GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The charges made in Winchester v. Illinois Republican Party (IRP) are extremely serious. Constructively, Winchester has charged the IRP with voter fraud. What does the IRP, that is, Bruce Rauner, want Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains to know about Winchester v. IRP? From what I see, the answer is absolutely nothing. Needless-to-say, the less informed that Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains are, the less creditable that they are. By its failure/refusal to communicate, the IRP motivates me to fill the communication void with GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. – Dave Diersen

MADISON RECORD
— State central committeeman Winchester sues state GOP; case removed to federal court
https://madisonrecord.com/stories/511424774-state-central-committeeman-winchester-sues-state-gop-case-removed-to-federal-court
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bob Winchester, central committeeman of the Illinois Republican Party since 1992, claims in U.S. district court that the party rigged an election against him. His lawyer, Stephen Boulton of Chicago, alleges that the party improperly favored State Sen. Chapin Rose of Champaign for committeeman in an election on April 18. According to Boulton’s complaint, irregularities occurred at county conventions across the 15th Congressional district. He wrote that irregularities changed the vote “from the true result, a majority in favor of Winchester, to a false result, an alleged majority in favor of Rose.” In an interview on May 21, Boulton said that he had “a number” of affidavits from Madison County which demonstrate that Bob Winchester won the election. Last month, the Record reported that precinct committee men and women in Madison County chose Winchester over Rose by a margin of approximately 60 to 40 percent, and then as a sign of unity voted by acclamation to place 100 percent of the county’s vote in favor of Winchester. Winchester filed the suit in Hardin County, against state central committee members and State Board of Elections members who certified Rose’s election. The party removed the action to federal court on May 18. Boulton’s complaint described a county convention where, “only Rose was presented as a candidate for whom votes could be cast.” “Rose alone was nominated, and by the chairman of the convention,” the complaint states. He wrote that the chairman reported a unanimous vote for Rose to party staff. Boulton said it happened in Fayette County, where Randy Pollard serves as county GOP chairman. “It was over in 45 seconds,” Boulton said. “No understood what happened.” In the complaint, he wrote that several county chairmen reported incorrect results to staff, favoring Rose and that county chairmen and staff acted as agents of the state party. He wrote that the party, through staff, participated in the election by recruiting candidates and directing candidates to withdraw. He wrote that staff opposed Winchester due to “a strong likelihood of losing their positions if the present chairman is not re-elected.” The central committee re-elected its chairman, Tim Schneider, on May 19. Boulton said the committee seated Rose over an objection. “We expected that,” he said. “If Winchester was sitting there rather than Rose, the outcome might have been different.” The court clerk assigned the action to District Judge Staci Yandle.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Sen. Rose ‘railroaded’ over incumbent by GOP in State Central Committeeman race, affidavit says – Karen Kidd
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511425048-sen-rose-railroaded-over-incumbent-by-gop-in-state-central-committeeman-race-affidavit-says
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Fayette County Precinct committeeman said he was “confused” by a “nomination process” in April that somehow led to a win for state Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) over Robert Winchester, the longtime incumbent in the race for Republican State Central Committeeman in the 15th Congressional District, according to an affidavit obtained by Prairie State Wire. “After this sequence of rapid nomination and voice vote on closing nominations, which in my best estimate took much less than a minute, I turned to a colleague and asked, ‘What just happened?’,” Fayette County Precinct Committeeman Glen Mills said in the affidavit filed with the Illinois Board of Elections. Mills, a Brownstown resident, said in his affidavit that he “later learned” Randy Pollard, Rauner’s downstate director who acted as chair during the convention when the election took place, “reported the vote for Fayette County as unanimous in favor of Chapin Rose.” Mills claims in his affidavit that draft minutes from the convention back up his own memories about how Rose came to win the seat on the Republican State Central Committee that had been held by Winchester since 1992. “The only word I can use to describe the election proceeding on a subjective level is that the election of Mr. Rose was intentionally ‘railroaded’ through the convention at high speed while this precinct committeeman (Mills) was confused by the process,” Mills said in his affidavit. “I do not believe I was given a fair chance to vote for Mr. Winchester in the election for State Central Committeeman for the 15th District conducted on April 18, 2018, or even the opportunity to vote ‘present’ or otherwise not have my precinct’s weighted vote be counted for Mr. Rose.” In April, sources informed Prairie State Wire that Winchester had retained counsel to launch a challenge to voting procedures in his Republican State Central Committee re-election bid. Rose, an assistant Republican caucus leader, has represented the 51st district since 2013, having previously been a member of the state House for about a decade. The Illinois state Senate’s 51st District encompasses all of Dewitt, Piatt, Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby counties and parts of McLean, Champaign, Vermilion, Edgar and Macon counties. Sources told Prairie State Wire in April that the state GOP had run Rose against the incumbent Winchester to punish Winchester for backing Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in her strong but unsuccessful March primary bid against Gov. Bruce Rauner. Earlier this month, Winchester’s attorney, Steve Boulton of Peraica & Associates in Chicago, said in a letter to state GOP General Counsel John Fogarty that the race results had been determined by a “group of unelected and merely appointed staff members” with “personal and financial interests” in the re-election of current state GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. “The procedure may have well have been employed before, but it is not properly authorized and stands in contravention of the plain language of the Election Code,” Boulton wrote in his letter. “Repetition of an unlawful practice does not make it legal. If such were true bank robbery would be legal today.” In his complaint filed in federal court, Winchester alleged the Illinois Republican party rigged the April 18 election against him. In an interview published this week in the Madison-St. Clair Record, Boulton claimed to have “a number” of affidavits that prove Winchester actually won the election. A source told the Prairie State Wire that Winchester was not even mentioned as an option by Pollard and that he’d called for a voice vote during the April 18 election. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Mills, in his affidavit, described what happened as slightly different from what the source described. Pollard, “very politically powerful in Fayette County,” supported Rose before the convention, “which was confirmed when Mr. Pollard had papers distributed to the Convention supporting Mr. Chapin (Rose), including to me, an action which I considered improper,” Mills said in his affidavit. “At the commencement of the election Mr. Pollard announced that there were two candidates for State Central Committeeman, Chapin Rose and Robert Winchester,” the affidavit said. “After announcing the candidates, Mr. Pollard immediately called for ‘nominations’ which caused me great confusion since he had just announced the two candidates. I did not know what the nominations were for, or what purpose they served, given that the candidates had just been announced.” Pollard then nominated Rose, who “received an immediate second,” the affidavit said. “I remained confused by this procedure, since the candidates were already announced by Mr. Pollard and I was trying to grasp why a nomination process was being conducted at all. In very short order, a voice vote to close nominations occurred, and Mr. Pollard declared the election over. I do not recall any actual vote for Mr. Chapin (Rose) at all.” Mills said in his affidavit that he reviewed draft minutes from the convention, a copy of which was attached to his affidavit, and found they “comport with my recollection that no election vote was actually taken.” “Further, the minutes reflect that Mr. Pollard nominated Mr. Rose only after asking for nominations three times,” the affidavit said. “This comports with my recollection that the actual sequence of from [sic] nomination of Mr. Rose to closing of nominations was very quick.” Pollard, Mills and Rose did not immediately respond to Prairie State Wire requests for comment.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Drama continues in state GOP ranks – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-chicago-fop-protest-20180521-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party held its organizational meeting Saturday and re-elected Gov. Rauner’s handpicked chairman as part of a compromise with insurgent conservatives. But despite that attempt to show unity, the battle is continuing and may end up in a federal courtroom. Bob Winchester, a former state representative from Rosiclare, had been the longest-serving member of the Republican State Central Committee, serving since 1992. Winchester is an opponent of Rauner and party Chairman Tim Schneider, and he was challenged for re-election by state Sen. Chapin Rose of Mahomet. The State Board of Elections certified Rose as the winner at a special May 10 meeting and said it didn’t have the authority to investigate what Winchester alleges were misdeeds that made Rose the victor to represent the 15th Congressional District GOP. Winchester’s attorney, Stephen Boulton, said he filed suit a week ago in Downstate Hardin County to try to stop Rose from being seated, but his office said the case was not electronically recorded as being filed until late last week, too late to prevent Rose from being seated. The lawsuit contends both the state GOP and the State Board of Elections violated Winchester’s federally constitutionally protected due process rights and that county vote totals were changed to a “false result” in favor of Rose. The Illinois GOP has filed notice to move the case to the U.S. District Court in Benton. “The Illinois Republican Party is confident that the State Central Committee elections were conducted in accordance with state law, our party bylaws, and in an open and transparent manner,” Illinois Republican Party Executive Director Andrew Collins said in a statement. “We are also confident that the results reported to the party by the county Republican central committees were accurate, that the State Board (of Elections) certification of those results was proper and that the results are now final,” Collins said.)

https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511424464-no-deal-battle-over-allegedly-rigged-illinois-gop-vote-moves-forward-in-court
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sources present said Illinois GOP general counsel John Fogarty was asked about the lawsuit and evidence during an executive session on Saturday. He responded that he “wasn’t worried” about it. Flipping Winchester’s seat on the state central committee was critical if Rauner were to secure the re-election of Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider of Elk Grove Village, a close ally, hand-picked by the governor in 2014. With Rose’s vote, Schneider was re-elected Saturday. If the election stands, he and Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw will serve as co-chairmen for the next four years. Deals, and Democrats Sources tell Prairie State Wire that Shaw tried furiously last week to strike a deal with Winchester to get him to drop his lawsuit, offering to give his deputy a high-ranking party position and to “find a job” for a family member in state government. But Winchester refused. Overtures were also made to Winchester’s lawyers, who were asked if a deal could be made to get them to withdraw from the case. . .Conservative skepticism Winchester has been critical of Rauner and Schneider; he supported State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in her challenge to Rauner in March. Ives defended Winchester and criticized the party’s treatment of him. “If the story is true that Rauner allies promised jobs in exchange for Bob Winchester withdrawing his lawsuit against the party, then everyone in our party leadership who knew about it should resign immediately,” said Ives. “They have been lying to the grassroots long enough. If party leadership thinks we will now turn a blind eye to corruption, then it just goes to show you how out of touch they are. “We won’t win if we can’t be honest, and we don’t deserve to win if we can’t be honest. Republicans need to lead by example, not play the same political games that the Democrats do,” she said. Shaw had originally sought to challenge Schneider for the chairmanship and had earned the support of Ives and State Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills). That was until late last week, when Shaw announced he had struck a deal to share the party chairmanship with Schneider and drop his challenge.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Schneider says that while the GOP has its differences “there is much more that brings us together than separates us.” Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. Trump has promised to defend and advance the Republican Party platform. QUESTION: In Illinois, what separates Republicans? ANSWER: It is the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform. Those who reject the aforesaid planks dominate the IRP. They focus on driving out of the IRP those who support the aforesaid planks, that is, they focus on destroying the IRP. QUESTION: In Illinois, what further separates Republicans? ANSWER: It is support for Trump. Those who reject Trump dominate the IRP. They focus on driving out of the IRP those who support Trump, that is, they focus on destroying the IRP.)

While I took a graduate business course at UIC in 1971 and graduate business courses at Loyola 1972-1976, I sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances and pumped gasoline for Firestone Stores and collected delinquent taxes for IRS. While I took graduate accounting courses at DePaul 1976-1980, I collected delinquent taxes for IRS and audited federal agencies for GAO. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Theoretically, graduate assistants are apprentices — graduate students in training to become the next generation of professors. In reality, they’re a pool of cheap labor. They teach the undergraduates and staff the laboratories for a fraction of the salaries professors command. Once, they were content to do so, knowing that when they’d earned a Ph.D., they’d make a respectable living. But those days are gone, as one of the strike’s organizers explained while handing me a union button, a strike poster and a plastic poncho donated by the United Automobile Workers, the graduate assistants’ union affiliate. “For many of us, an assistantship is as far as we’re going to get,” she said. “We want a decent paycheck for our limited time in the academic world.” There simply are no longer enough faculty openings for graduate assistants to move up to. Some will survive as the Ivory Tower’s equivalent of office temps — “non-tenure track” lecturers who never know how long their low-paying gig will last. Together the temps and graduate assistants comprise 80 percent of college instructors. Fifty years ago, they comprised 20 percent — and therein lies the difference between what it meant to be a graduate student in my day and the experience of those I stood beside on Columbia’s campus.)

REPUBLICAN NEWS WATCH
— Illinois GOP Chair Must Step Up for President Trump or Step Down – DOUG IBENDAHL
http://republicannewswatch.com/wp/?p=14488
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party held its reorganizational meeting on Saturday in downstate Springfield. Every four years after the 18 members of the state central committee are picked around the state, that committee convenes to choose the state party chairman. Apart from some minor deckchair rearranging on Saturday, the status-quo prevailed. Governor Bruce Rauner’s hand-picked state party chairman Tim Schneider was unanimously rewarded with another 4-year term as chair by the state central committee. Schneider must have looked around the room and saw no Chicago press amongst the small choir of Republicans, because near the end of the meeting he actually had a few kind words for President Trump. The local Springfield paper was the only outlet I saw which reported his short remarks on that score. This is noteworthy because I live in Cook County, same as Schneider, and not once have I ever heard Schneider stand-up for our President in Chicago media. Schneider has a unique platform as party chairman. If he had the desire, he could easily get in Chicago radio, television, and newspaper coverage pretty much any time he chose, just by virtue of the big title he holds. And you won’t be surprised to hear that our President gets hammered constantly on Chicago radio and television, and in the two daily newspapers which are both viciously anti-Trump. But safely ensconced in a room with only Republicans, 200 miles away from Chicago, Chairman Schneider managed to voice exactly one sentence in support of our President. We’re all supposed to rejoice. Preaching to the choir at a small GOP meeting is easy. Taking the message to the unconverted is not so easy, but that’s the duty you sign-on for if you say you want a party title.)

https://willcountygazette.com/stories/511416297-resolution-calling-for-ford-heights-library-audit-sparks-contentious-debate-in-house
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A debate over a resolution directing the auditor general to perform an assessment of the Ford Heights Public Library District brought harsh words during House debate May 10. “This will allow the current board to have a health audit,” Rep. Thaddeus Jones (D-Calumet City) said of the resolution, HR843. However, the discussion for a clean audit turned ugly after Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) shared her particular concern for the south suburbs and Cook County, where property taxes are reaching up to 5 and 10 percent in property values. “You are seeing a continuing decline in services including police and fire protection,” Ives said. Rep. William Davis (D-Homewood) did not like Ives talking about his turf and noted their inability to make payments and continue needed programs is because representatives like Ives don’t vote to help fund better breaks in the south suburbs. “She can sit in her ivory tower in Wheaton where they have a ton of businesses and a lot of opportunity,” Davis said. He said all Ives does is talk about how bad his district is but she has no idea of the true problems that exist. “She has never even been to the communities,” Davis said. “So, I wish she would leave my communities out of her mouth.” Davis said until Ives is ready to come to the table and talk about helping his district she should remain silent. “Can you do that, I don’t think you can?” Davis said.)

(FROM THE ANNOUNCEMENT: Late last night, the two candidates for ILGOP Chair, Chairman Tim Schneider and Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw, announced a compromise that has the candidates sharing the seat. State Representative Jeanne Ives, a former Republican candidate for Governor, released the following statement in response: “This is an encouraging about face by Rauner and his surrogates including Tim Schneider who spent the primary campaign ridiculing conservatives and telling us to leave the party. If this compromise elevates the party’s conservative base in terms of both policy views and party leadership, that would be good. If this compromise turns out to be the typical surrender Republican Rauner play of buying people off with money and titles, that would not be good. While I’m guardedly optimistic, I’ll reserve judgment to see how the deal operates in practice.)

ILLINOIS REPUBLICAN PARTY
— Leadership Announcement: ILGOP Chairman Tim Schneider and Lake Co. GOP Chairman Mark Shaw announce a reorganization plan that focuses on grassroots organizing dedicated to reelecting Gov. Rauner and Republicans statewide (DIERSEN: It certainly looks like the Democrat news media in Illinois was given advance notice of when this announcement would be sent out.)
https://illinois.gop/category/news/
(FROM THE ANNOUNCEMENT: “Chairman Mark Shaw is a great asset to the Illinois Republican Party, and I’m very pleased to announce a new joint effort with him to refocus our party’s efforts on grassroots and county-level organizing. This year’s election might be the most consequential one in our state’s history, so we must be more organized than ever before. That is why I wholeheartedly endorse Mark Shaw to lead the Illinois Republican County Chairmen’s Association as President. Mark will also serve as co-Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and lead conservative and grassroots outreach for the party. With Mark joining me at the helm, the state party and Republican organizations across Illinois will coordinate new efforts to reelect Gov. Bruce Rauner and our Republican ticket statewide.” – Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider “Many conservatives sent Governor Rauner a message in the primary. On the night of the primary, Governor Rauner said he heard them, and I heard them – loud and clear. But Republicans must focus on the issues that unite us and the election ahead of us. Conservatives in Illinois must come together to reelect Governor Rauner, or we won’t have a voice in state government for the next decade. “That is why I’ve decided to join together with Chairman Tim Schneider in a unity effort to lead Republicans in Illinois. I’m asking the State Central Committee to reelect Tim Schneider to another term as our party chairman, and I am honored to serve as co-Chairman of the party. The joint unity effort will make our conservative voice louder and ultimately make our party stronger. I look forward to working with Tim in my new role to focus our party’s attention on the grassroots and do the important organizing work to reelect Gov. Rauner, elect more Republicans statewide, and build our party at the statewide and local level.”  – Lake County Republican Party Chairman Mark Shaw Today, Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider and Lake County Republican Party Chairman Mark Shaw announced an agreed reorganization plan that restructures party leadership and refocuses party efforts on grassroots and county-level organizing dedicated to reelecting Governor Rauner and the statewide Republican ticket. With the full support of Chairman Shaw, Chairman Schneider will continue to serve as Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, and Chairman Shaw will serve as Co-Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and lead conservative and grassroots outreach. Additionally, with the full support of Governor Bruce Rauner and Chairman Schneider, Chairman Shaw will run for President of the Illinois Republican County Chairmen’s Association. Both leadership positions will be elected this Saturday, May 19, at organizational meetings in Springfield. Chairman Schneider and Chairman Shaw look forward to working together over the next six months to unify Republicans in Illinois, reelect Gov. Rauner, and defeat Mike Madigan.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-bruce-rauner-kwame-raoul-death-penalty-20180514-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party late Tuesday night announced a plan that would leave Gov. Rauner’s hand-picked chairman in his role, likely avoiding a potentially messy leadership challenge. While Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider would remain chairman of the state party, Lake County GOP leader Mark Shaw would become its co-chairman to “lead conservative and grassroots outreach.” Previously, Shaw had been planning a challenge to Schneider ahead of a Saturday vote for chairman. Now, Shaw will run to lead the Illinois Republican County Chairmen’s Association. The plan comes as Rauner continues to try to unify the party after he narrowly won the March primary over state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton, who backed Shaw to be the next party chairman. Rauner had backed Schneider. A battle for the post represented a continued outgrowth of dissatisfaction among the party’s social conservatives with the governor. “With Mark joining me at the helm, the state party and Republican organizations across Illinois will coordinate new efforts to reelect Gov. Bruce Rauner and our Republican ticket statewide,” Schneider said in a statement.)

Further, because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)
http://www.wirepoints.com/former-governor-edgar-bragged-about-increasing-state-pension-benefits-when-he-left-office-quicktake/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The governor approved the most significant increase in pension benefits for state workers in a quarter century.,” Edgar wrote. “A concerted effort was made to improve state employee benefits and make a career in government service more attractive.” The book also noted Edgar agreed to other improvements, like adding vision and dental coverage and long-term care insurance, according to the Journal-Register. As for the “Edgar Ramp,” it was central to the finding by the Securities & Exchange Commission that Illinois misled investors in connection with bond sales after Edgar left office. The Edgar Ramp was unworkable, the SEC basically said, and Illinois should have told bond buyers. The fraudulent nondisclosure was not Edgar’s fault, but the relevance of the Edgar Ramp to the fraud finding and the state’s financial mess is clear. With his party in control of both houses of the General Assembly during much of his term, and an economy “like a rocket in flight,” as described by a counterpart governor at the time, Pete Wilson in California, Edgar had the stars aligned to sensibly fix the pension system. He did the opposite. Today, he’s often asked for his wisdom on how to fix our problems. Listen to his answers. There’s nothing of substance there. Just milquetoast platitudes like “we need strong leadership” and “we’ll just have to pay the pensions.” Edgar’s pension started at age 55. It’s $161,000 today.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republicans proved they could be a big-tent party last night after announcing a leadership restructuring reminiscent of an end-of-the-season Little League ball club: everyone gets an award! Two candidates for GOP chair were bracing for an all-out brawl this weekend — current party Chairman Tim Schneider and challenger Lake County Chairman Mark Shaw. Shaw was buoyed by conservatives angry with Gov. Bruce Rauner. But a deal announced late Thursday instead has Schneider and Shaw sharing the chairmanship, avoiding a risky vote and a messy fight that’s already involved legal action. In his role, Shaw would lead “conservative and grassroots outreach” for the party and also have Schneider’s backing to lead the Illinois Republican County Chairmen’s Association. “Many conservatives sent Governor Rauner a message in the primary. On the night of the primary, Governor Rauner said he heard them, and I heard them – loud and clear,” Shaw said in a statement (emphasis was his own). “But Republicans must focus on the issues that unite us and the election ahead of us. Conservatives in Illinois must come together to reelect Governor Rauner, or we won’t have a voice in state government for the next decade.” “Joint Unity Effort” — Shaw was referencing what’s at stake if Republicans lose the governor’s mansion in November: loss of control over redistricting. “The joint unity effort will make our conservative voice louder and ultimately make our party stronger,” Shaw said. “I look forward to working with Tim in my new role to focus our party’s attention on the grassroots and do the important organizing work to reelect Gov. Rauner, elect more Republicans statewide, and build our party at the statewide and local level.” There was already chatter last night about who was capitulating here. Yes, sharing the chairmanship shows Rauner’s weakness, since he has almost single-handedly funded the party. This never could have happened under Rauner two years ago. And yes, Shaw lost his chance at potentially knocking out Goliath. And it will remain to be seen how real Shaw’s role will be. For now, what’s important is this is a much-needed move for a Republican party trying to get itself back on track. Rauner desperately needed some declaration of unity after months of high-profile post-primary sparring with his opponent Jeanne Ives and the realization Republican Sam McCann is running as a third party candidate. The governor can now move on to the next fire.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A U.S. district judge who scolded Donald Trump as he testified in a 2013 civil trial on the sale of condos at Chicago Trump Tower has been confirmed for a seat on the Chicago-based 7th U.S. District Court of Appeals. That scolding didn’t stop now-President Trump from nominating Amy St. Eve in February. The Senate approved her nomination 91-0 Monday. On the witness stand, Trump repeatedly clashed with a lawyer for retiree Jacqueline Goldberg. Goldberg accused Trump of enticing her to buy two luxury condos by promising profit sharing. She said he yanked the offer after she committed to the purchase. Trump and the attorney continually raised their voices and interrupted each other. St. Eve once told them to stop their verbal “boxing.” The visibly exasperated judge also told them to “get control” of themselves. Jurors later concluded Trump hadn’t cheated Goldberg.)

REPUBLICAN NEWS WATCH
— GOP Boss Hogs 4 Titles But Says Black Trump Supporters Can’t Have 1 – DOUG IBENDAHL
http://republicannewswatch.com/wp/?p=14478
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I strongly suspect one big reason that neither Sean Morrison nor Tim Schneider lifts a finger for President Trump is they look at polls saying Trump is unpopular in Cook County and they fear standing-up for the President would hurt their prospects of keeping their cushy County Board positions. In my opinion they have a serious conflict of interest. In any case, it’s at least a reasonable question they should have to address. But on one point there can be no disagreement. Donald Trump is the best thing the GOP has going for it. It’s not even close. Trump is where all the energy is and he’s pretty much the only Republican who is getting things done, anywhere. Trump is also making politics fun again and is bringing in new people like never before. It’s a shame we are burdened with so many Republican officials in Illinois who will never get it, but the fact is President Trump has completely changed the game, on multiple levels. As just one example there is a major paradigm shift going on in the black community where black folks who never, ever would have considered supporting a Republican president are supporting this one. Kanye West is just one high profile example.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s the gender gap you don’t hear so much about: Single women are buying homes and condos at what may be more than twice the rate of single males, and the trend appears to be accelerating. Consider: Single women accounted for 18 percent of all home purchases last year compared with just 7 percent by single males, according to survey data from the National Association of Realtors. For me, that would have been when I was 55 years old in 2003. But my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180513/more-americans-expect-to-work-until-70-there-are-benefits
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The RMD is the minimum amount that the IRS says you must draw from retirement accounts each year once you reach age 70 ½. This approach, dubbed the “Spend Safely in Retirement Strategy,” in effect “pensionizes” common retirement accounts like a 401(k) or IRA. It will not compensate for inadequate savings but it will help squeeze as much income as possible from existing sources. To make it work, some retirees may have to significantly lower their living expenses. Vernon said it’s a straightforward way for middle-income workers with between $100,000 and $1 million in savings to generate a stream of lifetime income. He estimates this group represents as many as half of all workers age 55 and older. And workers need some help as most will not consult a financial planner and few calculate how much they’ll need. “You can’t just tumble into retirement, you have to be thoughtful about it,” he said. Americans typically retire at age 63 and start collecting Social Security between age 62 to 64, according to research from The New School. But waiting pays off.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In 1919, Walgreen had 20 stores, which a decade later grew to 525. Company historians have attributed Walgreens tremendous growth in the 1920s to the popularity of the malted milkshake, invented by soda jerk Ivar “Pop” Coulson in 1922. Coulson added vanilla ice cream to the common malted milk drink, which consisted of milk, chocolate syrup and malt powder. Daniel Okrent, in his book “Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition,” suggests the store also benefited from alcohol sales during that time because pharmacies were allowed to sell booze for medicinal purposes.)

https://www.forbes.com/sites/ebauer/2018/05/12/what-does-a-pensionless-future-mean-for-age-discrimination/#3a4a3f637428
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Not long ago, Pro Publica reported on the extensive age discrimination that seemed to be (that is, without legal determination of such) taking place at IBM in the course of their Reduction in Force exercise. ProPublica estimates that in the past five years alone, IBM has eliminated more than 20,000 American employees ages 40 and over, about 60 percent of its estimated total U.S. job cuts during those years. In making these cuts, IBM has flouted or outflanked U.S. laws and regulations intended to protect later-career workers from age discrimination, according to a ProPublica review of internal company documents, legal filings and public records, as well as information provided via interviews and questionnaires filled out by more than 1,000 former IBM employees. The entire report is distressing and makes for very sobering reading. Documents the ProPublica reporters obtained describe internal decisions to replace older Boomer-aged workers with younger ones viewed as better able to meet the company’s agenda, all while using gambits to reduce their risk of age-discrimination lawsuits. At the same time, readers who have watched the history of retirement plans will recall that IBM was a pioneer in the move away from traditional pension plans. In 1999, the company froze accruals in its traditional pension plan and moved to a cash balance pension plan for new accruals (that is, a hybrid plan which functions like a 401(k) plan with semi-guaranteed returns), in 2005, it switched to a 401(k) plan for new employees, and in 2008 it froze its cash balance and moved all employees to a 401(k) plan for all future accruals.)

INC.
— Why “Managing Up” is a Win-Win for Everyone – Melissa Lamson (DIERSEN: While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my superiors were always under tremendous pressure from Democrat politicians a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females and b) make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who had not made GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. I refused to become a Democrat. My Democrat superiors would say that I refused to help them meet their Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion quotas, goals, and targets, that is, that I refused to help them get rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://www.inc.com/melissa-lamson/why-managing-up-is-a-win-win-for-everyone.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Managing up is a term that refers to the tactics you use to build a strong relationship with your boss, make their job easier, and even develop relationships with the people they may report to. “Managing up, or building smooth, productive relationships with higher-ups, requires understanding and adapting to your boss’s communication and decision-making style,” writes Sue Shellenbarger, in a Wall Street Journal article. “Many people are promoted because of the quality of their work. But as newly minted managers aim to rise in the ranks, assuming their work will speak for itself becomes increasingly hazardous to their careers.” Managing up means getting to know your direct manager as a person and understanding their goals and communication styles and preferences. Remember, the boss-employee relationship is a two-way street. Take the time to figure how you can proactively build a productive relationship with the person you report to.)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes plan on spending the rest of their lives a) trying to stop me from sending the emails out and b) trying to stop everyone from reading them.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Ever-increasingly, Illinois Democrats want Illinois taxpayers to do even more to encourage people to come to America illegally, to stay in America illegally, and to bring others to America illegally. Ever-increasingly, Illinois Democrats focus on driving individuals, organizations, and companies out of Illinois that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. Ever-increasingly, Illinois Democrats act like they are paid agents for criminals in Mexico and in other foreign countries.

They want you to first learn of things only from them, or from those who they manipulate/dominate or who they are in bed with. CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Former Lake in the Hills cop in prison for sex assault on teen girl will keep $84K pension – George Houde (DIERSEN: How much is the pension that you a) are in line to get or b) are getting? Of course, since 1997, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my COLA-adjusted Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension, currently $51,864/year, is excessive. In my defense, I worked for federal government for almost 30 years – almost 3 years for the Post Office 1966-1969, almost 9 years for IRS 1971-1980, and almost 18 years for GAO 1980-1997. In today’s dollars, my ending GS-13 Step 10 GAO salary was $125,325. My $51,864/year CSRS pension is $6,224/year less because my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 and suffer a 12% early retirement penalty (2% X 6 years). Of course, my CSRS pension would be much higher if my Democrat superiors in the federal government had not wasted my career and forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old. If the Democrats who run the federal government had promoted me into their Senior Executive Service, my CSRS pension would be $131,360/year (80% of $164,200/year.)

For me, as a federal employee, it would have been my a) becoming a Democrat, b) becoming a veteran, c) painting myself as being a yes-man, and d) helping my superiors get rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who did not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180511/district-200-school-board-teachers-union-ink-4-year-contract
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Union members will receive across-the-board base salary increases of 2.5 percent in the first year. The district will determine annual salary increases in remaining years by averaging the rate of inflation over two levy years. The pact also establishes a 2.5 percent floor and 3.5 percent ceiling for annual cost-of-living raises in the remaining years. A first-year teacher now makes $44,525. Under the new contract, that teacher will make $45,416. The highest-paid teacher under the previous agreement received $114,616. The new contract eliminates scheduled salary steps based on longevity in the district, so there won’t be a set top salary. Instead, teachers will receive lane increases tied to their education and professional development.)

http://qctimes.com/opinion/editorial/editorial-thumbs-up-thumbs-down/article_b32a8a4e-82c4-5c0b-b141-c165f47eea0b.html
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Illinois’ Republican governor won’t say whether he would back a state ratification of the long-stalled Equal Rights Amendment. The center-right politician is battling conservatives angered by his handling of abortion and immigration. And he’s facing Democrats frothing over his role in Illinois’ continued budgetary morass. We supported Rauner because he was precisely the kind of Republican the country needs. He’s business minded. He’s not interested in waging a culture war. He’s a man whose party has abandoned him. And that’s unfortunate. But, decades ago, Illinois was key player in stalling the proposed constitutional amendment that would guarantee women equal rights. The country has changed. And Rauner should muster Republican support in the Illinois House in order to ensure its passage.)

http://www.intellectualconservative.com/google-censoring-christian-ads/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Google said no to the conservative Lutheran publisher because … it’s religious. Concordia Publishing House CEO Bruce Kintz says Google will no longer accept ads for its Remarketing AdWords program because “the items in the ad and on the CPH website refer to Jesus and/or the Bible.” According to a Concordia press release, Google told CPH its ads were “disabled due to a violation of Google’s policy for advertising based on interests and location.” When CPH objected, the company told them it did not allow remarketing ads based on Christian beliefs. CPH could either remove the offending words or apply for a different type of ad. When asked, the Google rep refused to send the decision to reject the ads up for review. Remarketing ads are targeted at users who have visited a website. Google describes them as showing “ads to people who’ve visited your website or used your mobile app. When people leave your website without buying anything, for example, remarketing helps you reconnect with them by showing relevant ads across their different devices.”)

— Court Rules on Forced Retirement Standards (DIERSEN: Outrageously, I was denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v GAO.)
https://www.fedweek.com/retirement-financial-planning/court-rules-on-forced-retirement-standards/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A recent federal appeals court decision could make it easier for federal retirees to succeed in a claim that they were forced into retirement, by holding that the evidence they cite in support of their argument should be viewed as a whole. The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit noted that federal retirements (and resignations) are presumed to be voluntary, but that presumption can be overcome if the employee proves that he or she “had no realistic alternative but to resign or retire, and the employee’s resignation or retirement was the result of improper acts by the agency.” That should be determined by examining “the surrounding circumstances to test the ability of the employee to exercise free choice.” The court sent back to the MSPB a case in which a retiree argued that his retirement was involuntary, saying that the MSPB improperly viewed his evidence as a series of separate developments, none of which it found was sufficient to support that claim. The court cited the employee’s evidence that he was afraid to meet personally with certain supervisors after “multiple instances of hostility” from them, his request to be transferred away from them, and the worsening of a health problem. The court said that they should have been considered “as a series of escalating incidents” and viewing them “collectively, rather than dismissing them one by one, as the Board did, we find that a person in like circumstances could reasonably feel unable to exercise free choice and compelled to retire.”)
— Guidance Sent on Recording Resignations ahead of Possible Discipline (DIERSEN: Outrageously, I was denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v GAO.)
https://www.fedweek.com/federal-managers-daily-report/guidance-sent-on-recording-resignations-ahead-of-possible-discipline/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: OPM has told agencies to record in the official personnel file of an employee who resigns during an investigation that could lead to disciplinary the results of that investigation if the agency concludes that action would have been warranted. The guidance carries out a 2016 change in law resulting from concerns that by resigning, those employees could later return to the government without consequences because their personnel records would not reflect it. That same law also required agencies to review those records when considering hiring a former federal employee. OPM’s memo says that before putting that information in an individual’s official personnel file, an agency must provide notice of the adverse finding and an opportunity to respond and receive a final agency decision. That could be appealed to the MSPB. “While the statute prescribes the process for making the required permanent notation, an agency may use its own discretion for determining the format for making the notation. Agencies may wish to consult with their legal counsel,” OPM said. The guidance includes a sample for documenting the notation, and further recommends that agencies place the document and any supporting materials on the permanent side of the employee’s OPF, subject to removal if the employee prevails in an appeal at the MSPB.)

— Will Lake County Board enter the gun control debate? – Lee Filas (DIERSEN: Which of your county board members support the Second Amendment and which do not? Needless-to-say, county board members who got elected as Republicans, but do not support the Second Amendment, should immediately resign.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180508/will-lake-county-board-enter-the-gun-control-debate-
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lake County Board members could soon find themselves in a debate whether to place support behind gun control regulations or whether to send a letter to state legislators declaring the county a “sanctuary” against stricter gun laws. Thomas Quigley, of Round Lake Beach, and military veteran Ceasar Soto, of Waukegan, appeared Tuesday before the Lake County Board to speak out against a previous statement made by District 11 county board member Paul Frank about a possible ban of automatic weapons. Quigley requested board members immediately declare Lake County “a sanctuary county for all gun owners,” then told “the gun grabbers on the board to read the U.S. Constitution and study history; all governmental tyranny begins with gun confiscation.” Quigley and Soto spoke up because of statements made during the closing moments of the March 13 county board meeting where Frank, a Democrat from Highland Park, hinted it could be time the board enters the debate on the national gun issue.)

Anti-conservatives, that is, anti-Republicans, have dominated the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) since at least the 1970s. They have allowed IRP platforms to have some conservative planks, including traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks, but they ignore, belittle, badmouth, demonize, denigrate, condemn, insult, slander, and/or libel those planks and those who support those planks. Obviously, since at least the 1970s, those who have dominated the IRP want to destroy the IRP and destroy those individuals, organizations, companies, and governments that support the IRP platform. Of course, those who have dominated the IRP since at least the 1970s oppose direct election of IRP State Central Committee members.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Speaking of sex, what about the male gender, asked Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton). She said a state created group should not be based on sex segregation and cited major media to prove her point. The Atlantic shows boys dominate in high school drop outs and learning disabilities, and the Washington Post revealed boys in America continue to fall behind girls in academics, according to Ives. Ives questioned the bill’s legality as far as the Equal Rights Amendment is concerned and noted as a mother of boys and a girl, the notion to form a group for one gender is ridiculous. “I think we should emphasize both of our children’s sexes, both men and women as well,” Ives said. HB5544 passed 64-24 and moved to the Senate.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— The U.S. and China: More Alike Than We’d Like? – Thomas L. Friedman
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/08/opinion/us-china-more-alike.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In Washington these days it is not uncommon for people to be invited to a dinner or a public gathering and think to themselves: “I hope none of them will be there.” And the them people are talking about is not someone of a different faith or race — which would be awful enough — but it’s someone just from a different political party. In other words, in both Beijing and Washington, self-censorship, and biting one’s tongue, is more rife than ever — but for different reasons. In Beijing it’s so you won’t get arrested. In Washington it’s so you won’t get into a fight. In both cases, though, the net results are fewer people talking truth across ideological lines. At the same time, in China today, if you’re a Communist Party official or senior bureaucrat, you have to toe the ruling party’s line or you could be quickly purged or imprisoned. In America today, if you’re a Republican Party congressman or senator, you, too, have to toe the ruling party’s line or you could be quickly purged or primaried — or get a tweet in the back from the president. But there is one difference: In China’s ruling Communist Party, it’s never safe to criticize the president. In America’s ruling Republican Party, you can criticize the president, or vote your conscience, if you’re dying, retiring or whispering.)
