(FROM THE ARTICLE: Like most of Illinois’ prominent Republicans, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk is not at the Republican National Convention.  He’s proposing a series of bilingual debates against Democratic Challenger Tammy Duckworth. Kirk tells CBS2 Special Correspondent Jay Levine that aside from a few physical limitations, he’s fully recovered from the stroke which nearly took his life four years ago. The first-term senator still uses a wheelchair most of the time, but mentally, he says he’s fully recovered. He says he could handle debates. “In fact, I have asked Tammy Duckworth to debate me en espanol,” says Kirk, who is up for other debates, and in English. Kirk has said he won’t endorse his party’s controversial presidential nominee, Donald Trump. He says he’ll write in retired Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell, and urge others to do the same. “I don’t think Donald Trump would make a good commander-in-chief, he’s too emotional,” Kirk says of Trump. In many ways, and on many issues, Kirk seems closer to Democrats than Republicans. “I am a moderate, pro-choice pro-gay rights guy who wants to spend less and tax less,” Kirk says. He says he also bucks his party where the NRA is concerned. Levine asked Kirk about a series of controversial statements he has made in recent memory. That includes a reference last year to Chicago’s South Side, when he referred to an unmarried colleague as a “bro with no ho.” “When you’re in a race like I’m in, everything is taken the wrong way,” Kirk says. But then he almost immediately let fly another headscratcher about the therapeutic benefits of pinot grigio. He says the wine has helped him talk more clearly. “Suddenly, as the pinot grigio hit the brain stem, my speech abilities came back. And I said to my girlfriend, ‘OK, it’s going to be only pignot grigio.’”  Kirk has waged a long, hard battle to recover from that life-threatening stroke. Now, he’s fighting for his political life, for a U.S. Senate seat Democrats feel may be their best chance to take that chamber from the GOP.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: With some Illinois Donald Trump supporters at odds with the state’s Republican party, Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider asked Trump supporters to get involved in races beside the presidential campaign when they return from Cleveland. Schneider said the state GOP organization has more tools to help elect Trump – and other Republican candidates – than political newcomers, who haven’t been involved in the party, can do alone. One way in particular Schneider said the state party can help candidates, is through personal data collection on voters. “We know more about you, I hate to say it, than you think,” Schneider said Thursday morning at the final breakfast meeting of the Illinois Republican delegation. “I mean, we know so much about you because of the data that we’re getting. I can tell you that we get the information from your credit cards and where you buy – what cable TV stations that you watch.” Schneider said all that information helps the Republican Party advertise to swing voters, instead of just the voters who are likely to mark ballots for the GOP regardless of advertisements. He said if Trump supporters want to help their candidate in a bigger way, they should get more involved in the established Republican Party because it already has a way to target specific voters for campaign literature. This comes as earlier in the week, Schneider introduced himself – and the state Republican Party – as the friend – not the enemy – of Trump supporters wary of party leaders who oppose Trump for president. “You all need the Illinois Republican Party,” Schneider said to the political newcomers who make up a lot of the Illinois Republican delegation at national convention. “We need you and you need us. You need us because we are the framework. We’re the grassroots. We’re the get-out-the-vote program. We’re the phone banks. We’re the data.” Schneider credited Bruce Rauner’s 2014 campaign for governor, in which Rauner contributed millions of dollars from his own bank account, for helping build the state GOP’s database on voters. Schneider says Republicans are targeting 22 state legislative districts currently held by Democrats around Illinois that he thinks can flip to Republican this November. Schneider says this election could help take away the Democratic supermajorities in the state House and Senate – if more political newcomers like the Trump delegates get involved.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Did you realize that, when you took Metra, Pace or the Chicago Transit Authority to work or school today, you were engaged in “social engineering?” Well, you were, according to a section of the 2016 Republican Platform that was adopted this week and on which Donald Trump and Mike Pence will now run. And it’s time for such “government transit” to get its hands off of the U.S. Highway Trust Fund, the GOP says. Under current law, proceeds from the federal 18.4 cents a gallon tax on gasoline are split between roads and transit, with the latter usually getting about a fifth of the total. The fund has come perilously close to running short in recent years, in part because people are driving less but the per-gallon tax has remained frozen for many years. Faced with that, GOP House lawmakers a few years ago moved to switch the entire amount to roads, something that would have forced transit to battle it out for every other demand for federal general funds. That got squelched when a handful of GOP congressmen from urban areas, including Chicago, revolted. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party on Wednesday revoked the convention credentials of a Donald Trump delegate from Chicago “for publicly-made racist comments and threats of violence” on a Facebook posting. Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider told the Sun-Times the party, “has zero tolerance for racism of any kind and threats of violence against anyone.”  The executive committee of the Illinois GOP party made the decision regarding Fifth Congressional District delegate Lori Gayne after party officials said she confirmed to them she was the author of the offending post, made under a different name. Gayne was elected a Trump delegate in the March Illinois primary from the North Side district. Gayne told the Sun-Times on Wednesday she wrote the post, after a reporter from the newspaper raised the matter with her on Tuesday evening, while she was with the Illinois delegation on the convention floor. The Republican National Convention welcome party was thrown Sunday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Gayne wrote, over a photo of law enforcement officials on the roof on the iconic building on the Lake Erie shore: “Our brave snipers just waiting for some “N—- to try something. Love them.”  She used an abbreviation for the racial slur. Schneider said in a statement, as party chairman,  “I condemn in the strongest terms the racist comments and threats of violence made by Ms. Gayne, a member of our delegation to the Republican National Convention. Ms. Gayne brought the statements to the attention of Illinois Republican Party staff after being contacted by Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times,” Schneider said in statement. “Let me be unequivocally clear — racism and threats of violence have absolutely no place in the Illinois Republican Party or in a civil and inclusive society. “The Illinois Republican Party believes that inciting violence against anyone attending the RNC places state delegations, demonstrators exercising their First Amendment rights, and law enforcement personnel needlessly in harm’s way. Therefore, I have consulted with the Executive Committee of the Illinois Republican Party and have revoked Ms. Gayne’s credentials as a delegate to the Republican National Convention.” Gayne offered her “deepest apologies” in a statement, saying, “I strongly regret the offensive statements I recently made on social media. Her quiet plan to wrest the speech away and make it her own set in motion the most embarrassing moment of the convention: word-for-word repetition of phrases and borrowed themes from Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic convention eight years ago. The ridicule from both Democrats and Republicans was instant and relentless, disrupting what was meant to be a high point of the convention. It was, by all accounts, an entirely preventable blunder, committed in front of an audience of 23 million television viewers, that exposed the weaknesses of an organization that has long spurned the safeguards of a modern presidential campaign, such as the free software that detects plagiarism. “It just shouldn’t have happened,” said Matt Latimer, a White House speechwriter for President George W. Bush. “This was an easy home run speech: a successful, attractive immigrant talking about her husband.” Nobody seemed more startled than Mr. and Ms. Trump, who arrived in New York on Tuesday morning after a flight from Cleveland to find themselves at the center of a bizarre uproar over authenticity, plagiarism and a knotty question: Why did the wife of the Republican nominee borrow passages from the wife of the current Democratic president? Ms. Trump spent most of Tuesday out of sight, while her husband vented his frustration and anger throughout the day. This account of how a speech written by professionals was transformed into the problematic version delivered on Monday night at the Quicken Loans Arena is based on interviews with more than a dozen people involved in and close to the Trump campaign. Many of them spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose details that were supposed to remain confidential. It reinforces dominant themes of Mr. Trump’s campaign that still linger from the primary, which his team has struggled to change: a deliberately bare-bones campaign structure, a slapdash style and a reliance on the instincts of the candidate over the judgments of experienced political experts, like Mr. Scully and Mr. McConnell. The two original speechwriters were not aware of how significantly the speech had been changed until they saw Ms. Trump deliver it on television Monday night, along with the rest of the country. In the prime-time address, Ms. Trump unfurled a sequence of life lessons — about how “your word is your bond,” about “your dreams and your willingness to work for them,” and the “integrity, passion and intelligence” of her parents — in the same sequence and using much of the same language that Mrs. Obama employed in 2008. Just like Mrs. Obama, Ms. Trump explained how she wanted to pass those lessons on to her children and the children of the world. And just like Mrs. Obama, she offered a gauzy invocation about the limitlessness of aspirations when they are matched by determination. In a series of evolving explanations, Trump aides and allies dismissed the episode as a trivial distraction, alternating between outright denial that Ms. Trump’s speech had used word-for-word phrases from Mrs. Obama and blaming the news media. “Ninety-three percent of the speech is completely different,” declared Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey. Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman, pegged the number of suspicious words at 50. “And that includes ‘ands’ and ‘thes’ and things like that,” he said on Tuesday. Across the country, slack-jawed Republican political operatives and speechwriters expressed expletive-laden bewilderment at the organizational breakdown allowing such an episode to occur. “It’s like some guy trying to paddle across a river in a rowboat who shoots a hole in his boat,” said Stuart Stevens, who wrote speeches for Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann, throughout the 2012 campaign.)

The best news is Trump delegates won 39 of the 54 slots on the ballot in the March 15 Primary (three from each of Illinois’ 18 congressional districts). Ted Cruz won nine and John Kasich six. In other words, the Illinois delegation is overwhelmingly a Trump delegation. Another thing I love is the fact most of the Trump delegates are regular people – taxpayers with real jobs who pay the bills. Many are also brand new to the political process. In other words their hands are clean of Illinois GOP past misdeeds. Many got involved this year solely because of Donald Trump. Incredibly many in the media deem all of this as some kind of bad thing. Trump delegates have been openly mocked, with the Trump-hating Chicago Tribune (a/k/a tronc) patronizingly calling them “unorthodox.” The dying rag even scoured social media postings of Illinois Trump delegates hunting for embarrassing tidbits. Meanwhile anti-Trump zealot Pat Brady who proudly stands-by the advice he gave in December on Chicago radio that “You’ve got to take [Trump] out with a headshot” – is still regularly cited by media outlets as if he has a clue. Instead of serious analysis of this Republican National Convention and the Trump phenomenon, the local press is largely obsessed with rehashing stories about which do-nothing career politicians aren’t going to Cleveland. No one bothers to ask why a Convention which is centered around a do-er and a successful builder like Trump shouldn’t be grateful that some of the failed politicians from one of the worst run states in the country won’t be transporting their ineptitude across state lines. Donald Trump represents new hope for the Republican Party. He has yet to be elected to any public office but he’s already making the GOP better and more diverse here in Illinois. He’s expanding the base and is generating energy we haven’t seen in the GOP since Ronald Reagan. Of course panicky Democrats are going to call him racist and sexist. That kind of blatantly false attack was always expected in the face of Trump’s decades-long record of hiring and promoting thousands of women and minorities. Hillary and her media lapdogs know Trump’s message of making America great again and expanding economic opportunity for all is particularly attractive to African-American and Hispanic folks who remain trapped on the Liberal Plantation. Donald Trump isn’t the Republican Party’s problem. Trump’s doing his job and so are his supporters. It’s the failed GOP players who sit around in Illinois carping at Trump who have some explaining to do. It’s their selfishness and total lack of leadership for years which has made the Republican Party in Illinois a less than welcome place for minorities. Here are just a few illustrations.)

The Tribune article claims the Cronin family is used to being compared to the Kennedy’s. Comparing Dan Cronin to Kennedy does have some validity. I think most would agree the common link is playing the taxpayer for the fool and capitalizing on the people’s laziness when it comes to holding them accountable. In order to hold public officials accountable, you must first know the truth.  You start by putting all the pieces of a puzzle together to better see the real picture. The challenge in putting together political puzzles is being able to actually find all the puzzle pieces as they have become masters at hiding them. We have spent over two years exposing malfeasance at the College of DuPage and have done our best to follow up on every tip we received. One of the interesting tips we received dealt with Dan Cronin, current DuPage County Board Chairman.  The tip was that COD hired him to do workers compensation claims on behalf of the college. We first covered this matter in this article, which confirmed he was in fact doing legal work on behalf of the college, but we still had some loose ends. I think we now have those last puzzle pieces to see the real picture and better understand how things operate in DuPage County. As earlier reported, we did seek a comment from Chairman Cronin regarding his representation of the college on workman’s compensation claims which can be viewed in this article. Please note he never truly answered our question but did confirm, his “law firm has represented the consortium since 2008.” The response, knowing what we know now, was nothing short of political duck and cover. Cronin’s response no longer passes the smell test.  The  COD Board of Trustees recently voted to release a large volume of closed session minutes.  Currently available are minutes between February of 2000 and August of 2009. That is a lot of reading to do and so far, it’s clear those running COD had no problem violating the Open Meetings Act and taking action in closed session on a litany of matters. I just can’t vote for him,” Chirico said. “I think he’s too divisive. He’s not, in my view, the kind of leader I want for this country. I want someone to bring our country together.” With the ongoing racial tension in the U.S., as well as pressure against LGBT groups and other minorities, Chirico said Trump is not the man to lead. “Some of that (divisiveness), in part, is created by strong rhetoric,” Chirico said. “Having someone who is calmer can help diffuse those things.” Rather than attend the convention, many of the Republican Party faithful plan to shore up the ranks back home. Naperville Township Republican Chairman Carl Schultz said he “mostly is concentrating local races” through grassroots efforts. A few committeeman vacancies still need to be filled in the upcoming weeks so Republicans can begin work campaigning after the convention. “I think it’s important. There is an expectation that thousands of more people will be voting in November,” Schultz said. “We had a pretty good turnout in the primaries.” He said reaching voters with one-on-one contact works far better than mailings, which can’t answer voter questions. “I certainly think people look at (fliers)… some read through it or save it for later, and some recycle it so it has no chance to be read,” he said. Schultz said the goal is to get voters to consider all the races on the ballot, not just the one for president. “Most people are going to vote on the top. We are hoping they might go all the way down the ballot,” he said. Another fear is that a dislike of both candidates might keep voters away. Naperville Township Supervisor Rachel Ossyra said it is important that voters not stay home for November’s election, even if they don’t agree with the candidates at the top of the ticket. Votes still need to be cast in local races. “Skip it and move on to the next one,” Ossyra said. “There are 20 other elections on the ballot that are important.” “Your local quality of life is on the ballot,” she said. Ossyra, who was on the primary ballot as a delegate for Republican candidate Marco Rubio, said she is not supporting Trump for president. “I’m not going to be out campaigning for him, no,” Ossyra said. “It doesn’t fit my core values on many levels, in terms of diversity and policy toward people.” DuPage County Republican Chairman Brian Krajewski said don’t expect the presidential candidates to view Illinois as much of a battle ground compared to nearby states such as Iowa and Ohio. On the other hand, he anticipates both parties will throw a great deal of money at the U.S. Senate race between Republican incumbent Mark Kirk and Democratic rival Tammy Duckworth. “That will be an important race in Illinois. It has ramifications on who has control of the (U.S.) Senate,” Krajewski said. As far as the top of the ticket, “I am definitely supporting our presidential candidate,” he said. Krajewski, who likely won’t attend the convention because of prior commitments, said Trump is getting a support from an unlikely group — union workers, who traditionally vote Democratic. He said they philosophically side with Trump on the need for tighter U.S. security and they believe his business background will be better at turning the economy around. “For blue collar workers, he’s the candidate,” Krajewski said. He said also stressed the importance of grassroots efforts, especially reaching the voters who have no party affiliation. “People in the middle are who decides the races. It’s the independents,” he said. The independent voters, he said, helped Barack Obama to carry DuPage County in the last two elections. “Democrats won the national level, Republicans on the local level,” he said. Krajewski said also it shows voters are happy with Republicans at the local level. “And that has much more impact on your everyday life,” he said.)

No person shall be required to attend or support any ministry or place of worship against his consent, nor shall any preference be given by law to any religious denomination or mode of worship. ~ (Source: Illinois Constitution.)  If the state proposed advisory council was called the Christian American advisory council Act, the screams from the left would be deafening. Rauner instructed reporters to keep their questions focused on the commission. Some strayed off topic anyway and asked the governor why he was not joining the presumptive leader of his party. Rauner declined to comment. “I’ve said everything I’m going to say about the presidential race,” Rauner said. But the governor’s only public comments came in March when he told students in Wilmette that he was “horrified” by the rhetoric in the Republican presidential campaign and that “it’s ugly and it’s nasty and it’s weird.” He stopped short of mentioning Trump’s name. That same month, he also promised to back the eventual Republican nominee, regardless of who it would be. But he has refused to formally endorse Trump, declining to lead the Illinois delegation at the GOP Convention in Cleveland. In fact, he will not attend next week’s convention at all. On Tuesday, Rauner ignored a question about where he would be during the convention. Sen. Mark Kirk, a fellow Republican in the midst of a contentious re-election campaign, will also skip the convention. But he has taken a more aggressive approach toward the presumptive nominee. Kirk rescinded his support for Trump last month, saying in a statement, “After much consideration, I have concluded that Donald Trump has not demonstrated the temperament necessary to assume the greatest office in the world.” Last week Trump attacked Kirk for refusing to support him in a closed-door meeting with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill. Kirk fired back, calling Trump an “Eastern, privileged, wealthy bully.” If a snub from a pair of Illinois politicians in his own party wasn’t enough, two demonstrations railed against Trump outside of Chicago’s Trump Tower.
