— OUTSTANDING: Rauner not a fan of legalizing marijuana – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-morning-spin-chicago-city-council-member-calls-colleague-chump-alderman-takes-it-back-20170323-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Responding to recently introduced legislation that would legalize marijuana in Illinois, Gov. Bruce Rauner had a less than enthusiastic response but said he’d be willing to study it. “I’m not a believer that legalizing more drugs will help our society so I’m not philosophically enthusiastic about it, but I’m also open to what actually works to make life better to people,” Rauner told the “Roe Conn Show” on WGN-AM 720 on Thursday. “I’m hearing some pretty bad stories. Now, I haven’t studied it. I think we should do a thoughtful analysis of what’s happening in these other states. I’m hearing a lot of trouble,” he said. “My friends in Colorado have told me some pretty terrible things about addiction problems and behavior problems, etc. over there in Denver.” To sum it up, Rauner said, “I just believe we’re conducting a massive human experiment as we legalize these drugs.”  One Democrat running for the right to take on Rauner next year endorsed the legislation. “Legalizing recreational marijuana is a social justice issue,” said Ald. Ameya Pawar in a statement. “It will reduce the amount we spend as a society arresting and jailing people for low-level nonviolent offenses, when our criminal justice system should be focused on reducing violence,” he said.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-trump-health-care-congress-immigration-krauthammer-perspec-0324-20170323-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The media. Trump is right. It is the opposition party. Indeed, furiously so, often indulging in appalling overkill. It’s sometimes embarrassing to read the front pages of the major newspapers, festooned as they are with anti-Trump editorializing masquerading as news. Nonetheless, if you take the view from 30,000 feet, better this than a press acquiescing on bended knee, where it spent most of the Obama years in a slavish Pravda-like thrall. Every democracy needs an opposition press. We damn well have one now. Taken together — and suspending judgment on which side is right on any particular issue — it is deeply encouraging that the sinews of institutional resistance to a potentially threatening executive remain quite resilient. James Madison’s genius was to understand that the best bulwark against tyranny was not virtue — virtue helps, but should never be relied upon — but ambition counteracting ambition, faction counteracting faction. You see it even in the confirmation process for Neil Gorsuch, Trump’s supremely qualified and measured Supreme Court nominee. He’s a slam dunk, yet some factions have scraped together a campaign to block him. Their ads are plaintive and pathetic. Yet I find them warmly reassuring. What a country — where even the vacuous have a voice. The anti-Trump opposition flatters itself as “the resistance.” As if this is Vichy France. It’s not. It’s 21st century America. And the good news is that the checks and balances are working just fine.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: This unfortunate outcome was not surprising to anyone who has watched seminaries throughout the country embrace and elevate radical “identity theology.” Identity politics have been dividing Americans for decades. Now identity theologies are splitting Christian denominations, colleges and seminaries in similar fashion. Entire theologies have developed from one’s self-orientation in an attempt to denounce patriarchy, sexism, racism and homophobia. Feminist theology and black-liberation theology produced womanist theology. SALON
— The Breitbart fear: Federal employees are scared they’ll be targeted by conservative media  Executive branch staffers right-wing hit jobs will cost them their careers – MATTHEW ROZSA
http://www.salon.com/2017/03/23/the-breitbart-fear-federal-employees-are-scared-theyll-be-targeted-by-conservative-media/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump has already left the State Department in chaos with his massive layoffs and marginalization of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Now it appears that, because of Trump’s past habit of getting his information from right-wing news outlets, many government staffers across the executive branch are afraid that conservative media hit pieces against them will cost them their careers. The belief that executive branch staffers are insufficiently loyal to Trump and are secretly working to promote the policies of President Barack Obama has inspired a wave of attack articles from right-wing sites like Breitbart and the Conservative Review, according to Politico. Breitbart has even published a list of so-called “Obama loyalist bureaucrats” that it urged Trump to “either fire immediately or remove from their current positions.” Breitbart’s former CEO, Steve Bannon, is currently Trump’s chief strategist.)

ROCK RIVER TIMES
— Differences apparent in pot legalization debate – Greg Bishop  (DIERSEN: Which individuals, organizations, companies, and governments in Illinois are leading the opposition against SB 316 and HB 2353?  Please ask them to phone me at 630-653-0462.  I am considering asking the DuPage County Board to pass a resolution ASAP against the legalization of marijuana for recreational use similar to the Milton Township Republican Central Committee’s 2009 resolution against video gambling.  For a sample of such a resolution, SEE:
http://archive.azcentral.com/ic/pdf/resolution-opposing-legalization-marijuana.pdf  I would ask all of the Republicans who represent all or part of DuPage County to endorse the resolution including U.S. Representatives Hultgren and Roskam; Governor Rauner; Lt. Governor Sanguinetti; Illinois Senators Connelly, Nybo, Oberweis, and Radogno; Illinois Representatives Bellock, Breen, Durkin, Fortner, Ives, Olsen, Wehrli, and Winger; DuPage County officials Anderson, Berlin, Bucholz, Cantore, Cronin, Curran, DiCianni, Eckhoff, Elliott, Fichtner, Grant, Grasso, Grogan, Healy, Henry, Hinds, Jorgensen, Kachiroubas, Khouri, Krajewski, Larsen, Murphy, Noonan, Puchalski, Redick, Ruscitti, Tornatore, Whelan, Wiley, Zaruba, and Zay; Milton Township officials Falbo, Heidorn, Hinkle, Keller, LeVan, Molitor, Muehlfelt, and Nathwani; and all the MTRCC members.)
http://rockrivertimes.com/2017/03/23/differences-apparent-in-pot-legalization-debate/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Anita Bedell, executive director of Illinois Church Action on Alcohol & Addiction Problems, said, “Just because something brings in revenue doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. They’re not considering the harm, they’re not considering costs.” Proponents also say it will spur on jobs. “So has gambling, so has other things …,” Bedell said. “There’s always going to be money in some things, but this is not a good way to have money for Illinois, and it would just cause more harm and cause more damage.” . . . Illinois Family Institute’s David Smith opposes legalization and said there would still be a black market. “The guy on the street that’s selling the pot doesn’t have to have the brick and mortar and the overhead and the employees and the insurance, and the workman’s comp,” Smith said. Smith also dismissed proponents who say illegal marijuana is a criminal justice issue because, he said, there are a very small number of inmates in the system for drug possession only. The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police said they oppose the bill because of the traffic safety concerns.) . . . Rauner’s office said Thursday the governor is currently reviewing the legalization measure.)

http://www.wsiltv.com/story/34974887/illinois-lawmakers-consider-ending-marijuana-prohibition
(FROM THE ARTICLE:  Illinois lawmakers are considering a plan to regulate and tax legal marijuana use for adults. Legislation introduced in the House and Senate Wednesday would allow adults 21 and older to purchase marijuana legally from a business licensed by the state. The Senate bill, SB 316, is sponsored by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Heather Steans (D-Chicago), while the House version, HB 2353, was presented by Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago). “Marijuana prohibition is a quagmire that creates far more problems than it prevents,” Cassidy said. “Several states have adopted sensible alternatives to prohibition, and it is time for Illinois to develop its own exit strategy.” Each bill would make it legal to possess, grow, and purchase limited amounts of marijuana. The state would license and regulate businesses to cultivate, process, test, and sell marijuana to adults, and it would create and enforce strict health and safety regulations, such as testing and labeling requirements and restrictions on marketing. “Right now, all the money being spent on marijuana is going into the pockets of criminals and cartels,” Steans said. “In a regulated system, the money would go into the cash registers of licensed, taxpaying businesses. It would generate hundreds of millions of dollars per year in new revenue for our state.”  The bills propose taxing marijuana at a rate of $50 per ounce at the wholesale level, and retail sales would be subject to the state’s standard 6.25% sales tax. Based on current usage rates and the market price of marijuana being sold for adults’ use in Colorado, the Marijuana Policy Project estimates regulated marijuana sales could generate between $349 million and $699 million per year in new revenue for Illinois.)

Valencia’s office insists applicants’ information will be secure and those who apply will be properly vetted, though Valencia has offered no specifics on how the city will achieve those goals or when the program will launch. CATHOLIC CITIZENS OF ILLINOIS
— ‘Ending White Privilege Starts With Ending Jewish Privilege’ fliers hung at U. Illinois-Chicago – REBECCA DOWNS (DIERSEN: Government is nasty.  Politics is nasty. Democrats are nasty. I should write a book about my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government who focused on turning my many Jewish superiors and Jewish supervisors against me. They stressed that I was 100% German national origin and that I had been baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran.  In my defense, I stressed that all my ancestors had immigrated to northeast Illinois during the 1840s and 1850s, that my grandfather on my father’s side fought the Germans in WWI, that my uncles on my mother’s side fought the Germans in WWII, and that my father would have fought the Germans in WWII if he had not been 4-F.)
https://catholiccitizens.org/news/70421/ending-white-privilege-starts-ending-jewish-privilege-fliers-hung-u-illinois-chicago/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Fliers recently hung at the University of Illinois at Chicago declare “Ending White Privilege Starts With Ending Jewish Privilege.”  The fliers use Pew Research Center data in an attempt to validate the statement, including that while Jews make up 2 percent of the population in the United States that “44% of these Jewish Americans are in the top 1%.” “Is the 1% straight, white men? Or is the 1% Jewish?” the flier questions. The university acted swiftly, issuing a statement March 15, the same day the fliers were found on campus. “Such actions do not reflect the values we hold as a community. Acts that invoke hatred or violence toward members of our community will not be tolerated on our campus,” campus officials said. “We strongly encourage all members of our university to exercise their right to free speech in a manner that recognizes these principles and avoids prejudice or stereotypes,” they added. Despite the campuswide statement, more anti-Semitic fliers were found posted on campus over the weekend. One discussed “Jewish privilege” with regard to “the special privilege when it comes to top universities.” Another linked the de-hiring of Professor Steven Salaita with then-Chancellor Phyllis Wise’s meeting with “a wealthy Jewish Donor in Chicago.” A third criticized jail time for those who deny the Holocaust. Still another flier equated Auschwitz with Gaza, claiming the “largest Concentration Camp in the world today is owned and operated by Zionists.” While the fliers did not identify the student or organization responsible, they did include various hashtags: #BlackLivesMatter, #WeAreAllMuslims, #WhitePrivilege and #StandwithPalestine. Student Eva Zeltser, who posted images of the fliers on Facebook, said her “heart is broken.” “While I try to abstain from writing personal narratives on Facebook, enough is enough,” she stated. “If you are against hate crimes against one group, you should be against these acts of violence for ALL groups. Found all over the UIC campus. Things like these posters are actively posted to catalyze anti-Semitism and increase hate toward Jews.” The incident at the University of Illinois at Chicago comes as a strong uptick in anti-Semitic incidents on campuses nationwide has been observed. UIC Levine Hillel Center’s Executive Director Rabbi Seth Winberg condemned the posters in an email to The College Fix, noting they have caused anger and sadness. The center asked the university to “conduct a full investigation and to address the campus culture that would allow such hateful targeting of Jews.” “We will not let these hateful flyers deter us from our work to build a vibrant community at UIC,” Winberg added.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— ‘Media Attention’ and IRS Abuse  A simple rule fix could end partisan targeting tomorrow. – JOHN J. VECCHIONE  (DIERSEN: Were it not Henry Hyde’s intervention, IRS would never have approved Adversity.Net’s 501(c)(3) application. SEE:
http://www.adversity.net/)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/media-attention-and-irs-abuse-1490137171
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of Americans for their political views may have ended with the Obama administration—or even with its exposure in 2013. But it could easily recur. Even now, an internal IRS rule singles out applicants for nonprofit status who might be tied to anything newsworthy. The genesis of the targeting scandal was Section 7.29.3 of the Internal Revenue Manual. As noted in a report my organization is issuing Wednesday, this manual dictates how IRS employees handle everything from customer service to criminal investigations. This particular section tells them to flag for further review any application for tax-exempt status that might “attract media or Congressional attention.” That’s a broad, vague and subjective command that career IRS employees are nevertheless required to follow. Emails between IRS personnel make clear that low-level employees were guided by this rule throughout the targeting scandal. They repeatedly cited “media attention” on the Tea Party as the reason to single out and delay applications from conservative groups. This rule means that IRS enforcement reflects the ideological biases of the media. Aside from a small number of groups related to the Occupy Wall Street movement and the defunct advocacy group Acorn, libertarian and free-market groups were almost exclusively targeted. These provisions of the IRS manual have nothing to do with the merits of a nonprofit application and everything to do with keeping the agency from looking bad. It is inappropriate for a group’s tax-exempt status to be deep-sixed because of negative publicity. In the targeting scandal, this approach allowed partisan concerns to overtake the application process, resulting in the unfair treatment of political viewpoints at odds with the Obama administration. Equal justice under the law demands that the IRS abandon the “newsworthy” criterion. To date, however, the agency has promised only to stop making lists of targeted groups “until further notice.” Even if the halt were permanent, it wouldn’t be enough. IRS officials are still required to follow the manual and pull high-profile applications for enhanced scrutiny. The IRS can change its employee manual today. No new law is required. The simplest explanation for why the agency has not done so lies in the nature of bureaucracies—they refuse to relinquish power even after demonstrated abuse. The procedure for newsworthy applicants provides a convenient cover to shield improper partisan decision-making.)

Democrats are moral relativists who believe that their end justifies their means.  Democrats are disciples of Saul Alinsky.  In 1997, my Democrat GAO superiors used the following facts to justify their forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” when I was 49 years old: a) what my wife and I had saved for our retirement, b) my wife’s salary, c) we had no debts, d) our good health, e) we owned 915 Cove Court in Wheaton, f) we had no dependents, g) we owned a 1997 Chevy Cavalier, 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX, 1990 Ford Thunderbird LX, 1972 Chevy Corvette, 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, and 1962 Chevy Impala SS, and h) we could “afford” to suffer a $72,135/year loss of income in today’s dollars ($122,991 salary minus $50,856 pension).)

https://www.wsj.com/articles/as-skills-shift-for-high-paying-jobs-women-see-advantages-1490101201
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Men are losing ground in the labor market, and it’s not just the ones without college degrees. Even those with higher education are seeing their chances of holding a good job drop relative to women, according to new research. Three economists found that the high-paying occupations of the past few decades—from doctors to software engineers to financial advisers—require increasing levels of interpersonal skills such as collaboration, empathy and managing others. “That’s been favoring women in high-paying jobs,” said one of the study’s authors Henry Siu, a professor at the University of British Columbia. Women’s advancement in those jobs accelerated from 1980 to 2000. The trend slowed from 2000 to 2014, but even during that period, college-educated women saw their job prospects essentially hold steady while male peers’ prospects declined, according to Mr. Siu and his co-authors, Guido Cortes at the University of Manchester in England and Nir Jaimovich at the University of Southern California. The economists have been presenting their working paper, “The End of Men and Rise of Women in the High-Skilled Labor Market,” at economics conferences in recent months. Men are still better-represented in so-called good jobs, which the authors define as paying in the top 25% of all occupations or requiring mostly cognitive skills like problem-solving and analysis. But their chances of being in such jobs have fallen over time while women’s chances are rising. In 1980, 66.2% of male college graduates worked in cognitive jobs; by 2000, that proportion had fallen to 63.3%, according to U.S. census data reviewed by the economists. Meanwhile, 58.8% of college-educated women held such roles in 2000, up from 54.2% in 1980. By 2014, 61.4% of college-educated men were in those good jobs, compared with 57.8% for their female counterparts.)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— Entitlements: The Most Dangerous Addiction – DENNIS PRAGER
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/445940/entitlements-american-addiction
(FROM THE ARTICLE: All addictions – whether drug, alcohol, gambling, sexual, or cigarettes – are very hard to escape. There is one addiction, however, that might be more difficult than any other to escape – in part because it is not even regarded as an addiction. It is Entitlements Addiction, an addiction to getting something for nothing. One indication as to the power of Entitlements Addiction is that, while great numbers of people have voluntarily given up – almost always at great pain – drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc., few give up an addiction to entitlements. For the majority of able-bodied people who get cash payments, food stamps, subsidized housing, free or subsidized health insurance, and other welfare benefits, the thought of giving up any one of those and beginning to pay for them with their own earned money is as hard as giving up alcohol is to an alcoholic. Politicians know this, which is why it is close to impossible to ever reduce entitlements. And, of course, the Left knows this, which is why the Left almost always wins any debate over entitlements. Every American who is the beneficiary of an entitlement backs entitlements, and many who are not beneficiaries of entitlements would like to be. This, aside from ideology, is why the Left constantly seeks to increase entitlements: The more people receive government benefits, the more people vote left.)

— The Democrats’ immigration problem – Henry Olsen  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps viciously demonize, viciously denigrate, and viciously condemn Trump supporters as being haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things, and especially Trump supporters who are Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-democrats-immigration-trump-muslim-ban-20170320-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If Democrats want to win again, they must do one of two things: Attract back the Obama-Trump voter or win over the Romney-non-Trump voter. Their protestations against border security and the travel ban are not likely to do either. Surveys show that Obama-Trump blue-collar voters like Trump’s anti-immigration stance. These voters are likely to have felt competition from immigrants legal and illegal, and they want that competition to stop. Even though many of these voters agree with Democrats on traditional economic issues like taxes and entitlement spending, their primary concern now is to protect their livelihoods and standard of living by reducing competition from foreigners living at home and abroad. . .Democrats are either unwilling to see the truth or unable to acknowledge it: They cannot win back the presidency without attracting people who disagree with some of their views. Doing that does not mean singing the same old songs louder and more clearly.)

Since 1997, when I was 49 years old, when my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer,” I have had to cut back $72,135 in spending each year in today’s dollars. I have $72,135 less to spend each year because my GS-13 Step 10 GAO salary was $122,991 in today’s dollars and my Civil Service Retirement System pension is only $50,856 or $72,135 less or 59% less.)

http://dna.ancestry.com, my ancestry is 33% Europe West, 28% Scandinavia, 24% Great Britain, 11% Ireland, 2% Europe East, 1% Finland/Northwest Russia, and 1% Italy/Greece.)
http://barbwire.com/2017/03/18/the-price-of-privilege/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A proposal has been making its way through the social justice sewer system to have white people pay a 5% privilege tax. That would be a lot cheaper than the current wealth redistribution built into the tax system. In 2004, black people made up 12% of the population and 20% of those who didn’t file taxes at all. It was estimated that 50.7% of African American households, 52% of Hispanic households and 37% of white households paid no income taxes. The numbers would likely have only gotten worse after the recession, which destroyed large numbers of African-American jobs, and the Obama years, which traded social welfare for economic progress. An otherwise equal tax system with a 5% white privilege tax would be an enormous improvement. How do you calculate the income losses for a white student shut out of college by affirmative action or a white business owner’s income losses due to preferential business programs aimed at minorities? The white student would happily pay that 5% to be allowed to go to college instead of being told that more diverse students with worse grades will cut ahead of him in line because they are “disadvantaged”. It would be easier for the white business owner to calculate in a fixed privilege tax for an otherwise competitive market than the intangible forms of diversity discrimination that rig the game. A 5% white privilege tax would be far too honest. The real tax is hidden and much higher. But the white privilege tax does raise all sorts of fascinating questions. How do you calculate it? It can’t be by appearing or identifying as a minority. Such an unfair performative system would allow Rachel Dolezal, aka Nkechi Diallo, to escape paying her white privilege tax after unfairly exploiting her white privilege to head the NAACP. If white people can just braid their hair in dreadlocks and spend a week in a tanning salon before renaming themselves Mkesi Daluboo or Willami Clintonoo, what good is a white privilege tax? The only fair way to do it is with a DNA test.)

PATRIOT POST
— Turkey Threatens European Invasion? – Nate Jackson  (DIERSEN: Mexico has been invading America for many decades. Anti-Americans support that.)
https://patriotpost.us/posts/48070
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s no secret — at least to those informed by anything other than Leftmedia propaganda — that jihadis infiltrate the ranks of “refugees” in order to carry out terrorist attacks. Even Barack Obama’s State Department quietly acknowledged that fact. While American judges bemoan Donald Trump’s travel ban because it “targets Muslims,” some Muslims certainly don’t have any trouble making it all about religion. As Gary Bauer notes, “A diplomatic spat erupted recently when Turkey wanted to send diplomats to the Netherlands to campaign among the Turkish residents there for an upcoming constitutional referendum in Turkey. Dutch officials refused to allow the visit, which coincided with their own hotly contested election, and the Turkish government erupted in rage.” “Shame on the EU,” Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan thundered. “Down with your European principles, values and justice.” He wasn’t done, claiming, “They started a clash between the cross and the crescent. There is no other explanation.” Worse, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu threatened, “Soon wars of religion … will start in Europe.” This might happen because, he added, “We could open the way for 15,000 refugees … each month and blow [Europe’s] mind.” Now, a brief history lesson. Less than 100 years after Mohammad’s death, Muslims were invading Europe — first Spain and then France before Frankish King Charles Martel defeated them at the Battle of Tours in 732. Hundreds of years of subsequent Muslim aggression led to the Crusades. So no, Dutch politicians did not “start a clash between the cross and the crescent.” Muslims did that 1,400 years ago and they’ve never stopped. The battle just looks different now, and the “army” is a horde of “refugees.” Did we mention that Turkey is a member of NATO and ostensibly and ally of Western Europe?)

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/mar/20/cinco-de-mayo-canceled-mexicans-fear-trump-deporta/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Cinco de Mayo celebration called El Carnaval de Puebla, held each year in Philadelphia, has just been suddenly canceled — and in short order, it’s due to President Donald Trump. Why? The normal and usual Mexican holiday participants are worried they might get deported. This is a good thing. For years, under Barack Obama, the law-abiding of the nation have watched with a wintry mix of outrage and disbelief as the nation’s illegals stood at podiums — public podiums, immigration officials be hanged — to shed tears for their entitlement rights, and demand the mean ol’ Republicans who want to deport them get in the amnesty line. Jose Antonio Vargas was probably the worse-case scenario of a face-slapping to America’s border control laws. Remember Vargas? He was the guy who penned a long-winded heart-puller in New York Times Magazine entitled, “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant.” Was he arrested? No. Shortly after writing another piece about the plight of the illegals — to include his personal struggles in a country like America with borders — Team Obama announced the halting of deportation of those age 30 and under who met certain DREAM Act circumstances. Vargas was also the guy who called his illegal self an American — that he just didn’t “have the right papers.” Right. But he was hardly the only illegal in America, under the Obama administration, to boldly go forth as an illegal — to demand equal rights to citizens. Thousands of others took part in public events, outright outing their illegal statuses, outright casting deportation concerns to the wind. And why wouldn’t they? Obama had an open door policy at the border — an open door policy that led him, in the days before the last presidential election, to pretty much encourage those without voting rights to, well, get to the ballot boxes and vote, anyway. His message: Because who’s going to deport them?  When asked in late 2016 by a member of the media if undocumented citizens, dreamers — “I call them citizens” — got in the election game and voted, would immigration officials then know their location and deport them, Obama’s response: “Not true. And the reason is first of all when you vote you are a citizen yourself. And there is not a situation where the voting rolls somehow are transferred over and people start investigating.” Go on, Obama egged. Vote. Nobody’s checking — not in my administration, anyway. Well, new administration. And now illegals across the nation seem to be getting the message that the new sheriff in the White House isn’t so blind to the borders. Typically, up to 15,000 gather in South Philadelphia each year for the Cinco de Mayo celebration. But this year? Different story, it seems. In recent times, Trump’s border control officials have arrested or detained hundreds of illegals. Why just within the last few days, 248 were detained in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia during a mass federal raid that lasted about two weeks. As such, illegals everywhere are starting to think: Hey, maybe we ought not strut about as if we’re citizens any longer. Good idea. “The group of six organizers decided to cancel unanimously,” said Edgar Ramirez, one of the Cinco de Mayo organizers, to a local NBC affiliate about the fate of the event. “Everyone is offended by the actions of ICE. They did not feel comfortable holding the event.” Ramirez’s comments were meant to be critical — were meant to demonstrate just how Trump’s crackdowns were causing undue chaos in the illegal community. But sorry, no sympathy here. For the law-abiding in America, Ramirez’s announcement is just yet another feel-good moment for the election of Trump — another chance to breathe a collective sigh of relief that the adults are back in charge and order, justice and law once again count.)

THE HILL
– DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps say “immigrants commit less crime than US-born citizens.”  To be in America illegally is to commit a crime.  Most illegals are in sanctuary cities and in welcoming cities where police are forced to give them preference, that is, to not arrest them when they commit crimes.

NEW YORK TIMES
— No Crackdown on Illegal Employers – Editorial (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, Trump should immediately require all employers in America to use E-Verify a) before hiring any new employees and b) to verify that all their current employees are legal.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/20/opinion/no-crackdown-on-illegal-employers.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Trump began his campaign assailing immigrants as ruthless lawbreakers who steal American jobs with impunity. To halt them, he has vowed to build a wall along the border with Mexico, hire thousands of new immigration agents, ramp up immigrant detention and subject visa applicants to even more rigorous vetting. His administration has been largely silent, however, about the strongest magnet that has drawn millions of immigrants, legal and not, to the United States for generations: jobs. American employers continue to assume relatively little risk by hiring undocumented immigrants to perform menial, backbreaking work, often for little pay. Meanwhile, as Mr. Trump’s deportation crackdown accelerates, families are being ripped apart, and communities of hard-working immigrants with deep roots in this country are gripped by fear and uncertainty. As long as employers remain off the hook, a border wall and an expanded dragnet can only make temporary dents in the flows of undocumented immigrants.)
