— Senior Democrats tout achievements as party’s generational divide widens – SCOTT WONG (DIERSEN: All my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes support the federal government’s “up-or-out” policy for its employees who are non-veteran, White, and/or male. Will political parties impose “up-or-out” policies like the federal government has for its non-veteran White male employees? For example, you would be “out” if you do not make a) township/ward party chairman or municipal/township/ward elected office by age 25, b) county party chairman or county elected office by age 30, c) state central committee member or state representative by age 35, d) state party officer or state senator by age 40, e) state party chairman, statewide office, U.S. representative, or U.S. senator by age 45, and f) RNC/DNC chairman, state governor, or U.S. President by age 50.)

— Impact of tax changes in 2018 – Elliot Raphaelson (DIERSEN: Government should encourage marriage and homeownership. Therefore, Roskam should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-201806192045–tms–savingsgctnzy-b20180619-20180619-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Other changes to the tax code will also impact taxpayer decisions. For example, starting in 2018, there will be a deduction cap of $10,000 on the amount of state and local income and property taxes, known as SALT. This limit is per-tax return, not per person. As a result, many couples who itemized in prior years will no longer have sufficient deductions to do so. For example, a couple that is eligible for the $10,000 deduction will need an additional $14,000 in deductions for charity, mortgage interest, medical expenses and so forth in order for itemizing to be worthwhile. The bottom line is that many couples will be using the standard deduction in 2018 who, in the past, would itemize.)
— The sorry history of journalists murdered in the U.S. for doing their job – Pat Morrison (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who have done the most to stop me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-newsroom-journalists-murder-fake-news-trump-charlie-hebdo-0702-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every day, and now more and more each year, newspaper reporters and radio, TV and online news reporters across this country get hate mail, hate email, even death threats. Some are preposterous; some are all too plausible. Within hours of Thursday’s murders, Buzzfeed writer Anne Helen Petersen tweeted, “I’ve had people email death threats, threaten to cut my dog’s throat, tell me I’d pay for my fake news.” We get these threats, but we never get used to them. A healthy tension between the press and politicians is as old as the country, and actually an important part of its governance. Once in a while, it gets dangerously, disastrously unhealthy. The second president of the United States, John Adams, threw newspapermen in prison under laws that, like English law, were broad enough to imprison people for almost any criticism of the government. Editors, publishers, a member of Congress and Benjamin Franklin’s publisher (who was also his grandson) were put behind bars, and countless other newspapermen were intimidated into silence, which is exactly what the targeting of journalists is meant to do: to shut them up. The election of Thomas Jefferson and the affirmation of the First Amendment soon put an end to this persecution. And today we have the sneering and insults from a presidential candidate who became the president of the United States. His “fake news” retorts try to diminish stories he doesn’t like, and the “scum” journalists who reported them. When he calls the press “the enemy of the people,” he is deploying the same term used by Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union to demonize the leader’s own enemies.)

— FBI: Man threatened July 4 attack at parade in Cleveland
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/fbi-federal-bureau-of-investigation-cleveland-arrest-parade/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Federal authorities say they’ve arrested a man who talked about setting off a bomb at a Fourth of July parade in Cleveland and attacking people watching fireworks. Officials said Monday that the man who’s an American citizen often expressed his support for al-Qaida and said he wanted to kill members of the U.S. military. Authorities have charged Demetrius Pitts with attempted support of a terrorist organization. There are no court records listing an attorney for Pitts, who lives in the Cleveland area and was arrested Sunday. FBI Special Agent Stephen Anthony says Pitts scouted out locations this past week for a site to attack in downtown Cleveland. Anthony says it’s not clear how close Pitts was to carrying out his threats, but he says authorities couldn’t sit back and wait.)

My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates at IRS 1971-1980 and GAO 1980-1997 always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that the graduate courses that I took a) were not job-related, b) did not help me carry out my job duties, c) were taken by me to get a job in the private sector, and d) were a distraction. To keep their jobs and to get promoted, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government focused on getting rid of federal employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180629/ISSUE01/180629833
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago companies in cutthroat competition for employees are dangling another perk: on-site MBA programs, courtesy of DePaul University. Walgreens Boots Alliance, Northern Trust and the parent of Blue Cross & Blue Shield are among employers that have paired with DePaul to offer discounted graduate programs—minus the after-work rush to campus. This is a “carrot” that companies can offer, says Suzanne Depeder, associate vice president for enrollment, management and marketing at DePaul. “As the economy has heated up, so does the job market, so companies are looking at ways of attracting and retaining their talent,” she says. It’s a plus for universities, too, especially those like DePaul facing enrollment and revenue declines. While many schools have tried on-site executive education, DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business has been more successful than most, attracting nearly 1,000 students and millions in company-subsidized tuition dollars since starting in 2013. Still, there’s a push-pull in such partnerships, and they don’t always survive. DePaul, the largest Catholic university in the U.S., with a total student headcount of nearly 23,000, saw its graduate schools gain students last year, even as its overall enrollment continued a six-year decline. DePaul cut 62 employees, or 3.5 percent of its nonfaculty staff, in June to “better position the university for the future,” it said. The Master of Business Administration is considered a must by many corporate climbers, and their employers often foot a portion of the cost. Eighty-five percent of U.S. employers plan to hire MBAs this year, down from 91 percent last year, according to survey results released in June by the Graduate Management Admission Council. The decline reflects more students seeking related, specialized master’s degrees in subjects like data science and computer engineering. Since DePaul launched its on-site Corporate Employer Outreach, or CEO, program, it has produced 421 graduates. An additional 374 are enrolled now, plus 155 coming this fall, Depeder says. An MBA from DePaul costs about $76,000, but the cost varies for on-site corporate cohorts, depending on the number of students, she says. Companies hosting DePaul’s program can tailor it to their business needs and knit together workers from disparate parts of their businesses. Employees miss out on networking with peers at other companies, but that might not be a bad thing in terms of retention.)

— DISGUSTING, TRAGIC: Federal Government Resources Used to Promote LGBT Pride – Penny Starr (DIERSEN: Democrats continue to run the federal government. To be a Democrat is to promote LGBTQ activity.)
https://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/07/01/federal-government-resources-used-promote-lgbt-pride/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Breitbart News tracked down some of LGBT Pride Month events across federal agencies, including National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Veterans Administration (VA), Library of Congress (LOC) and, the National Park Service (NPS): — The VA decided the best way to make sure veterans in the LGBT community feel comfortable seeking medical care was to put on a drag show, which traditionally is a parade of men dressing in women’s clothing and make-up. National Public Radio (NPR) reported the VA was taking a “particularly fabulous approach” for its Pride Month event, organized by the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont. “Welcome to the gayest show on Earth,” the MC said to open the show in NPR’s report. “But first, I just have to say the VA is here for its queers, and we are proud to serve all veterans,” the MC said. — The CIA celebration was extensive and overseen in Washington, DC, by its new director, Gina Haspel, according to its website: During our keynote event held at CIA Headquarters the first week of June, Director Haspel introduced Major General (MG) Tammy Smith, the highest ranking and first openly gay general in US history. Director Haspel described MG Smith, saying, “She refused to give in to discrimination, stayed riveted on her goals, and proceeded to blaze a trail that will go down in the history books. Today, Major General Smith is widely recognized as a pioneer in helping LGBT men and women to fully contribute—and fully belong—to the Army family.” This event is one of several CIA activities celebrating Pride Month, including participation in the Capital DC Pride Festival and the 7th annual IC Pride Summit, of which CIA was a founder. — The LOC said its collection of works by and about the LGBT community makes it a year-round celebration but in June the library featured discussions with authors who wrote books about homosexual romance. “The library’s month-long celebration demonstrates how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans have strengthened our country, by using their talent and creativity to help create awareness and goodwill,” the LOC website states. — NASA joined the San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade in June and also had a booth. A description of the event said: Please, stop by and say hello, take some funky photos using our infrared camera station. Learn about the autonomous helicopter that will soon be exploring the Red Planet, provided by our Aeromechanics division. Take a dive into a brilliant coral reef, brought to you by the Earth Science division. Get up close and personal with some flies and much more from our folks in the Biosciences division. Do not forget to grab a swag bag while supplies last. — The National Park Service has a striking photograph on its website of NPS employees — federal employees — marching with rainbow flags and celebrating the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City that was the scene of a violent clash between patrons and police in 1969 that is credited with starting the “gay rights movement” and was made a national historic monument during the Obama administration. This year NPS, according to a blog on its website, is already looking forward to next year’s Pride Month: June is Pride Month, and while Stonewall National Monument shares the unforgettable story of the 1969 riots year-round, this year kicks off a special countdown to World Pride in 2019. This annual event, which will be hosted by New York City in 2019, is the largest global Pride celebration. It will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and its pivotal role as the birthplace of the modern lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer civil rights movement.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A 60-year-old employee at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga auto plant has filed a class-action lawsuit in which he contends the company is using a rebranding effort to discriminate against workers once they turn 50. The law firm that filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court said the named plaintiff is Jonathan Manlove of Ooltewah, who is a former supervisor at the Chattanooga plant. Attorney Kevin Sharp said the company is trying to change its image to a “younger, sleeker company” after an emissions scandal that has rocked VW since 2015. The law firm said the company announced it was “becoming slimmer, leaner and younger” just before Manlove was demoted last year. The firm said he has sought other positions but has been rebuffed. Volkswagen spokesman Keith King said the company doesn’t comment on pending litigation.)

— Amazon Workers Facing Firing Can Appeal to a Jury of Their Co-Workers The hearing process has raised questions about fairness, according to workers and their attorneys. – Spencer Soper (DIERSEN: What would a jury of your co-workers be like? While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, virtually all of my co-workers disapproved of those who were conservative, Republican, draft avoiders, older, Protestant, and/or German American.)
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-25/amazon-workers-facing-firing-can-appeal-to-a-jury-of-their-co-workers
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Jane was working in Amazon.com Inc.’s Seattle headquarters when she was asked to a meeting with her manager and a human resources representative. They gave her a document outlining concerns about her work performance and spelled out three choices. She could quit and receive severance pay, spend the next several weeks trying to keep her job by meeting certain performance goals, or square off with her manager in a videoconference version of the Thunderdome, pleading her case with a panel of co-workers while her boss argued against her. Jane, who asked that her real name not be used to discuss a personal matter, chose the last one. The employee appeal process is Amazon’s latest experiment in managing its growing workforce of more than 500,000. When it announced the program last year, Amazon acknowledged it had been quick to fire people instead of trying to resolve problems in other ways. Executives recognized that poorly defined roles, dysfunctional teams, and peremptory managers were among the factors that often remained unexamined, according to a person familiar with the matter. Workers facing termination also lacked a forum to discuss such factors, the person says. Amazon is borrowing a page from union grievance processes that don’t apply to most corporate employees. But only about 30 percent of those who appeal their manager’s criticisms prevail, meaning they can keep their jobs or seek new ones within the company with different bosses, according to people familiar with the matter. Eighteen months after its debut, the hearing process has created resentment and raised questions about fairness, according to current and former workers as well as attorneys familiar with their situations. “It’s a kangaroo court,” says George Tamblyn, a Seattle employment lawyer who helped one former Amazon worker plan her appeal earlier this year. “My impression of the process is it’s totally unfair.”)

ANSWER: I included a link in a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email to an article by Tom Roeser in the Chicago Sun-Times that called for Bill Brady to withdraw so that the conservative vote would not be split and Jim Oberweis could defeat Judy Baar Topinka in the 2006 Illinois Republican gubernatorial primary. Topinka got 38% of the vote in that primary, Oberweis got 32%, and Brady got 18%. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., voted against a hard-line immigration bill on Thursday that failed on a 193-231 roll call, siding with Democrats as his Democratic rival, Sean Casten, is making a major appeal to Hispanic voters. Casten campaign manager Michael Garton told the Chicago Sun-Times that they project the Hispanic vote in the west suburban 6th Congressional District seat to be between five and eight percent, a big enough bloc to be a factor in the high- profile battle. Garton told me that the Casten campaign is “specifically targeting the Hispanic community,” and has been running immigration related ads on Facebook and websites. There were 193 Republicans who voted for HR4760, introduced by Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va. ANALYSIS Roskam was one of 41 Republicans to vote no, along with 190 Democrats. There were no Democratic yes votes. Roskam most often votes with the GOP majority. The other six Illinois House Republicans – Randy Hultgren; Adam Kinzinger; John Shimkus; Rodney Davis and Michael Bost – voted for the Goodlatte legislation. . .Roskam heads into the summer election fight with immigration a Casten priority issue, with about 2,900 Dreamers in the district, according to Garton.)

https://www.oneillinois.com/stories/2018/6/21/boxed-in
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new study finds that Illinois workers need to make more than $20 an hour just to afford a decent two-bedroom rental home. “Out of Reach 2018: The High Cost of Housing” was released this month as a national study localized by Housing Action Illinois. Working from a statewide average of $1,058 a month for rent and utilities for a two-bedroom apartment, the study projects that a resident spending the generally accepted 30 percent of income on housing would need to make a “housing wage” of $20.34 an hour to afford it. According to Sharon Legenza, executive director of Housing Action Illinois, it casts in relief how unaffordable it is to eke out a living at the minimum wage.)

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/06/22/government-can-more-easily-tell-fed-workers-re-fired-for-poor-performance-it-s-about-time.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: At the same time, I realized a few bad actors have given the federal workforce a bad reputation. Of course, “few” is a relative term. In a federal civilian workforce of 2.1 million, a “few” can equate to tens of thousands of nonproductive workers. And their impact is not only wasteful – it’s a real disservice to their hard-working colleagues. That’s why I produced a series of OPM reports that explored ways to attract high performers to the federal workforce. And it’s why I think President Trump’s recent action is so important. On May 25, the President issued three executive orders that will do much to protect outstanding federal workers from the comparatively few “bad apples” in their midst. One order holds nonproductive workers more accountable for unsatisfactory performance and speeds up the disciplinary process. This fixes what has become a seemingly never-ending appeals process that has made it extremely difficult to remove those who are guilty of poor performance or misconduct.)

They stress that before that, a) my GAO superiors gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) my IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) my Democrat Post Office superiors would stress that they forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

LIFE SITE NEWS
— 48 conservative groups demand media, tech companies disavow Southern Poverty Law Center – Calvin Freiburger (DIERSEN: Of course, I would have signed this letter if I had been asked. Since 2000, I have led a conservative group. It is called “GOPUSA ILLINOIS Email Readers.” However, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, etc. They stress the conservative leaders in Illinois who have never come to my defense. The only legitimate reason to read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails is to get information to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance the Illinois Republican Party platform.)
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/48-conservative-groups-demand-media-tech-companies-disavow-southern-poverty
(FROM THE ARTICLE: 48 conservative organizations joined forces Wednesday to call on governments, corporations, and media to cut ties with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), in light of the group’s recent surrender in a major defamation case. SPLC’s ostensible mission is to monitor hate groups, but is notorious for applying the “hate” label to mainstream Christian, pro-family, and conservative groups. Earlier this week, it admitted defeat in a defamation suit brought by the British-based Quilliam Foundation. SPLC issued a public apology for labeling the group “anti-Muslim extremists” and agreed to pay $3.4 million. The new letter, signed by representatives of the Family Research Council, the Ruth Institute, Liberty Counsel, Eagle Forum, and more — all of whom have been “maligned, defamed, and otherwise harmed” by SPLC’s “groundless epithets” — cites the settlement as the latest reason for disavowing SPLC.)

— Rebuking Trump, Senate panel okays federal pay raise, but House plans big hit on pensions – Joe Davidson (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my critics/opponents who have painted themselves the most strongly as being a) anti-federal employee and b) anti-federal retiree.)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2018/06/21/rebuking-trump-senate-panel-okays-federal-pay-raise-as-house-plans-big-hit-on-pensions/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the House, Budget Committee Republicans proposed taking from federal workers by cutting $145 billion from their pensions over 10 years — that’s $1.5 billion more than Trump wanted. . .Greater contributions by individuals with no increase in benefits amounts to a cut in compensation. Creating parity with private-sector employers that have already whittled away or ended pensions is the opposite of progress. If parity is the goal, encourage the corporate world to offer better retirement. . .Womack adopted recommendations by a 2010 panel informally known as the Simpson-Bowles Commission. In addition to the points mentioned in the budget document, the commission also recommended reducing pensions by basing them on the highest five years of earning for new employees, instead of the highest three, which is now the case. The budget plan also calls on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to find $32 billion in savings, which likely would result in another hit on federal employees’ wallets. With recommendations like these, federal employee organizations are preparing for a fierce fight against the House GOP budget plan.)
— Why do we need more people in this country, anyway? – Michael Anton (DIERSEN: All my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes want cheap labor. They despise lowly workers like I was 1964-1997. I did yard work and delivered newspapers 1962-1964; washed dishes 1964-1966; cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966; delivered mail 1966-1969; worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard in 1970; sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances 1970-1971; pumped gasoline 1971-1972; collected delinquent taxes 1971-1980; and audited federal agencies 1980-1997.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: After at least two decades of wage stagnation and even decline, now that we’ve finally reached the nirvana of full employment (and who knows how long it will last), why not take advantage of this tight labor market to raise wages across the board? Especially for the working and middle classes that got nowhere or even lost ground during the housing, finance and tech booms of recent years? Just about everyone knows the answer: because the business community does not like tight labor markets and the concomitant necessity to raise wages. That’s bad for the bottom line. The solution? More workers! And so the Chamber of Commerce annex — a.k.a. Capitol Hill Republicans — dutifully attempt to do their donors’ bidding at the expense of their voters’ interests. . .It’s clear what the oligarchs get out of an endless influx of cheap labor. What the Democratic Party gets is also clear: more voters, and with them the tantalizing possibility of turning the country as irreversibly blue as Democratic policies have already done to New York, California and many other states.)

The properties include a 6,870-square-foot mansion on a half-acre lot in Winnetka; two units, including a penthouse, in a luxury high-rise overlooking Millennium Park; a waterfront villa in the Florida Keys with a 72-foot-long pool; ranches in Montana and Wyoming; a condo in an upscale Utah ski resort; and a penthouse overlooking Central Park in New York. “Bruce Rauner owns nine homes and he’s appealed his property taxes 22 times, but now he’s attacking someone else for the same thing? In 1970, when I was 21 years old, after I earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU, I accepted the only job offer that I got – working for the Firestone Store in Chicago Heights. I was draft bait. Potential employers did not believe that my application for a financial hardship would be granted. Further, employers were under tremendous pressure to hire minorities, females, and veterans. 7 months later, after my draft deferment application had been approved, my Firestone boss fired me when I told him that I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. But Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS. IRS offered me the job because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take it.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— First look at U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam’s opening TV ad of the general election race (DIERSEN: All those who my Democrat GAO superiors assigned me to supervise 1980-1997 were disabled, minority, female, veteran, and/or were employees who they wanted to get rid of.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Its focus is on what Roskam voted against, a change to the American Disabilities Reform Act, which he says would have thrown up obstacles for individuals with disabilities seeking accommodations. “Our fellow citizens who are disabled bear a heavy burden in their mobility. The law should not make it more difficult on them,” Roskam said in a statement. He faces Democrat Sean Casten in November.)

— University of Washington settles lawsuit, agrees to pay Republican group $122,500 – Mike Ciandella (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps threaten violence. Ever-increasingly, Trump supporters are buying firearms and ammunition for their self-defense.)
https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/06/19/university-of-washington-settles-lawsuit-agrees-to-pay-republican-group-122500
(FROM THE ARTICLE: UW College Republicans planned a rally on Feb. 1 with the group Patriot Prayer. The college determined that the rally was a security risk, and demanded that the club pay $17,000 in security fees. This made the event unaffordable for the College Republicans, who argued that this amounted to suppression of their right to free speech.)
— Trump demanded biased FBI agent be fired – he’s just been escorted from the FBI building – Carlos Garcia (DIERSEN: Starting in late August of 1997, when I was 48 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors started talking and acting like one or more Democrat politician had demanded that I be forced to take early retirement.)

— Elon Musk Accuses Tesla Employee of Sabotage – Neal E. Boudette (DIERSEN: The Democrats who run the federal government hint/imply/argue/shout that their efforts to hire, to retain, and to promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females are sabotaged by their employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who they did not promote to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)

— Matching Job Program To People Most in Need – Jeffery C. Mays (DIERSEN: Ya’seen Madyun, 22, wants “a job that pays anywhere near $50,000.” In 1971, when I was 22 years old, I took a job that paid only $45,703 in today’s dollars. I had earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970 and I had worked for Firestone Stores as a Retail Sales Manager for 7 months.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/19/nyregion/nyc-jobs-de-blasio-poor.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Since graduating two years ago from a small private high school in Queens, Ya’seen Madyun has completed a culinary training program and has attended security training courses, all in the hopes of landing a job that pays anywhere near $50,000. In January, Mr. Madyun, now 22, sought assistance at one of the city’s Workforce1 centers. He said he was directed toward an opening at a Family Dollar on New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn, a good 90-minute subway ride from his home in Far Rockaway, Queens. When he arrived, 15 people were already waiting to apply. “I’m used to a line,” Mr. Madyun said, adding that he never heard back about the job. He knows many young people in his neighborhood who are in a similar situation. “They want a full-time job,” he said, “anything 9 to 5.” It has been a year since Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a $1.5 billion New York Works program aimed at creating 100,000 jobs paying $50,000 or more over the next decade. The program is designed to tackle what the mayor calls an “affordability crisis” by creating jobs in fields such as technology and life sciences.)

IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.
