Democrats in California work hard to punish businesses and sometimes they
succeed without trying. Consider a 2018 law that imposes gender quotas for
boards of public companies based in the state, which a new study finds
effectively destroyed $60 billion in wealth over night. Last September the
state enacted a law requiring all public companies headquartered in California
to have at least one female director by the end of 2019 and two by the end of
2021. Democrats claimed that increasing board diversity would benefit
corporations. Investors supposedly needed politicians to tell them what was in

During a post-election speech at the Agora Grand Event Center on Tuesday,
Safiya Khalid said she has always been told she holds many “firsts” in her
family — the first to graduate high school, the first to graduate from college.
On Tuesday, she also added a first for the city, becoming Lewiston’s first
Somali-American to serve on the City Council. At 23, she’s also the youngest.
On Wednesday morning, just a few hours after she defeated fellow Democrat
Walter “Ed” Hill with nearly 70% of the vote, news outlets were lining up to
interview her. Khalid said she had been contacted by NPR and CNN, among others.
The Washington Post interviewed her Tuesday night, weighing in on a race marked
by her historic win, the racism she faced and harassment allegations against
members of her campaign. Khalid said early Wednesday that she was still “in
shock” from the victory, as well as the amount of national attention she’s
receiving. “Lewiston is out there,” she said. Khalid, with her mother and two
younger brothers, fled Somalia at the age of 7, arriving first in New Jersey
before relocating to Lewiston. For the Somali community, especially immigrants
who began settling in Lewiston in the early 2000s, Khalid’s election is a
significant step. Fowsia Musse, who works with Healthy Androscoggin and Maine
Community Integration, came to the United States in 1995 and was among the
first Somali refugees to settle in Lewiston. The day after Tuesday’s election,
Musse said “words cannot describe how happy I am for the representation we are
now being given” in city government. “I’m very happy for Safiya’s victory in
this electoral process,” she said in an email. “Safiya has worked relentlessly
hard to earn this. I want to congratulate the other winners, and thank them for
the fair fight. Together we can all move forward as a united Maine. Best wishes
to all the candidates!” Jordy Dushime, founder of the African Youth Alliance
and recent graduate of Lewiston High School said Wednesday that it’s
“revolutionary that a minority and especially an immigrant/refugee is able to
take place in the decision making of Lewiston.” Dushime, 19, came to Lewiston
from Burundi three years ago, and founded the African Youth Alliance as an
after-school resource for teenagers. “As a black refugee woman, she is able to
inspire us, the future generations to strive to participate in our communities
and our beloved state,” he said. Rilwan Osman, executive director of Maine
Immigrant & Refugee Services, said Wednesday that Khalid’s win marked “a huge
change for our community.”)

EDITOR: President Donald Trump came to Chicago on Monday and told the truth
about our dysfunctional government — and Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the news
media got the vapors, gasping that he insulted Chicago and its wonderful citizens.
Fake news — again! I was with President Trump over lunch, and listened to his
candid and often very humorous assessment of challenges and opportunities for
our nation. He demonstrated a grasp of world events that was remarkable, and he
laid out his strategy and assessments in plain, direct language. He started
with Chicago, “this beautiful place that’s run so poorly.” He recounted his
call to the mayor and offer to work together — and shrugged at the silence
since. He expressed heartbreak at the ongoing violence in too many
neighborhoods, pointing out that it should be inexcusable for some of us not to
be better protected by our government. He pointed out how he supported the
members of the Chicago Police Department as he mocked the showboating by police
Superintendent Eddie Johnson. I witnessed firsthand his rapport with
rank-and-file officers and their support for this president. Everything he said
reflected a concern for the people of Chicago and a love of this great city,
even as he scorned weak leadership. Mere days after the superintendent was
found asleep in his car at a stop sign, must we all extol him despite the
city’s high crime rate and his evident failures of leadership? Chicago is a
wonderful city, but the people of the city and all the amenities it offers, are
separate and distinct from our city government. Chicago is great, but our lousy
government drags it down. For example, during CTU’s 10-plus-day strike,
students languished, once-in-lifetime sporting experiences were missed, as
teachers danced to Michael Jackson tunes. And over what? Mayor Lightfoot and
the functionally insolvent Chicago Public Schools offered teachers $100,000,
along with Cadillac pension and health benefits, for nine months of work each
year — as an opening bid! There’s nothing here that should be criticized? So,
please give it a rest, Mayor Lightfoot: You should embrace the Trump
administration and seek help for our problems. Instead of looking for ways to
fight the president, why not sit with him and share ideas on how to improve our
home? If by working together you improve or save one life, then you’ve made our
great city even better.)

— Can Democrats Win Online in 2020? – Charlie Warzel (DIERSEN: QUESTION: Who
focuses on stopping me from sending out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails? Who focuses on
stopping everyone from reading those emails? ANSWER: Democrats and Democrat

checkers? While I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at GS-13
Step 1-10 levels, currently $98,198-$127,654, I increasingly worked as a
referencer, that is, as a fact checker. That work required assuring the accuracy
and support for each and every word, number, table, graph, chart, conclusion,
opinion, and recommendation in GAO reports. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the
last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently
$82,279-$93,592. My other fact checking qualifications include my becoming a

— Make These Tax Moves for 2019 Before It’s Too Late Looking to lower your tax
bill? Here are a dozen steps to take as the end of the year approaches. – Laura
Saunders (DIERSEN: Trump should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for
married filing jointly because the SALT cap discourages marriage and
homeownership.) https://www.wsj.com/articles/make-these-tax-moves-for-2019-before-its-too-late-11572600606 (FROM THE ARTICLE: The
most common itemized deductions are for state and local taxes (SALT),
charitable donations and mortgage interest. Now that Congress has limited the
SALT deduction to $10,000 per return both for single and married joint filers,
it’s often easier for singles than couples to benefit from itemizing. For
example, a married couple who deducts the limit of $10,000 of SALT needs more
than $14,400 of other deductions to benefit from itemizing for 2019, because
their standard deduction is $24,400. But a single filer who deducts $10,000 of
SALT only needs other write-offs totaling more than $2,200, because his
standard deduction is $12,200.)

TECH CRUNCH — Work permit delays disrupt foreign workers’ career plans (DIERSEN: What disrupted you career plans? My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $19,568 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. In 1971 when I was 22 years old, Oldsmobile withdrew a job offer that I had accepted saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS.) https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/30/work-permit-delays-disrupt-foreign-workers-career-plans/
