(FROM THE ARTICLE: J.B. Pritzker, billionaire would-be governor, bought the historic mansion next door to his even bigger home on Chicago’s Gold Coast, let it fall into disrepair — and then argued it was “uninhabitable” to win what so far have been nearly $230,000 in property-tax breaks, records show. Pritzker, his wife and their two children live in a palatial, three-story home in the Gold Coast with more than 12,500 square feet of living space and a two-story coach house. They bought that for $14.5 million in May 2006 and spent an additional amount fixing it up — between $11 million and $25 million more, records show. Then, when the smaller mansion — designed in 1894 by the fabled architectural firm of Holabird & Root — went on sale, they bought that, too, paying $3.7 million. Retired banker Burton Gordon and his wife had lived in the 6,387-square-foot home for more than 40 years before selling it to the venture capitalist who’s now seeking the Democratic nomination for governor. Pritzker refurbished the outside of the Federal-style home, where the Gordons raised their family. But the inside has fallen into disrepair. The toilets have been disconnected, and the home has “no functioning bathrooms or kitchen,” according to documents Pritzker’s lawyers filed with the office of Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios. Arguing that the smaller mansion is “vacant and uninhabitable,” those lawyers convinced Berrios to slash its assessed value last year from $6.25 million to just under $1.1 million. That’s allowed Pritzker to get the nearly $230,000 in property-tax breaks and refunds, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis found. The drastically reduced assessment caused the mansion’s property taxes to plunge 83 percent, leaving Pritzker with a bill for $19,719 last year, the analysis found. That was instead of the $117,087 he otherwise would have had to pay in property taxes, which fund the Chicago Public Schools, the city and other local governments.)

WIREPOINTS
— Why Won’t Illinois Political Reporters Ask Meaningful Questions? – Mark Glennon  (DIERSEN: When a political reporter like me asks a politician a question that he/she does not like, that politician has their operatives and their dupes strike back viciously.  However, it is extremely difficult for politicians to strike back at political reporters who are protected by powerful employers like ABC7, NBC5, CBS2, Fox News Chicago, WGN, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, Crain’s Chicago Business, Springfield State Journal Register, etc. However, because I AM NOT PROTECTED BY ANYONE, it is extremely easy for politicians to have their operatives and their dupes strike back at me. I am no longer the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman. I am no longer a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member. I am no longer the Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster. I am no longer an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member. I am no longer an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member.  I should write a book about politicians in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois a) who have had their operatives and their dupes strike back at me viciously and b) who threaten to strike back at me even more viciously if I ask any questions. Operatives and dupes for politicians almost succeeded, but failed, in keeping me out of Roskam’s press conference Thursday evening, May 4, 2017, at Sanguinetti’s fundraiser at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton.)
http://www.wirepoints.com/why-wont-illinois-political-reporters-ask-meaningful-questions-wp-original/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It really wouldn’t be that hard to change the narrative in Illinois from fictional to real. If reporters would simply ask they’d receive, or if they didn’t receive they could expose the politicians who have no answers. But they don’t ask. Political reporting on the state and local fiscal crises in Illinois remains like classical theater: part tragedy, part farce and entirely fiction. Try Googling “Rauner and Madigan,” Rauner and Rahm” or anything similar. Most of what you’ll find is little more than a stenographer’s report on name-calling and spin. Headlines like these predominate: “Rauner says Emanuel is ‘biggest disappointment of his time as governor.’ “Emanuel calls governor ’emperor without clothes.’” “Rauner calls Madigan ‘disingenuous.’” “Madigan accuses Rauner of ‘trying to change history.’” “Rahm and Rauner’s personal war of words.” “Rauner, Madigan offer new buzzword on impasse.” “Rauner, Emanuel Take Credit For Job Project, Blame Each For School Funding.” Who gives a damn? Where are headlines like, “A side-by-side comparison of Rauner’s and Madigan’s five-year revenue and spending hopes”? Or, “Rahm explains why actual financial statements show huge city losses while his budgets show balance.” Or, “Candidates for governor specify how much new revenue Illinois needs.” You won’t find them because no reporter asks what’s needed, so Illinoisans go blindly to the polls. Reporters could start with Governor Rauner. His biggest failure is not laying out a credible, long term plan to put the state on a sustainable path. Shame on him for not offering one, but shame on reporters for not insisting on one. The same certainly goes for Rauner’s critics. Next would be every other candidate for governor. Ask them how much revenue would come from a progressive income tax and how much more top brackets would pay. Ask how much new revenue they think the state needs to raise. Those things are key because honest answers would expose with certainty that survivable tax increases won’t be sufficient. Ask Rahm what Chicago’s pension contributions will be in five years under the can-kicking legislation he has sought, and how the city would pay them. That’s when full contributions would kick in. And ask them all why none of them is talking about a solution for the $130 billion in unfunded pensions and $50 billion in unfunded healthcare liabilities for retirees (which would not be reduced materially under any proposals now floating around). Answers to those questions and similar ones are critical to the death spiral we’re in, yet nobody has a clue to the answers. The politicians will duck the questions, but the press must get insistent — they have to demand specifics and rip the face off anybody who offers only the usual, bland generalities. Part of the problem is that political reporters are, well, political reporters. They cover politics — who is saying what about whom, so-and-so’s new ad, who’s up in the polls, how much money they’ve raised, etc. Those are important matters, but they shouldn’t entirely crowd out the most basic policy questions. They’re not all bad, but rays of light are few. Chicago Sun-Times reporters cover Chicago financial issues well. The Chicago Tribune’s editorial board is among the few who understand the depth of the problems we face. The Bond Buyer gets the facts right, though it’s written for the narrow-minded municipal bond industry. Another election season is underway. Will challengers for governor be asked in three different debates whether they would live in the Governor’s mansion, as Rauner was asked last in the last cycle? Will putting ketchup on hotdogs again make the headlines? Will name-calling and spin fill the news? Reporters must be more than stenographers writing down what politicians say, or we’ll sink further into darkness. Ask the questions. It’s really not that hard.)

FORTUNE
— James Comey’s Severance Package May Be a Lot Less Than You Thought – Lucinda Shen (DIERSEN: Constructively, my Democrat GAO superiors have had me on reduced pay administrative leave since September 30, 1997.  So far, in today’s dollars, that has cost me $1,412,820 ($10,250/mo. salary minus $4,238/mo. pension times 235 months equals $1,412,820).)
http://fortune.com/2017/05/11/james-comey-severance-package/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On the silver screen, members of the intelligence community are rolling in the dough. Think James Bond and his multi-thousand dollar watches, fitted suits, and Aston Martins. But for former FBI director James Corey, the reality is a little less explosive. Comey was set to earn $172,100 of his base salary in 2017, according to data from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). He may have also been eligible to earn an additional $15,000 based on his performance in 2017. But then President Donald Trump fired Comey Tuesday night—and now Comey is looking at a severance package rather than his full annual salary. When CEOs running a company are dismissed, they are often given a severance package representing a big chunk, if not more, of their annual pay. For instance, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer earned $27 million in 2016 in stock, options, and cash. And after Verizon completes its purchase of Yahoo, Mayer will be out with a hefty additional $23 million as her golden parachute. If Comey were any other federal employee, he would receive a severance close to about $32,254 for his 3 years, 8 months, and 7 days of service at the FBI, and his 56 years and 7 months of age, according to the OPM website. But since Comey is a presidential appointee—his severance is, well, zero, according to the OPM. Not that the lack of severance would leave Comey financially unstable: At the time of his nomination in 2013, Comey’s net worth was estimated at more than $11 million, according to CNN. This was thanks in part to his cushy job at the world’s biggest hedge fund, Bridgewater, where he worked prior to joining the FBI. Comey is also not exactly leaving the FBI in disgrace. Hedge fund managers and politicians have come to his defense, while those on both sides of the aisle are questioning Trump’s rational for firing Comey. The attorney general’s office said the decision was due to Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton emails case, but critics are questioning whether or not Comey’s investigation regarding Russia’s influence on the U.S. election had something to do with it. Prior to Comey, the Trump administration abruptly dismissed Preet Bharara, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York; Sally Yates, former acting Attorney General; and Angella Reid, the former White house chief usher.)

ANSWER: Since 1988, I had been an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  I had always complained about patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  I was an old (49) non-veteran White male who had always been a conservative Republican. Employees in the office who were liberal, Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger talked and acted like they would leave GAO if GAO did not rid of its employees who were conservative, Republican, White, male, and/or older. Diersen could and would be used as an “example” to send a “message” to everyone a) that GAO gives tremendous preference to its employees who are liberal, Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran and b) that GAO does everything that it can to not hire and to get rid of its employees who are conservative, Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

ONE NEWS NOW
— A widening love-my-country gap from Democrats – Chad Groening  (DIERSEN: What do you say to those who discourage Republican activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. from supporting Wheaton’s Independence Day parades?)
https://www.onenewsnow.com/culture/2017/05/09/a-widening-love-my-country-gap-from-dems
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Longtime conservative activist Gary Bauer is concerned about the growing patriotism gap between the two major political parties in America. A recent Gallup poll found that fewer Democrats are proud to be Americans. The survey, conducted in March 2017, revealed 67 percent of Democrats are “extremely proud” or “very proud” to be Americans; that compares to 78 percent in 2016. There was little change among Republicans and Independents. In fact, the survey shows Republicans’ pride at 92 percent. Gallup reports the current 25-point gap in patriotic feelings between Republicans and Democrats is the highest in Gallup’s records. In January 2007, the party gap was 21 points. Gary Bauer of the Campaign for Working Families recently wrote on American Thinker that this patriotism gap is getting far less attention than it deserves. “There is a growing radical left in the Democratic Party,” Bauer tells OneNewsNow. “And there is a growing movement among young Americans who tend to be leaning toward the left politically who are not traditionally patriotic any longer.” Bauer thinks there are several reasons for that, including the anti-American history being taught in colleges and universities. “And then there’s this tendency on the radical left to see America as a country that oppresses people, that was built on slavery,” he says. “So it’s a serious issue when there is declining patriotism overall. It’s a serious issue when the left wing of one party seems to be declining in its patriotic feelings. “Bauer says it’s particularly troubling when younger Americans have lower levels of patriotism than any American generation in modern history.)

They made it clear to me that they would kill me figuratively, if not literally, if I did not take their “offer.”)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/the-watchdogs-why-cook-county-judge-quit-after-just-142-days/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I could have sat in the basement of the county building for years collecting over $200,000 a year in annual salary and benefits, all at the taxpayers’ expense, for doing close to nothing all day,” he says. “But I am unable to do that. That is not who I am as a person.” Cooke, 50, is a Loyola University-educated lawyer. He also owns carwashes and gas stations in Chicago that have city, county and state contracts. That would have posed a “clear conflict of interest” when those government bodies had cases before him in traffic court, he says. Because of those contracts, he says it would have been “a violation of the highest order of the ethical rules governing judicial conduct if I heard traffic court cases” and also if he presided over criminal cases. Generally in such cases, Illinois Supreme Court rules say, “As soon as the judge can do so without serious financial detriment, the judge should divest himself or herself of investments and other financial interests that might require frequent disqualification.” Cooke says he tried unsuccessfully to get his partners to buy him out but doesn’t think he needed to divest himself of his business interests because that would have caused him serious financial harm. He also says his brief stint in traffic court proved difficult because he’s dyslexic. “Using acronyms or reading handwritten cursive or sloppy printing is very difficult for me,” he says. “I had tremendous difficulty reading the handwritten tickets and charges that were the basis of why the defendant were in court.” To run for judge, Cooke had moved from River Forest to an apartment he owns above his law office near the Logan Square CTA train station. That qualified him to run last year in the county’s Sixth Judicial Subcircuit.)

http://dailycaller.com/2017/05/08/thanks-potus-for-breaking-up-the-annual-correspondents-circle-jerk/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As a newly elected president, Donald Trump was quick to take one of Washington’s institutional pillars down a peg. By snubbing the 2017 annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD), the president deflated what should have been more appropriately called the Sycophants’ Supper. Would that it was the last such supper. For now, the POTUS’s slap to this gathering of sycophants this past weekend will have to do. Like nothing else, the annual Correspondents’ Dinner is a mark of a corrupt politics. It’s a sickening specter, where some of the most pretentious, worthless people in the country—in politics, journalism and entertainment—convene to revel in their ability to petition and curry favor with one another, usually to the detriment of the rest of us in Rome’s provinces. Those gathered at the Annual Correspondents’ Dinner, or its Christmas party, are not the country’s natural aristocracy, but its authentic Idiocracy. No matter how poor their predictive powers, no matter how many times they get it wrong—in war and in peace—the presstitutes always find time for this orgy of self-praise.)

— BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS: Earnings Gap Over U.S. Workers Grows for S&P 500 CEOs – Reuters  (DIERSEN: Few, if any, of my critics/opponents, their operatives, or their dupes complain about this.)
https://www.usnews.com/news/top-news/articles/2017-05-09/earnings-gap-over-us-workers-grows-for-s-p-500-ceos-union-report
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The average S&P 500 chief executive made $13.1 million last year, 347 times more than the average U.S. worker, according to a labor group analysis released on Tuesday, up from 335 times as much in the previous year. The widening pay gap reflects a growing income inequality, according to the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of U.S. labor unions, which posted the latest figure on its website. The group used the survey release to highlight slow U.S. wage growth and the outsourcing of jobs to countries with lower wages. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said compliant corporate directors were at fault for enabling top executives’ pay, even when investor returns lag. “The system is rigged,” Trumka said in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday. “We think shareholders ought to become more active and lower those (executive pay raises), and that workers ought to get a bigger share of the wealth they produce.” The labor group’s annual study often draws notice as a measure of how U.S. workers largely are not sharing the economic gains of those at the top of the income scale, even as official unemployment remains low. Dissatisfaction among those workers was one reason many backed Donald Trump in last year’s U.S. presidential election.)

In my defense, I stress that my grandfather on my father’s side fought the Germans during WWI, that my uncles on my mother’s side fought the Germans during WWII, and that my father would have fought the Germans during WWII if he had not been 4-F.  Further, according to

NEW YORK TIMES
— Life and Combat for Republicans at Berkeley – THOMAS FULLER  (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government.  If I had been active in Republican politics while I was in school, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/08/us/republicans-at-berkeley-college.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On this famously liberal campus, it is easy to dismiss Berkeley Republicans as an oxymoron. Being a Republican at the University of California, Berkeley, is hard, conservative students say, a crucible of ideological combat. Some said they had been mocked, spat on and punched. Founded in the 1960s, the Berkeley College Republicans have remained a small and tightknit club, today numbering a few dozen active members. But Republican alumni have gone on to prominent jobs: Michael Anton is a senior national security official in the Trump administration. Alex Marlow is editor in chief of Breitbart News. Claire Chiara, a graduating senior and past president of the Berkeley College Republicans, was one of the youngest delegates to the Republican National Convention last year. The College Republicans made national headlines in recent weeks when the group invited Ann Coulter, the right-wing writer and provocateur, to speak. In February, anarchist protesters had violently broken up a planned speech on campus by the right-wing journalist Milo Yiannopoulos, and the university’s administration and the club haggled over a date and a “protectable” venue for Ms. Coulter; she ended up not coming. Berkeley’s Republicans have turned the tables on liberals at the campus, championing free speech and putting a conservative claim on one of the university’s proudest liberal legacies. Last month, the group and another conservative student organization sued administrators for what they said was discrimination against conservative speakers. They have co-opted the language of the left, portraying themselves as fighting intolerance. Not all Berkeley Republicans agree with their tactics — some describe it as unnecessarily provocative.)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/05/08/the-sammies-therapy-for-feds-during-tough-times-under-trump/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Federal employees could use some good news. With President Trump’s proposed budget cuts for many agencies and the planned elimination of 19 small agencies looming, the potential loss of thousands of jobs leaves feds anxious. So, the annual Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal finalists announcement comes at an appropriate time. While specific federal employees are nominated for the awards, they also point to the impressive work done by the workforce generally. Twenty-six finalists, including teams, will be acknowledged at a breakfast Tuesday in the Dirksen Senate Office Building as part of Public Service Recognition Week. The medal winners in seven categories, including federal employee of the year and the new “promising innovations” group, will be honored at a gala in September. “The federal innovators recognized for this years’ Service to America Medals represent the passion and hard work demonstrated every day by government workers throughout the country,” said Max Stier, president and chief executive of the Partnership for Public Service, the nonpartisan good government group that sponsors the awards. “Federal leaders must create a climate where talented people will want to serve in government and tap into the desire of young people to make a difference for our country. That starts by celebrating the many outstanding contributions that our nation’s civil servants are making for society.” But does that climate exist under Trump?)

BUZPAC REVIEW
— Trump signing statement ends federal goodies for minorities and women; treats all Americans equally – Tom Tillison (DIERSEN: To give preference to one group is to discriminate against another group.  To give preference to citizens of foreign countries, non-Protestants, Democrats, minorities, females, younger people, veterans, recent immigrants, etc. IS TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST citizens of America, Protestants, Republicans, Whites, males, older people, non-veterans, non-recent immigrants, etc.)
http://www.bizpacreview.com/2017/05/06/trump-signing-statement-ends-federal-goodies-minorities-women-treats-americans-equally-486532
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump included a signing statement when he signed the spending bill that funds the federal government through September that effectively puts an end to affirmative action when it comes to taxpayer-funded grants. Imagine that, treating Americans equally. Pointing to the Constitution, the president said he will treat programs established by Congress that give preferences based on race and sex for grants “consistent with the requirement to afford equal protection of the laws,” the USA Today reported. Provisions described as “impermissible forms of congressional aggrandizement in the execution of the laws.” The signing statement reads: “My Administration shall treat provisions that allocate benefits on the basis of race, ethnicity, and gender in a manner consistent with the requirement to afford equal protection of the laws under the Due Process Clause of the Constitution’s Fifth Amendment.” The Daily Mail reported on programs named in the statement: “The signing statement specifically mentions a $654 million set-aside for Native American and Native Alaskan housing block grants; a $34 million appropriation for the Commerce Department’s Minority Business Development Agency; more than $20 million to guarantee loans to historically black colleges and universities; and $15 million to boost payments to ‘native Hawaiian’ defense contractors.” All of which is sure to have minority groups and women crying foul… while millions of white American males feel a little more equal today. For the record, signing statements are not exclusive to the Trump presidency. The Washington Times reported that “Presidents [Barack] Obama and George W. Bush issued dozens of ‘signing statements’ spelling out areas where they disagreed with congressional intent in various legislation, and asserting their executive authority to carry out the law as they saw fit.” Other areas addressed on Friday include weapons programs, state and local marijuana laws and Guantanamo Bay.)

— GOP congressman supports covering pre-existing conditions, but only for people who ‘lead good lives’ – Adam Peck  (DIERSEN: Individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that promote risky/unhealthy/harmful/destructive/hazardous/dangerous lifestyles want to get rid of me.  The aforesaid promote LGBTQ activity, promiscuity, abortion, booze, gambling, pot, and even worse things.)
https://thinkprogress.org/gop-congressman-supports-covering-pre-existing-conditions-but-only-for-people-who-have-led-good-51944a953f0e
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But as Rep. Brooks sees it, being afflicted with a serious or life-threatening pre-existing condition is the price you pay if you don’t live a healthy lifestyle. “My understanding is that it will allow insurance companies to require people who have higher health care costs to contribute more to the insurance pool,” said Brooks. “That helps offset all these costs, thereby reducing the cost to those people who lead good lives, they’re healthy, they’ve done the things to keep their bodies healthy. And right now those are the people—who’ve done things the right way—that are seeing their costs skyrocketing.” . . . Rep. Brooks’ argument echoes a similar one made by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) several weeks ago when the House was debating the first version of Trumpcare. With a fancy chart by his side, Ryan bemoaned the unfairness of a system in which people who are generally healthy end up subsidizing the cost for people who need medical care. Why should healthy people shoulder some of the costs for sick people?)
