— Naperville Police chief: No evidence of hate crime in Buffalo Wild Wings incident – Marie Wilson
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20191106/naperville-police-chief-no-evidence-of-hate-crime-in-buffalo-wild-wings-incident
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The confrontation was triggered by a white man, who officials have not identified, whose comments led managers at the restaurant to ask the party of 18 to move. Fuller said the man, who does not live in Naperville, has been notified he is banned from all Buffalo Wild Wings locations and the company is working on protocol to ensure the ban is enforced “within the bounds of the law.” . . . Buffalo Wild Wings says the managers — both women, one black, one white — were fired after the company’s internal investigation. Fuller said the host involved is a black man who quit his job the evening of the confrontation. . .Buffalo Wild Wings already was in the process of rolling out a diversity and sensitivity campaign and training program called RESPECT, Fuller said. A poster in the back of the restaurant was in place and the company is taking steps to begin enhanced training. Fuller, along with Buffalo Wild Wings President Lyle Tick and a regional manager, met Tuesday with Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico and city council member Benjamin White. “They were very forthright. They described their internal investigation and their decision to remove the employees who were removed,” Chirico said. “They apologized for the painful experience for the families as well as the image of the city.” White said the community “is taking a hit” from the fact the encounter occurred within its boundaries. “People are asking me, ‘Are we a racist town?'” White said. “I don’t want it to give a false perception of our community.”)

— Dear millennials, now is the time to invest in your unexpected future – JERRY DAVICH (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who saved far less for their retirement than I did, I was able to do save more for my retirement because I avoided the draft, the federal government grossly overpaid me, I had good health, I paid less federal income tax by itemizing, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, I did not give lots of money to churches like they did, etc.)
https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/opinion/ct-ptb-davich-saving-for-retirement-while-young-st-1030-20191029-ljhsqft2drg2veqxg2zxbmmpmy-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One hundred dollars a month. This was how much money my financial adviser told me to save, back when I was in my 20s and 30s. “Damn it, Jerry, if you do this you’ll have a retirement nest egg waiting for you 30 years from now,” George Wilson told me sternly. He was one of my father’s poker buddies who once sold me a life insurance policy. He was intimidating and outspoken. He also was 100% right. Wilson tried slipping me a proverbial ace in the hole for my losing hand of cards in life. I was too stupid and shortsighted to accept it. After a few years of scraping together $100 each month to pay into this seemingly mythical retirement fund, I stopped contributing. I eventually cashed it in to pay off some credit card bills, telling myself that I couldn’t afford it any longer. It was the cheapest rationalization I could afford back then. At that point in my life, I was earning a meager income in a family food business, I had two young children, and I was already thinking of cashing in my marriage. Putting away $100 a month, every month for 30-plus years, seemed impossible. My wiser self in the future has never forgiven my stupid self from the past. In my younger days, I likely spent $100 a month on “must have” purchases – my Coca-Cola addiction, drive-through junk food, weekend entertainment in Chicago, a massive collection of music cassettes and CDs, you name it. These unnecessary expenditures, in hindsight, have only compounded my anger toward myself. I try to keep this in mind when I now hear about millennials who believe retirement savings is a myth or a rumor they’ve been told by gray-haired geezers like me. What do we know, right? In my 20s, I thought the same thing about “old man Wilson,” who was only in his 40s at the time. He seemed to be in his 70s or 80s. (He’s still around. Please don’t tell him.) Youth has a way of distorting our perception of life. We had more answers than questions. We had more time than money. We had more reasons to not think about getting older, getting unhealthy, or getting prepared for retirement. It all seemed so… impossible, or at least improbable. As if it would never happen.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Chicago teachers can save 244 unused sick days, retire early under new contract The tentative agreement raises the cap on accrued sick days from 40 to 244; some longtime teachers could use those days to retire a year early and still collect their full pension. – Matthew Hendrickson (DIERSEN: Almost all of my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government took many more sick days than I did. Starting in 1966, when I was 18 years old, they made it very clear that they did NOT want me to take any sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I should NOT get that benefit for many reasons including I avoided the draft, had good health, was non-poor, had more education, professional certifications and/or licenses than they did, was Republican, was conservative, was Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), was 100% German American, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, and/or my ancestors have been in America since 1844. Nevertheless, they are furious that my Civil Service Retirement System pension is higher because of my many used sick days.)

In 1974, when I was a 25 year old GS-11 (currently $68,897/year) IRS employee, I was one of an extremely few IRS employees who was not a Democrat, minority, female, veteran, non-Protestant, and/or non-German American. My IRS superiors were under tremendous pressure a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females and b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who had not made GS-13 (currently $98,198) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $116,040) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $136,495) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $165,500) by age 40. To get rid of me, and to retaliate against me for complaining about political affiliation discrimination and reverse discrimination, my Democrat IRS superiors put me under an ethics cloud. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my travel vouchers were fraudulent. SEE: https://www.gao.gov/products/463866 Of course, that ended whatever IRS career that I might have had. — DISGUSTING, TRAGIC: In Virginia Suburbs, Republicans Sound a Lot Like Democrats The off-year state legislative elections next Tuesday will test whether Republicans can appeal to anti-Trump voters by running on issues that Democrats usually espouse. – Reid J. (FROM THE ARTICLE: As Glenn Davis seeks a fourth term in Virginia’s House of Delegates, he is going door to door with campaign literature touting his role in expanding Medicaid, his efforts to address gun violence and his support for L.G.B.T.Q. anti-discrimination legislation. There’s a photo of him with the state’s Democratic governor, Ralph Northam. Yet Mr. Davis is a Republican. He voted with his party to adjourn a special legislative session on gun control that Mr. Northam called this summer — 90 minutes after it began. When he campaigned for lieutenant governor in 2017, he said he was “running to do exactly what Donald Trump did in Washington.” Now, he is among a coterie of Republicans who are campaigning on issues long identified with Democrats ahead of Tuesday’s elections for the Virginia legislature, shifting away from a Republican base that in the age of Trump can no longer win suburban elections on its own. “We have a little bit of a messaging issue, we do,” Mr. Davis said in an interview this week.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: All of them originate with a company called Locality Labs L.L.C., which created similar networks of questionable local websites in Illinois and Maryland, and state and local business and legal sites around the country. There’s little information about these sites. They typically lack mastheads, local addresses and clear disclosure of their ownership or revenue sources. Voters could easily become confused about the origins of information from these seemingly innocuous local-sounding outlets. In 2016, for example, websites in the Illinois network interviewed Republican candidates favored by a conservative state political committee, which then paid to mail print newspaper versions of the sites to voters without identifying them as political advertising.)

— New marijuana store licenses: Residents of 681 Illinois census tracts can get a leg up on applications. Are you eligible? Here’s which areas qualify, and why. – Ally Marotti (DIERSEN: Pot pushers want all of Illinois to be designated a “Disproportionately Impacted Area (DIA).” I fear that the pot pushers in Springfield will vote to force the sale of pot in DIAs even if the municipality or county had voted to ban the sale there. Where pot is sold, it brings down everything and everyone around it. How close is a DIA to where you live or work? Illinois Democrats want pot shops to open up in DIAs to revitalize those areas. Wheaton is the DuPage County Seat. The Democrats who run the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (IDCEO) have outrageously designated western Wheaton (Census Tract 8426.04) as being a DIA, that is, an area that has high rates of arrest, conviction, and incarceration related to cannabis as well as poverty and unemployment. Needless-to-say, that must be a mistake. SEE: on https://censusreporter.org/profiles/14000US17043842604-census-tract-842604-dupage-il/ and https://www.chicagocityscape.com/maps/index.php?place=censustract-17043842604 While Wheaton has banned the sale of pot, the Democrats who run Illinois may very well vote to allow pot shops in DIAs thereby overriding Wheaton’s ban. I ask the following and everyone else who has an interest in Wheaton to ask the IDCEO to immediately rescind its western Wheaton DIA designation: Wheaton Mayor and City Council members, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Milton Township officers and trustees, DuPage County Board Chairman and County Board members, and federal and Illinois officials who represent or seek to represent any part of Wheaton.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Applications for licenses to operate 75 marijuana stores are now available, offering the first path into the industry for those who don’t already operate a cannabis business in Illinois. A map the state released identifying areas hit hardest by the war on drugs could play a vital role for some applicants. More than 2 million people live in the hard-hit areas identified on the map. A qualified resident of those areas who applies to grow and sell recreational marijuana will get an additional 50 points on the application, which has a maximum score of 250 points. . .To create the map, officials broke the state down by U.S. Census tracts. To qualify, an area had to have an average annual rate of at least 30 marijuana-related arrests per 10,000 residents or at least one marijuana-related parole per 10,000 residents. Roughly 10 years of arrest and parole data was analyzed, said Michael Negron, assistant director of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The data reflects the addresses of people with marijuana arrests or paroles, not where the incidents occurred. Additionally, an area either must have a poverty rate above 20%, more than 20% of households in the area must receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, also known as food stamps, or the area’s average unemployment rate over the past two years must have been at least 20% higher than the national average. “The data is intended to be objective while still keeping in mind where we think the impact of the war on drugs is,” Negron said. “That means the data really sets the map.” Here’s a look at the poverty and SNAP participation rates of some census tracts identified on the map: . . . Wheaton — Poverty rate of 9%, SNAP participation 8.2%, average annual marijuana-related arrest rate of 9.1 per 10,000 residents. This tract qualified as underserved based on its unemployment rate of 5.7%, which was more than 20% higher than the national average in 2017 and 2018. It is west of downtown Wheaton and includes a western chunk of Milton Township.)

Additionally, employers will qualify if the majority of their workforce meets those criteria. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/341090
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Having some minimum requirements combined with previous hiring data is a great place to start. However, employers should go beyond that, and focus on hiring the right culture fit. . .cultural fit is essential. An organizational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs that govern how people behave in a company. These shared values have a strong influence on the people in the organization, and dictate how they act and perform. Unfortunately, many hires struggle due to culture misfit, where they do not fit in with the team, they are not aligned with the values and goals pre-established, or their personality and workstyle is not compatible with what the company offers. A great way for employers to start seriously considering culture fit when hiring is to, firstly, define their organization’s culture, and make sure that it is visible and communicated regularly. Some employers do this by developing a strong online employer brand that can be viewed by potential job applicants. By announcing their organizational culture to potential applicants, it is more likely that employers will receive candidates who truly share their core values and principles and are able to smoothly assimilate.)

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement of her own Saturday: “I worked with John Kelly, and he was totally unequipped to handle the genius of our great President.” Trump pushed back on Kelly’s comments in a statement: “John Kelly never said that, he never said anything like that. — Nobody has given me a compelling reason to return to church – Brandon Showalter (DIERSEN: Government is nasty. Politics is nasty. I should write a book about those in Wheaton and in Glen Ellyn who are members of churches, who attend church services, and/or who give money to churches and who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout who talk and/or act like they are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. They send you to hell if your do not glorify and praise them, pander to them, serve as one of their operatives, serve as one of their dupes, and/or give them and/or their church lots of money. By their anti-religious conduct, they turn people away from religion.)

http://historynewsnetwork.org/article/173406
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In August 2019, the Economic Policy Institute reported that, in 2018, the average pay of CEOs at America’s 350 top firms hit $17.2 million―an increase, when adjusted for inflation, of 1,007.5 percent since 1978. By contrast, the typical worker’s wage, adjusted for inflation, grew by only 11.9 percent over this 40-year period. In 1965, the ratio of CEO-to-worker’s pay stood at 20-to-1; by 2018 (when CEOs received another hefty pay raise and workers received a 0.2 percent pay cut), it had reached 278-to-1. An AFL-CIO study, released in June 2019, had similar findings. Examining compensation at Standard & Poors 500 companies, the labor federation reported that average CEO pay in 2018 had increased by $5.2 million over the preceding 10 years. This resulted in an average CEO-to-worker pay ratio of 287-to-1. These figures, of course, are only averages, and at numerous major corporations, the economic gap between boss and worker is much greater. According to the AFL-CIO, the CEO-to-worker pay ratio at Walmart (America’s largest private employer) is 1,076 to 1, at Walt Disney Company 1,424-to-1, at McDonald’s 2,124-to-1, and at Gap 3,566-to-1. At 49 S&P 500 firms, noted an Institute for Policy Studies report, half the work force―that is, 3.7 million employees―received wages below the official U.S. poverty line for a family of four.)
