From what I see, the wealthier that your parents are, the better the jobs that you can get. My father worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant and never earned more than $50,000/year in today’s dollars, almost always worked second jobs (playing the piano, delivering eggs, working in an A&W) to pay the family’s bills, and died suddenly in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21. My mother never attended high school and did not work outside the home until after he died.
