http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/mark-levin-sean-hannity-should-consider-suing-media-matters/article/2624210
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Conservative radio host Mark Levin proposed Fox News’ Sean Hannity should look into suing Media Matters for how the progressive organization has gone after his show and audience. “If I were Sean Hannity … I would give very serious consideration to suing Media Matters, its board, and its officers, as well as any other entity involved in the organized effort to boycott his TV show, including media outlets contacting his advertisers in a thinly veiled boycott tactic, for the purposeful tortious interference with his employment contract with Fox News and his business relationships with his various advertisers,” Levin wrote in a Facebook post Thursday. On Tuesday, Hannity told viewers that there is an effort to “silence” him from making certain comments on air. “As for my job here at the Fox News Channel — there is an effort now abound to silence me,” Hannity said. “That is what we have called on this program as liberal fascism. (FROM THE ARTICLE: When Michael Savini came to Wall Street in 2006, banks and brokers had stocked their annual recruiting classes with a preponderance of new hires who shared at least one thing in common: They’d played college sports. In New York and Chicago, trading floors teemed with former football and lacrosse stars, as well as veterans of college hockey, wrestling, tennis and crew teams. Some ex-athletes, including former investment bank CEOs John Mack, Henry Paulson and Alan Schwartz, made it to the executive suite. Many others looked favorably on younger versions of themselves, building networks that drew athletes, typically male, from their alma maters. Ex-jocks had the right stomach for risk-taking, the theory went, and the ideal temperament to win clients’ trust and business. “You saw a lot of big guys” in Chicago’s trading pits, said Bernard McSherry, dean of the New Jersey City University’s business school, who spent many years on the floor of the NYSE. “Those were physical jobs. And in an open-outcry market, you could bully your way into a trade.”)

— Illinois’ middle class shrank over the last 40 years. Here’s why. – Alexia Elejalde-Ruiz
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-illinois-middle-class-0523-biz-20170522-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Meantime, Illinois’ median household income among the middle class has grown very modestly over that period, to $80,800 in 2015 from $79,300 in 1980, adjusting for inflation. But high-income households have seen their median income jump 14.5 percent, to $192,900 from $168,500. The median pay for low-income households has barely budged, to $26,100 from $25,800. . . Measuring the middle class is challenging, the report said, in part because it isn’t clear how to define it given associations with education and occupation type. The report’s analysis measured middle class by income level, adjusted for household size. So households earning more than two-thirds of the state’s median income and less than double the state’s median income — between $43,000 and $130,000 — are considered middle class.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The FBI is looking to get more diversity in its ranks, acknowledging “the diversity numbers are not where we want them to be.” As a result, the bureau is launching a “Diversity Agent Recruitment Program,” to recruit more minorities and women “to better represent the diverse make-up of our communities overall.” In Chicago, the FBI is holding a recruitment event July 12. While a spokesman didn’t reveal exactly how many positions are being sought, he said Chicago is hoping to get hundreds of applicants. The bureau didn’t provide a breakdown of agents by race or gender, but acknowledged: “The diversity numbers of the FBI are not where we want them to be, unfortunately, but we have made it our highest priority to change that over the next few years.” Chicago agents start at around $71,000, with salaries rising to $110,000 over five years, a spokesman said.)

ILLINOIS HOMEPAGE
— GOP seeks recruits to oppose Mendoza, Madigan  GOP searching for ‘electable’ candidates – Mark Maxwell (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. According to my critics/opponents, a) the Republican Party platform is the problem, b) the more planks in that platform that a candidate supports, the less likely that they will win, and c) to win, candidates should stress those planks that they reject.  My critics especially want candidates who reject the immigration, traditional family, right to life, illegal drugs, gambling, and Second Amendment planks.  They especially want candidates who hate Trump.  They especially want candidates who are minority, female, and/or younger.)
http://www.illinoishomepage.net/news/local-news/gop-seeks-recruits-to-oppose-mendoza-madigan/719204123
(FROM THE ARTICLE:  Governor Bruce Rauner and his inner circle of political advisors are holding private meetings to vet candidates they hope could unseat Comptroller Susana Mendoza and Attorney General Lisa Madigan in the 2018 election. Democrats running to unseat Rauner have garnered most of the public attention to date, but behind closed doors, Republicans are already forming a deep roster and consulting with top party donors before making any public commitments to back candidates. The secretive casting calls are starting to creating tension within the party as leaders mull over their next move. According to sources with knowledge of these discussions, Rauner’s chief political strategist Mike Zolnierowicz is actively recruiting and meeting with candidates who may show potential to upstage some of the governor’s political rivals in a statewide election. By all accounts, these conversations remain in the very early stages, and several of the candidates themselves remain uncertain about their own standing with the party leadership. Former Comptroller Leslie Munger is rumored to be angling for a chance to regain her seat in 2018, but party leaders have privately expressed concerns about her electability after losing a rough election last fall. Although he did not respond to requests for comment, Zolnierowicz continues to explore other options for the high stakes Comptroller race. After losing to Mendoza last November, Munger was awarded a pay raise to a salary of $138,000 as one of two deputy governors in the Rauner administration. When asked about her plans to run for reelection, she replied, “No comment.” Republicans openly admit they are gearing up for a broader campaign to overtake a majority in the House, which would effectively demote reigning Speaker Michael Madigan. The party would need to pick up 9 seats to unseat Madigan. It only managed to gain 4 seats during the 2016 election, narrowly escaping the Democratic supermajority. Representative Tim Butler (R-Springfield) acknowledges unseating Madigan is a long shot, but he contends Democrats have several vulnerable candidates in districts where he believes the GOP can compete. Defeating Madigan’s daughter may prove to be the tougher task. Zolnierowicz, who left his post as Rauner’s chief of staff to become the party’s top strategist last summer, is said to have come down to a short list of candidates to oppose Madigan, yet concerns about name recognition and credentials prolong the decision. Rauner’s campaign communications director Kirsten Kukowski and Illinois GOP spokesmen Steven Yaffe and Aaron DeGroot declined to comment for this article.)

(FROM THE POSTING: Student loan debt is now a $1.3-trillion problem burdening 44 million borrowers. Experts are talking about the effects of student debt on the economy, but they aren’t talking about its disproportionate effects on women. AAUW takes a close look at that oversight in the new research report Deeper in Debt: Women and Student Loans. Women’s success in postsecondary education is shrinking the gender pay gap and opening up opportunities, but at what price? Women not only take on more student debt than men do, but women also pay back their loans more slowly because of the gender pay gap. While higher education is seen as a path to financial stability, taking on student debt is a gamble, and it’s a bigger risk for some women: Low-income students, students with dependent children, and students who drop out of college are all at higher risk of defaulting on student loans. AAUW advocates for grants, programs, and resources that can keep college accessible for those who have the most to gain.)

May 21 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— In 2018, which Republican candidates are going to run for federal, state, and county offices in DuPage County?  Who does Rauner want to run for Attorney General, Comptroller, Secretary of State, and Treasurer?  I urge all of them to have an entry in Wheaton’s 2017 Independence Day Parade. SEE:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-independence-day-celebration-parade-entry-tickets-31882733113  So far, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee and James Mendrick for DuPage County Sheriff have entries.  Since I moved to Wheaton in 1978, I have encouraged Republican candidates and elected officials to have entries in Wheaton’s Independence Day Parades.  This year, for the 12th year in a row, I will be seeking donations from Republicans so that “DuPage Republicans” can again be one of the two $2,500 “Star” sponsors and again sponsor the Wheaton high school bands and the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums parade entries.  According to the Wheaton Park District which organizes the July 3 fireworks and July 4 parade, being a $2,500 “Star” sponsor includes: “Media Print Advertisements, Social Media Promotion, Website Preference, Email Blasts, Event Posters/Flyers, Press Release, 10×10 Booth on July 3, Inclusion in Announcements on July 3, Premium Seating at Graf Park for July 3 Fireworks, Event Sponsor Banners,” and more.  Outstandingly, again this year Tim Whelan will coordinate Republican use of the 10×10 booth at the fireworks.  This year again, I will hand deliver flyers to the residences and businesses on the parade route that will list the Republican entries in the parade and the Republicans who helped sponsor entries. So far, outstandingly, Roger Claar has contributed $500, Chris Nybo has pledged $250, and Peter Breen, Grant Eckhoff, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Tim Whelan, and others have pledged $100.  Last year, outstandingly, Chris Nybo contributed $250; Liam Brennan, Dave Diersen, and Phil Suess contributed $150; and Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Fred Bucholz, Mike Connelly, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Rich Jorgensen, Chris Kachiroubas, Mark Kirk, Brian Krajewski, Robert Lyon, James Mendrick, Deanne Mazzochi, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Tim Whelan, and Jim Zay contributed $100. – Dave Diersen

http://herald-review.com/lifestyles/family/traditional-milestones-are-no-longer/article_ec26b99f-2e68-58ee-86e1-cd0b66b46b7a.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: This postponement of the age of marriage by young people compared to prior decades — partly spurred by improved educational and economic status in their 20s for women such as Jeffery — is just one of many long-term trends highlighted by national statistics in a recent U.S. Census Bureau report. The April report, “The Changing Economics and Demographics of Young Adulthood: 1975-2016,” puts numbers to some often-discussed aspects of today’s millennial generation — ones that may inspire either frustration, sympathy or nodding approval from their baby boomer parents, who themselves often broke with their parents’ traditions. Examining census and other survey data about the 18-to-34 age group, the report notes: — The percentage of women ages 20-24 who are married fell from 57 percent in 1976 to 17 percent in 2014, while those with a child fell from 31 percent to 25 percent. It is thus more common for a 25-year-old woman to be a mother than a wife. — About one of three 18-to-34-year-olds relies on parents’ financial help, and a similar proportion live in their parents’ homes. The percentage living independently fell from 51 percent in 2005 to 41 percent in 2015. — The economic situation of young men has plummeted, with 41 percent of those ages 25-34 earning less than $30,000 annually, compared to just 25 percent who were below that inflation-adjusted threshold in 1975. The status of women has spiked, meanwhile, as only 14 percent in that age group are homemakers now compared to 43 percent in 1975. Despite economic gains compared to young men, however, their earnings still trail those of males. — Sharing a home with an unmarried partner has been the fastest-growing living arrangement over the past four decades, used by 12 percent of 18-to-34-year-olds in 2016 compared to less than 1 percent in 1975. The age group’s most common living arrangement, however, is living with parents, which has overtaken living with a spouse. The report pointed out how today’s millennials generally fail to reach benchmarks of adult independence by an age that most of society considers ideal. A 2012 survey of the U.S. population, for instance, found 21 was deemed the ideal age of financial independence from parents, but only 29 percent of 21-year-olds currently achieve that. And 22 was the consensus as the ideal age of obtaining full-time employment, but only 37 percent have such jobs by that age. Similarly, wide gaps show up for getting married and becoming a parent. Putting together four yardsticks by which someone might fully embrace adulthood — a job, marriage, parenthood and living apart from parents — nearly half of 25-to-34-year-olds could claim all of those in 1975, but fewer than one-fourth could in 2016, according to the report.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/evanston/news/ct-evr-evanston-racial-discrimination-lawsuit-tl-0504-20170519-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A former Evanston public works director Suzette Robinson is suing the city and several city officials for what the lawsuit alleges was “discrimination on the basis of race, harassment and [a] racially hostile work environment, and for retaliation.” However, Evanston’s city manager, who was named as one of the defendants in the suit, said Suzette Robinson’s race played no part in the decision to eliminate her job. “I deny Ms. Robinson’s claims in this lawsuit that race or retaliation had any role in my decision-making,” said Evanston City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz. In the complaint, filed May 27, 2016, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Robinson asks for $75,000 in compensation, plus attorney’s fees and punitive damages. She names Bobkiewicz, the City of Evanston, city attorney W. Grant Farrar and human resources manager Jennifer Lin as defendants. According to the lawsuit, Robinson was public works director for Evanston from March 2010 until August 2015. The suit said that she was one of “three African-American employees at the department director level reporting directly to Bobkiewicz.” The complaint reads that Robinson’s position was eliminated, “effective immediately,” in August 2015 after Bobkiewicz stated “that the city planned to combine public works and utilities into one department named the public works agency.” But the lawsuit says the City Council did not approve the “proposed reorganization” until September 2015. Robinson alleges that Bobkiewicz “discriminated against her on the basis of race” and “retaliated against her” “for filing complaints about racial discrimination,” according to court documents.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— The Conservative Force Behind Speeches Roiling College Campuses – STEPHANIE SAUL  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, schools crank out hate-filled “good little Democrats” who are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/20/us/college-conservative-speeches.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE:  “Let’s give it up for the racists that are hosting this event!” someone yelled, and the crowd roared, foot-stomping in unison, then breaking into song: Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.” One member of the audience held up a sign, “Queers Against Islamaphobia.” Another unfurled a banner: “Muslims Welcome. Fascists Get Out.” Close to 200 students kept up the noise for more than an hour in a University at Buffalo lecture hall on May 1, mostly drowning out the evening’s featured speaker, Robert Spencer, a conservative author and blogger who espouses a dark view of Islam. The event appeared to follow a familiar script, in which a large contingent of liberals muzzles a provocative speaker invited by a small conservative student club. But the propelling force behind the event — and a number of recent heat-seeking speeches on college campuses — was a national conservative group that is well funded, highly organized and on a mission, in its words, to “restore sanity at your school.” The group, the Young America’s Foundation, had paid Mr. Spencer’s $2,000 fee, trained the student leader who organized the event and provided literature for distribution. Other than the possibility of outside interference, little had been left to chance. The speeches are a part of the group’s mission of grooming future conservative leaders — Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller, a White House adviser, are among its alumni — and its long list of donors has included the television game show host Pat Sajak, the novelist Tom Clancy, the billionaire brothers David H. and Charles G. Koch, and the Amway billionaires Richard and Helen Devos, who gave $10 million to endow the Reagan Ranch near Santa Barbara, Calif., which the foundation runs as a preserve. (Their daughter-in-law, Betsy DeVos, the secretary of education, is not a donor, the group says.) Over the past two years, armed with a $16 million infusion from the estate of an orthodontist in California, Robert Ruhe, the organization has doubled its programming, including campus speeches. In 2016 that meant 111 speakers on 77 campuses. On the group’s website, it boasted of “dispatching” 31 speakers to colleges last month alone. In that time, the speakers have gotten edgier, more in-your-face and sometimes even meanspirited. Among them is Ann Coulter, whose canceled speech last month at the University of California, Berkeley, led the foundation, which was covering most of her $20,000 fee, to sue the college, arguing that it had violated the First Amendment in its failure to provide a suitable time and place for the event. The resulting clashes on university campuses, including protests and efforts to block speeches, have raised free speech questions. And at Berkeley, even liberals who oppose Ms. Coulter’s viewpoints said her speech should have been allowed to proceed. In the meantime, protesters have questioned whether such events are cynically intended to provoke reactions. “It’s part of a larger systematic and extremely well-funded effort to disrupt public universities and create tension among student groups on campus,” said Alexandra Prince, a doctoral student at Buffalo who circulated a petition to block Mr. Spencer.)

http://www.govexec.com/pay-benefits/2017/05/trumps-2018-budget-reportedly-targets-federal-retirement-programs/138014/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The proposed cuts to retirement benefits sparked swift condemnation by Democrats and groups representing federal workers and retirees. Richard Thissen, national president of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, called the proposal an “egregious attack on federal service and seniors” and “unconscionable.”  “The president purports to defend government annuities like Social Security and then proposes to eliminate cost-of-living adjustments for some and limit COLAs for those already retired and living on fixed incomes,” Thissen said. “It is beyond insulting. It is downright mean. Simultaneously promoting tax cuts and forcing a tax on just federal employees, through an increase in retirement contributions, is the height of hypocrisy.” J. David Cox, national president of the American Federation of Government Employees blasted the plan as something that “defies reason.” “The American people knows what’s fair, and raiding the already-modest retirement benefits of the people who inspect our food and lock up dangerous criminals is beyond the pale,” Cox said. “These proposals portray an astounding misplacement of priorities that the American public should not soon forget.” And Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., said cuts to federal retirement benefits will hurt the government’s ability to attract workers capable of fulfilling the missions of various federal agencies. “The biggest losers from President Trump’s draconian cuts to federal employee pay and benefits will be the American people who count on dedicated federal employees to care for our veterans, maintain our national parks, and process Social Security checks each and every day,” Connolly said. “Cuts of this magnitude will make it impossible to recruit and retain the qualified workforce we need to meet our nation’s challenges.”)

— Trump to end Rauner’s $32 million dollar tax dodge  (DIERSEN: What tax dodges have your critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes charged you with taking advantage of unfairly, unethically, and/or immorally?  Since 1972, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have charged me with unfairly, unethically, and immorally taking advantage of the education tax dodge. I deducted job-related graduate business, accounting, and finance courses 1972-1980 and 1992-1997 while I worked for IRS and then for GAO.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes shout that those courses were not job-related, did not help me carry out my job duties, were taken by me to get a job in the private sector, and were a distraction.)

FED SMITH
— Smart and Pretty: Federal Employee Crowned Miss USA – Ralph R. Smith
https://www.fedsmith.com/2017/05/16/federal-employee-crowned-miss-usa/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For the second year in a row, the winner of the Miss USA pageant is from Washington, D.C.  Miss District of Columbia, Kara McCullough, was crowned as the new Miss USA last Sunday at the Las Vegas pageant. McCullough is a 25-year-old scientist who works for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, Maryland. She was born in Naples, Italy and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is the daughter of a now retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer. As a result, she has traveled and lived in numerous locations around the world including Sicily, Japan, South Korea and Hawaii. Her salary at the agency is $77,490.00 according to data from FedsDataCenter.com. McCullough earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Radiochemistry from South Carolina State University. Her major provided her the opportunity to intern at several universities. This paved the way to her current career at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The newly crowned Miss USA said she wants to inspire children to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Last year, District of Columbia resident Deshauna Barber became the first-ever military member to win Miss USA. Perhaps one of the hardest parts of becoming a celebrity overnight is learning how to deal with the media. The new Miss USA quickly found herself embroiled in the health care controversy. When asked during Sunday night’s pageant whether she thinks that affordable health care for all U.S. citizens is a right or a privilege, she said it is a privilege. As a government employee, I’m granted health care and I see firsthand that for one to have health care, you need to have job. That, predictably, was not what some people wanted to hear as they believe health care is a guaranteed right. Twitter, of course, lit up with various views reflecting some of the issues in political divide in America that now infects most of our lives. Here is a brief sample of the variety of comments.)
— Is Social Security a Safety-Net or a Stipend For Wealthy Seniors? – Brenton Smith  (DIERSEN: According to Democrats, anyone who is not on welfare is wealthy, if not undeservedly filthy rich.  My Social Security ($2,028/year) is dramatically reduced because I get a $50,856 Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension.  My CSRS pension is dramatically reduced because my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career and forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 yeas old.)

GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE
— A Chemist at a Federal Agency Wins Miss USA – Eric Katz
http://www.govexec.com/federal-news/fedblog/2017/05/chemist-federal-agency-wins-miss-usa/137853/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A federal employee working at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was named Miss USA on Sunday evening, and pledged to spend her year with the crown encouraging more women to join government and eventually, agency leadership ranks. Kara McCullough, a 25-year-old chemist in NRC’s Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response, represented Washington, D.C., in the annual competition. McCullough grew up in the federal ranks as a military brat, with her father serving as a Navy chief petty officer. In addition to her NRC employment, McCullough volunteers annually at a science fair hosted by the Food and Drug Administration as a judge. McCullough said she would be an ambassador to bring more women into government science, technology, engineering and mathematics positions. She noted that in her experience in federal service, women are often underrepresented. “Personally, I want to see more women possessing leadership positions in private and government energy and health sciences agencies; not just conducting laboratory research,” McCullough said after her victory. “As a woman scientist in the government, I have witnessed and been in many meetings where the ratio of men to women is 10:2. I believe more women should be given the opportunity to be representatives in the energy and medical fields.” On stage, McCullough even made a passing reference to the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Asked whether she believed affordable health care for all Americans is a privilege or a right, she said in a response that made waves that it was a privilege, explaining: “As a government employee, I am granted health care and I see first-hand that for one to have health care, you have to have jobs.” NRC tweeted out a congratulatory message to McCullough on Monday.)

— How Trump gets his fake news  The president rarely surfs the web on his own, but his staff have made a habit of slipping news stories on to his desk—including the occasional internet hoax. – SHANE GOLDMACHER  (DIERSEN: Of course, my critics/opponents want you to get all your government and political news and commentary from them, and from them only.  How do the following Republicans get their government and political news and commentary: a) voters in your precinct, b) your Precinct Committeeman, c) the officers of your township, ward, and/or county party organizations, d) your representative on the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee, e) the IRP officers, f) the IRP National Committeeman and Committeewoman, g) your local, township/ward, county, Illinois, and federal elected officials, h) etc.?  My critics/opponents in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout.  They have their operatives and their dupes viciously destroy those who read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails or come to my defense. I should write a book about my critics/opponents.)

— Real Estate’s New Normal: Homeowners Staying Put – CONOR DOUGHERTY  (DIERSEN: What factors drag down the value of your home? Factors for 915 Cove Court in Wheaton include the subdivision being built in a watershed area and a former septic field, the tremendous amount of surface and subsurface storm water that flows onto the lot during and after heavy rains, the inadequate number of storm sewer inlets in the subdivision, the disruption, obstruction, and improper connection of 6″ and 4″ subterranean drainage lines when the home was built, the pouring the foundation walls on cracked footings, the improper installation and intentional blockage of exterior foundation footing tiles, the installation of only one sump pump when there should have been two or even three or even four, the many long and wide cracks in the basement floor, and the fact that all the storm water that gets into the storm sewer system on the lot is limited to the capacity of just one 4″ pipe.  What factors decrease the likelihood of your basement flooding?  For 915 Cove Court, they include the installation of steel reinforcement rods in foundation walls, the installation of interior footing tiles, my paying $900 when the home was built in 1984 to have all nine of the home’s downspouts directly connected to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my installing a backup sump pump, my unobstructing and properly connecting the aforesaid subterranean drainage lines to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my paying for unobstruction (the removal of stones) from some of the exterior footing tiles, my adding hundreds of feet of French drains and many storm sewer inlets on the lot and connecting them directly to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my properly sealing the many long and wide cracks in the basement floor, my paying for conversion to an overhead sewer system before the basement was finished in 2005, and my paying for a 20-W whole house natural gas backup electric generator for the home.  Since 1984, because of Wheaton’s failure/refusal to assure that building codes were enforced when the subdivision was constructed and when 915 Cove Court was built, I have been forced to spend many thousands of dollars and many hundreds of hours of my labor to stop basement flooding.)

— In Arizona, teachers can now be hired with absolutely no training in how to teach – Valerie Strauss  (DIERSEN: Democrats are moral relativists who believe that their end justifies their means. Democrats are disciples of Saul Alinsky. Democrats are nasty. GAO audits IRS. My Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates crowed that they succeeded in forcing me to take an $18,847 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old. (FROM THE ARTICLE: I always have a simple answer for people who ask questions like: Why would a guy with $3.4 billion care about saving a few hundred grand on his property taxes? My reply: It’s America, man. Nothing’s ever enough here. It looks like he bought the house next door to establish a buffer. He remodeled the outside so it looked nice, but apparently let the inside go to pot. (The appraiser was let inside that house, but not into Pritzker’s actual residence, which also got a reduction, over security concerns.) Then apparently he got tired of paying taxes on a house that wasn’t worth nearly as much as its appraised value.)

WIREPOINTS
— Why Won’t Illinois Political Reporters Ask Meaningful Questions? – Mark Glennon  (DIERSEN: When a political reporter like me asks a politician a question that he/she does not like, that politician has their operatives and their dupes strike back viciously.  However, it is extremely difficult for politicians to strike back at political reporters who are protected by powerful employers like ABC7, NBC5, CBS2, Fox News Chicago, WGN, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, Crain’s Chicago Business, Springfield State Journal Register, etc. However, because I AM NOT PROTECTED BY ANYONE, it is extremely easy for politicians to have their operatives and their dupes strike back at me. I am no longer the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman. I am no longer a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member. I am no longer the Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster. I am no longer an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member. I am no longer an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member.  I should write a book about politicians in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois a) who have had their operatives and their dupes strike back at me viciously and b) who threaten to strike back at me even more viciously if I ask any questions. Operatives and dupes for politicians almost succeeded, but failed, in keeping me out of Roskam’s press conference Thursday evening, May 4, 2017, at Sanguinetti’s fundraiser at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It really wouldn’t be that hard to change the narrative in Illinois from fictional to real. If reporters would simply ask they’d receive, or if they didn’t receive they could expose the politicians who have no answers. But they don’t ask. Political reporting on the state and local fiscal crises in Illinois remains like classical theater: part tragedy, part farce and entirely fiction. Try Googling “Rauner and Madigan,” Rauner and Rahm” or anything similar. Most of what you’ll find is little more than a stenographer’s report on name-calling and spin. Headlines like these predominate: “Rauner says Emanuel is ‘biggest disappointment of his time as governor.’ “Emanuel calls governor ’emperor without clothes.’” “Rauner calls Madigan ‘disingenuous.’” “Madigan accuses Rauner of ‘trying to change history.’” “Rahm and Rauner’s personal war of words.” “Rauner, Madigan offer new buzzword on impasse.” “Rauner, Emanuel Take Credit For Job Project, Blame Each For School Funding.” Who gives a damn? Where are headlines like, “A side-by-side comparison of Rauner’s and Madigan’s five-year revenue and spending hopes”? Or, “Rahm explains why actual financial statements show huge city losses while his budgets show balance.” Or, “Candidates for governor specify how much new revenue Illinois needs.” You won’t find them because no reporter asks what’s needed, so Illinoisans go blindly to the polls. Reporters could start with Governor Rauner. His biggest failure is not laying out a credible, long term plan to put the state on a sustainable path. Shame on him for not offering one, but shame on reporters for not insisting on one. The same certainly goes for Rauner’s critics. Next would be every other candidate for governor. Ask them how much revenue would come from a progressive income tax and how much more top brackets would pay. Ask how much new revenue they think the state needs to raise. Those things are key because honest answers would expose with certainty that survivable tax increases won’t be sufficient. Ask Rahm what Chicago’s pension contributions will be in five years under the can-kicking legislation he has sought, and how the city would pay them. That’s when full contributions would kick in. And ask them all why none of them is talking about a solution for the $130 billion in unfunded pensions and $50 billion in unfunded healthcare liabilities for retirees (which would not be reduced materially under any proposals now floating around). Answers to those questions and similar ones are critical to the death spiral we’re in, yet nobody has a clue to the answers. The politicians will duck the questions, but the press must get insistent — they have to demand specifics and rip the face off anybody who offers only the usual, bland generalities. Part of the problem is that political reporters are, well, political reporters. They cover politics — who is saying what about whom, so-and-so’s new ad, who’s up in the polls, how much money they’ve raised, etc. Those are important matters, but they shouldn’t entirely crowd out the most basic policy questions. They’re not all bad, but rays of light are few. Chicago Sun-Times reporters cover Chicago financial issues well. The Chicago Tribune’s editorial board is among the few who understand the depth of the problems we face. The Bond Buyer gets the facts right, though it’s written for the narrow-minded municipal bond industry. Another election season is underway. Will challengers for governor be asked in three different debates whether they would live in the Governor’s mansion, as Rauner was asked last in the last cycle? Will putting ketchup on hotdogs again make the headlines? Will name-calling and spin fill the news? Reporters must be more than stenographers writing down what politicians say, or we’ll sink further into darkness. Ask the questions. It’s really not that hard.)

— Lawmakers reach deal on legislation to make it easier to fire VA employees – Lisa Rein (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always promoted patronage. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

— Why James Comey Had to Go – Kimberley A. Strassel  (DIERSEN: In September of 1997, I was a 49-year-old GAO employee being paid $122,991/year in today’s dollars. QUESTION: Why did I have to go? ANSWER: Since 1988, I had been an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  I had always complained about patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  I was an old (49) non-veteran White male who had always been a conservative Republican. Employees in the office who were liberal, Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger talked and acted like they would leave GAO if GAO did not rid of its employees who were conservative, Republican, White, male, and/or older. Diersen could and would be used as an “example” to send a “message” to everyone a) that GAO gives tremendous preference to its employees who are liberal, Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran and b) that GAO does everything that it can to not hire and to get rid of its employees who are conservative, Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

FORTUNE
— James Comey’s Severance Package May Be a Lot Less Than You Thought – Lucinda Shen (DIERSEN: Constructively, my Democrat GAO superiors have had me on reduced pay administrative leave since September 30, 1997.  So far, in today’s dollars, that has cost me $1,412,820 ($10,250/mo. salary minus $4,238/mo. pension times 235 months equals $1,412,820).)
http://fortune.com/2017/05/11/james-comey-severance-package/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On the silver screen, members of the intelligence community are rolling in the dough. Think James Bond and his multi-thousand dollar watches, fitted suits, and Aston Martins. But for former FBI director James Corey, the reality is a little less explosive. Comey was set to earn $172,100 of his base salary in 2017, according to data from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). He may have also been eligible to earn an additional $15,000 based on his performance in 2017. But then President Donald Trump fired Comey Tuesday night—and now Comey is looking at a severance package rather than his full annual salary. When CEOs running a company are dismissed, they are often given a severance package representing a big chunk, if not more, of their annual pay. For instance, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer earned $27 million in 2016 in stock, options, and cash. And after Verizon completes its purchase of Yahoo, Mayer will be out with a hefty additional $23 million as her golden parachute. If Comey were any other federal employee, he would receive a severance close to about $32,254 for his 3 years, 8 months, and 7 days of service at the FBI, and his 56 years and 7 months of age, according to the OPM website. But since Comey is a presidential appointee—his severance is, well, zero, according to the OPM. Not that the lack of severance would leave Comey financially unstable: At the time of his nomination in 2013, Comey’s net worth was estimated at more than $11 million, according to CNN. This was thanks in part to his cushy job at the world’s biggest hedge fund, Bridgewater, where he worked prior to joining the FBI. Comey is also not exactly leaving the FBI in disgrace. Hedge fund managers and politicians have come to his defense, while those on both sides of the aisle are questioning Trump’s rational for firing Comey. The attorney general’s office said the decision was due to Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton emails case, but critics are questioning whether or not Comey’s investigation regarding Russia’s influence on the U.S. election had something to do with it. Prior to Comey, the Trump administration abruptly dismissed Preet Bharara, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York; Sally Yates, former acting Attorney General; and Angella Reid, the former White house chief usher.)
