In 1999, I worked with other homeowners in my neighborhood to prompt Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) to provide better protection against storm-caused power outages. ComEd insisted on providing power to my neighborhood from its distant Warrenville distribution center four long miles away rather than from its nearby Wheaton distribution center only two short blocks away. Consequently, my neighborhood needlessly suffered far greater exposure to storm-caused outages. ComEd’s refusal to correct the problem forced me to file a complaint (Docket No. 990063) with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) against ComEd. Ultimately, ComEd began routing power to my neighborhood from its nearby distribution center and power reliability has improved dramatically.)

— Manar complains that nobody outside Cook and DuPage are on ICC (DIERSEN: Have you dealt with ICC? In 1999, I worked with other homeowners in my neighborhood to prompt Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) to provide better protection against storm-caused power outages. ComEd insisted on providing power to my neighborhood from its distant Warrenville distribution center four long miles away rather than from its nearby Wheaton distribution center only two short blocks away. Consequently, my neighborhood needlessly suffered far greater exposure to storm-caused outages. ComEd’s refusal to correct the problem forced me to file a complaint (Docket No. 990063) against ComEd with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). Ultimately, ComEd began routing power to my neighborhood from its nearby distribution center and power reliability has improved dramatically.)

A group of 18 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sent a letter to the committee chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., May 29, 2018, raising concerns over the White House’s refusal to meet with GAO investigators and calling for a hearing on the matter. On May 9, 2018, the GAO General Counsel Thomas Armstrong sent a letter to White House Counsel Donald McGahn expressing concern that the National Security Council and McGhan’s offices repeatedly refused to engage with GAO staff over the course of their investigations. “Over the past year, GAO has requested information and meetings when preparing reports on topics clearly involving White House interests and expertise. These reports concern such diverse topics as the role of the NSC in the coordination of conflict prevention, mitigation and stabilization efforts abroad; Inspector General vacancies; and the cost of presidential travel and security related measures,” Armstrong wrote.)

Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said the executive orders, including the one expediting discipline and firing, erode federal employees’ due process protections. “Rather than improving government efficiency, these executive orders will make it harder to resolve workplace disputes; report waste, fraud and abuse; and ensure a fair and safe workplace for federal employees,” he said. “Instead of trying to erode the rights of federal employees and whistleblowers, the administration should focus on the abuses of Cabinet officials taking charter and first class flights and buying $31,000 dining sets and $43,000 soundproof booths.”)

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/catholic-diocese-banned-gay-valedictorians-speech-so-he-found-a-megaphone_us_5b0c19d3e4b0568a880d85ed
(FROM THE ARTICLE: a statement to The River City News, the Diocese of Covington said that it had the right to review and approve student speeches at graduation ceremonies. The diocese said that two speeches were not submitted for review before the deadline. In addition, the speeches were apparently too “political.” “When the proposed speeches were received, they were found to contain elements that were political and inconsistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church,” diocese spokesperson Tim Fitzgerald said. Holy Cross High School and the Diocese of Covington did not respond to HuffPost’s request for clarification about what parts of Bales’ speech were inconsistent with Catholic teaching. Bales’ mother, Gillian Marksberry, told WCPO that the school didn’t give her child a formal deadline to submit the graduation speech. In addition, she said school principal Mike Holtz had called her last week to remind her that diocesan officials would want Bales to dress in traditional men’s clothing and to refrain from wearing makeup or hairpins. “That was disturbing because in four years I had never received a phone call from the principal,” Marksberry told WKRC. “No one ever reached out to me to help learn about my child.” The teen pledged to continue speaking up about the issues that matter. “I think I’m going to keep fighting for what I believe in,” Bales told WKRC. “I’m going to keep using my megaphone and intensifying my voice.”)

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2018/05/28/fede-m28.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders Friday making it easier for federal agencies to discipline and fire employees. The unilateral moves follow the president’s vows during the 2016 election to “reduce the federal workforce through attrition” and otherwise shrink the number of government employees to their lowest level in decades. The orders will give federal managers the power to fire workers alleged to be “struggling” in their performance after “improvement periods” lasting up to a single month. Previously, workers in such a status were given from 60 to 120 days to improve, depending on the agency. The orders will likewise force government unions to negotiate labor contracts with departments at a faster rate, tie layoffs to performance instead of seniority, charge unions rent for using federal office space, and limit the amount of official time an employee can spend attending to union-related affairs. “These executive orders make it easier for agencies to remove poor-performing employees and ensure that taxpayer dollars are more efficiently used,” stated White House Director of the Domestic Policy Council Andrew Bremberg. Far from the bureaucratic behemoth that conservatives have painted it as, civilian employment within the federal workforce, numbering 2.7 million, has dropped to levels lower than during the 1960s as a result of multiple bipartisan cutbacks over the past quarter century.)

I give credit to Republicans who run for government and/or political offices. Cox and I served together on the Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee (SC). I have never run for a government office, but I did successfully run a) for the Association of Government Accountants Chicago Chapter Executive Committee 1983-1995, b) for Republican Precinct Committeeman every 2 years starting in 2000, c) for American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) Midwest Chapter board of directors 2001-2003, d) ICRC SC 2003-2006, and e) TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman 2005-2011. I ran for the open Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) Treasurer position in 2004. They stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, MTRCC webmaster, ICRC SC member, AAPC Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, etc.)
http://www.breitbart.com/2018-elections/2018/05/27/antonio-villaraigosa-supporting-group-sends-anti-john-cox-mailers-to-republican-voters/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What is surprising is that the mailers are attacking Cox from the right, echoing attacks that have been launched by Cox’s main Republican rival, Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach). The mailers refer to Cox as a “Democratic Activist” and a “Chicago Liberal,” and note that he did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016. (Trump has since endorsed Cox for governor). One mailer is actually designed to look like it comes from Travis Allen. There is an attractive photograph of Allen and his family next to a military aircraft, plus a list of Republican endorsements for Allen. It is only once readers see the fine print of who paid for the ads that the truth becomes clear: the mailers are “Paid for by Families & Teachers for Antonio Villaraigosa for Governor 2018, sponsored by California Charter Schools Association Advocates,” groups that are backing the Democrat. What looks like Republican mailers are actually propaganda placed by Democrats in an attempt to split the Republican vote and create an opening for Villaraigosa to qualify for the general election. Many of the claims by the group against Cox were debunked by the Sacramento Bee: “John Cox did lose 13 campaigns before running for governor, but he isn’t a secret Democrat.” These sorts of tricks are commonplace — and legal — in California, where all is fair in the “jungle” primary.)

In 1987, they got rid of the GAO manager who promoted me to GS-13 (currently $96,403) in 1986 when I was 38 years old, got me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, and hired me in 1980. In 1975, they got rid of the IRS manager who promoted me to GS-9 (currently $55,905) in 1972, to GS-11 (currently $67,638) in 1973, and to GS-12 (currently $81,071) in 1974.) https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/25/jobs/your-job-is-more-intense-your-pay-and-title-havent-kept-up.html

During the 1980s and 1990s, Bowsher had great success in closing GAO’s gender pay gap a) by giving preference to GAO’s employees who were female, and especially to those who were Democrat and/or younger and b) by getting rid of GAO’s employees who were male, and especially those who were Republican, White, older, and/or non-veteran.)

To keep their jobs and to get promoted, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government focused on getting rid of federal employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last Sunday The Chronicle of Higher Education published a special report that delved into this debate. One of the stories described what was happening at the flagship campus of the University of Illinois and at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., casting these developments as different harbingers for higher education. Illinois is pairing certain majors in the liberal arts — for example, anthropology and linguistics — with computer science. Assumption is doing away with a host of traditional majors in favor of new ones geared to practical skills. Goodbye, art history, geography and, yes, classics. Hello, data analytics, actuarial science and concentrations in physical and occupational therapy.)

SACRAMENTO BEE
— John Cox did lose 13 campaigns before running for governor, but he isn’t a secret Democrat – ALEXEI KOSEFF (DIERSEN: Have you ever ran for a government or a political office? Back then, as it continues today, MTRCC members who reject planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform, who blame me for all defeats that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000, who focus on destroying those who they cannot manipulate/dominate, and/or who are operatives or dupes for those who I have sued went negative big time and got all but 13 MTRCC members to vote against me. They stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, MTRCC webmaster, ICRC SC member, AAPC Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, etc.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s true that Cox that has repeatedly and unsuccessfully tried to break into politics. But the ad gives an inflated sense that he has Democratic leanings. Cox, who got his start as an attorney in Illinois, moved to California in 2011. He no longer practices law, though still has an active license in Illinois. He grew up in a Democratic family in Chicago and ran, at the age of 20, to be a delegate for the 1976 Democratic convention. It was the first in a string of races he would lose. Cox has said he was drawn to the GOP in the 1980s by President Ronald Reagan. He has pursued half a dozen failed campaigns for office as a Republican, including for Congress in 2000, U.S. Senate in 2002 and 2004, Cook County Record of Deeds in 2004, Illinois Republican Party chairman in 2005 and U.S. president in 2008.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Republican Evans would have Democratic Rep. Mike Halpin in November should he remain on the ballot. But Mielke and several party officials this week sought the suspension of Evans’ campaign after a background check uncovered a raft of charges related to domestic violence stretching back decades. While most were dropped, an Indiana judge issued a warrant for Evans arrest after he failed to appear for a probation hearing. In 2009, Evans’ wife filed an emergency order of protection. Evans’ history is clearly problematic, if not troubling. Mielke was right to try to expunge him.)

Jennifer Horn, former state party chairman, was excluded from participating in the state party convention over the weekend on a technicality. She had sought to amend the party’s platform plank on marriage, which states that party members: “Recognize marriage as the legal and sacred union between one man and one woman as ordained by God, encouraged by the state and traditional to humankind, and the core of the family.” Horn also wanted to change the party’ support for “traditional families” to “nurturing families,” according to The Union Leader. Horn has recently moved from one ward in Nashua to another, and on that basis convention delegates meeting in Meredith voted to exclude her from taking part in the meeting, according to The Union Leader.)

https://www.theknifemedia.com/world-news/elon-musk-plans-media-credibility-site-medias-response-may-support-argument/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Elon Musk tweets about media, creating a site to rate journalists On Wednesday, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “The holier-than-thou hypocrisy of big media companies who lay claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie, is why the public no longer respects them.” Musk later tweeted, “Going to create a site where the public can rate the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication. Thinking of calling it Pravda ….” . . . The media’s response to Elon Musk’s comments may have done more to support his argument than to refute it. In many cases, news outlets distorted their coverage with sensational language, one-sided reporting and faulty reasoning. This is reflected in The Knife’s objectivity ratings, which found The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today scored between 35 and 42 percent out of 100. These low scores may highlight the importance of applying standards that can hold news outlets accountable for distorted reporting. There are four parts to The Knife’s ratings — spin (the amount of subjective and dramatic language in an article), slant (how much an article supports a single viewpoint), logic (the amount of faulty reasoning in an article), and data (inaccuracies and missing information). Below we’ll examine how spin, slant and faulty reasoning contributed to the overall objectivity ratings for these outlets.)

— Rauner’s ‘GOP Unity Week’ Fail – Rich Miller
https://capitolfax.com/2018/05/24/live-session-coverage-350/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ives Calls for Party Leadership to Resign, Party Leaders Fight About Unity in First 2 Days This week was supposed to be a celebration of unity for Governor Bruce Rauner after he surrendered full control of the Illinois Republican Party, but it quickly fell apart for the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent. On Monday, state Representative Jeanne Ives called on the entire Republican Party leadership to resign. Then, local Republican leaders Pat Brady and Dan Proft fought in a panel titled “The Future of the Republican Party in Illinois” yesterday, even though Rauner is a sitting governor up for re-election. At one point, Proft sarcastically stated: “Right, but we can expect to unify the party and present an attractive offer when Pat is running around saying John Tillman, Dan Proft, everyone that disagrees with me is a hater, and just dismissing all the policy concerns of the conservative base of the party and telling everyone to get out. I mean, if we’re all unified, Pat, I’m sorry I guess this lunch is dismissed because we have nothing to talk about…We are on our way to super majorities and Republican Governors as far as the eye can see, and anyone who believes that please feel free to leave and get on with your day.” It did not appear that anyone left. “Bruce Rauner’s party cannot even last a day pretending like they’re unified without falling into chaos,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “After 48% of Republicans voted to kick Rauner out, it’s not surprising that the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent is finding it impossible to put his party back together.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago Public Schools’ inspector general is calling on the school district to stop offering a free full-day Montessori preschool to students from the richest neighborhood in the school district. Preschool in Chicago is typically only free for low-income students. But the tuition-free preschool at Oscar Mayer Elementary School in Lincoln Park almost exclusively serves students who live in a neighborhood of mostly upper-income homes. CPS spends about $700,000 a year on the preschool, according to a report released Wednesday. A comparable private preschool could charge parents as much as $15,000 a year. CPS Inspector General Nicholas Schuler said he was “incredulous” that there would be “this perk, for one neighborhood school, as opposed to all other schools.” The average median family income in Mayer’s attendance area — nearly $178,000 a year — is the highest of any attendance area in CPS, an analysis by the IG’s office determined.)

The Prairie Path Park is in my precinct. I knew the woman and her husband who donated the park to the Wheaton Park District. Webster, McGrath & Ahlberg currently is working on the Jefferson Avenue, Madison Avenue and Prairie Path Park Flood Prone Area Study, set for completion in July.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The message is very clear. Speak out against the Speaker and people loyal to him will come after you.” Those words, spoken Tuesday by Democratic state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, sadly sum up Michael Madigan’s despot-like reign over Illinois politics for more than three decades. Madigan, of course, is the “Speaker” in Cassidy’s comment. He has been Illinois’ House speaker for all but two years since 1983. He’s also been the chairman of the state Democratic Party since 1998, a position Democrats re-elected him to just last month despite a #MeToo harassment scandal swirling within his political organization. As the longest-serving legislative leader in American history and the longest-serving head of a major political party in Illinois history, Madigan wields more power than any other elected state official in the country and more than any single individual should be allowed to have. He controls the party’s campaign war chest, so he decides which Democratic candidates to fund in primary elections. He controls the rules for moving legislation through his chamber, so he decides which bills get to be voted on and which do not. He controls the legislative redistricting process, so he manipulates general elections. And because of all that, he controls the members of his Democratic caucus. Cross him, and you probably should start looking for something else to do.)

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/nurse-sued-hospital-retaliation-awarded-28-million-55399009
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A jury has ruled that a Boston hospital retaliated against a Haitian-American nurse who stood up for a black colleague and has awarded her $28 million. Gessy Toussaint’s attorney described Wednesday’s verdict against Brigham and Women’s Hospital as “monumental.” The Boston Globe reports that Toussaint also had accused the hospital of racial discrimination, but the jury didn’t find proof of that claim. Toussaint says the retaliation started after she defended another Haitian-American nurse, Nirva Berthold, who also is suing the hospital. Berthold says she was denied a promotion because she’s black. That claim is still pending. The hospital says it plans to appeal the retaliation ruling but is pleased with the decision on Toussaint’s discrimination claim.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Legalize pot, but don’t allow it everywhere – Tyler Cowen, Professor of Economics, George Mason University (DIERSEN: If you promote pot, you promote destruction. If the destruction-promoting Democrats legalize pot for recreational use in Illinois, at a minimum, municipalities should be allowed to ban the sale of pot in their jurisdictions, like they can ban video gambling. If you agree with me, please urge the leaders of your municipality and potential candidates for leadership positions in your municipality to pledge to ban the sale of pot in your municipality. I will lead the effort to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton like I led the efforts to ban video gambling in Wheaton in 2009 and to get Comcast to carry Fox News Channel in Wheaton in 2002. If you live in Wheaton, please contact me ASAP about urging City of Wheaton officials and potential candidates for leadership positions in Wheaton to pledge to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton.)

— Rauner administration mismanaged patronage positions – Kim Geiger (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always promoted patronage. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

DAILY TORCH
— Federal civil service abuses bigger than just the VA – Natalia Castro (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who hint/imply/argue/shout that the federal government took the following adverse actions against me solely because I was a BAD employee: My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

I am a Trump supporter, Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, old (born in 1948), rich, gun owner, German American, draft avoider, my ancestors have been in America since 1844, federal retiree, former union member, childless, pet-less, not a church member, not a church goer, I do not give money to a church, etc.)

— Former Exelon chairman John Rowe threatens GOP over DACA – NATASHA KORECKI (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, Republicans should never seek or accept money to act against the Republican Party platform. If someone claims to be a Republican, but gives money to Republicans to act against the Republican Party platform, they are not Republican. They are Democrat plant, Libertarian plant, Green plant, or RINO. Needless-to-say, Republicans should never seek or accept money to act against the Republican Party platform. Needless-to-say, Roskam should not seek or accept any money from Rowe.)
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/23/dreamers-republican-donor-threaten-603428
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rowe is especially critical of Rep. Peter Roskam, who is locked in a competitive race — and represents a suburban Chicago district that has the largest DACA population of any Illinois member, according to the Illinois Business Immigration Commission. “I have been actively engaged with the community and various stakeholders and I will make a decision on the right course based on what’s in the best interest of these DREAMers and our nation’s border security,” Roskam said in a statement. “My hope is that Congress will reach a bipartisan agreement to protect children from deportation who were brought to the United States without documentation.” Former Illinois House GOP Minority Leader Tom Cross, who is also calling for a DACA resolution, said hitting lawmakers in their pockets may be the best way to get their attention. “John is a significant donor and has been heavily involved in the Republican Party both in the state and nationally,” Cross said. “There are all kinds of ways to impact members of Congress and the General Assembly. I’m not a donor. I was a recipient as a legislative leader and it can be impactful.”)

While I worked for the federal government 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, virtually all of my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were Democrats and/or veterans. My superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates who were Democrat hinted/implied/argued/shouted at my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates who were veterans a) that I am a draft dodger, patriotic hypocrite, coward, and even worse things and b) because of the aforesaid, I should pay the price of Affirmative Action, Diversity, Inclusion, budget cuts, etc.)

Education Department investigates scholarships, networking for women at Yale, USC – Melissa Korn (DIERSEN: Democrats use Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion to get rid of Republicans. To give preference to one group is to discriminate against another group. The presumption is that the majority discriminates against the minority. Because of that, according to Democrats, government should discriminate against those who are male, White, older, Protestant, German American, Republican, and/or rich. In what ways are you a minority?
