http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-marijuana-legalization-bill-hearing-met-20170419-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The hearing generated some hard feelings by marijuana opponents who weren’t allowed to testify. Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel represented the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, which opposes the measure. “I don’t know why they didn’t reach out before this and ask us for our opinion and see if there’s some compromise,” he said, “because our officers are the ones doing the enforcement.” . . . Some Republican lawmakers on the panel expressed concerns about public safety and how the industry operates largely with cash, because federal regulations discourage normal banking and credit card use. Peter Bensinger, a former administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, cited federal statistics showing marijuana use among teenagers initially increased 20 percent in the first two years after legalization in Colorado, compared to the two years prior. Bensinger also cited a near-doubling of emergency department visits and an increase in traffic death related to marijuana.)

— Homeland Secretary John Kelly: Marijuana is a ‘Dangerous Gateway Drug’ – ANDREW RAFFERTY
http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/homeland-sec-kelly-marijuana-dangerous-gateway-drug-n747901
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly Tuesday called marijuana a “gateway drug” and vowed his agency will uphold federal laws against its possession, a sterner message than he delivered on the topic just last week. “Let me be clear about marijuana. It is a potentially dangerous gateway drug that frequently leads to the use of harder drugs,” Kelly said during a speech about his agency’s mission at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. “Its use and possession is against federal law and until the law is changed by the United States Congress, we in DHS, along with the rest of the federal government, are sworn to uphold all the laws that are on the books,” he added.)

Yes, Safer. It’s hard to imagine how adding more drugged drivers on the roads and putting more drugs into the hands of our children could possibly make Illinois safer. The bills before the General Assembly would legalize the possession of up to 28 grams of marijuana and allow facilities to sell marijuana products for adults over 21 and tax and regulate those sales “in a manner similar to alcohol.” “Safer?”  Hardly.  We just have to look to the examples of Colorado and Washington State to see the consequences.  Both states legalized marijuana for recreational use in 2013 and 2012 respectively. Colorado now has more pot shops than Starbucks and McDonald’s combined. . .You, too, can help! Call your state representative today and urge him/her to oppose any attempts to legalize or decriminalize marijuana. CLICK HERE. Your rep will be listed as the last entry on the page, once you fill in your zip code and address. Simply click on his/her name. You may also want to fill out an opposition slip to this bill. The proponents are. A hearing is being held (AT NOON) on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017. It’s easy if you follow these steps.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It is hard to have the same feelings, though, toward the 40% of undocumented immigrants who came here on a plane, willfully overstayed their tourist visas, then hunkered down and waited for the next round of legalization. And I have some animus toward our dysfunctional immigration system that punishes (by deportation) undocumented immigrants but completely lets off the hook their partners-in-law-breaking, the businesses and individuals that have used their cheap labor over the years. Fact is, if E-verify had been strictly enforced all these years, Trump’s proposed wall would have been rendered unnecessary.)

The filing shows the Rauner camp’s biggest recent expenditure — more than $338,000 — went to a New York-based company called Project Applecart. (See Rauner’s filing). http://www.wkow.com/story/35158969/professor-sues-wal-mart-over-clean-toilets-description
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Montana State University professor is suing Wal-Mart for libel after he says an employee at the Bozeman store listed his occupation on a fishing license as a “toilet cleaner.” Gilbert Kalonde, assistant professor of technology education at MSU, filed the suit this past week in Gallatin County District Court. Kalonde is seeking unspecified damages. Wal-Mart spokesman Ragan Dickens told The Associated Press: “To our knowledge an administrative process to resolve this with Dr. Kalonde is ongoing. We’ve not been served with the lawsuit, but we take the claims seriously and will respond appropriately with the court.” According to the complaint, Kalonde bought a state fishing license in April 2015, showing the Wal-Mart employee identification of his employment at MSU. But the Wal-Mart employee entered “clean toilets” into the state database as Kalonde’s occupation. The suit contends Wal-Mart exposed Kalonde to “hatred, contempt, ridicule” through the incident.)

NBC5
— VERY SAD: Protesters Gather in Chicago, Calling on Trump to Release Tax Returns  (DIERSEN: In 1977, in connection with Money Magazine doing a “One Person’s Finances” article on me, I gave Money Magazine copies of my 1972-1976 federal income tax returns. When Money Magazine published its 4-page article on me in its February, 1978 issue, it because clear that the Democrats at Money Magazine selected me for the article because they wanted to and because they did a) foist negative government employee stereotypes on me and b) paint my education deductions as being improper.  They described my job duties as an IRS Revenue Officer and the graduate business courses at Loyola and the graduate accounting courses at DePaul that I had deducted purposely to make it look like the courses did not relate to my job duties and they did not help me carry out my job duties. They implied that the courses qualified me for “a new trade or business” and that I took the courses to get a job in the private sector.  The Democrats at IRS disallowed all the courses notwithstanding the fact that IRS encourages its Revenue Offices to take graduate business and accounting courses and my Loyola and DePaul graduate school applications clearly showed that I wanted to take the courses to help me carry out my job duties at IRS.  I took IRS to Tax Court pro se and won a split decision.  The Democrats at Money Magazine and the Democrats at IRS would not have done the aforesaid to me if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, and/or a veteran.)

— Naperville taxpayers deserve an explanation for nature center flooding – Editorial  (DIERSEN: What factors increase the likelihood of your basement flooding? Factors for 915 Cove Court in Wheaton include the subdivision being built in a watershed area and a former septic field, the tremendous amount of surface and subsurface storm water that flows onto the lot during and after heavy rains, the inadequate number of storm sewer inlets in the subdivision, the disruption, obstruction, and improper connection of 6″ and 4″ subterranean drainage lines when the home was built, the pouring the foundation walls on cracked footings, the improper installation and intentional blockage of exterior foundation footing tiles, the installation of only one sump pump when there should have been two or even three or even four, the many long and wide cracks in the basement floor, and the fact that all the storm water that gets into the storm sewer system on the lot is limited to the capacity of just one 4″ pipe.  What factors decrease the likelihood of your basement flooding?  For 915 Cove Court, they include the installation of steel reinforcement rods in foundation walls, the installation of interior footing tiles, my paying $900 when the home was built in 1984 to have all nine of the home’s downspouts directly connected to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my installing a backup sump pump, my unobstructed and properly connecting the aforesaid subterranean drainage lines to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my paying for unobstruction (the removal of stones) from some of the exterior footing tiles, my adding hundreds of feet of French drains and many storm sewer inlets on the lot and connecting them directly to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my properly sealing the many long and wide cracks in the basement floor, my paying for conversion to an overhead sewer system before the basement was finished in 2005, and my paying for a 20-W whole house natural gas backup electric generator for the home.  Since 1984, because of Wheaton’s failure/refusal to assure that building codes were enforced when the subdivision was constructed and 915 Cove Court was built, I have been forced to spend many thousands of dollars and many hundreds of hours of my labor to stop basement flooding.)

ILLINOIS NEWS NETWORK
— Illinoisans pay more than 2 percent of home’s value in property taxes – Brendan Bakala  (DIERSEN: 2015 property taxes ($11,059) that I paid last year for 915 Cove Court in Wheaton were 2.6% of the home’s market value ($434,280) as determined by the assessor.  According to the assessor, the home’s value increased $20,940 or 4.8% last year.  It would be interesting to see what my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would do if my wife and I listed the home for sale.  Would they stress the home’s positives to get someone to buy it right away to get rid of me or would they stress the home’s negatives to discourage/reduce/stop any potential offers to punish me?)

Figuratively, if not literally, they have condemned me to HELL.  Beyond hypocritically, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in Wheaton and in Glen Ellyn condone if not promote booze, gambling, pot, and/or other vices.  They talk and act like they are religious so that they can have license to sin.)

— Trump doesn’t know much about history. It’s making his on-the-job training harder. – James Hohmann  (DIERSEN: What do you know much about?  I know much about auditing.  I worked for GAO for almost 18 years 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $94,610-$122,991. They hint/imply/argue/shout that because we gave up trying to have children, because we did not adopt, and because we did not become foster parents, we are nasty selfish filthy rich DINKs (dual income, no kids) and even worse things, and therefore, we can and we should pay more real estate taxes.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20170414/news/170419281/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A property tax mix-up involving new Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 board member Anisha Patel’s home resulted in her family saving more than $12,000 by paying taxes to the wrong school district since at least 2008. A Daily Herald analysis of property tax records shows the Patel family paid about $44,000 in taxes to Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 since 2008 but should have paid closer to $56,000 during that time to District 25. Researchers at Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office discovered Patel’s home was wrongly listed within District 59’s taxing boundaries even though Patel sends her children to schools in District 25. The mistake came to light after Patel won election to the District 25 board April 4. Patel and owners of two neighboring homes — and ultimately their property tax bills — are affected by the revelation.)
