One need only visit a shopping mall in Burr Ridge or a youth baseball game in Barrington Hills to see throngs of the white, highly educated voters who are the electoral backbone of the area, and once voted solidly for presidential candidates like Mitt Romney. But if these voters have leaned right in the past, drawn to promises of lower taxes and smaller government, Mr. Trump has pitched many of them back in the other direction. In Illinois’s Sixth Congressional District, the president’s combustible persona and administration have put Republican candidates in dire peril. Jane Melvin, 55, said she has typically voted Republican in the past and still yearned for a version of the party that has been fading away. “If John Kasich was running in my district, I would vote for him,” said Ms. Melvin, referring to the right-of-center Ohio governor who routinely chides Mr. Trump. Ms. Melvin said she had long supported her congressman, Peter Roskam, but was reconsidering this year because Republicans had failed to check the president. “It’s a character question and a silence question,” she said. “Because they won’t stand up to Trump and say this is wrong.” Mr. Roskam, a former member of the House Republican leadership team, represents one of 21 seats where college-educated white suburbanites could upend the Republican majority in the House. Most of these seats, in relatively homogenous communities around cities like Minneapolis and Philadelphia, are seen as electoral toss-ups. In 2016, Mr. Roskam easily secured re-election by nearly 20 percentage points, but Mrs. Clinton carried the area in the presidential race by about seven points. A Times/Siena College poll found Mr. Roskam effectively tied with his Democratic challenger, Sean Casten, a clean-energy businessman. Mr. Casten has closed in on Mr. Roskam with help from voters like Karrie Sullivan, a former Roskam supporter who said she now favors divided government — both in Washington, where Republicans are in charge, and in Illinois, where Democrats may take full control of government in November. “It seems like the best situation is when neither party has complete control,” Ms. Sullivan said. (FROM THE ARTICLE: John McGlasson, central committeeman for Illinois’ 16th Congressional District believes the Republican Party is attempting to torpedo the re-election of Rep. Jerry Long (R-Streator) in a campaign to rid the party of anyone not in lockstep with Gov. Bruce Rauner. “[The Illinois GOP] targeted me and three others in our run for Central Committee (last spring),” McGlasson told the Illinois Valley Times. “I saw what dirty tricks they can play. Bob Winchester knows this too.” Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) ran against Winchester in the race for Republican State Central Committeeman in the15th Congressional District. The Republican Party declared Rose the winner after tallying votes by acclamation and not individually, a procedure that counters both Illinois Election Code and party rules, according to the Prairie State Wire. Winchester challenged the results, but the case is still languishing in U.S. district court. Despite being targeted by the party, McGlasson, Mark Shaw in the 10th district, and Fred Floreth in the 13th district all won their races for Central Committee. Shaw went on to cut a deal with the party and is now state co-chair. Long doesn’t talk the “same line” as Rauner, who trails Democrat J.B. Pritzker by double digits in the polls, McGlasson said. “It’s my opinion that Rauner believes the only way he can win this thing is to have everyone talking the same line and get only those targeted votes to come out,” he said. Rauner, McGlasson added, isn’t looking for a big turnout out but a select one. “He has to be hoping for a big snowstorm on election day,” he said. The Republican party recently dropped support for Long, including funding from the House Republican Organization (HRO), after it was “made aware of allegations into Rep. Long’s behavior,” according to a statement by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin. The accuser, an HRO employee, accused Long of harassment. Long quickly released a statement saying he was only guilty of having a different perspective on HRO’s level of support for his race and that he will continue campaigning at a grassroots level. “This is not sexual harassment of any kind but merely a difference of opinion on the lack of support by the Republican Party that goes back several months,” Long said. “At this time I have no intention on pulling out of the race because this just proves that I’m not a part of the ‘Good Ole Boys’ club.” Long is expected to release another statement after consulting with his lawyers, a source said. McGlasson and local Republican leaders in the 76th district recently met and reaffirmed their support for Long. “It’s unimaginable to me that they (GOP) would cede such a hard-won seat,” McGlasson said. In 2016, Long defeated Andy Skoog (D-Utica) by 607 votes. The Democrats had held the seat for decades. On Nov. 6, he faces off against Democrat Lance Yednock of Ottawa.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Brett Kavanaugh, who the day before yesterday was an unimpeachable pillar of the legal establishment, stands accused of a heinous offense that is almost impossible to definitively rebut. Even if he is completely innocent of the charge that he sexually assaulted a teenage girl at a high school party 36 years ago, he will be forever considered guilty of it by some portion of the public. This is not due process, or any kind of decent process at all, but how the Senate conducts its business, especially if you are a conservative jurist on the cusp of confirmation to the Supreme Court. A 51-year-old research psychologist named Christine Blasey Ford went public with the accusation in a Washington Post interview over the weekend, saying she feared for her life when the teenage Kavanaugh attacked her. The charge was inevitably viewed through the prism of #MeToo. But it lacks the credibility of allegations that have felled powerful men over the past two years. There is no contemporaneous corroboration. There is no pattern of conduct on the part of Kavanaugh. There is no weaselly, “Well, I don’t remember it that way, but I’m sorry if she was offended” denial; Kavanaugh rejects the charge categorically. Contrast the allegations against, to take a Republican from another moral universe, the Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore. A key accuser from decades ago told friends about her relationship with Moore at the time. There was more than one allegation — indeed, Moore had a reputation for unsavory interest in teenage girls. When he first reacted to the stories, Moore gave a mealy mouthed denial.)

My accusers would hint/imply/argue/shout that I am “guilty as charged” if the following failed/refused to defend my integrity: a) past and present Milton Township Republican Central Committee, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, Illinois Republican Party, TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Center Right Coalition, American Association of Political Consultants, etc. members; b) past and present GAO, IRS, Post Office, etc. employees; c) defendants in lawsuits that I have filed; d) all the candidates who have been on Republican primary ballots in my precinct since 2000, e) etc.)
