http://wgntv.com/2017/04/04/suburban-mayor-and-trump-backer-in-tight-re-election-race/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — A longtime suburban Chicago mayor who held a fundraiser for President Donald Trump last year was holding on to a narrow lead in his re-election battle with a union organizer backed by top Democrats. With all precincts reporting late Tuesday, Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar held a 62-vote lead over Will County Commissioner Jackie Traynere. The county clerk’s office said vote by mail ballots postmarked by April 4 and provisional ballots remain to be counted. The vote tally will be made official April 24. Traynere spokesman Tom Bowen acknowledged because of the number of outstanding votes, Traynere is facing an “uphill battle.” “Jackie called him and congratulated him on a great race,” Bowen said. Claar did not return telephone calls seeking comment late Tuesday.)

— Some Suburban Elections Still In Question With Many Close Races – Bernie Tafoya
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/04/05/some-suburban-elections-still-in-question-with-many-close-races/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Tuesday’s suburban elections saw a handful of possible upsets and several tight contests, with some races for mayor separated by only a handful of votes. In southwest suburban Bolingbrook, incumbent Mayor Roger Claar faced his strongest challenge in years, triggered by his support for President Donald Trump. Last September, Claar invited the then-presidential candidate Donald Trump to a fundraiser at the village-owned Bolingbrook Golf Club. Democratic mayoral candidate Jackie Traynere is one voter who hasn’t forgiven Claar. “We went and petitioned the Mayor with 1,100 signatures and we asked him not to invite Donald Trump here [Bolingbrook]. We didn’t feel his message of hate was in step with the community,” Traynere said. Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton, won 66 percent of the vote in Bolingbrook, but Claar appeared to hold on for a narrow victory on Tuesday. He led by 104 votes, according to unofficial vote totals in Will and DuPage counties, but Claar acknowledged the race likely won’t be decided for a couple weeks.)

http://www.gopusa.com/?p=22702
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal has teamed up with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to introduce a bill that would make four-year public college free for families making less than $125,000, and make community college free for all. The $600 billion cost would be funded by a tax on Wall Street speculation. The College for All Act would also reduce student-loan debt by cutting all student- loan interest rates for new borrowers in half; enable existing borrowers to refinance loans based on the interest rates available to new borrowers; and prevent the federal government from profiting off the student-loan program. Its sponsors say the bill would reduce student debt by allowing existing federal aid to cover other college costs, including books, housing and transportation. It would require states and tribes participating in the program to cover the full cost of college for their poorest students. It would also increase the size of work-study programs. The bill’s co-sponsors, all Democrats, include Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. It’s been endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the American Association of University Professors, among others.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s harder to get a good job In 2016, according to data from the Economic Policy Institute, the unemployment rate for college grads was 5.6%, only a tenth of a point higher than the pre-recession rate in 2007. Not too shabby. What’s a concern, though, is underemployment — a figure that includes jobless people looking for work, part-time workers who want to go full time, and unemployed people who have recently given up looking. The current underemployment rate for young college grads? 12.6%. A three-percentage-point jump from 2007. The picture is worse if you don’t have a college diploma: The underemployment rate for high school grads is 33.7%. (in 2007, it was 26.8%.)
