp of his party. That’s a particularly stinging rebuke since Rauner has almost single-handedly funded the Illinois Republican Party apparatus. Even if Schneider wins another term, this latest turmoil only shows there’s a long road to repairing the rift in the party.)

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps claim that the “right” is winning. But the “left” is winning in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Wheaton, and in my precinct. Ever-increasingly, the “left,” that is, Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs make progress in getting rid of individuals, organizations, and companies that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.

Of course, if I sought a government office a political office, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would viciously demonize, denigrate, and condemn each and every step increase that I got while I worked for the Post Office 1966-1969, IRS 1971-1980, and GAO 1980-1997. I remember that before they succeeded in getting rid of him, the IRS manager who promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974 succeeded once in getting me an early step increase.)

— PRITZKER TOUTS LOCAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (DIERSEN: When you were in high school, were you considered to be “college material?” While I attended Crete-Monee High School 1962-1966, I took college preparatory courses notwithstanding the fact that many, if not most, if not virtually everyone at the time viewed me as NOT being “college material.” Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. I just barely made into the upper 20% of my class, my ACT score was only 24, I was draft bait, my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, I had partial red/green color blindness, and I had Osgood-Schlatter disease (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease). Further, my father had fought type 1 diabetes from age 14. I am sure that many thought that I would soon also come down with type 1 diabetes.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: On the importance of electing leaders that support the entire Illinois GOP platform (both economic and social issues), Klaas said, “You can’t be fiscally conservative without being morally responsible.” One of the local leaders I spoke with explained that the SCC vote that takes place every four years is the most important duty they have. Why? Because the state-wide leadership too often recruits the kind of candidates who not only do not support our state party platform, but typically lack leadership abilities and prove it when they get elected and show no capacity to even comprehend the power of their bully pulpit let alone become informed and vote in line with the party’s platform on legislation when they’re in Springfield. Is there a conservative majority on the SCC? It’s very close now, but regardless, a government conservative majority can be accomplished in four years.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Winchester retains counsel to challenge voting procedures in GOP Central Committee race – W.J. Kennedy
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511398631-sources-winchester-retains-counsel-to-challenge-voting-procedures-in-gop-central-committee-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sources have told Prairie State Wire that Bob Winchester has retained counsel to challenge the voting procedures used in his race for Republican State Central Committee in the 15th Congressional District, which the Illinois Republican Party claims was won by Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). The first step in the legal action is expected to be an appeal to the Illinois State Board of Elections, which under law, must certify the votes in party elections. Among other charges, Winchester is expected to challenge the use of votes by acclamation in some counties — a move that gives the candidate with more than half of the votes the entire final tally, which violates party rules and may violate state law. Republican sources said that the Republican Party put up Chapin to run against the incumbent Winchester as punishment for his backing Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the Republican primary against Gov. Bruce Rauner. Winchester, who could not be reached for comment, also opposes the re-election of GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. The party’s 18 central committee people, one representing each congressional district, is scheduled to meet May 19 to elect a state chairman, and sources say that Schneider’s re-election bid is in jeopardy. Mark Shaw, Lake County Republican chairman and central committeeman in the 10th Congressional District, said that people should not jump to conclusions about the outcome of the race between Winchester and Rose. “Just because the party said Chapin won doesn’t mean he won,” Shaw said. “Until May 19, there is no party governing board, and Chaplin can’t just show up on that day and act like he’s a committeeman. The results have to be certified first, and I expect the board will find a lot of irregularities in the voting process.” He added that he knows Winchester as a man of “integrity and honesty” and he would not be taking legal action unless he was convinced that election law procedures were violated. Results of the election show that Winchester received zero votes in nine of 33 counties, including four of the 10 most populated, a result that Shaw and others said would be impossible. Several counties, sources said, failed to even offer Winchester as a candidate for consideration. In Fayette County, home to Randy Pollard, Rauner’s downstate director, Winchester was not presented as an option. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Rose also received zero votes in 13 counties carried 100 percent by Winchester. In all, 22 of 33 counties voted by acclamation, representing 63 percent of Rose’s vote and 59 percent of Winchester’s. County votes are weighted based on their respective turnout in the March primary. Republican sources also said that aides to U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, offering to help him replace Shimkus in Congress when the opportunity presents itself.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Democrats’ deadline to override Rauner gun bill veto comes on same day as Second Amendment rally – Monique Garcia (DIERSEN: Democrats want you to buy pot instead of firearms and ammunition. Needless-to-say, no one who uses pot should be allowed a) to own any kind of firearm, ammunition, or weapon; b) to operate any kind of vehicle or equipment, c) to hold any kind of government or political job or office, d) etc. To use pot is to knowingly and willfully damage your brain.)

— No pay raises for DuPage County Board members but countywide elected officials to get 2% hike – Gary Gibula (DIERSEN: Are/were you accused of being overpaid? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always accused me of being overpaid. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/news/ct-nvs-dupage-salaries-freezes-increases-st-0425-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Board members Elizabeth Chaplin, Tonia Khouri and Brian Krajewski voted against the pay increases. “There’s no justification for giving out those raises,” Chaplin said. “Our county-wides are some of the highest-paid in the state.” “They do a fantastic job, but I think they’re already very well compensated and money is getting tighter and tighter for us,” Khouri said. “We were $3 million short from the state this year, so we need to watch every dollar. For me, it’s an economic issue.” In 2016, County Board members voted themselves 2 percent pay increases, which went into effect in December of that year and again in December of last year. Critics have charged that board salaries are too high in comparison with other nearby counties. Others, however, say the pay is in line with other counties when viewed on a per capita basis. “We understand these are tough times and we don’t feel it’s appropriate to give a pay raise to ourselves,” County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said. “We work very hard, we’ve cut our budget, we’ve cut taxes, we’ve reduced headcount and we’ve got a very compelling story to tell about good government here. We’re not in it for the money, we’re in it to serve.” In other county business, District 1 representative Paul Fichtner has resigned from the County Board due to a job change. Cronin said a replacement will be appointed in two weeks.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Just over a month after her narrow primary election loss to incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, state Rep. Jeanne Ives said she’ll continue to spread her message across the state. “I have a responsibility. I can’t just hide,” said Ives, a Wheaton Republican, during a stop at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel to address members of the Restore Our Constitution political group. “I’m not going to hide or go away. I’m not going to do that.” Ives said she plans to tour the state raising awareness of issues such as pensions and fiscal responsibility, and campaigning for fellow Republican candidates in an effort to win a majority in the state House of Representatives. How she will do the latter remains undetermined. She said she has already endorsed several candidates and given them information to use in political ads and talking points, such as their Democratic opponents’ voting records and ratings with different business groups. Ives said it is likely she will also start to make campaign visits with Republican candidates as the election season heads into the summer.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: State leaders are trying to bring more skilled workers to the state. Governor Rauner and Lieutenant Governor Sanguinetti are touring Europe and the state, respectively, to seek answers on vocational and training programs for Illinois youth. YouthBuild Mclean County in Central Illinois is one program close to home that is currently fulfilling the requirements. “Many decades ago our school system used to offer apprenticeship tracks”, said Lt. Governor Sanguinetti. “Over time we lost that… We need to bring back those types of programs to Illinois.” Governor Rauner is currently in Germany at an apprenticeship program learning the ways of the system and how it functions. Sanguinetti says that a four year program is not for everyone and allowing our youth the right to choose what they want to do at an early age will be more beneficial to their future. “For many of our youth, access and opportunity is not looking very bright,” said Sanguinetti. She went on to say “a place like YouthBuild gives them the tools that they will need to succeed in life in a non traditional way.”)

https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/04/14/lgbt-courses-will-be-added-to-illinois-public-schools-curriculum-if-lawmakers-approve-pending-bill
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What have opponents said? But this is different, opponents said, because it goes against the religious beliefs of other students. Adding LGBT beliefs to public school curriculums would force some students to hear about personal values counter to what they believe, said Ralph Rivera, a lobbyist with the conservative Illinois Family Institute. “Where’s the protection for students and parents who have a religious belief?” Rivera told the Chicago Tribune. “Which has always been the case, this is not a new, avant-garde thing that they find this behavior to be against their religious beliefs and their churches’ or synagogues’ beliefs. No one seems to be mindful of that. They don’t care.” The Illinois Association of School Boards is also leery of the proposal. The board typically opposes most state requirements for schools because they believe districts, not lawmakers, should make such decisions, the Chicago Tribune reported. . .Illinois has a history of supporting LGBT issues. For example: The state approved same-sex marriage before the U.S. Supreme Court allowed it nationwide. Last year, lawmakers approved a measure to allow transgenders in the state to change the sex listed on their birth certificates. A new law plans the “gay panic defense,” which allowed criminals charged with first degree murder to maintain they “acted out of passion after learning their victim was gay or transgender.”)

If I had not been denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. She had less job-related work experience, less job-related education, no professional certifications, and no professional licenses. I had almost 18 years experience working for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325; almost 9 years experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880; three job-related master’s degrees; six job-related professional certifications, and a job-related professional license.)

I worked for a watchdog, that is, for GAO, for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325. Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes dismiss, belittle, badmouth, demonize, denigrate, and condemn that. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180406/ISSUE07/180409942/illinois-needs-government-oversight
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois has more separate units of government than any other state, and too many, like Riverdale’s library, have overseers who would rather hunker down in their bunkers than embrace tax-saving mergers. The job of journalists and watchdogs is to hold government officials and politicians accountable. But with fewer and fewer professional reporters on the case, as print and broadcast media keep shedding staff to cut costs—i.e., Tribune cutbacks—public officials face less and less scrutiny, emboldening them to misbehave with impunity, laws and taxpayers be damned. Riverdale is in a “news desert,” an out-of-the-way place that gets little or no attention from mainstream media unless a murder or riot attracts TV trucks. Wonky issues like a library controversy? Fuggedaboutit! The BGA’s not insulated from these forces. We have limited resources and tend to deploy them on investigations with broad scope and impact. It took Riverdale activists three tries over several months to get us to realize they, too, suffered from government abuse with implications far beyond their town. It’s good they persisted, and the Riverdale library’s transgressions should be investigated by the Illinois attorney general. But sadly, there aren’t enough watchdogs left to shine a light on every Riverdale and hold all their officials accountable, and that should alarm every taxpayer in Illinois.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican candidates are getting ready for this year’s Illinois general election in November. Several candidates met with other party leaders at today’s Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by the Henry County Republicans. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner addressed many GOP supporters at the event. As he runs for re-election, he says he will continue to stand by education reform. . .On Saturday, newly-minted competitor, Democrat Sean Casten, benefited from the lengthy exposure in front of a captivated crowd. When Casten was introduced, he got a standing ovation. “It’s too bad that Peter Roskam is not here today,” Casten said at the forum. “Because I would defy anyone to stand in this room and not be inspired by all of these impassioned young people, their families, and their supporters.” Why wasn’t he there? “Unfortunately Representative Roskam had previous commitments, which we communicated to the student who extended the invitation on the day that he emailed our office,” Roskam spokeswoman Veronica Vera said in an emailed response. “Representative Roskam believes this is an important issue and our office is looking at alternatives to have students from the district meet with the Representative for a productive conversation on this issue.” Roskam’s office said he met with Glenbard North High School students after the Parkland shooting for about an hour.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Another weekend in the Illinois 6th congressional district, where U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) is fighting to keep his seat, meant another packed town hall. This time, school violence was the issue at the forum organized by high school students. Inside of a Glen Ellyn church with a capacity to hold 600, it was standing room only, according to organizers. The large turnout isn’t new for this district. And like so many other town halls held in the 6th over the past year, one thing remained consistent: Roskam was a no-show. — DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps say “As elections near, many older, educated, white voters shift away from Trump’s party.” To “shift away from Trump’s party” is to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, further erosion of the Second Amendment, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and even worse things.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/09/as-elections-near-many-older-educated-white-voters-shift-away-from-trumps-party.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nationwide, whites over the age of 60 with college degrees now favor Democrats over Republicans for Congress by a 2-point margin, according to Reuters/Ipsos opinion polling during the first three months of the year. During the same period in 2016, that same group favored Republicans for Congress by 10 percentage points. The 12-point swing is one of the largest shifts in support toward Democrats that the Reuters/Ipsos poll has measured over the past two years. If that trend continues, Republicans will struggle to keep control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, in the November elections, potentially dooming President Trump’s legislative agenda. The real core for the Republicans is white, older white, and if they’re losing ground there, they’re going to have a tsunami, said Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist who closely tracks political races. If that continues to November, they’re toast.)

https://www.denverpost.com/2018/04/06/as-vultures-circle-the-denver-post-must-be-saved/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: At The Denver Post on Monday, more than two dozen reporters, editors, photographers, videographers, page designers, digital producers and opinion staff will walk out the door. Our marching orders are to cut a full 30 by the start of July. These heartbreaking instructions raise the question: Does this cut, which follows so many in recent years that our ranks have shriveled from more than 250 to fewer than 100 today, represent the beginning of the end for the Voice of the Rocky Mountain Empire? The cuts, backed by our owner, the New York City hedge fund Alden Global Capital, also are a mystery, if you look at them from the point of view of those of us intent on running a serious news operation befitting the city that bears our name. Media experts locally and nationally question why our future looks so bleak, as many newspapers still enjoy double-digit profits and our management reported solid profits as recently as last year. We call for action. Consider this editorial and this Sunday’s Perspective offerings a plea to Alden — owner of Digital First Media, one of the largest newspaper chains in the country — to rethink its business strategy across all its newspaper holdings. Consider this also a signal to our community and civic leaders that they ought to demand better. Denver deserves a newspaper owner who supports its newsroom. If Alden isn’t willing to do good journalism here, it should sell The Post to owners who will. A flagship local newspaper like The Post plays a critically important role in its city and state: It provides a public record of the good and the bad, serves as a watchdog against public and private corruption, offers a free marketplace of ideas and stands as a lighthouse reflective and protective of — and accountable to — a community’s values and goals. A news organization like ours ought to be seen, especially by our owner, as a necessary public institution vital to the very maintenance of our grand democratic experiment.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-met-illinois-conservative-news-20180327-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A copy of the East Central Reporter landed in select mailboxes in 2016 with the look of a typical local newspaper. It had a community calendar. It listed high school sports statistics. And it contained an article about a statehouse candidate’s pitch to voters. But was that story news? Or was it a novel form of political advertising? Recently obtained documents and interviews show that an organization called Think Freely Media helped fund the operation that produced the article for the East Central Reporter’s website. As a nonprofit, Think Freely is forbidden by federal law from engaging in politics, and it has described the articles it funded as news. But State Board of Elections records also show a political committee, Liberty Principles, paid the same private company to publish the story in a print newspaper and mail it. That group, which state law says must spend its money on politicking, has labeled such content political ads. What these organizations have in common is one of the state’s most visible and controversial political figures, Dan Proft. Though Proft is known for backing conservative candidates for office through Liberty Principles, recent tax, business and campaign filings illuminate how other organizations with ties to Proft helped spread his political views through publications that showcase candidates he supports. It’s a situation that encompasses not only ethical questions about a modern tool of Illinois political warfare but also the national discussion over what constitutes “fake news.” Since 2015, thousands of articles have been published in more than two dozen print and online publications tied to Proft, who in addition to heading Liberty Principles has served as a consultant to Think Freely Media. The first articles were produced by a firm run by media entrepreneur Brian Timpone, a longtime friend of Proft’s who has frequently discussed Illinois politics as a guest on Proft’s morning radio show. Timpone’s firm, called Newsinator, also has a history of doing paid political work and offers marketing services to companies under the name Interactive Content Services. After Proft’s political committee paid Newsinator in 2016 to mail print versions of some publications to voters, the state elections board ordered Liberty Principles to identify such materials as political advertising more clearly in the future. But regulators did not impose fines, and since then, records and interviews show, Proft has doubled down on his media venture by teaming with Timpone to start a new private company, Local Government Information Services, that now runs the websites and publications created by Newsinator. (GRAPHIC) The new firm lists 29 websites it controls and 11 print publications, with names ranging from the Grundy Reporter to the North Cook News. The sites typically mix community calendars and local sports coverage, largely computer-generated, with articles that range from statistical dives into local government spending to stories that feature candidates whom Proft’s political committee has supported. The publications’ emergence over the past three years has drawn a range of critics, including Proft’s political opponents in both parties as well as journalists who have worked for traditional news organizations. Among them is Charlie Wheeler, a former longtime Chicago Sun-Times reporter who now directs the public affairs reporting program at the University of Illinois at Springfield. “They purport to be newspapers, but in my judgment they don’t subscribe to the tenets of traditional journalism. They do not provide balanced coverage,” Wheeler said. . .Different views of news. . .Funding a network. . .An ‘electioneering’ paper. . .New company takes over)

The region’s other counties aren’t far behind. The average bill in DuPage County is higher than nearly 98 percent, followed by Kane County and McHenry County (both 96 percent), Cook County (94 percent) and Will County (93 percent). The report covers only counties where there are 10,000 single-family homes or more. In all, the nation has 3,144 counties, or more than twice the number in Attom’s study.
