— Chicago vets denounce Iran war, urge current service members to resist. DD: Many, most, virtually all, and at times all of my Democrat superiors and supervisors in the federal government were Democrat veterans who blamed Republicans for America losing the Vietnam War. They especially blamed me because I was a Republican, I was 1-A for the draft, and I had avoided the draft with four student deferments and a financial hardship deferment. Further, they hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I was an unmitigated disgusting coward because I probably would not have been sent into combat because I could not run because I had a bone disease, because my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, and because I had partial red/green color blindness. They took many big adverse actions against me.

Brendan Carr aims to reshape TV programming by requiring that broadcasters serve “the public interest” as he defines it, which evidently precludes news coverage that annoys the president. DD: My critics/opponents want to stop me from sending out my GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters. Failing that, they want to stop everyone from reading my newsletters. Failing that, they want to pressure/threaten me into a) including links in my newsletters only to article that they approve of and b) stop me from including my comments in the newsletters. DAILY HERALD
— DuPage clerk’s election loss won’t end legal fight with county board
https://www.dailyherald.com/20260319/news/dupage-clerks-election-loss-wont-end-legal-fight-with-county-board/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Despite losing her reelection bid, DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek says she will continue with an appeal challenging recent court rulings in her ongoing feud with the county board. The Glen Ellyn Democrat has been locked in a yearslong battle with the board over how she runs the county clerk’s office and how bills get paid. That fight ended up in court and was a key factor in why the two-term incumbent found herself facing a challenger in the Democratic primary election. On Tuesday, DuPage County Board member Paula Deacon Garcia defeated Kaczmarek to become the Democratic nominee for county clerk. In November, she will face Republican Patricia Kladis-Schiappa, an attorney from Burr Ridge. Deacon Garcia and Kladis-Schiappa both say they would end the legal battle with the county board if they are elected. However, Kaczmarek will continue to serve as county clerk until the end of November. In the meantime, she says she intends to pursue an appeal she filed earlier this year. “The need for clear legal standards to govern the relationship between different elected offices is of much greater and wider consequence than the results of any individual election,” Kaczmarek said in a statement. Noting that a DuPage judge sided with the county in two recent rulings, a spokesman for the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said the office will “continue to vigorously defend the county in this matter.” Kaczmarek has argued that multiple opinions issued by the Illinois attorney general’s office have supported the contention that elected officials have internal control over their office. In addition, Kaczmarek claims the county has tried to require her office to make unnecessary budget transfers in order for bills to be paid. County board members counter that they don’t want to tell Kaczmarek what to do. However, they say the county can require its elected officials and department heads to follow basic accounting procedures and state laws on bidding. Still, Kaczmarek insists that the county board and the state’s attorney’s office “continue to mislead the public regarding the fact that they are simply ignoring” everything that the attorney general’s office has advised. “There must be independence of county officers from county board interference,” Kaczmarek said. “Nothing has changed regarding the need for higher courts to clarify whether every attorney general’s opinion on these issues for decades has simply been wrong. The rest of the state is operating under different rules than DuPage County.” The county board filed a lawsuit in 2024 seeking a judge’s order to compel Kaczmarek into compliance with county accounting procedures for bill payments. At the time, Kaczmarek would not fill out the requested paperwork for budget transfers to get bills paid, arguing that it wasn’t necessary because there was enough money in her budget to cover the expenses. Last August, a judge ruled in the county’s favor and compelled Kaczmarek to follow the county’s accounting procedures. Then in December, the same judge ruled against Kaczmarek’s request for summary judgment, where she argued contracts with two election-related vendors were exempt from bidding rules because they fell under professional services. In January, Kaczmarek’s attorney filed the notice of appeal challenging both rulings. On Wednesday, Kaczmarek’s attorney, Ken Florey, said legal briefs from both sides should be filed in the coming months. He was hopeful a ruling could be issued before the November election. DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek released the following statement Wednesday after her election loss: “The DuPage County Board and State’s Attorney continue to mislead the public regarding the fact that they are simply ignoring everything the Attorney General’s Office has advised for over 40 years. There must be independence of county officers from county board interference. Nothing has changed regarding the need for higher courts to clarify whether every Attorney General’s opinion on these issues for decades has simply been wrong. The rest of the state is operating under different rules than DuPage County. The need for clear legal standards to govern the relationship between different elected offices is of much greater and wider consequence than the results of any individual election.”)
— What Americans are giving up to afford ACA health insurance. DD: Ever since I became a federal employee when I was 18 in 1966, my critics/opponents have been increasingly furious that the federal government has paid 72% of my health insurance premiums. Since I got married when I was 29 in 1978, they have been increasingly furious that the federal government has also paid 72% of my and my wife’s health insurance premiums. I should write about my critics/opponents. I would focus on those a) who never qualified themselves to become a federal employee, b) who would never stoop to take a federal job, and/or c) who despise/hate federal employees.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lately, Priscilla Brown has had to choose between properly managing her Type 2 diabetes and affording other necessities, like gas in her car. Some days, she takes half or a third of her prescribed insulin dose — just to stretch it out longer. “Sometimes I don’t even take my medicine,” said the 48-year-old truck dispatcher in Orlando, Florida. “It’s so much with insurance, it’s crazy.” About 8 in 10 Americans, like Brown, who re-enrolled in Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage say their health care costs are higher this year, including about half who say their costs are “a lot” higher, according to a new survey from the health care research nonprofit KFF. A main reason for increased costs was the Dec. 31 expiration of enhanced tax credits that had offset premiums for most enrollees. For Brown and others, those spiking costs are having real impacts on daily life. Of the 1,117 Americans surveyed who had ACA marketplace coverage in 2025, including those who dropped coverage or changed plans, about 55% said they’re planning to deal with health care costs by cutting spending on food and other basic household needs.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The headline number is stark: only about 33 percent of Illinois Republicans’ own modeled voter base showed up to vote. According to voter data, just 561,000 Republicans cast ballots in the primary. Campaign voter models estimate there are approximately 1.69 million Republican-leaning voters in Illinois. That means two out of every three Republican voters stayed home. By comparison, Republicans turned out about 47 percent of their base in 2022 – marking a 14-point drop in enthusiasm in just four years. Meanwhile, Democrats moved in the opposite direction.)

By the time I got married when I was 29 in 1978, I had worked for IRS for almost 7 years and my salary was $110,066/year in today’s dollars. I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976 and I was taking graduate evening accounting courses at DePaul. I lived in a one bedroom condo in the Outer Drive East building that I had bought in 1976. I was renting out a town home in University Park that I had bought new in 1972. I owned a 1972 Corvette that I had bought new in 1971. Things that impressed me about my outstanding wife included that her first job after high school was working for the FBI. She soon became the Corporate Secretary for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions. She did much to help elect Big Jim Thompson governor in 1976. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from DePaul in 1986.

The share of Americans who are married has fallen significantly since 1960, with a further decline portended by the marriage rates of the younger generations.)

Far too many Republican organizations and candidates seek, accept, and/or give money to/from organizations and candidates that reject some, many, most, if not virtually all the planks in the Republican Party platform. Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend their platform. The Republican Party platform is conservative. I should write about the aforesaid organizations and candidates. I would focus on those that have sought/accepted/given the most aforesaid money and that have made it the most clear that they reject the personal responsibility, traditional marriage and family, right to life, immigration, anti-vice, Second Amendment, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Republican Party platform. I would focus on the aforesaid that have taken the most/biggest adverse actions against me. since 2000.

Ever since I became a part-time postal employee when was 18 years old in 1966, my critics/opponents have been furious that the federal government has paid 72% of my healthcare insurance premiums. They have been even more furious ever since I got married I was 29 years old and the federal government started paying 72% of my wife’s healthcare insurance premiums. That 72% subsidy is a major reason why people despise/hate federal employees, federal retirees, and their spouses. POLITICO
— Orice Williams Brown is queued up to lead GAO. Brown will take over as acting head of GAO in a few weeks. DD: Dodaro and Brown know full-well that GAO a) wasted my career, b) forced me to retire when I was 49 years old in 1997, and c) replaced me with my Black subordinate who had less work experience than I had, who had less education than I had, who had one professional certification while I had six, and who had no professional license like the one I had.
https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/12/10/congress/the-federal-governments-next-top-watchdog-is-queued-up-00685439
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When Comptroller General Gene Dodaro steps down later this month as head of the Government Accountability Office, he plans to pick the agency’s chief operating officer as his acting successor. Orice Williams Brown will replace Dodaro beginning Dec. 30, the day after his 15-year term ends at the helm of GAO, the agency confirmed Wednesday. She will be the first woman to serve in that role. The acting comptroller general will take over amid the agency’s ongoing investigations into President Donald Trump’s withholding of billions of dollars in federal cash. GAO is also under increased pressure to sue the Trump administration for impoundment and has been publicly derided this year by some top Republicans who accuse the agency of being unobjective. After Brown replaces Dodaro, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is supposed to put together a list of candidates for Trump to consider nominating for Senate confirmation to the role. The acting GAO head is allowed to be included on the roster, as Dodaro was when he served in an acting capacity prior to being confirmed in 2010. Brown has worked at GAO for more than 30 years and currently runs day-to-day management of the agency’s work helping Congress carry out its constitutional responsibilities. Before serving in her current role, she headed congressional relations for the agency.)
GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE
— Exit interview: GAO’s Gene Dodaro talks impoundments, tenure and retirement priorities. The outgoing comptroller general reflects on leading the agency through national crises, building a skilled workforce and guiding federal oversight before his term ends Dec. 29. DD: Dodaro knows full-well that GAO a) wasted my career, b) forced me to retire when I was 49 years old in 1997, and c) replaced me with my Black subordinate who had less work experience than I had, who had less education than I had, who had one professional certification while I had six, and who had no professional license like the one I had.
https://www.govexec.com/oversight/2025/12/exit-interview-gaos-gene-dodaro-talks-impoundments-tenure-and-retirement-priorities/410114/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In this exit interview, Dodaro discusses what it’s like to lead a workforce of “trained critics,” how to build relationships with an array of political figures and GAO’s future, particularly as it runs into conflict with the Trump administration over impoundments, which is when the executive branch delays or withholds congressionally approved funding. . .I’ve prioritized making sure we have a very robust internship program here at GAO. We usually bring in about 200 interns every year. It’s one of our main pipelines for future development of the GAO workforce. . .We have over 3,000 highly trained professionals of virtually all disciplines. Financial auditing is only about 10% of what we do. The rest of it is performance audits. We need economists. We need subject area experts in defense, healthcare, transportation, etc. We have actuaries. We have scientists. We have computer security experts, acquisition experts, so we have a wide range of subject area technical experts. . .We do work that supports over 90% of the standing committees of the Congress. There’s a wide footprint, so you have to have somebody who can manage a multidisciplinary workforce on a portfolio of work that transcends across the federal government’s activities. They have to be a person that can work with these highly trained people at GAO. . .I leave behind me a very strong workforce. The GAO workforce is among the best in the world. I have total confidence in them, but you need somebody who can come in and understand how they carry out their activities to make continuous improvement, as I’ve tried to do over my time.

As of March, 2025, only 14% of U.S. workers were covered by a defined benefit pension plan, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. These plans are far more common among government employees and retirees. In fact, nearly 86% of state and local public sector workers have access to such a pension, according to Congress. And in 2024, 56% of retirees reported receiving pension income, according to the Federal Reserve. Depending on your age and your employer, a defined benefit pension could significantly shape your retirement outlook. The guaranteed monthly income offers stability, but it brings unique considerations for tax strategy and estate planning.)

— Trump takes his affordability agenda on the road. DD: What did you do to afford things? I took bad jobs that my peers would not stoop to take. I did yard work 1962-1964. I delivered newspapers 1962-1966. I washed dishes 1964-1966. I cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966. I delivered mail 1966-1969. I worked on an automotive assembly line in 1970. I sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances 1970-1971. I pumped more gasoline 1971-1972. I collected delinquent taxes 1971-1980. I audited federal agencies 1980-1997. According to my critics/opponents, I was grossly overpaid for those jobs and my pension and retirement benefits are much too generous. To qualify myself for better paying jobs, I earned a job-related bachelor’s degree, three job-related master’s degrees, six job-related professional certifications, and a job-related professional license.

— Ageism in the Job Market Is Real. DD: I have been fighting ageism since I was 25 years old in 1974 when my Democrat IRS superiors deemed me to be too old to be promoted to GS-13. I ultimately did make GS-13, but not until I was 38 and had a) earned an MBA when I was 27, b) passed the CPA examination on my first attempt when I was 30, c) transferred to GAO and earned a master’s degree in accounting when I was 31, and d) passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt and became a licensed CPA when I was 32.

LOS ANGELES TIMES
— Skeletons in your closet? No problem, you can be a GOP candidate. DD: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. The Republican Party platform is conservative. Voters demand more from Republican candidates than from Democrat candidates. They demand even more from Republican candidates who state that they are conservative. Candidates can always run as Independents. Should political parties have the power to stop candidates from seeking offices as a member of their party? If so, what criteria should be used? Far too many candidates have tremendous skeletons in their closets. When those skeletons come out, not only do they lose, but the party that they ran under loses. When their skeletons come out, far too many Republican candidates blame me and blame my GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters. But nothing has ever been in my newsletters that was not already in the public realm and/or was already known by the Democrats. Democrat leaders have always falsely claimed to have first learned of Republican negatives from my newsletters. Far too many who are involved in Republican activities are Democrat plants.

DESERET NEWS
— DD: Democrat leaders ever-increasing destroy traditional marriage and family. Under the Democrats, fewer and fewer and fewer people are marriage material. What helped make you marriage material? By the time I got married when I was 29 in 1978, I had worked for IRS for almost 7 years and my salary was $108,978/year in today’s dollars. SEE: https://gopillinois.com/documents/

HEALTH INSURANCE
— Does health insurance cover IVF and other fertility treatments? DD: I should write about my critics/opponents who have used against me the most my and my wife giving up trying to have children without trying IVF, our not adopting, and our not becoming foster parents. According to them, if we had children, I would not have been able a) to pass the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, b) to earn a master’s degree in accounting in 1980, c) to pass the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, and d) to become a licensed CPA in 1981. The aforesaid enabled me to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980 and to get promoted by GAO to GS-13 in 1986. Would Duckworth agree with my critics/opponents, and if so, why? Duckworth stresses what she has accomplished since she successfully used IVF.

— There’s a war on the bachelor’s degree. Can anything replace it? DD: If I had not earned a bachelor’s degree in 1970, I would not have been able to a) earn an MBA in 1976, b) pass the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c) earn a master’s degree in accounting in 1980, d) pass the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, or e) become a licensed CPA in 1981.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/careersandeducation/ar-AA1PaQoQ
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ever since the government began tracking the share of the American population with a bachelor’s degree, that figure has grown. At last count, about 2 million people across the country were receiving one each year. But a loose-knit movement has emerged that wants to dramatically reduce the number of these degrees issued by U.S. colleges and universities. Republican politicians and conservative firebrands have made that goal explicit. Christopher Rufo, whose ideas have been a driving force behind the Trump administration’s assault on higher education, told the Wall Street Journal that he wants to see the number of Americans enrolling in four-year colleges cut in half. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has said Americans should be rethinking the role of a four-year degree in American life — perhaps reserving it to train people for a small number of professions. The message is also coming from elsewhere. Randi Weingarten, the head of the American Federation of Teachers, which is strongly aligned with Democrats, urged New York Times readers to “stop trying to make everyone go to college.” During her presidential campaign, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris said that if elected, she would get rid of any unnecessary degree requirements for federal jobs. And it’s not just rhetoric. Congress recently opened up more government funding for students who want to pursue very short-term programs. In its settlement with the White House, Brown University agreed to pay $50 million to workforce-development organizations. President Donald Trump has said he’d like an agreement with Harvard University to include funding for trade schools. In a document laying out their workforce strategy, Trump administration officials said “the ‘college for all approach’ has failed” and pledged to use the might of the government and its funds to bolster alternatives. A growing number of colleges and universities are looking to appeal to those who doubt the value of a traditional bachelor’s degree by offering three-year programs. In a perhaps more subtle attack on college-going, changes coming from the Republican megabill passed this summer will, for many people, make student loans harder to repay. The war on the bachelor’s degree is the culmination of a broad skepticism of higher education that has been building for years. Factors like rising student debt and high-profile examples of people becoming successful without a degree have helped fuel questions about the value that colleges and universities deliver. Peter Thiel, the prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist, has been paying high-achieving kids to skip college through his fellowship program since 2011. There’s reason to be concerned. About half of students who earn a bachelor’s degree from a public or private nonprofit four-year college use debt to finance it, borrowing roughly $30,000 on average, according to the College Board. That’s manageable if you have a job, but the unemployment rate for young college graduates is the highest it’s been in more than a decade, outside of the pandemic, and colleges broadly don’t appear equipped to prepare students for a labor market powered by artificial intelligence. Still, the proponents of tearing down the bachelor degree from its prominent role in American life offer few viable substitutes that can be applied broadly today, experts say. The absence of widely available good alternatives to achieving financial stability means a bachelor’s degree remains the best shot at a decent financial life for many Americans. In the next seven years, the U.S. will need 4.5 million more workers with at least a bachelor’s degree, according to Georgetown University’s Center for Education and the Workforce. Right now, more than 500,000 students from the top half of their high school class don’t go on to complete a college credential every year, the center found. “All else being equal, getting a bachelor’s degree is still going to be the best return on investment for most students,” said Rajeev Darolia, an economist at the University of Kentucky who is studying the returns for alternatives to the bachelor’s degree like shorter-term programs. “It also leads to potentially more flexible and lucrative career paths.” He added: “What worries me is that we could be diverting students away from investments, longer-term degrees that are likely to have higher returns,” noting that he’s particularly concerned about poorer students being pushed toward the cheaper option.)
