My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes hint/imply/argue/shout that your degree is worthless if it is not from a top college, that is, that my degrees from NIU, Loyola, DePaul, and IIT are worthless. I transferred from IRS to GAO in 1980. DAILY HERALD
— Why wait? New DuPage board members already prepping for job – Robert Sanchez (DIERSEN: These “six freshman Democrats” will be under tremendous pressure from the Democrat Party to drive out of DuPage County individuals, organizations, companies, and governments that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. They will be under tremendous pressure from the Democrat Party to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, retaliation, and even worse things. Kaczmarek will be under tremendous pressure from the Democrat Party to immediately fire all the non-Democrat employees in the clerk’s office and replace them with Democrats.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: One week after six freshman Democrats were elected to the DuPage County Board, three of them attended meetings Tuesday to get a jump on what they will be doing for the next four years. The six, along with other county board members and countywide elected officials, won’t be sworn in until Dec. 3. . .Another Democrat — Jean Kaczmarek of Glen Ellyn — won her first elected position by defeating Republican incumbent Paul Hinds to become the next county clerk.)

— Report says Illinois Higher Education is Separate but Unequal (DIERSEN: Since 1966, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that instead of me, a) UIC should have admitted a minority in 1966, b) NIU should have admitted a minority in 1969, c) Loyola should have admitted a minority in 1972, d) DePaul should have admitted a minority in 1976, e) Roosevelt should have admitted a minority in 1980, and f) IIT should have admitted a minority in 1992.)
http://news.wsiu.org/post/report-says-illinois-higher-education-separate-unequal#stream/0

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce showed white students are disproportionately represented at selective public colleges, comprising 64 percent of freshman enrollment, even though they represent only about half of the college-age population. And in Illinois, report co-author Martin Van Der Werf explained, black students are severely under-represented at these schools. “Eighteen out of every 100 Illinois college-age young adults are black, but only about nine out of every 100 Illinois selective public college freshmen are black,” Van Der Werf said. “So their representation is only about half of their distribution of the population.” Latinos fare a bit better, accounting for 18 out of 100 freshman at Illinois selective public colleges, compared to 20 out of every 100 Illinois college-age young adults generally. Illinois State University, the University of Illinois Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are considered selective public colleges.)

November 11 Morning Edition

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD IN NAPERVILLE SUN: DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps crow about their success in a) promoting hatred against Trump in Naperville and b) getting voters in Naperville to punish Trump by voting for Democrats.
https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/news/ct-nvs-midterm-results-by-precinct-st-1111-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Despite a strong showing in Naperville in 2014 and 2016, unofficial DuPage numbers show Roskam took only half the Naperville precincts in 2018, helping propel Democrat Sean Casten to a victory. Results aren’t deemed official until all provisional ballots have been counted and validated. The deadline for that is Nov. 20. Hultgren’s previously red precinct map in Wheatland Township in Naperville went all blue, based on unofficial Will numbers, to give Democratic challenger Lauren Underwood of Naperville the win. Foster also gained momentum in the 11th Congressional race this year, picking up four DuPage Township precincts and a Wheatland precinct that in Naperville traditionally had been red for at least the last decade, unofficial results show. Foster performed much better in the Lisle and Naperville Township portions of the city, losing in three precincts Tuesday to his Republican challenger Nick Stella, and unofficial figures indicate the losses in those precincts were by 10 or fewer votes. Jim Ruhl, chairman of the Naperville Township Republican Organization, said what drove suburban voters to the polls was more related to personality than economics. “You cannot deny we have record job growth,” he said. And Ruhl expects voters will flip back in the next election cycle when the people they’ve elected fail to perform. “The very politics going on in Chicago are what will be coming. It will have a big impact on the DuPage County area,” Ruhl said. . .Several sections of the city remain primarily Republican. Spots where voters consistently vote Republican at the precinct level are located on the east side of Naperville between Chicago Avenue and Hobson Road and between South Washington Street and Plainfield-Naperville Road south of Oswego Road. Other pockets are located north of Book Road in the area near Naperville Presbyterian Church, in the south near Winding Creek Park, and in the area east of McDowell Grove Forest Preserve. . .Determining how a person will vote depends on multiple factors, including education, race, gender and socio-economic status, said Suzanne Chod, associate professor of political science and coordinator of gender and women’s studies at North Central College in Naperville. She said generally the more educated a person is the more likely he or she will vote for a Democrat. “Less educated people are more likely to vote Republican. Education is the biggest predictor of voting habits,” Chod said. People of color, women, and those who are on the higher end of the socio-economic scale, she said, also are inclined to vote Democratic. From a political science perspective, it’s no surprise Democratic candidates did well in Naperville. Chod said voters in suburban communities surrounding large cities tend to be wealthier and more educated. The fact that more people of color are moving into Naperville checks another box off the list. Kerr said Naperville’s demographics are changing as evidenced by the 800 people who attended a Naperville interfaith service last week in reaction to hate-motivated gun attack during a Jewish Shabbat service in Pittsburgh. The Jewish congregation was joined by the spiritual leaders of 11 faiths from the area, including Mormons, Hindus, Muslims and Catholics. “That’s the community we live in now,” Kerr said. “They’re concerned about people besides themselves.”)

MOTLEY FOOL
— 3 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Getting a Raise for 2019 Want a pay boost next year? Here’s how to score one. – Maurie Backman (DIERSEN: Federal employees cannot get significant pay increases by just asking for them. They must apply for promotions. My Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were beyond furious in 1986 when I successfully applied for a promotion to GS-13, currently $96,403/year. Because of that, they “pulled out all the stops” to stop me from ever getting a promotion to GS-14, currently $113,920/year. In 1987, they forced the GAO manager who had promoted me to GS-13 in 1986 to retire. He had hired me in 1980 and had gotten me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986. In 1989, they really “pulled out all the stops” to get rid of me. They threw me off audits of IRS, gave me unfair performance expectations, and gave me an unfair performance appraisal. In 1989, if Henry Hyde had not intervened for me, they might have succeeded in getting rid of me. Because it frustrated their tremendous efforts to get rid of me, they were beyond furious a) when in 1990, I successfully applied to work for the young Jewish female GS-15 in the office who was responsible for audits of federal financial institution regulators, b) when later in 1990, I became a Certified Fraud Examiner, c) when in 1994, I became a Certified Government Financial Manager, d) when in 1996, I became a Certified Financial Services Auditor, and e) when in 1997, I became a Forensic Accountant. They were especially beyond furious in 1997 when I earned a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT.)

Better yet, I should sue them.)
http://prod.headlineclub.org/2018/11/09/chicago-headline-club-demands-white-house-reinstate-jim-acostas-credentials/
(FROM THE ANNOUNCEMENT: We, the board of the Chicago Headline Club, the largest chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, demand that the White House immediately reinstate the full credentials of CNN reporter Jim Acosta. A free press is a pillar of our democracy. Without a free press, there are no independent agencies to inform the public, expose injustice and hold the powerful to account. Some of the most important reporting comes from those who cover the White House and our nation’s government each day. The president first insulted Mr. Acosta as he asked a question during a news conference. An intern then tried to remove a microphone from Mr. Acosta’s hand to stop him from asking questions. This is clearly confirmed by video, and accounts of other reporters at the press conference. Hours later, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Mr. Acosta’s credentials were being revoked indefinitely, meaning he would no longer have access to cover the White House on behalf of one of the country’s largest cable networks. To justify this outrageous retaliation, Ms. Sanders falsely accused Mr. Acosta of accosting the intern. Hours later, she followed up by propagating a doctored video, edited to make it appear as though he assaulted the young woman. This is disgraceful. Ms. Sanders, in announcing the revocation of Mr. Acosta’s credentials, said the administration appreciates and welcomes tough questions from journalists. This is comically absurd and there is only evidence to the contrary. This administration has routinely disparaged free press and belittled its value, it has demeaned strong news coverage, and has attacked reporters who dare set the record straight in the face of lies. It was bad enough to accuse Mr. Acosta of doing something he obviously did not do. That the White House would then attempt to support the lie by disseminating an altered video is especially detestable and shows the lengths to which this administration will go to wage war against the truth. Jim Acosta did nothing wrong. He is a devoted journalist who did exactly what his colleagues, bosses and the public expect of a reporter in his position: He questioned the leader of our country and demanded answers. He sought accountability. The banishment of Mr. Acosta from the White House is unprecedented in this country. Sadly, it is not an unfamiliar tactic. Public officials and elected leaders at all levels of government routinely refuse to speak to reporters they deem unfriendly and block access to entire news outlets. We saw this occur on Election Day when Rep. Steve King of Iowa barred the Des Moines Register from covering his election night event, refusing to credential any of their reporters. This treatment of journalists is inexcusable whether they cover the White House or a local school board. More importantly, a public official rebuffing accountability for their actions is a disservice to the people they are supposed to serve. No public official should be above scrutiny. And no journalist in this country should be punished for doing their job. If the White House truly values the work of the press, as Ms. Sanders indicated in her statement, there is an obvious way to demonstrate that: restore Jim Acosta’s credentials and end its vicious attacks on journalists.)

Better yet, I should sue them.)
http://www.gopusa.com/?p=58739
(FROM THE ARTICLE: At that point Acosta wasn’t a reporter asking questions. He was an activist debating policy and trying to change the president’s mind. “Most of the people there were serious reporters asking serious questions, but Jim Acosta, I thought, embarrassed himself today,” Fox News Sunday anchorman Chris Wallace said after the briefing. Let’s cast aside the officially stated reason for pulling Acosta’s White House credentials — that he laid his hand on a White House intern trying to pull the microphone away. Video shows physical contact. Viewers still are debating whether the contact actually was combative or just a byproduct of Acosta’s gesturing. Let’s instead talk about Acosta repeatedly interrupting Trump during a January 2017 press conference more than a week before his inauguration. Let’s talk about last June, when Acosta interrupted a historic signing ceremony with North Korea with his questions. Let’s talk about he shouted at those two leaders about nuclear weapons. When he didn’t get an answer, a hot microphone seemed to pick up a flustered Acosta saying, “Hey, if they’re not going to let me in the (expletive) meeting, that’s what happens … That’s the way it goes, baby.”)

https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-pritzker-illinois-marijuana-legalize-legislature-20181108-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kevin Sabet, head of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, which opposes legalization, said he thinks the study authors are biased. Sabet said they failed to account for the serious downsides of drug use, such as car accidents and substance abuse. He also said decriminalization of marijuana, which took effect in Illinois in 2016, addresses many of the social justice issues. Holdouts against legalization remain ready to fight it in the General Assembly. House Republican leader Jim Durkin said lawmakers should stop their rush toward legalization. “I will never support legalization,” he said. “I don’t like how quickly we are moving. Illinois should not be part of this lab experiment. I see no societal value.” Durkin supports medical marijuana for pain and end-of-life care and said that program appears successful in prohibiting access for underage use and the illegal drug market. He called for lawmakers to review the results when that pilot program expires in summer 2020, before moving beyond it, but said he does not know how much opposition remains in Springfield.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: HB40 reared its head in Tuesday’s election. Every incumbent who voted for the controversial measure was reelected, and sponsors of the HB4114 to repeal HB40 were defeated. They are state Reps. Peter Breen, Christine Winger and Sheri Jesiel. Breen’s defeat was particularly shocking. Along with being had been an outspoken opponent of HB40, which repealed the “trigger” language in Illinois stating that the day Roe v. Wade is ever modified or overturned, abortion would be illegal in Illinois with no exceptions. HB40 also removed the restriction on state funding for some abortions. After the bill passed and was signed by the governor, Breen filed suit to dismantle the legislation. Personal PAC, which supports abortion rights, spent more than $300,000 to unseat Breen, “and it was worth every penny,” Terry Cosgrove, president and CEO of Personal PAC told POLITICO, calling it one of the political action committee’s “biggest victories ever.”)

— New York Times Beats Race, Age Discrimination Class Claims (DIERSEN: Rather than fight race discrimination, fight gender discrimination, and/or fight age discrimination, virtually all of my superiors, supervisors, and coworkers in the federal government who were White, male, and/or older, and who were victims of the aforesaid discrimination, “cut deals” to keep their jobs. I should write a book about the aforesaid in GAO’s Chicago office who, to keep their jobs, agreed to help GAO a) waste my career and b) force me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old.)
https://news.bloomberglaw.com/class-action/ny-times-beats-race-age-discrimination-class-claims
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The New York Times Co. convinced a federal court Nov. 8 that employee allegations of race and age discrimination can’t be certified as a class action. There are too few employees in each of the proposed classes to justify class status, Judge P. Kevin Castel wrote for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The plaintiffs identified 10 employees for the race class and 24 for the age class.)

FORBES
— If You Don’t Want To Flip Burgers At 67, Do These 10 Things Right Now – Jack Kelly (DIERSEN: What are some of the things that you did to qualify yourself for better paying jobs and to keep those jobs? I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Here is what you should immediately start doing if you are in your late 30s and older: 1. Think critically if your type of work can be done later in life. Does your job have certain physical manual work requirements that have a built in expiration date as you age? Could technology easily disrupt your job? Can your position be relocated? Could a junior (cheaper) person take over your responsibilities with a little training period? Will your job be too taxing and stressful to continue in your 50s, 60s or 70s? 2. If your job doesn’t easily lend itself to working into your sixties, start figuring out a second career right away before it’s too late. 3. Start a side hustle. If it doesn’t work keep trying until something clicks. 4. Consider going back to school to earn a degree which may open some new doors, and offer a new lease on life. 5. Obtain training in a niche area that could lead to a second career. 6. Save and invest as much money as possible to allow you to retire on your own terms. This will be difficult because it requires giving up fancy vacations, flashy cars, and an extravagant lifestyle. 7. If you live in an expensive and high taxed neighborhood, sell your home, move to a lower cost state, and bank the savings. 8. Maybe pivot to a job with the government, education or other sectors that can’t discriminate like the private sector does. 9. Start a side business that is a passion but could also provide a steady stream of income. 10. Don’t bury your head in the sand and pretend that you’ll never grow old.)
— How Much Longer Will You Work? – Sara Zeff Geber
https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarazeffgeber/2018/11/08/how-much-longer-will-you-work/#ba8e51a32d2a
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Are you one of the many baby boomers who have done the math and determined that even with Social Security you have not saved enough money to retire? If so, welcome to a very large club. The Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) and the Federal Reserve estimate the average accumulated wealth for workers in their 50s and 60s is less than $150,000. That amount will surely not support a 30+ year retirement, especially in the coastal areas of the U.S. Most financial advisors are recommending accumulating assets of at least $1million to ensure you will be able to finance your full retirement, including health care costs and care for yourself and your spouse or loved one. If you don’t have quite that much, does it mean you will have to work forever or live in your wealthy cousin’s basement? Probably not, but it depends. First of all, if you are in good health, why do you want to retire? If you aren’t sick of what you are doing, hang in there for a while and accumulate a bit more savings. If you are chomping at the bit to leave your current employer or stop doing whatever draws a 1099 at the end of the year, then it may be time to consider what else you might want to do that would still earn a paycheck and be more aligned with your current interests and values.)

The following Democrats on the ballot in my precinct won: Sean Casten, JP Pritzker and Juliana Statton, Kwane Raoul, Jesse White, Susan Mendoza, Michael Fierichs, Jean Kaczmarek, Mary Ozog, and Linda Davenport. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Trump sparred with CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta, who asked him questions about the migrant caravan headed for the U.S. and the Russia investigation. “That’s enough, put down the mic,” Trump said to Acosta, as he tried to ask more questions. Acosta struggled with a woman in a maroon dress tried to take the microphone from him. She eventually succeeded and handed it to another reporter. “CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN.” Acosta tweeted just before 8 p.m. Eastern Time that Secret Service denied him entry to the White House grounds for his live shot. Press Secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement accusing Acosta of physically assaulting a White House intern and saying his press credentials had been revoked until further notice. “President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration. We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable,” Sanders wrote in the statement. The statement claimed, without evidence, that Trump has “given the press more access than any President in history,” and concluded, “As a result of today’s incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice.”)

https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20181107/dont-write-illinois-gops-eulogy-just-yet-election-expert-says
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Conservative Republican state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton, who narrowly lost to Gov. Bruce Rauner in the GOP gubernatorial primary, said state party leadership failed this election cycle. “The Illinois Republican Party needs new leadership at this point,” she said, suggesting Republicans from downstate or central Illinois could be up for the task. With Gov. Bruce Rauner out of the picture, so, too, is the money he sunk into GOP campaigns — and that’ll cause problems for Republican candidates, Redfield said. The GOP also will struggle until it finds its identity, Redfield said. The conservative wing led by Ives and activist Dan Proft has been targeting socially moderate Republicans to the detriment of the party, he said. “I suspect there’s going to be a real battle for control (of the state party),” Redfield said. “If they’re not sure who they are and they don’t replace Rauner’s money, they’re going to be in a world of hurt in two years, especially with (President) Trump at the head of the ticket.” Based on voter demographics, Republican political consultant Brad Goodman said, the party will become less and less relevant unless it can put up candidates young suburban women will support.)

— SALT Cap Comes Back to Haunt GOP With Key Tax Writers Losing Their Seats – Laura Davison
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-11-07/salt-cap-comes-back-to-haunt-as-key-gop-tax-writers-lose-bids
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Two of the key players behind the tax overhaul — Illinois’ Peter Roskam and Minnesota’s Erik Paulsen — were among the six casualties. They sit on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, whose Republican bench has been wiped out by losses, as well as retirements. Ten of the 24 Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee won’t return to Congress next year — in addition to Roskam and Paulsen, two members from low-tax states lost their re-election bids and six more decided to retire or run for other office. The loss of many of the committee’s top lawmakers means the GOP will need to rebuild members’ expertise in tax, trade and health-care issues. . .Roskam and Paulsen helped craft the 2017 bill and continued to support it even after a controversial provision was included to limit deductions to $10,000. Previously, they were unlimited. The lawmakers had hoped campaigning on the tax law’s other benefits, such as lower rates for individuals and more generous child tax credits, could offset voter frustration over the new cap. . .Roskam, who served as the House Ways and Means tax policy subcommittee chairman during the tax overhaul process, hails from a suburban Chicago district where the counties are some of the highest taxed in the state. About 49.3 percent of the tax returns filed in the district prior to the law change claimed the SALT deduction, according to data from the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center. Roskam’s Democratic opponent, Sean Casten repeatedly campaigned on eliminating the SALT cap. “The fact that nearly half of his own constituents claim this deduction didn’t prevent Peter Roskam from making SALT a target,” Casten said in a white paper he published about tax policy. Over the course of the campaign, Roskam softened his support for the SALT cap, saying it should be indexed to inflation.)

CHICAGO CITY WIRE
— How will Illinois’ political journalists vote on Tuesday? We have a guess. – LGIS News Service (DIERSEN: LGIS News Service DOES NOT CONSIDER ME TO BE A POLITICAL JOURNALIST.  My GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails drive lots of traffic to websites owned by LGIS News Service. I have been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. Since 2004, I have sent out a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email each and every morning. Since 2015, I have also sent out a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email each and every evening. Since 2004, those emails have included links to more than 317,000 articles and information about many upcoming events. What do you say to my critics/opponents who state that they are religious, conservative, and/or Republican, but who hint/imply/argue/shout that I AM NOT A POLITICAL JOURNALIST? Most commonly, to discredit me and to discredit my emails, they stress that no one pays me for what I do as the GOPUSA Illinois Editor, that GOPUSA ILLINOIS email subscriptions are free, that the emails contain no advertising or pictures, that I am a Republican Precinct Committeeman, and that I do not have a degree in journalism. I should write a book about my critics/opponents. They a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and/or the Illinois Republican Party platform, most commonly, the traditional family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, Second Amendment, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks, and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, c) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, d) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, and/or e) are operatives or dupes for the aforesaid.)
https://chicagocitywire.com/stories/511621503-how-will-illinois-political-journalists-vote-on-tuesday-we-have-a-guess
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If Illinois’ political journalists were the only ones voting on Tuesday, J.B. Pritzker, Mike Madigan and the rest of the state’s Democrats would win in a landslide. Chicago City Wire analysis of the primary voting records of 100 leading Illinois political journalists found that 93 percent of the primary votes they’ve collectively cast have been for Democrats, versus just seven percent for Republicans. All told, out of 424 total primary votes recorded by the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE), 395 of them were for Democrats. In the March 2018 primary, 57 of the 100 journalists reviewed voted in the Democrat primary. One, Fox 32 Political Editor Mike Flannery, voted in the Republican one. Of the 100 journalist voting records analyzed, 79 had cast more Democrat ballots than Republican ones and 18 recorded no primary votes. One journalist cast an equal number of Democrat and Republican ballots, and two cast more ballots for Republicans than Democrats. Those two are Capitol Fax’s Rich Miller (5 GOP / 4 DEM) and Doug Finke, a veteran reporter of the Springfield State Journal-Register (1/0). Miller, who founded the popular Capitol Fax newsletter in 1993, voted in Democrat primaries in 1994, 1996 and 1998, then Republican ones in 2000, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016 before pulling a Democrat primary ballot again this past March. Finke has cast one primary ballot since 1992, in a four-way 2006 Republican primary that included State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, Jim Oberweis, Bill Brady and Ron Gidwitz. Topinka won 38 percent of the primary vote before falling to incumbent Democrat Rod Blagojevich in the general election. . .How do your favorite Illinois political journalists vote in primary elections? Chicago City Wire analyzed the voting records of 100 of the state’s top politics and government journalists to test the conventional wisdom. Are they really Democrat-leaning?)

LOS ANGELES TIMES
— To measure the real base of California’s Republican support, look no further than Trump’s approval numbers – John Myers (DIERSEN: What are Trump’s approval numbers in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois? What do you say to Republican candidates in districts that have low Trump approval numbers a) who dump Trump to get elected/reelected and b) who dump Trump supporters like me to get elected/reelected?)
http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-california-republicans-2018-election-analysis-20181105-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: To calculate the size of the Republican base, just look at the president’s job-approval number. Find that loyal Trump supporter, goes the logic, and you’re looking at a voter who will stick with Republican candidates through hell or high water. That number, according to a recent poll, is about 39% of statewide likely voters. The nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California found that this core group of GOP voters is centered among the ranks of white male voters. Many live near San Diego or in the Central Valley. Most are registered Republicans, though some are unaffiliated “independent” voters. Many attended college but didn’t leave with a degree. Given the animus of the state’s elected officials toward Trump’s policies, 39% support for the president among likely California voters is a reasonably strong showing. (And it’s worth noting that the president’s job approval is much lower among all adults — another example of how the electorate doesn’t accurately reflect the state as a whole.) It’s less uplifting, though, for a Republican who’s trying to win statewide office. Trump may have helped reveal the contours of the party’s base, but his reputation could also create a shatterproof ceiling come election day.)
