— Past and present candidates and elected officials who spoke at the Milton

14, 2019, at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream included Almiron, Corrigan,
Diersen, Eckhoff, Fitch, Grant, Heidorn, Holder, Ives, Kachiroubas, Keller,

Judge McCluskey announced his candidacy for the upcoming Judge George J.

HERALD NEWS
— OUTSTANDING: Bolingbrook board was blunt — no cannabis businesses in village
– ALEX ORTIZ https://www.theherald-news.com/2019/08/14/bolingbrook-board-was-blunt-no-cannabis-businesses-in-village/av0vrpj/ (FROM THE ARTICLE: The
village of Bolingbrook Board of Trustees voted Tuesday night to prohibit
cannabis business establishments within its boundaries. The trustees voted 5-1
in favor of the prohibition. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said he was in favor
of prohibiting cannabis businesses in the village and decried how the state
government passed the legislation to legalize it. “I philosophically have
a real problem with governments which have turned to drugs and gambling to
balance their budgets,” he said. “That’s what the state’s come
to.” The village’s ordinance cited the state’s Cannabis Regulation and Tax
Act, which allows municipalities to prohibit adult-use cannabis business
establishments. Ken Teppel, the village’s public safety director, spoke about
the Bolingbrook Police Department’s opposition to allowing cannabis businesses
in town. He also talked about the challenges posed to police departments in
other states that have already legalized recreational cannabis use, like
Colorado. For example, Teppel said cannabis businesses have been targets for
theft because they deal solely in cash to be in compliance with federal banking
laws. He added that, for police, it’s more difficult to investigate such crimes
without a paper trail. He also talked about other problems like black markets
developing around legal dispensaries, the high potency of the drug nowadays,
potential dangers with flammable materials used to grow the plant, and trying
to develop a test for impaired drivers who have used the drug. During public
comments, the opinions among the handful of residents who spoke were mixed. Trustee
Bob Jaskiewicz was the only “no” vote. He said it was a mistake to
not have a public hearing before holding a vote on the prohibition. “I
want us to consider other points as to why a dispensary would be a good
thing,” Jaskiewicz said. Claar told Jaskiewicz to take up the issue with
state legislators because, unlike other states, which held a referendum,
Illinois “chose to ignore the public” and didn’t ask voters. Claar
said lawmakers were already discussing a possible trailer bill to clarify and
fix issues with the initial law that passed. The mayor also made sure to
emphasize that the ordinance was only prohibiting commercial businesses selling
cannabis and not recreational use of the drug. Trustee Mary Alexander Basta
made the point that the ordinance could be revised in the future. Recreational
cannabis use and possession will be legal in Illinois starting Jan. 1, 2020.)

MTRCC’s 7:00 PM Wednesday August 14, 2019 meeting at the Holiday Inn in Carol
Stream, b) announce their candidacies, c) and seek the support of the eighteen
Republican Precinct Committeemen who represent Wheaton’s West District.
Those eighteen Precinct Committeemen are Joseph Caruso, Dave
Diersen, Thomas Elsner, Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John
Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski, Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor
McCarthy, Robert McNeily, Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark
Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.
Hopefully, MTRCC will gather relevant information about the
aforesaid seven candidates and provide that information to the aforesaid
eighteen Precinct Committeemen.
The goal of the candidate forum and providing information on the
candidates is to help the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen recommend to
Wheaton’s City Council the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the
Wheaton West District City Council vacancy.
Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders
routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s
August 14 meeting and a candidate forum if one is held: a) 6th Congressional
District candidates Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti; b) DuPage County
Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and Babette Holder; c) Wheaton’s mayor and City
Council members; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County
officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni,
Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen,
Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al
Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim
Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail
Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino,
and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard;
h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including
Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.
It will be extremely interesting to see which of the seven
candidates are endorsed by which of the aforesaid candidates, elected
officials, and party leaders, and especially which candidates Ives and
Sanguinetti might endorse because they have served on Wheaton’s City Council. –

Beyond the fried food on a stick and the iconic Butter Cow, another big
attraction at the Iowa State Fair is the unscientific straw poll open to all
attending the fair. In 2015, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump ran away with the
poll. Hillary Clinton won the Iowa caucus and Trump came in a very close second
behind Ted Cruz. Trump and Clinton eventually faced one another in the general
election. This week’s straw poll is a reminder that the 2020 campaign is much
further along than most people, and even many candidates, realize. The fact is
elections — and the nomination process — are won in June, July and August.

Biden and Sanders are fading, and the rest of the field is fried on a stick.)

re-election campaign at mansions in Southampton and Bridgehampton on Friday,
many of his East End supporters are eschewing the spotlight — especially after
last week’s calls for boycotts of billionaire Stephen Ross’ gyms because he
hosted the president. “We are all in the closet,” said a boutique owner in
Southampton who fears reprisals from his customers — most of them moneyed
Democrats — if he speaks openly about his allegiance to Trump. “It’s like you

2008 and 2012, most of the county voted for Barack Obama. Despite the recent

The feedback was voluminous and passionate. Thirty-eight people wrote to say we
should stop endorsing candidates in various city, county, state and federal
races and 35 said we should continue. A common theme in most of the responses
was an appreciation for our diligence in vetting the candidates through
questionnaires, background checks and interviews. They wanted the information
to help them decide on whom should get their vote. We agree the most important
part of what we do — and we do it better than most — is going in-depth with the
candidates on the issues. Getting specific answers to and solutions for some of
our most critical issues, like water quality and the environment, affordable
and attainable housing, the mental health and opioid crisis, how to improve
education and build new schools, mean the most to people. That same information
also was vital for us in endorsing candidates.)
