— Don’t blame workers for state’s financial problems – Mike Newman, deputy director, AFSCME Council 31 (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, while I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the Democrats who ran GAO blamed GAO’s problems on its employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who they had not promoted to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. They certainly blamed me for GAO’s problems a) because they forced me to take a downgrade from GS-12 Step 5 (currently $91,880) to GS-9 Step 10 (currently $72,677) to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old, a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars, b) because they did not promote me to GS-13 until 1986 when I was 38 years old, and c) because they never promoted me beyond GS-13. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)

— The Trump trap – Republicans duck president in key House races
https://www.politicususa.com/2018/10/17/special-report-the-trump-trap-republicans-duck-president-in-key-house-races-2.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Six-term Representative Peter Roskam has a good sense of how voters in Illinois’ 6th Congressional District feel about the president. Despite re-electing the Republican congressman in 2016, they backed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over Trump by nearly 7 percentage points. The district typifies the battlegrounds where Republican candidates face anti-Trump headwinds: a fast-growing suburb west of Chicago with a median income near $100,000. Roskam has made no statements of support for Trump on his website or in posts this year to his social media accounts. He acknowledges that associating himself with the president might do more harm than good. Having Trump campaign for him in the district “obviously wouldn’t be helpful,” he said in an interview. Roskam has criticized Trump’s tariffs on imported goods and has decried the administration’s separation of immigrant children from parents. After Trump held a July press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin and refused to condemn Putin for interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, Roskam called Trump’s performance “an affront to American democracy.” But Roskam notes that he also backs the president on issues important to pro-Trump voters, such as raising military spending and lowering taxes. In an August tweet, Roskam described as “absurd” a statement by his Democratic opponent comparing Trump with al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. “This district is discerning,” Roskam said, and voters want a candidate who will represent their interests independent of the president. But Roskam’s reluctance to embrace Trump isn’t enough for some of the anti-Trump Republicans he’s trying to capture. “Peter Roskam has distanced himself from Trump, but he doesn’t stand up to him,” said Bill Wentz, 73, a lifelong Republican and former federal government lawyer. Roskam hasn’t done enough to fight the president on economic policies that Wentz says undermine traditional Republican support for free markets by picking “winners and losers.” He also is uncomfortable with Trump’s failure to fully embrace U.S. intelligence agencies’ finding that Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. elections. Wentz’s answer: vote for Roskam’s Democratic opponent, Sean Casten.)

October 12 Evening Edition

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Trump looms large as Rep. Peter Roskam fights for his political life against Sean Casten – Patrick M. O’Connell, Mike Riopell (DIERSEN: This article includes a report on what Roskam said and on what others said concerning Roskam at the Milton Township Republican Central Committee’s (MTRCC) outstanding meeting Wednesday evening, October 10, 2018, at the Wheaton Bowl Banquet Hall. 15 candidates were at the meeting – 1 for a federal office: Peter Roskam; 5 for state offices: Peter Breen, Mike Connelly, Amy Grant, Jay Kinzler, and Seth Lewis; eight for county offices: Grant Eckhoff, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeff MacKay, Kevin Wiley, Karen Wilson, Chris Zaruba, and Jim Zay; and 1 for a municipal office: Suzanne Fitch. State Representative Jeanne Ives announced that she is circulating petitions for Wheaton mayoral candidate Phil Suess. Other meeting attendees included Ron Almiron, Roger Bohn, Lori Carlson, Joe Caruso, Bob Cherry, Jeff Cooper, Lynn Crane, Flo Dangelo, Tim Elliott (DuPage County Board), Sal Falbo (Milton Township Trustee), Mike Formento, Hide Holan, Babette Holder, Marty Keller (MTRCC Vice Chairman), Bob Krzyzewski, Larry LaVanway, Alex LeVan, Chris LeVan (MTRCC Chairman and Milton Township Assessor), Carl Lofgren, Paula McGowen (DuPage County Regional School Board Member), Bobby McNeily, Ron Menna, Dave Molitor (Milton Township Trustee), John Monino (MTRCC Secretary and Milton Township Trustee), Gary Muehlfelt (Milton Township Highway Commissioner), Barb Murphy (DuPage County Republican Party Chairwoman), Yadav Nathwani (MTRCC Treasurer and Milton Township Trustee), Nicole Prater (Winfield Township Republican Central Committee Chairman), Mary Rash, Pat Ryan, Janet Shaw, B.J. Slinger, Chuck Smith, and Tim Whelan (DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner). I have been a MTRCC member since 1999, and since then, I have had the best MTRCC meeting and MTRCC fundraiser attendance record. In 2002, I got MTRCC to begin holding its monthly meetings at the Wheaton Bowl, and MTRCC has met there ever since. In 2000, under MTRCC Chairman Randy Hultgren, I published MTRCC’s first website and I served as MTRCC’s webmaster 2000-2004 and 2008-2010. Both Hultgren and Roskam endorsed me when I first ran for Precinct Committeeman in 2000. Since 2000, I have included reports on MTRCC meetings and fundraisers in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-peter-roskam-sean-casten-illinois-6th-20181011-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam rallied die-hard Republicans in a private room at the Wheaton Bowl’s banquet hall on Wednesday, Ed Raab was outside keeping watch over the check-in counter, the clatter of pins echoing across the lanes. “If I wasn’t working,” Raab said, “I’d be right in there with them.” Roskam shook a few hands, and chatted with campaign volunteers, local precinct committeemen and DuPage County candidates before he strode to the podium for a short speech. “I’m incredibly energized by this campaign,” Roskam said. “I’m incredibly heartened by all of your support. … Now is the time for us to press forward.” Behind him, next to stacks of yard signs, was a lifesize cardboard cutout of President Donald Trump flashing a thumbs-up. Someone had placed a red “Make America Great Again” cap atop the cardboard Trump’s head. . .To win, Roskam likely needs to strike a balance between keeping Trump supporters on board, but also preventing independent and centrist Republican voters from abandoning him even if they don’t like the president. “The people in this district, I don’t think they’d do that,” said Raab, who credited the biggest take-home pay he’s ever had in 42 years working at the bowling alley to the Republican tax overhaul Roskam championed. “I think they’re pretty true to the people they’re backing.” . . . “The reason the national Democratic Party believes that Congressman Roskam’s district is in play is solely based on President Trump,” said Kirk Dillard, a former DuPage County Republican chairman, state senator and Illinois governor candidate. Casten has tried to get into a position to capitalize, calling Trump the “worst president of our generation.” He raised twice as much money as Roskam last quarter, his $2.6 million buttressed by millions of dollars in advertising from a group backed by House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. The latest spots hit Roskam over taxes and health care, saying it’s time he “checked out of Congress.” . . . “Peter wins close races because he is an exceptionally hard-working candidate, incredibly articulate speaker and has a volunteer base of dedicated individuals second to none,” Dillard said. Since that election 12 years ago, Democrats have made inroads in Roskam’s home base of DuPage County. President Barack Obama won the county twice, and the prosperous patchwork of suburbs recently has sent two Democratic state lawmakers to Springfield. Babette Holder, a Republican committeewoman in Wheaton, said the Trump factor matters “a lot” in this race. “I’ve never seen a midterm like this before,” Holder said. “I think it’ll be a big challenge this time.” But her hope is that when voters examine the issues, they’ll turn to Roskam, who she said breaks from the party and the president when necessary. “I am worried,” Holder said, “I’m not going to lie to you and say I’m not worried. It’ll come down to turnout.” . . . At the bowling alley on Wednesday, Raab said Roskam isn’t perfect, but he’s still preferable to the alternative. “He’s done some things I don’t agree with, but I like him a lot better than his opponent,” Raab said.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— In debate with J.B. Pritzker, Gov. Bruce Rauner says illegal immigration contributes to Chicago gun violence – Rick Pearson, Mike Riopell (DIERSEN: Those who want Rauner to lose want Rauner to talk like Pritzker does about illegal immigration. Pritzker says illegals “are good for the economy of the state of Illinois” and “that what we need to do is protect the immigrants that are here in our state. We have immigrants here who are not protected, under attack by President Trump. He (Rauner) stands with President Trump on this. I do not.”)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-illinois-governors-race-debate-rauner-pritzker-20181009-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner and challenger J.B. Pritzker clashed over immigration and Chicago violence Tuesday, with the Republican chief executive alleging that immigrants living illegally in the state are a factor in the city’s crime problem while the Democrat said they contribute to Illinois’ economy. . .Rauner, who has been trailing Pritzker by double digits in independently conducted polls, indicated the need to continue to heal a core GOP constituency, social conservatives, with his latest remarks on immigration. Social conservatives have been upset with Rauner’s signing of laws that expanded immigration, abortion and transgender rights. Rauner sought to make clear that he signed legislation preventing law enforcement from stopping someone solely on his or her immigration status only because it was backed by law enforcement. “Illegal immigration takes jobs away from Americans. It holds down wages, hurts union workers, farmworkers, factory workers, hurts wages and raises unemployment,” Rauner said. “One of the reasons we have such high unemployment in the city of Chicago and so much crime is the massive number of illegal immigrants here take jobs away from American citizens and Chicago citizens,” he contended, adding that Pritzker wants to make Illinois a “sanctuary state.”)
— Scalise to help Roskam raise money in Illinois’ 6th
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-morning-spin-rauner-pritzker-sterigenics-ad-20181008-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam is set to get a fundraising boost from a Southern congressman who defeated him in a bid to move up House Republican leadership. U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana will be in Naperville on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at a reception for Roskam, according to the invitation. A ticket goes for $50, and a “private roundtable” goes for $1,000. Four years ago, Scalise bested Roskam in the race for House majority whip, a post that opened up in the leadership shuffle following Eric Cantor’s primary loss to Dave Brat in Virginia. At the time, Roskam was the No. 4 Republican in the House, but his unsuccessful attempt to move up left him out of GOP leadership. Last year, Scalise was shot by a Belleville, Ill., man during practice for the annual congressional baseball game. He has since made his return to Congress, where he still serves as whip under House Speaker Paul Ryan. Roskam, of Wheaton, is locked in a tough re-election battle with Democratic businessman Sean Casten of Downers Grove, who raised $2.6 million in the third quarter, according to his campaign. Roskam’s campaign said he raised about $1.3 million.)

— ‘Sanctuary cities’ don’t care if restaurants exploit undocumented workers – Neil Gaffney, Lake View (DIERSEN: Have you ever been a restaurant worker? I washed dishes part-time for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights 1964-1966. That job enabled me to buy a new 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint in May of 1966. If there had been as many illegals around back then as there are now, I doubt that I would have been offered that job. I cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline during the summer of 1966. I saved the money that I earned for UIC college expenses. If there had been as many illegals around back then as there are now, I doubt that I would have been offered those jobs.)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/undocumented-immigrants-restaurant-industry-labor-rights-letters/
(FROM THE LETTER: As I read the article “Chinatown job agencies, Asian restaurants ‘exploit’ Latinos, say workers, suit” (Oct. 7), two questions came to mind regarding Chicago and other sanctuary cities like San Francisco. On the one hand, is sanctuary first and foremost a program designed to allow the undocumented to build a life with dignity? Or, on the other hand, is it a program more designed to allow employers access to cheap unskilled labor with no labor rights, no job protections, zero benefits, and no right to complain since you risk being reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement? I think the latter, actually. Why hire a low-skilled American citizen who will come with a multitude of labor rights and job protections, when you can hire an undocumented low-skilled worker really cheap, without any of that baggage? An employer’s dream, and the sanctuary cities are fine with it. Some sanctuary.)

— Schoolchildren are just the pawns in politicians’ never-ending property tax game – Phil Kadner (DIERSEN: How much have you paid in property taxes? How much of a burden have you and your children been on public schools that depend on property taxes? I paid property taxes a) on my new town home in University Park 1972-1984, b) on my studio condo in downtown Chicago 1974-1976, and c) on my one bedroom condo in downtown Chicago 1974-1976. My wife and I paid property taxes on 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton 1978-1984. My wife and I have paid property taxes on 915 Cove Court in Wheaton since 1984. My wife and I have never sent any children to any public school. My wife has never attended a school. I attended Crete-Monee High School 1962-1966. What do you say to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who want my wife and I to pay more property taxes, more income taxes, and more other taxes? They stress that I avoided the draft and my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents. They hint/imply/argue/shout that the federal government grossly overpaid me and that my federal retirement benefits are much too generous.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hold everything. Jeanne Ives just weighed in on the governor’s race and boy is she mad. The state rep who lost to Gov. Bruce Rauner in a bitter GOP primary wants the Illinois Department of Revenue to investigate how Democrat J.B. Pritzker got a tax break by pulling toilets out of his second home, thus lowering the property value. Is this a gift to Rauner? Nope. Ives hasn’t even talked to the governor. “This is my hot-button issue,” Ives told POLITICO. “It sticks in my craw big-time. Who does that? M.K. grew up in South Dakota, the same state I did,” Ives said, referring to Pritzker’s wife. “No one does this. I don’t know where she learned these kinds of shenanigans. But normal people don’t do it. I’m angry. You don’t cheat this way. If the damned Democrats don’t prosecute this, then why would anyone stay in this state just to be treated unfairly by the political ruling class.” Hiding property wealth, says Ives, just shortchanges schools and leaves taxpayers holding the bag. Pritzker has maintained the toilets were pulled as part of a renovation project, but Ives doesn’t buy it. She’s been studying property-tax fairness for years—even talked to Rauner about legislation address how property values are assessed in Illinois. “He never took it up.” The conservative darling’s re-entry into the political fray could help advance Rauner’s case. But Rauner also has his own investigation to worry about. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan called for a criminal probe into Rauner’s handling of the deadly Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at the Quincy veterans’ home. “We are investigating whether any laws were violated in the response to the risks of an outbreak of Legionella at the Quincy veterans’ home, where many people died,” Madigan spokeswoman Maura Possley said in a statement.)

— Controversy surrounds highest paid Illinois school superintendent Troy Paraday – Dane Placko (DIERSEN: Does controversy surround you? Are/were you accused of being overpaid? My GAO salary in 1997 was $125,325 in today’s dollars. My Civil Service Retirement System pension is $51,864. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always accused me of being overpaid. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)
http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/local/controversy-surrounds-highest-paid-illinois-school-superintendent
(FROM THE ARTICLE: They say money’s tight at the small district, comprised of three schools and 1,100 students. Except for Superintendent Paraday, who this year will earn a salary of $309,000. But that’s not all. Paraday’s contract also calls for a car allowance, insurance benefits, retirement annuity and other goodies driving up his annual compensation to $407,000 — the highest of any Illinois school superintendent. And that’s not all. When Paraday retires on October 31st, Calumet City taxpayers will be handing him a big Halloween treat. “Open the Books” and FOX 32 found a clause in Paraday’s contract that allows him to collect cash for unused time off. Since 2005, he’s accumulated 567 days of unused vacation, sick time and personal days. Based on Paraday’s current salary, he’ll cash those days in for more than $762,000.)

They knew that my wife had helped elect Jim Thompson. They were fully aware of the arguments that Thompson and Jim Edgar made in Rutan that government employers should be allowed to engage in political affiliation discrimination (SEE: http://www.nytimes.com/1996/03/13/us/seeking-return-to-ways-of-patronage-in-politics.html).)
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180922/cadre-of-gop-insiders-getting-big-salaries-at-illinois-tollway
(FROM THE ARTICLE: All six positions are Rutan-exempt, meaning it’s allowable to hire someone with political affiliations. The term stems from a lawsuit filed against former Republican Gov. James Thompson over political hiring. The tollway has a history of hiring and awarding contracts to political insiders under Democratic and Republican governors. Former Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich, imprisoned on corruption charges, was charged with strong-arming a construction company for donations and taking contributions from a contractor. State Rep. Jeanne Ives, a conservative Republican from Wheaton, has criticized the hiring of Gorman and Durkin. Of the other staffers, Ives said it’s reasonable for leadership to want “people who are aligned with you politically and you see eye-to-eye with. But it has to be disappointing to folks who’ve worked at the tollway a long time and have more institutional knowledge not to be given the opportunity.”)

ILLINOIS NEWS NETWORK
— Illinois congressmen split on push to remove SALT deduction cap – Cole Lauterbach (DIERSEN: Roskam should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
https://www.ilnews.org/news/statewide/illinois-congressmen-split-on-push-to-remove-salt-deduction-cap/article_38a1d2fa-bc48-11e8-ab06-d73b477e6e69.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Danny Davis, a Chicago Democrat, chastised Republicans for placing a $10,000 limit on how much in state and local taxes can be deducted on a federal filing. He and other Democrats tried to add language rolling back the cap to the follow-up legislation making last winter’s tax cuts permanent. Davis told the House Ways and Means Committee that the cap unfairly burdens Illinoisans and hurts business passthroughs. “The Republican-sought bill would increase taxes on almost 2 million Illinoisans by hundreds of millions of dollars,” he said. Committee Chairman Kevin Brady shot back at Democrats in his final remarks before calling the bill for a vote, saying the tax break subsidizes high-tax states. “This is a great amendment,” Brady said. “If you are wealthy or you are a governor or state legislator who loves to brutally tax families and businesses … these very states are seeing windfalls because the economy is booming and changes in the tax code are providing them new revenue. What we’ve seen is that these high tax states are pocketing that revenue.” The amendment failed, with Republicans Peter Roskam and Darin Lahood voting against it. According to the IRS, the average SALT deduction in Illinois was more than $12,000. The progressive Institute on Taxation and Public Policy said in a report that removing the cap on SALT deductions would simply be another tax cut for the rich, saying “repealing the SALT cap would cost $87 billion in tax year 2019 alone and 63 percent of the benefits would go to the richest 1 percent.” Others have criticized the state and local tax deduction as a subsidy and incentive to high-earners in high-tax states who arguably have the greatest ability to pay for it.)

https://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/09/20/project-veritas-gao-socialist-activism-destroy-capitalists/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the latest installment of Project Veritas’ undercover video series into the “Deep State,” a U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) employee purportedly admits to breaking agency rules and being a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). UPDATE: According to Project Veritas, GAO has issued a statement saying that this employee has been “removed from any ongoing GAO work.” The statement reads: “[W]e cannot comment on his personnel status due to privacy laws. But he has been removed from any ongoing GAO work and cut off from access to GAO equipment. We have a rigorous quality control process with many reviewers that prevents one person from biasing our final reports. But we will also examine his work product as part of our investigation.” Project Veritas identifies its latest subject as Natarajan Subramanian, a GAO administrator and “self-proclaimed Communist,” appearing to tell an undercover journalist that federal employees may calculatingly subvert President Donald Trump’s agenda by simply accomplishing tasks at a slower pace. “If you’re in [an] executive branch agency you can slow ball things to a degree, that it’s like ineffective, and maybe you get in trouble, or maybe you get fired or resign or whatever, but you slowed [Trump’s agenda] down for a certain period of time,” Subramanian says. In another exchange, Subramanian purportedly says he is not only a card-carrying member of the Metro DC DSA but also works secretly to expand the group’s online presence — while on the job as a federal employee. “Everything that I’m doing with DSA is stuff that I’m not supposed to be doing for work… it’s explicitly prohibited. If they find out I could get in trouble, basically,” Subramanian says during the tape. “No one knows I spent six hours yesterday doing social media for DSA.” According to Subramanian, other GAO staffers are aware he is a Metro DC DSA member, yet his superiors remain in the dark. “Management does not know. You have to be strategic about things like this,” he says. Subramanian purportedly admits he would be terminated if GAO officials were aware of his activism during work hours — yet breaks the rules anyways. “That’s when I might get fired. If there’s like a camera above my cubicle looking down so they can see and zoom in and see what’s on my phone,” he explains. “I would get fired if they knew that I was [engaging in DSA activity at work,] and I do. I do it on my phone.” In a separate exchange, the GAO staffer says one of his DSA cohorts assists the Pentagon with “war planning stuff” involving Syria and possesses Top Secret clearance. Subramanian says little oversight exists across the federal government. “There’s no one looking over my shoulder,” he says. “So like, a lot of times what I’ll do, and this is kind of what I’m doing right now, is like I’ll drink the night before, I tele-work and then I’m like, if I’m 15 minutes late to log on, no one checks.” In a statement released Thursday, Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe said of the investigative group’s latest sting: “For years the public has been at most only nebulously aware of the permanent administrative state. Only recently have we begun calling it the ‘deep state.’ And with this series, we’ve begun exposing who these individuals undermining our government really are.”)

WORLD NET DAILY
— COMMUNIST (GAO EMPLOYEE) BOASTS OF HINDERING PRESIDENT’S AGENDA ‘You can slow-ball things to a degree’ – BOB UNRUH (DIERSEN: One could say that GAO got rid of me so that it could hire employees like this.)
https://www.wnd.com/2018/09/communist-federal-worker-boasts-of-hindering-presidents-agenda/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A federal employee who describes himself as a communist boasts he can slow down President Trump’s agenda simply by deliberately delaying his assignments. “If you’re in [an] executive branch agency you can slow-ball things to a degree, that it’s like ineffective, and maybe you get in trouble, or maybe you get fired or resign or whatever, but you slowed [Trump’s agenda] down for a certain period of time,” he said. The comments by Natarajan Subramanian, a Government Accountability Office worker and “self-described communist,” were captured in an undercover video by James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas. It’s the third video in the series. In the second, two “Deep State” radicals confessed, “There’s a lot of talk about how we can like, resist from inside.” The first video in the series, released Tuesday, showed career civil servant Stuart Karaffa of the State Department boasting of working for the Democratic Socialists of America while he’s being paid by taxpayers. He explained his task is: “Resist everything. … Every level.” Since Trump’s election, there have been many references to the “Deep State,” the unelected, career bureaucrats using their tax-paid jobs to undermine the president’s agenda, including his efforts to “drain the swamp” and make government work better. Subramanian boasts of being a GAO auditor while working for the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America. “Metro DC DSA is a socialist group that works to advance progressive issues in the Metropolitan DC area. Subramanian’s political activism may directly violate federal statutes as well as the ‘Yellow Book’ rules which apply specifically to government auditors,” Project Veritas explained. Subramanian said executive branch workers can deliberately stall the president’s agenda through their work or by doing less work. And he chooses to prioritize his politics over his job responsibilities. “Everything that I’m doing with DSA is stuff that I’m not supposed to be doing for work … it’s explicitly prohibited. If they find out I could get in trouble, basically,” he told the undercover journalists. In June, when his organization harassed Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen in public, he admitted “doing social media” for Metro DC DSA for most of the day. “No one knows I spent six hours yesterday doing social media for DSA,” he said. Subramanian said he conceals his actions from his supervisors, explaining one has to be “strategic.” BBut he believes he is safe. “There’s no one looking over my shoulder. So like, a lot of times what I’ll do, and this is kind of what I’m doing right now. I’ll drink the night before, I tele-work and then I’m like, if I’m 15 minutes late to log on, no one checks.” O’Keefe says the video series puts a face on the Deep State: “For years the public has been at most only nebulously aware of the permanent administrative state. Only recently have we begun calling it the ‘deep state.’ And with this series, we’ve begun exposing who these individuals undermining our government really are.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has confirmed that the government is aware of the video series.)
