(FROM THE ARTICLE: As World Magazine editor Marvin Olasky points out in the publication’s Sept. 3 issue, “Millions of Americans are here because their ancestors signed ‘declarations of intention’ similar to what Trump is suggesting.”  Olasky found the declaration of intention Albert Einstein signed in 1936. He became a U.S. citizen four years later. Here is what it said: “I will, before being admitted to citizenship, renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty. … I am not an anarchist; I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy.” Olasky writes that his immigrant grandfather signed a similar declaration in 1914. A century ago, he says, “anarchist” was the equivalent of today’s terrorist. Some anarchists planted bombs, one assassinated President William McKinley. Olasky continues: “Since Sharia law allows and even proposes polygamy as an act of justice, U.S. law excluded Muslims who embraced it. There were to be no divided loyalties.” In order for Utah to enter the Union, the state had to renounce polygamy, a doctrine believed and practiced at that time by some Mormons. President Obama is admitting people into America who believe in Sharia law, and the polygamy it allows. “No divided loyalties” was the key phrase in Olasky’s last sentence. How long ago and far away that seems today when our loyalties are more divided than at any time since the Civil War. Diversity has replaced unity and hyphenated identifiers now divide races and ethnic groups. “Out of many, one” is fading as our national motto. Out of one, many, is rapidly becoming our new one. Much of mainstream media fuel the division because conflict sells. They promote our flaws instead of the phrase from “America the Beautiful,” one of our great patriotic hymns, “God mend thine every flaw.” Instead, too many seem intent on exposing, even promoting, new flaws and dividing us further. Who will love America if we don’t? Who will sacrifice their lives for freedom if not us? We had better realize America is something special, or risk losing it.)

The inspector general’s investigation determined that IDOT often filled the jobs with politically connected candidates to perform tasks related to those functions, but they ended up doing routine jobs, such as answering phones and mowing lawns, and therefore the posts should have been open to anyone.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic candidate for the 18th Congressional District blasted his Republican opponent Tuesday morning for using taxpayer money to promote his campaign. Junius Rodriguez said Republican U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood of from Dunlap committed “abuses of power” allowed by incumbency by opening a new office in Bloomington and sending a taxpayer-funded promotional mailer a few months before the election. He promised to introduce bills in Congress to eliminate both practices in the run-up to an election. While LaHood’s staff defended his opening of an office at 3004 General Electric Road in Bloomington on Monday as a way to improve constituent service, Rodriguez called it an example of LaHood using taxpayer money to promote his re-election campaign. “When a politician makes this type of decision just 10 weeks before a contested election, it is hard to view it as anything more than a crass political ploy to score points using the taxpayer’s dime,” he said Tuesday at a news conference at the McLean County Democratic headquarters in Bloomington.)

— Fewer Unions, Lower Pay for Everybody  If organized labor were as strong today as it was in the late 1970s, nonunion men without a high-school diploma would be earning 9 percent more, according to a new study. – ALANA SEMUELS  (DIERSEN: Virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes are vehemently anti-union.  They do not own/drive vehicles that were made by union employees.  They stress that I was a union member for almost 12 years.  They hint/imply/argue/shout a) that because of unions, the Post Office hired me in 1966, b) that because of unions, the Post Office was not able to get rid of me for almost 3 years, c) that because of unions, IRS hired me in 1972, d) that because of unions, IRS promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974, and e) that because of unions, IRS was not able to get rid of me for almost 9 years.)

— Trump to appear next month at suburban Chicago fundraiser – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-donald-trump-illinois-fundraiser-met-0831-20160830-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will appear at a big-dollar luncheon fundraiser Sept. 12 in Bolingbrook. A copy of the fundraiser invitation shows tickets for the event at the Bolingbrook Golf Club ranging from $1,000 per person to $250,000 per couple. The top tickets include “prime seating” a “photo opportunity” and a place at a special “VIP roundtable” even prior to the luncheon, which is co-hosted by the southwest suburb’s mayor, Roger Claar. The event will start at 11:30 a.m. with the special roundtable, followed by a noon luncheon, according to the invitation. Among other hosts are Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Chicago businessman Ronald Gidwitz, who is a finance chair of the Trump Victory effort. Proceeds go to Trump Victory, a joint fundraising committee that benefits the presidential campaign, the RNC, and 11 state Republican Party operations. Illinois is not among them. The Bolingbrook event comes after Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, last week canceled a scheduled Chicago fundraising dinner for the Republican presidential ticket and the RNC.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Trump hits Bolingbrook Sept. 12 for fundraiser – Lynn Sweet
http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/trump-hits-bolingbrook-sept-12-for-fundraiser/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump hits south suburban Bolingbrook for a Sept. 12 fundraiser targeting major donors from Indiana and the Chicago area. The organizers are Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar; Illinois Trump Victory Chair Ron Gidwitz; Dan Dumezich, the Trump-Pence Victory Indiana Finance co-chair; and Robert Grand, the Trump-Pence Victory National Finance co-chair. The contribution tiers on the invite for the lunch at the Bolingbrook Golf Club range from $1,000 to $250,000. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, the GOP vice presidential nominee, canceled an Aug. 23 fundraiser that was to have been in Chicago’s Loop. Trump Victory is a joint fundraising committee created by the Trump for President Committee, the Republican National Committee and 11 state GOP parties, not including Illinois or Indiana. This will be first time Trump has been in Illinois since July 12, when he headlined a fundraiser at his Trump International Hotel and Tower at 401 N. Wabash in Chicago. Trump was in Chicago the Friday before the March 15 Illinois primary, but he never surfaced publicly because he canceled a rally at the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion when protests erupted.)

— Trump To Attend September Fundraiser In Bolingbrook
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/08/30/donald-trump-bolingbrook-fundraiser/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump plans to return to the Chicago area next month for a fundraiser. Longtime GOP fundraiser Ron Gidwitz confirmed he will be co-hosting a luncheon for Trump on Sept. 12 at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. Details on the event were not immediately available. Trump hasn’t been seen much around Chicago since his aborted campaign rally at UIC in March. He canceled his March 11 rally at the UIC Pavilion amid security concerns, after thousands of protesters and supporters faced off outside. Trump said he decided to cancel the event after meeting with law enforcement officials, but Chicago police said they never met with the Trump campaign, nor did they suggest canceling the rally. Police and protesters clashed outside the UIC Pavilion after the event was cancelled. Four people were arrested and at least one officer was injured. A few days later, Trump returned to Illinois for a campaign rally in Bloomington. Trump flew into Chicago in July for a private fundraiser at the Trump International Hotel & Tower, although he didn’t make a public appearance.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20160830/BLOGS02/160839989/trump-plans-big-fundraiser-in-bolingbrook
(FROM THE ARTICLE: GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump is due to hit the Chicago area on Sept. 12 in search of big campaign cash. But it’s unclear how much of a response the event will get from the Republican business establishment here. Invites that went out overnight say Trump will star at a luncheon at the Bolingbrook Golf Club; tickets will go for as much as $250,000 a couple. A mere ticket (with no photo op) will cost $1,000. Proceeds will go to Trump Victory, which will share the take with the Republican National Committee and some state parties. What’s interesting about the invite is the lack of big local names that usually show up in the weeks before a presidential election. Of the six hosts listed, three are national figures, including RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. Of the other three, one is Trump’s Indiana finance co-chair and two are from Illinois: businessman Ron Gidwitz and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar. One source close to the event confirmed that some frequent givers are taking a pass. But sponsors still are hoping to raise multiple millions of dollars. The Trump campaign did not respond to an email as to whether the New York businessman has anything else on his schedule. The event will be his second stop in the Chicago area since his spring event at the University of Illinois at Chicago that ended up being canceled amid raucous protests. The second event, in July, was at the downtown Trump Tower.)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://federalnewsradio.com/federal-drive/2016/08/surprise-people-still-hate-the-government/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you are just back — whether from an exotic vacation or an economical stay at home — welcome. You haven’t missed much. It won’t take long to bring you up to speed. So here it goes: Congress, which was gone when you left, is still away on one of its many extended 2016 breaks. Appropriations bills (again) have not been passed, so we will have the whole CR (continuing resolution) thing to deal with to avoid a government shutdown just before the election. Despite its dismal track record, experts predict that 90 percent of all incumbents — House, Senate, Democrats or Republicans — will be reelected, as per usual. If you are a white collar fed, a 1.6 percent pay raise is still on track. Congress could raise or lower it, but they probably won’t. With two months to go in the cost-of-living adjustment countdown, federal-military-Social Security retirees are looking at a very, very small COLA in January. The exact amount won’t be announced until mid-October. As of today, it stands at 0.23 percent. No new word on buyouts or early retirement offers. After four years in the works, the phased retirement program is up and running, in some places. So far, fewer than 100 feds have applied for the part-time mentoring program. Many workers say it’s not from lack of interest, but that their agencies aren’t offering it. Something else, what was it? Oh yes, the American public still hates you. Or at least has the most negative feelings toward the government of any other organization or profession. You rank even lower than lawyers and the media.)

— 7 Reasons Why Trump Would Hate Being President  He couldn’t fire people every day—and he’d actually have to master the details. Boring!
– Howard Schweitzer  (DIERSEN: Even though I am a non-veteran White male Republican who complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination: a) it took almost 3 years for my Democrat Post Office superiors to get rid of me; b) it took almost 9 years for my Democrat IRS superiors to get rid of me; and c) it took almost 18 years for my Democrat GAO superiors to get rid of me, even though I became an active member in a class action lawsuit against the agency after I was there 9 years.)
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/08/7-reasons-why-trump-would-hate-being-president-214192
(FROM THE ARTICLE: 1. You’re (Never) Fired. Presumably Trump thinks he can run the government like he ran things on “The Apprentice” – telling people that he deems not up to snuff that they’re fired. That may be how his campaign works with its revolving door of staffers and campaign managers. But the federal bureaucracy isn’t the Trump Organization. In order for his agencies to carry out his agenda, he’ll need the help of thousands of civil servants to do the work–people protected by federal employee union rules and regulations that are not accountable to any administration. Presidential historians have written time and again about how unprepared incoming presidents are to manage the bureaucracy, and Trump will be no different—just far more frustrated than most. Trump simply can’t fire any bureaucrat on the spot even if they perform incompetently. There’s a whole process in place that governs the removal of civil-service employees, and most linger on long after a complaint has been filed. Equally difficult will be hiring people. All presidential appointees need to meet federal ethics requirements, FBI background checks, and other security clearance guidelines. That process can take months, even years – which would be infuriating for an impatient manager like Trump. His high-level appointees – such as his Secretary of State or Treasury – require confirmation from the U.S. Senate, a body which may not be disposed to do President Trump many favors.)

— Out-of-work financial execs still feeling bite of economic crisis – Gail MarksJarvis
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-searching-for-financial-jobs-0828-biz-20160825-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: About eight years after the financial crisis, the turmoil that began on Wall Street and then drifted into companies of all types has left the ranks of the unemployed and underemployed heavy with people who once enjoyed senior financial positions in a variety of industries. They face a sharply reduced market for the types of jobs they used to take for granted. Rosengard stated adamantly: “Banking is not a stable position.” Since the crash, she’s had well-paying short-term consulting positions and poor-paying temp work, but nothing like the security she used to have. Now, as she continues her search, “It’s like a twilight zone. You are either offered a position that has good pay, but a position way below your capabilities, or you are offered a top position with no pay.” Rosengard isn’t alone. She’s beginning to attend meetings of the Financial Executives Networking Group, or FENG, that are filled with people who’ve gone to premier MBA programs, guided companies through multimillion-dollar decisions, had titles like chief financial officer, treasurer and vice president of finance, and generally excelled at what they’ve done. At a recent downtown Chicago event in an Addison Group boardroom, Rosengard and 31 others exchanged job leads with one another and listened to a motivational speaker. “You aren’t getting recognized for your skills,” said the speaker, Conor Cunneen. “I know it’s a pain in the butt when you know you can do the job with your eyes closed, and they are going to give it to someone new at it, taking half the salary.” The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there has been almost no recovery in the number of financial positions in Illinois since the financial crisis set off thousands of layoffs. During summer 2006, as the economy seemed strong and few worried about jobs, financial positions peaked at 335,100 in Illinois. But by March 2011, only 283,000 remained, and by June this year the numbers had improved only slightly to 295,200. Nationally, many of the 718,000 financial jobs that disappeared have returned, but commercial banking is still short more than 58,000 jobs. Positions in leasing and rental equipment are down 93,200. “Whatever the government says, the recession continues,” said Matt Bud, national chairman of FENG, which holds sessions like the Chicago meetup in cities throughout the country. About 50,000 out-of-work or underemployed executives are members nationwide.)

http://qctimes.com/news/state-and-regional/illinois/clinton-invokes-father-s-memory-to-hit-trump-on-business/article_52853bbe-1908-5442-b7c4-1c7bdcfa854d.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hillary Clinton has landed on a very personal counterpunch to what she says is Donald Trump’s checkered business past: her dad. As the Democratic presidential nominee works to undercut Trump’s economic record and promote her plans for small businesses, she is invoking memories of her late father’s Chicago drapery business. Recalling Hugh Rodham hard at work making and printing curtains for hotels and office buildings, Clinton argues that he would have been “stiffed” in a deal with the celebrity businessman. “He expected to be paid when he showed up,” Clinton said recently during an event in Warren, Michigan. “He did the work. He paid for the supplies and the labor he often hired to help him on big jobs. I can’t imagine what would have happened to my father and his business if he had gotten a contract from Trump.” With fuzzy memories of her father, Clinton hopes to remind voters that despite her years in public life that have left her a multimillionaire, she comes from a middle-class background and understands the life of a small-business owner. She also wants to contrast her biography with that of Trump, who was raised by a successful real estate developer and has drawn criticism for his treatment of small businesses during his career. Trump has promoted his business record as a key qualification for the White House. But Trump casinos failed on several occasions. When the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey went bankrupt in the early 1990s, some contractors who worked on the property went under because Trump’s company didn’t pay what they were owed, according to interviews with The Associated Press. In a statement to the AP, Clinton said her father’s business gave her “a sense of responsibility,” adding that she was “living proof that a successful small business is at the core of the basic bargain in America, that if you work hard and do your part, you can make your own dreams and those of your children a reality.”)

https://chicagomaroon.com/2016/08/27/student-president-calls-free-speech-letter-messed-up/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Student Government President Eric Holmberg said in an interview that Dean John “Jay” Ellison’s letter condemning trigger warnings and intellectual safe spaces exploited a “false narrative” of coddled millennials for publicity. “It’s a messed up letter. I think the tone is condescending,” he told The Maroon. “The University is creating this threat of trigger warnings and safe spaces that really isn’t an active conversation on campus.”  Holmberg called the letter “hypocritical,” saying that the University hasn’t done its part to engage in challenging discourse with its students. He noted that activists have struggled to get administrators to attend their meetings. “Of anyone else on campus, the administration is far more fearful of challenge and discomfort than any student I know,” he said. “It’s ironic that during my time at the University of Chicago, administrators have continuously sought to create a comfortable space for themselves free of challenge by avoiding engagement with student leaders,” he said in a statement. “It’s a bit hypocritical, but I see why they’re doing it,” he said. “A couple of benefits: 1) Fundraising—I’m sure President Zimmer’s Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal yesterday was good for polarizing around this topic and making it seem like it’s a big issue on campus. 2) It creates this specter of trigger warnings and safe spaces based on false narratives of coddled millennials. That doesn’t really exist. There hasn’t been organized activism around trigger warnings on campus.”)

http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/roger-ailes-opposition-research-gabriel-sherman/2016/08/26/id/745425/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Two years before Gabriel Sherman published his book about Roger Ailes, the now-former Fox News CEO amassed a 400-page dossier on the New York magazine editor seeking to discredit him and his work, according to news reports. “We always wondered why Ailes was so obsessed and paranoid about Gabe’s book,” a former Fox News reporter told CNN’s Brian Stelter. Sherman’s work — “The Loudest Voice in the Room” — was first published in January 2014. When reminded of the lawsuit filed last month by former Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson alleging sexual harassment that ultimately led to Alies’ subsequent resignation, the ex-reporter then said, “maybe we know why.” Ailes, 76, has denied Carlson’s accusations. He remains a Fox consultant through 2018. According to Stelter, the document was a book-length memo dated Jan. 5, 2012. He likened it to “opposition research” against an adversary in a political campaign.)

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/careers/the-future-of-work/job-candidates-checking-references-on-their-potential-employers/article31580806/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The difference this Labour Day is that the hiring dynamics are changing. Employers find, increasingly, that top prospects are checking their references. “They are very, very sophisticated job seekers now,” said Laura Williams, founder and principal of Williams HR Law and Williams HR Consulting Inc. of Markham, Ont. “Social media platforms, LinkedIn included, create opportunities to identify past employees of an organization. The trend I am seeing is that when people become viable candidates, they will do a search, find someone who worked there and call,” Ms. Williams said in an interview. “As an employer, you are vulnerable to any candidate learning about the real deal by just contacting someone who was there before.” Research by the professional networking site LinkedIn has found that the majority of its members are receptive to an approach from other employers but are unlikely to job hop without knowing “what it’s really like” to work there, said Julie Dossett, a marketing and communications specialist with LinkedIn Canada, which has more than 12.5 million members. There’s still movement, of course. “We are entering an age where loyalty is decreasing. In fact, while more than half of the workforce (67 per cent) say they are satisfied with their jobs, nearly a quarter (23 per cent) still see themselves leaving by the end of the year,” LinkedIn reported in its 2016 talent trends survey. There tends to be a lot more give and take in the interview process, especially when employees have the option of staying in their current jobs. Candidates want to know why the position is open, what happened to the previous person in the role, and what they can expect in terms of career advancement if they join the company, Ms. Dossett said in an interview. They want “honest and up-front” specifics of responsibilities and workload, and will press recruiters to describe “a realistic day in the life of a person in that job, good and bad.”)

FORTUNE
— This Is How Much Americans Spend on Their Dogs – Michal Addady (DIERSEN: One reason why my wife and I have more money than many, if not most, if not virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes is that we have never owned a dog.  If we owned a dog, I would never be able to spend 10+ hours a day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)
http://fortune.com/2016/08/26/pet-industry/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you thought the love of your pet was priceless, the American Pet Products Association is here to prove you wrong. The APPA found that in 2016 U.S. pet owners are expected to spend $62.75 billion on their furry (or scaly) friends. That estimate is up about 4% from the $60.28 billion spent last year. In fact, total U.S. pet industry expenditures have gone up every single year that the association has collected this data, which it began doing in 1994. That first year, the industry was worth $17 billion. Of the $60.28 billion spent on pets in 2015, $23.05 billion was spent on food alone. Veterinary care was the next most expensive aspect of pet ownership, coming in at $15.42 billion. Supplies, like over the counter medicine, and services, including grooming and boarding, came out to $19.69 billion. Another $2.12 billion went toward “live animal purchases,” which generally means that an animal has been purchased as a pet, though a fraction are used as live feed. Excluding live animal purchases, each one of those categories is expected to grow this year. In the U.S. there are currently 312.1 million domesticated pets living in 129.8 million households. Cats and dogs are by far the most popular pets, with 75% of pet-owning households having at least one. However, cats and dogs are each outnumbered fish, which account for 105 million pets, more than a third of all the pets owned in the country. Cat and dog owners generally spend a good chunk of money on their pets each year. Tallying up veterinary care, food, treats, boarding, grooming, vitamins, and toys, it costs $1,641 per year to take care of a dog and $1,125 to take care of a cat.)

We Share Our Dogs’ Best and Worst Money Habits  (DIERSEN: One reason why my wife and I have more money than many, if not most, if not virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes is that we have never owned a dog. If we owned a dog, I would never be able to spend 10+ hours a day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)
http://time.com/money/4468821/money-national-dog-day-pets/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In honor of National Dog Day, we asked MONEY staffers to divulge just how much they spend on their pooches. While we know you can’t put a price on a pup’s unconditional love, the bills do add up. This year, U.S. pet owners are expected to spend $62.75 billion on dogs and other furry, scaly, and feathered friends—a figure that has steadily increased each year, according to the American Pet Products Association. Puppy chow eats up the largest chunk of that total, with Americans expected to spend $23 billion on pet food. Trips to the vet are also costly, too, running pet owners a total of $15.42 billion in 2016. The essential expenses are only part of the total cost; there’s also grooming, boarding, vitamins, and Fido’s toys and treats. In total, the APPA estimates that man will spend $1,641 each year to take care of his best friend. There certainly are ways that you can cut back on pet spending without depriving your furry family member. Here are the best—and worst—money habits of MONEY’s favorite dogs.)
