(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times is having fun implying that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s effort to replace ObamaCare is at odds with Mr. Ryan’s Catholic faith. The column is of a piece with the “Jesus was a socialist” arguments that bounce around the left half of the social media universe. Without wrestling with any difficult questions of faith or logic, Mr. Kristof simply casts the federal bureaucracy in the role of Jesus. Then the Timesman proceeds to suggest through satire that by seeking to reduce outlays and improve incentives in federal programs, Mr. Ryan is defying the will of his God. Of course if federal agencies were ever actually given the statutory mission to do as Jesus would do, Mr. Kristof would be as horrified as anyone. But this seems to be a political season when people who spend much of the year driving religion out of public life abruptly drag it back in as they attempt to justify big government. It’s not necessarily persuasive. The ancient book has numerous admonitions to perform charity and various condemnations of greed, but it’s not easy to find a passage in which Jesus says that government is the best vehicle to provide aid, or that anyone should force others to donate. Even casual readers of the Bible may notice that Jesus doesn’t get along all that well with the political authorities of his time and (spoiler alert!) his relationship with government ends rather badly. Back then, tax collectors were not presumed to be the dedicated public servants that we appreciate so much today. And in our own time, social conservatives who think the U.S. Government has become hostile to religion—Christianity in particular—should consider what Jesus had to put up with.)

Incumbent board President Donna Smith of Hanover Park, and incumbent trustees Veronica Noland and Cody Holt, both of Elgin, face challengers Melissa Owens of Bartlett and Enoch Essendrop of Elgin for three 4-year term seats on the Elgin Area School District U-46 board April 4 hosted by the district’s Citizens’ Advisory Council. At a February school board meeting, Holt and board member Jeanette Ward voted against adoption of the new curriculum, which Ward said had a “pervasive liberal bias.” Ward quoted the following passage about discrimination from the textbook “Macgruder’s American Government”: “White Americans have been historically reluctant to yield to nonwhite Americans a full and equal place in the social, economic and political life of this nation. Over time, the principal targets of that ethnic prejudice have been African-Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Americans and Hispanic Americans. The white-male-dominated power structure has also been slow to recognize the claims of women to an equal place in American society.” She said it “smacks of racism against white males.” The curriculum was approved by a 5-2 board vote. Essendrop, 19, a student at Providence Baptist College in Elgin running on a similar platform as Holt, said he shared Ward’s perspective. “I can’t believe that we find ourselves in the 21st century still judging people by the color of their skin and not the content of their character,” he said, paraphrasing the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. “We need to stop putting people in different groups and admit that we are 100 percent Americans.” Noland, 50, an alumna of the district’s Hispanic Parent Leadership Institute elected to her first term in April 2013, rejected Ward’s notion. “I believe my fellow board member’s comments are actually quite racist,” she said. “I’m opposed to censorship of materials … you head down the road toward book burning and I am completely opposed to that.”  She added, it is wrong to impose a “narrow ideology” over an entire school district. The Federal Employees Health Benefits, or FEHB, Program basically allows all of Washington’s elites to enroll in any plan they choose — at very favorable rates (which can be negotiated because of the vast size of the federal plan’s membership). So, if that plan is now the plan for all Americans, what about those who cannot afford to pay for coverage at all? Mike always said provisions must be enacted to assure that the poor will have subsidized coverage. And the near-poor and lower middle classes would receive supplemental aid on a sliding need-based scale. But the beauty of this plan is that it can be done without massively restructuring the entire health sector economy. So that’s where it merits bipartisan backing — yes, even here in the political hate-city of Washington. When the ACA was enacted, it required all legislative branch employees (including senators, representatives and their staffs) to purchase coverage through the ACA networks in their states or Washington, D.C. So your senators and reps can’t buy into FEHB anymore. But all executive and judicial branch employees still get their coverage through FEHB. And, as the U.S. Office of Personnel Management website proclaims: “Federal employees, retirees and their survivors enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country.” That still sounds like a great place to start.)

A Department of Education study states that “Black students are suspended and expelled at a rate three times greater than white students.” But was the study covering disparities in just one school? Or were some data gathered from schools in peaceful communities and other data from schools serving as substitute gang battlegrounds? Again, all of the details matter. An important part of the White Privilege concept is that you can’t lose it, avoid it, or fix it. You’re guilty of racism just by living. This is important for activists, for guilty people are easily manipulated, and you’ll keep doing whatever the accusers ask for. Finally, the White Privilege concept creates its own definition of racism. The common definition of racism judges a person on their thoughts, words and deeds. The White Privilege version says that you’re guilty because the accuser doesn’t like how society is currently structured. These advocates are moving the goalposts to encourage a political and social reengineering of America. So what do we know about White Privilege? It can take six months or longer for an application to be reviewed. But the government announced Friday that, as of April 3, it will suspend the “premium processing” option, which ensures an application will be reviewed within 15 days. It costs $1,225. Trump has accused companies of abusing the H-1B program as a way to hire foreign workers who take jobs away from Americans, at lower salaries. The Trump administration says it’s doing away with quick-turn processing so it can sort through a large backlog of applications and try to “reduce overall H-1B processing times.”)

(FROM THJE LETTER: After four years of national malaise, conservatives were devastated by the presidential election results of 2012 even though they recaptured the House and Senate. While this was a definite setback for Democrats, the incumbent president defiantly declared he had a phone and a pen to enact his vision for America. The progressive reaction to the presidential election of 2016 is something to behold. Unlike conservatives, they destroy property, hold hate rallies, and spread a blizzard of lies, vulgar invective and fake news. The left wants to silence or destroy anyone who doesn’t fit in. They use terms such as the subject is settled, the discussion is over or the subject is not politically correct. This helps their lemmings avoid the headache of independent thought or objective inquiry. The national debt is never mentioned because it might cause the naïve to realize that America cannot afford the benefits that we currently enjoy. World-citizen progressives lobby for open borders and amnesty; this will provide excellent competition for the race to the bottom in jobs, wages and benefits, etc. Progressives’ idea of multiculturalism supports anti-western cultures and laws which document (in writing) a terrible human rights and antidemocratic record. They call it diversity. Qualified conservative professionals have about a one in 14 chance of gaining employment in the news media or academia. Does that sound democratic to you? Before this bias destroys America, laws like Equal Employment Opportunity must be passed. Perhaps readers will notice that world-citizen progressives avoid addressing the economy, existing unenforced laws, patriotism, borders, security, debt control and time-honored ethics, etc. What do they really have in mind, not even their lemmings know?)
