While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, because I am Republican, White, male, and non-veteran, my Democrat superiors did everything that they could to not hire me, to not retain me, to not promote me, and to get rid of me. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

Naperville demographics show the city is 68.3 percent white, 17.9 percent Asian, 5.7 percent Hispanic, 5 percent black and 3.2 percent two or more races, according to the U.S. Census Bureau in July 2018. “If it was that kind of supremacist city,” says Krishna Bansal, chairman of Naperville Indian Community Outreach, a group formed by late Mayor George Pradel in 2013 along with a counterpart for Chinese outreach, “why would people come here?” . . . Chirico said the city follows a nationally standardized process for hiring police officers and maintains a review board specifically to discuss issues such as inherent bias before making decisions. He said he trusts the hiring process as well as police Chief Robert Marshall’s emphasis on diversifying his force. “It would be really, really hard to make a case that our recruitment process or our hiring process is somehow biased,” Chirico said. “It’s just not.” “We flatly deny and oppose any insinuation that Naperville hires police officers who are not appropriately vetted and highly qualified,” read a statement from city hall. . .Chirico said he is not concerned, saying that if it were a problem, those affected would be talking about it. Statistics provided to the Illinois Department of Transportation show white drivers were pulled over during 63 percent of the 13,342 traffic stops conducted in 2017 in Naperville, and minority drivers were involved in the remaining 37 percent of stops. I am of Mexican-American descent and have lived quite happily in Naperville for over 31 years. I participate in local activities, volunteer in places of need and worship without conflict. I am sure ethnic comments may have been uttered out of my earshot or ignorant individuals made comments to my children, unaware of their ancestry, but overall I believe Naperville has presented itself as a wholesome, kind and generous town. It is unfortunate when a person feels bullied and picked on, but we have to turn the other cheek and not retaliate in kind, as you, Ms. Stava-Murray, seem to do. I suggest you start looking for real estate in Oak Park. It is probably a better fit for you!)

Jeanne Ives of Wheaton says Erica Bray-Parker does not deserve to represent that city. “Erica Bray-Parker should not be elected; make sure she isn’t,” Ives told the DuPage Policy Journal of the Glenbard North teacher and Civics Club instructor now running for Wheaton City Council in District 4. “She is unfit to represent business owners and the respectful, hard-working taxpayers of Wheaton. She is a civics teacher who is not civil.” Indeed, Bray-Parker’s campaign has recently been dogged by controversy, with local business owner Jane Shaw telling the DuPage Policy Journal of rumors she heard about Bray-Parker bullying local business owners into taking down the signs of candidates she doesn’t support. The veteran educator is also accused of having manipulated her students into aiding her and her campaign. Ives argues Bray-Parker is all about special interests, warning voters that if she is elected they face additional taxes, being told what to do with their property and some form of censorship. “Churches beware too, as she has opinions, apparently, about which views of Christianity are best,” Ives added. “When your church wants to expand, would she allow a zoning change or block it with her vote?” Finally, Ives charges Bray-Parker is more than willing to run roughshod over “our Constitutional and God-given natural rights,” adding she thinks Bray-Parker has not shown herself to be inclusive in the least. “Fortunately, the business owner at Wheaton Bowl (one of the owners Bray-Parker is accused of trying to strong-arm) refused to be bullied by her,” she added. “Other businesses, I am told, cowered to her demands—which is why everyone should frequent Wheaton Bowl and tell them you appreciate their common sense and decency.” Ives urged voters to take to the polls in April to reject what she called Bray-Parker’s brand of politics. “There are two seats up for Wheaton City Council at-large,” she said. “Running against ((Bray-)Parker are Suzanne Fitch and Ron Almiron. Even the “respectable” Democrats, exemplified by Hillary Clinton, have a barely concealed contempt for middle America. She, of course, infamously labeled Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables.” But Obama himself earlier let the mask slip, dismissing religion and guns as a false consciousness, to which the working class “clings bitterly” as transferred aggression from their economic and social decline. Perhaps this insulting language is so casual and automatic, because this is also how the Republican Party has treated its voters. Until Trump, the GOP saw itself as one wing of a responsible governing class. All the talk of shrinking the government and the culture war was just overheated rhetoric that no one in power seriously believed. The party’s leadership functioned to divert its voters discontent into an agenda more palatable to the ruling class. Thus, every campaign sounded like the second coming of Paul Revere, but in the end, the practical outcome was some work on the margins related to tax cuts. For issues like gay marriage, abortion, immigration, crime, and affirmative action, the Republican leadership mostly tried to avoid them altogether. After every electoral loss, the solution was to be less divisive and to focus on economic issues. This was the party leadership’s official recommendation following Mitt Romney’s loss in 2012, as if this milquetoast establishment hack’s defeat was the result of him being too conservative. The friction between the coasts and the interior is not merely political; it’s cultural, religious, economic, and demographic. The intensity of the friction has led, in recent times, to the suggestion we may be on the brink of a kind of civil war. We see hints of similar divisions in Europe, where Brexit and the Gilets Jaunes protests are fundamentally populist and have occasioned maniacal responses by the ruling class. Separation Would Be Preferable to the Current Hostilities  One solution proffered from time to time is a peaceful separation. Observers on the Right and the Left have suggested that the rift is simply too deep and serious to be resolved, and that the mutual interest of everyone concerned would benefit by a divorce, whether deemed secession or an invigoration of local autonomy or something else. . .The Left Is Totalitarian By Nature Leftism is not simply one opinion among many. For the Left’s votaries, it’s closer to a religion. It’s not enough that one is himself a vegan, drives a Prius, doesn’t own guns, rejects the traditional family, or anything else that goes with the lifestyle. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Springfield will soon join several Illinois cities that have a voluntary program in which residents can register their private cameras to help out police. Police Chief Kenny Winslow told the City Council this past week that the registration will be available through the Springfield Police Department’s website in February. Residents who own private exterior cameras would enter information, like their address and a way to contact them, into a portal on the website. That information would be uploaded into a spreadsheet, which would plot all of the registered private security cameras on a map. Police officers would have access to this information and would be able to contact camera owners afterward if a crime occurred nearby. “We can send an alert via email or have detectives just call,” Winslow said. Winslow said the camera owners would be able to send in the footage through evidence.com, which is an encrypted hosting site that the city already uses. Or, a police officer could review the footage with the homeowner. Winslow said police are more likely to apprehend a suspect if they get information quickly after a crime. Plus, Winslow said the camera network could act as a deterrent to crime happening in the first place. “It will hopefully lead to more investigatory leads on crimes, or hopefully a better apprehension rate or maybe even a reduction (in crime),” Winslow said. “We just have to figure it out how to better market it to have good participation.”)

And it’s a driving force in how vastly different news consumption habits are and will be for millennials and younger. Older generations seek out news, for example setting aside time to read the morning paper, while millennials’ are more likely to bump into a story on social media. They don’t necessarily spend less time reading news. Some 85 percent of them report that keeping up with news is at least somewhat important to them and 69 percent get news daily, according to the American Press Institute. Blog posts and academic studies beg people to hold off on collecting Social Security until the age of 70 so they can maximize their benefits. There is Bloomberg Businessweek’s article “Not prepared for retirement? Here’s a solution. Don’t retire.” And Inc.’s “Want to Retire Early? Here are 3 Reasons You Probably Shouldn’t.” Few listen. The most common age to file for Social Security is 62. Why? Well, many of these people are not downscaling their professional lives or exiting the workforce entirely because they want to do so. They are likely victims of age discrimination. That’s the searing conclusion that can be drawn from a recently released joint Urban Institute-ProPublica analysis of data from the Social Security Administration and National Institute on Aging’s joint longitudinal Health and Retirement Study. The researchers behind the report found a majority of workers over the age of 50 are likely at some point to be shoved out of their jobs, either via an overt firing or resignation under pressure of demotions, loss of future benefits or deteriorating work conditions. The damage to their bottom line is often permanent. When many find new positions, they are often jobs that are significantly below both their skill levels and previous pay grades, such as the former corporate executive ProPublica discovered working at a print shop, as a bartender, and staffing the front desk at a local gym. Making matters worse: The retirement prospects for many younger baby boomers and members of Generation X look dismal as the shift from workplace pensions to the do-it-yourself 401(k) has left millions of people without the resources to maintain even a semblance of their current lifestyle in retirement. Our history of white supremacist policies is ongoing.” Stava-Murray did not respond to multiple requests from the DuPage Policy Journal seeking substantiation for her comments—any evidence that Naperville ever, or currently has, white supremacist policies. A white supremacist Naperville was news to Mayor Steve Chirico. “I would never characterize Naperville in this way,” Chirico told the Policy Journal, “but I realize that people have many different perceptions and views.” Twenty-three-year Naperville resident Richard Strawbridge said he couldn’t imagine where Stava-Murray’s comments were coming from. “I’m unaware of any so-called white supremacist policies,” Strawbridge, an attorney, said, “and I’m very active in the local community. “In fact,” he continued, “my impression is that the Naperville community as a whole tries to be very fair and inclusive.
