AMERICAN GREATNESS
— McCain’s Friends and Family Did Him No Honor – Conrad Black
https://amgreatness.com/2018/09/04/mccains-friends-and-family-did-him-no-honor/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But the recourse by President Obama and Senator McCain‘s daughter to clearly hostile references to the incumbent president (who had facilitated the protracted funeral week with official favors) were in appalling taste. There was what amounted to an attempted hijack of the funeral of an authentic war hero and prominent senator, to convert it into an expression of anger and of contempt for the absent president. This campaign was torqued up all week by the Trump-hating media, who then gave maximum play to the gratuitous shots of Obama and Meghan McCain.)

LOS ANGELES TIMES
— More Americans are delaying retirement. But finding jobs when older isn’t so easy – LORI WEISBERG and MIKE FREEMAN (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, age discrimination has never existed, does not exist, and will never exist. According to my critics/opponents, if you have employment problems or other problems in life, those problems are never caused by age discrimination or by your complaining about age discrimination. According to my critics/opponents, if you have employment problems or other problems in life, it is because you are stupid, lazy, a White supremacist, a Nazi, a KKK member, a hater, a racist, a sexist, a bigot, of even worse things. They hint/imply/argue/shout that my Democrat superiors in the federal government took adverse actions against because I am stupid, lazy, a White supremacist, a Nazi, a KKK member, a hater, a racist, a sexist, a bigot, of even worse things. They hint/imply/argue/shout that I am no longer a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, and American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member because I am stupid, lazy, a White supremacist, a Nazi, a KKK member, a hater, a racist, a sexist, a bigot, of even worse things. Should I sue my critics/opponents?)
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-older-workers-20180903-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With a master’s degree in computer science and 30 years of experience working for technology companies, Tom Middleton had little doubt he would soon find new employment after losing his job a decade ago as a software engineering manager at Kyocera in San Diego. How wrong he was. After two years of submitting more than 300 applications for tech jobs and scoring only an occasional face-to-face interview, the then-59-year-old Middleton became convinced his age was a hindrance. He would hear feedback like “You’re overqualified” and “We can’t pay you what you’re used to.” As money grew tighter, house payments were missed and 401(k) savings were exhausted, he took minimum-wage jobs at Target and Walmart and tried his hand at income tax preparation. On a whim, he applied for a job as a bus driver — and was hired, now earning less than half his former six-figure salary. “I had some days where I just wanted to crawl in a hole,” Middleton, now 66, said of his job search. “I thought I’d be a bargain to someone, but they didn’t see it that way.” A growing share of baby boomers is opting to work well into what traditionally would be their retirement years, but the challenges of remaining employed or reentering the workforce at an older age, even in today’s tight labor market, haven’t necessarily eased. And even as Labor Department data show more people 55 and older are employed than ever before and have a lower jobless rate — 3.1%, compared with 3.9% for all workers — they remain out of work longer than their younger peers when they lose a job. On average, they’re jobless for about 37 weeks, compared with 25 weeks for workers ages 35 to 44, according to 2017 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Their hourly pay also starts to decline as they enter their 60s, regardless of how much education they have.)

https://abc7chicago.com/politics/labor-day-fun-mixes-with-politics-at-parades-festivals-/4137452/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The sound of music from marching bands filled the air in Naperville as thousands of people lined the streets to wave flags and cheer as they say their unofficial goodbye to summer. But with the drums of the November election beating louder every day, politicians were shifting gears into their busy season. Governor Rauner was shaking hands, and shaking off any talk of him not being for Illinois workers. “We’ve lost a lot of good paying jobs in this state for decades, we’ve been one of the slowest growing states and now the state’s around us are growing their union jobs and all their good paying jobs much faster than Illinois. We’ve got to be pro-worker by being pro-growth, pro-investment and pro-job creation,” Rauner said. JB Pritzker, Rauner’s rival, attacked the governor for his anti-union efforts at a labor picnic in Rock Island. “He’s about getting rid of unions, he’s about lowering the standard of living of people across the state of Illinois. We’ve got to create jobs in the state there’s no doubt about it, but if we don’t preserve our labor unions while we’re creating jobs we’re doing it wrong,” Pritzker said. In the 6th District Congressional race, which Democrats nationally have targeted to flip, Sean Casten was apologizing for comments that surfaced last week where he was heard comparing President Trump to Osama Bin Laden – but he was not apologizing for the underlying message. “We should be very afraid of a President who uses the tool that demagogues throughout history have used to say, if you are afraid, if you are disempowered, your problem is someone who doesn’t look like you and I’ll fix that,” Casten said. Incumbent Peter Roskam, who championed the President’s tax cut earlier this year, said he was not taking this race for granted. “But I think my opponent has a lot to answer for comparing the President to Osama Bin Laden and advocating nearly every tax hike conceivable,” Roskam said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Crete Monee Community Unit School District 201U reported 1,815 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education. The district transferred six students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them. According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 1,815 students during the year. That equates to 37 percent of the 4,910 students enrolled. Of the 1,108 in-school suspensions, 774 were given to boys and 334 were given to girls, including 781 elementary or middle schoolers and 327 high schoolers. The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 1,092 incidents. There were six incidents of tobacco. For 924 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less. Of the 707 out-of-school suspensions, 504 were given to boys and 203 were given to girls, including 456 elementary or middle schoolers and 251 high schoolers. https://dailycaller.com/2018/09/03/more-federal-employees-accountable-for-misconduct/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In our current system, the process for removing these bad actors is nearly impossible. According to data obtained by FedScope, only 0.5 percent of federal employees have been fired in recent years for poor performance or misconduct. Meanwhile, a 2015 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report revealed that once a decision is made to fire a federal employee, removing them from office can take between six months to a year, if not longer. Draining the swamp is not just fiscally responsible, it is absolutely essential to creating a lasting climate of accountability in our nation’s capital – which is the real battle we are fighting. Washington dysfunction runs deep. True change must uproot systemic injustices and remove those in government who perpetuate them. Meanwhile, all of us in government must begin insisting upon excellence and stop incentivizing ineptitude. This is the essence of the MERIT (Modern Employment Reform, Improvement, and Transformation) Act — a piece of legislation I am proud to co-sponsor. The MERIT Act allows for the expedited removal of federal employees who have either engaged in misconduct or who are failing to perform their duties. It also expedites the appeals process in the event these employees protest their termination.)

— Mexican flag flies proudly over town where illegal alien killed Mollie Tibbetts – Ed Straker
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/09/mexican_flag_flies_proudly_over_town_where_illegal_alien_killed_mollie_tibbetts.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When an invading army captures a town, they usually run up the flag, to show who’s in charge. But in America, we don’t need an occupying army. We do it to ourselves. Witness the town of Brooklyn, Iowa, where Mollie Tibbetts was murdered by an illegal alien, which proudly flies the flag of Mexico. According to the liberal media, Brooklyn was one big happy multicultural town, until conservatives ruined it by complaining about the illegal alien who murdered Mollie. Really. …police found Tibbetts’s body discarded in a cornfield. They charged Cristhian Bahena Rivera, a local farmhand, with her murder. And they announced that Rivera, who had no prior criminal history, was an undocumented Mexican immigrant. For most people in Brooklyn, though, Rivera’s legal status is a distraction. This time should be about Mollie, they say, not the man accused of killing her. This is the liberal line. On the statistically rare occasions when a white person kills a black, the liberal media can talk about nothing else other than the race of the accused. But when an illegal alien does the killing, they don’t want to talk about perpetrators. They treat it like the weather. It’s just something that happens.)

WASHINGTON TIMES
— The Democratic game plan – Robert Knight
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/sep/2/as-democrats-move-left-they-must-replace-the-ameri/
(
FROM THE ARTICLE: The “progressives”’ game plan to re-acquire power in Washington and make it permanent has been shockingly obvious for some time: Import millions of illegal immigrants, hook them on government aid and turn them into voters — legally or illegally. Two Democrats running for Congress in Texas have come out for decriminalizing illegal immigration, along with Beto O’Rourke, who is running for Ted Cruz’s U.S. Senate seat. Virtually all Democratic office holders oppose voter ID laws. In March, Nation magazine writer Sean McElwee called for abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), a demand repeated by “progressives” around the country. The Washington Post has editorialized against adding a question about citizenship to the U.S. Census, saying it looks “suspiciously like an underhanded way to depress Democratic representation in Washington.” Districts with high numbers of illegal aliens who cannot legally vote have an advantage because the Census determines congressional seats and presidential electors based on population. So, the more illegals, the merrier for Democrats. The Dems must replace the American electorate because their plunge into “free” government health care, “free” college tuition, open borders, confiscatory taxes, anti-police rhetoric, activist judges and bizarre sexual politics is alienating more and more “everyday” Americans. The left needs new voting blocs. It’s the only way they’ll stay competitive, especially when the Trump administration has the economy roaring like a Ferrari. Millions of evangelical Christians and moderate-to-conservative Catholics voted for Mr. Trump because they saw him as their best bet against a hostile Deep State and its media allies. Portions of the IRS, the FBI and other federal agencies had been criminally politicized under President Obama, and Hillary Clinton would have finished the job. With state power unchecked since the Reagan years, Uncle Sam has morphed into Nurse Ratched, presiding over a giant sanitarium. That’s the issue ignored by the media: Democrats are at war with normalcy of any kind and want to impose their cracked view of reality on the rest of us.)

— Companies Ramp Up Worker-Retraining Efforts Tight labor market pushes companies to invest in teaching current workers to do more sophisticated tasks – Austen Hufford (DIERSEN: Between 1992 and 1997, I paid for my own “worker-retraining.” In 1989, the Democrats who ran GAO’s Chicago office a) made it clear that they would never again assign me to audits of IRS and b) assigned me to audits of federal financial industry regulators. Between 1992 and 1997, I took graduate finance courses at IIT, and in 1997 earned a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT.)

Should I sue them?)
https://reason.com/archives/2018/08/28/how-trustworthy-does-facebook-think-you
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One new tool in Facebook’s bag of anti-“misinformation” tricks definitely ticks the “creep box”: Last week, the Washington Post reported that Facebook has been planning to assign a “trustworthiness score” for users on their platform for around a year. Users who are believed to more accurately flag news stories as valid or not will be given a higher score, while users suspected of flagging stories out of revenge or distaste—and thereby throwing off the algorithm—will be given a goose egg. The scale ranges from 0 to 1, and the system is now reportedly coming online. The new system is framed as a necessary augmentation of Facebook’s previous forays into third party-guided media ranking. In addition to partnering with self-deputized “fact-checkers” like PolitiFact and Snopes.com, Facebook created a button for average users to report when a story was “fake news.” The idea was that human feedback, provided by both “experts” and the wisdom of the crowds, would supplement the brittle fallibility of algorithms, leading to a better overall curation of what is being shared on Facebook.)

— Coming Soon to Facebook: Lots of Extreme Political Ads Campaign strategists say the social-media giant’s advertising platform rewards extreme messaging – Georgia Wells and Deepa Seetharaman (DIERSEN: Of course, you never have, and you never will see any kind of paid advertising in GOPUSA emails or on www.gopillinois.com. But if I did take money for such advertising, which activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. would take out ads in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails and on www.gopillinois.com? What would they would they promote with their advertising?)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/coming-soon-to-facebook-lots-of-extreme-political-ads-1535707802
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Campaign strategists are gearing up to flood Facebook with inflammatory and polarizing ads heading into the midterm elections, saying its advertising platform rewards extreme messaging more than other venues. Such tactics often backfire, partly because extreme ads can be hidden by those who find them disagreeable, Facebook Inc. said. The disconnect highlights the social network’s often-controversial role as a political tool, where Facebook wants to be viewed as a promoter of healthy debate while some believe its platform contributes to divisive civic discourse. Although Facebook didn’t start the trend toward more inflammatory political ads, many candidates and consultants working on midterm campaigns said its cost structure and ability to target narrow slices of voters makes it a uniquely effective tool for motivating people to act in support of a cause or a candidate. “You’re not trying to persuade anybody on Facebook,” said Jeff Roe, whose political-consulting firm Axiom Strategies is one of the biggest buyers of political advertising, largely on behalf of Republican candidates. “You’re trying to reach a different part of people’s brains.”)

However, that was a pretext. In 1989, they pulled out all the stops to get rid of me. They threw me off audits of IRS which were always in-town, assigned me to a nasty 6-month out-of-town audit, gave me unfair performance expectations, and gave me an unfair performance appraisal. The real reason why they did the aforesaid was that in 1988, I had become an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. Because of the aforesaid, in 1989, I asked Henry Hyde to come to my defense.)

https://www.lohud.com/story/news/2018/08/29/sell-date-employees-ageism-and-rethinking-retirement/1086814002/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ageism is widespread and is termed “an insidious practice which has harmful effects on the health of older adults,” by the World Health Organization. Political commentator Bill Maher famously called it the “last acceptable prejudice in America.” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg once publicly noted: “Young people are just smarter.” With 10,000 Baby Boomers reaching 65 every day — a trend which began in 2011 and is set to continue until 2029 — it is past the time to have a conversation around attitudes toward retirement. After all, since the time Social Security set the retirement eligibility age at 65 in 1936, life expectancy at birth has gone up by 20 years. . .Age discrimination occurs when an employer treats an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or her age, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. . .Ageism is hard to prove Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, which protects individuals who are over the age of 40 from discrimination in employment. Half a century later, age discrimination in the workplace remains notoriously hard to prove. Of the 18,376 cases filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2017, only 2.2 percent were found to have a “reasonable cause.” . . . 5 Signs of Age Discrimination (Source: AARP) According to the AARP, there are signs older workers can watch out for: Older workers are being fired or offered buyouts, and younger ones are being hired. The most common term for this is “culture fit.” You are reassigned to unpleasant duties. You start hearing tacky comments about your age. You stop getting raises. Your performance reviews tank.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new state law requires that schools provide a lunch to all students, regardless of their ability to pay. Area school officials say that just underscores what they’ve already been doing – but they appreciate the emphasis it puts on nutrition. The lunches are reimbursable with federal funds. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the bill into law this week. It provides that a school may not publicly identify or stigmatize a student who cannot pay for a lunch or who owes money on their account balance.)

http://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/August-2018/Why-Its-So-Hard-for-Republicans-to-Win-in-Illinois/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s possible to trace the divergent fortunes of the Republican and Democratic parties in Illinois by looking at the voting histories of two counties: DuPage, in the suburbs of Chicago, and Williamson, in Southern Illinois coal country. DuPage was once a bulwark of the Illinois Republican Party, having supported its presidential candidates since the days of Abraham Lincoln. After World War II, DuPage’s villages burgeoned with middle-class homeowners who had fled Chicago’s corrupt political machine, and considered Republicans the party of good government and fiscal responsibility. . .How times have changed. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won Illinois by an even larger margin than her husband, but she won only 12 counties, most of them in the Chicago area. She won DuPage County 53%-38%, and lost Williamson County 67%-28%.)

Needless-to-say, my Democrat GAO superiors who forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old should be jailed. http://www.pravdareport.com/news/russia/kremlin/29-08-2018/141468-putin_pension-0/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that one should introduce administrative and even criminal responsibility in Russia for dismissing employees of pre-retirement age. “I deem it necessary to introduce administrative and even criminal responsibility for employers for dismissing workers of pre-retirement age, as well as for refusing to hire citizens for work because of their age,” Putin said in a televised address to the nation in connection with the widely discussed pension reform in Russia. One should envisage such responsibility within in the framework of additional guarantees that will protect interests of older citizens on the labor market. Today, the retirement age in Russia is 60 years for men and 55 years for women. This retirement age was introduced during the 1930s. The need to raise the retirement age in Russia has been discussed for a long time already due to the increased life expectancy and the inability to provide a decent pension while the number of employed individuals in the country is decreasing, and the number of pensioners is growing. In most countries of the world, the retirement age is 60-65 years.)

One could argue that without DuPage County, Illinois would have to immediately file for bankruptcy. DuPage County is run by Republicans. One could argue that if more statewide candidates were elected from DuPage County, Illinois would not be having the financial problems that it is having. DAILY CALLER
— CONSERVATIVES AT FACEBOOK FORM ‘FB’ERS FOR POLITICAL DIVERSITY’ TO COMBAT COMPANY’S IDEOLOGICAL ECHOCHAMBER – Kyle Perisic (DIERSEN: Conservative Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains in Illinois should organize and form an association. It could be named the “Association of Conservative Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains of Illinois” or ACRPCI. In your township/ward and in your county, what percent of the Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains are conservative? What have they done that shows that they support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and the rest of the planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform?)
https://dailycaller.com/2018/08/28/facebook-political-diversity-james-damore/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: More than one hundred conservative Facebook employees have joined an internal employee message board to protest what they call the company’s “intolerant” liberal culture. The group, “FB’ers for Political Diversity,” was created last week, The New York Times reported Tuesday, and aims to promote ideological diversity within the company. Facebook’s workforce of more than 25,000 is viewed as largely liberal. “We are a political monoculture that’s intolerant of different views,” wrote senior Facebook engineer and group cofounder Brian Amerige in a post, The NYT added. “We claim to welcome all perspectives, but are quick to attack — often in mobs — anyone who presents a view that appears to be in opposition to left-leaning ideology.” Amerige’s post continues to criticize Facebook’s emphasis on racial and gender diversity and how it, along with the company’s overt liberal bias, threatens the “viability as a company.” Facebook banned a dissenting conservative group in December 2016, Business Insider reported in August 2017. The group, “Facebook Anon,” was an anonymous group chat for supporters of then-candidate Donald Trump. It was shut down for violating Facebook’s policies against anonymous accounts, but Business Insider reported that the talks “turned ugly and … alarmed management.” Amerige’s post echoes similar concerns of a memo former Google engineer James Damore wrote in August 2017 that criticized Google’s “ideological echo chamber,” The Daily Caller reported. “[W]e tear down posters welcoming Trump supporters. We regularly propose removing [tech investor Peter] Thiel from our board because he supported Trump,” Amerige wrote. “We’re quick to suggest firing people who turn out to be misunderstood, and even quicker to conclude our colleagues are bigots.” Amerige added that Facebook has made “all lives matter” a “fireable offense” and that human resources investigates anyone who dares “criticize Islam’s human rights record.” Amerige’s concerns are not without any evidence. Facebook cofounder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has donated to left-leaning campaigns in the 2018 and 2020 elections, The Daily Caller News Foundation reported on Aug. 23. Facebook also has a well-documented history of removing conservative content, some of which was restored with an apologized after public backlash. (RELATED: Facebook Flags New York Post Article About Trump Voters As ‘Spam’) Facebook has also removed videos and shadow banned content. Facebook apologize for mistakenly removing videos from the popular conservative page PragerU on Aug. 17, The Daily Caller reported. FB’ers for Political Diversity’s only rule is “if you attack a person’s character, rather than their ideas, you will be banned.”)

WASHINGTON MONTHLY
— Republicans Make a List of Trump Scandals They’re Covering Up – Nancy LeTourneau (DIERSEN: I worked for GAO 1980-1997. One could say that the Democrats who ran GAO in 1997 forced me to take their early retirement “offer” to punish Newt Gingrich.)
https://washingtonmonthly.com/2018/08/28/republicans-make-a-list-of-trump-scandals-theyre-covering-up/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What Newt saw to is what Paul Glastris and Haley Sweetland Edwards called, “The Big Lobotomy.” A quick refresher: In 1995, after winning a majority in the House for the first time in forty years, one of the first things the new Republican House leadership did was gut Congress’s workforce. They cut the “professional staff” (the lawyers, economists, and investigators who work for committees rather than individual members) by a third. They reduced the “legislative support staff” (the auditors, analysts, and subject-matter experts at the Government Accountability Office [GAO], the Congressional Research Service [CRS], and so on) by a third, too, and killed off the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) entirely…Since 2011, with a Tea Party-radicalized GOP back in control of the House, Congress has cut its budget by a whopping 20 percent, a far higher ratio than any other federal agency, leading, predictably, to staff layoffs, hiring and salary freezes, and drooping morale.)
— JUNE/JULY/AUGUST 2014 FLASHBACK: The Big Lobotomy How Republicans Made Congress Stupid – Paul Glastris and Haley Sweetland Edwards (DIERSEN: I worked for GAO 1980-1997. One could say that the Democrats who ran GAO in 1997 forced me to take their early retirement “offer” to punish Newt Gingrich.)
https://washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/junejulyaug-2014/the-big-lobotomy/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The third target of Gingrich’s attacks was the legislative support agencies. The Government Accountability Office, Congressional Budget Office, Congressional Research Service, and now-defunct Office of Technology Assessment operated on a bipartisan basis, offering measured reports on topics suggested by members themselves. Sometimes, these agencies act as helpful librarians, and sometimes they’re more like referees, carefully adjudicating among the competing quantitative claims of various members and outside groups. Gingrich, perhaps not surprisingly, viewed them all as potential rivals to his singular narrative.)

ENTREPRENEUR
— 6 Ways Healthy Office Competition Builds Teams and Improves Productivity – John Rampton (DIERSEN: When you got promotions, what competition did you face? GAO is in the legislative branch. My Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates had a very low opinion of executive branch employees like I was for almost 12 years (Post Office 1966-1969 and IRS 1971-1980). They always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I got promoted in 1972, 1973, and 1974 only because the IRS employees who I competed against for those promotions were inferior people. They always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that GAO would never have hired me in 1971, and if it had, it would never have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974. They stressed that I did not earn an MBA until 1976, that I did not pass the CPA examination until 1979, and that I did not earn a master’s degree in accounting until 1980.)
