(FROM THE ARTICLE: The United States has long been the world’s university. More than 1.6 million international students studied here last year, according to the 2024 SEVIS by the Numbers Report from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which tracks active F-1 visa holders. At the graduate level, many of them pay no tuition at all, receive annual stipends ranging from $25,000 to $65,000, and health benefits funded by U.S. universities and federal research grants. As someone who has run Health and Human Services departments in multiple states, I have seen how difficult it is for middle- and lower-income American families to send their children to college. Parents juggle extra jobs to afford tuition. Students borrow tens of thousands of dollars. Meanwhile, many foreign doctoral candidates enjoy full tuition waivers and monthly paychecks funded by American institutions. The imbalance is real. According to the 2023 National Science Foundation’s Survey of Earned Doctorates, approximately 90 percent of 215,000 international Ph.D. students in the United States receive full tuition support, salaries and health benefits. By comparison, only 84 percent of American students receive the same treatment. This has been a consistent trend. Data from 2019 to 2023 shows that temporary visa holders consistently have a slightly higher rate than U.S. citizens. Cornell University reports that 97 percent of its doctoral students are fully funded. The same pattern holds across major research universities. The result is that over a five year space more than a million non-U.S. students are effectively educated in highly sought after doctoral programs for free underwritten by American resources. No other developed nation does this at such scale. In most countries, foreign students pay higher tuition than domestic students. Scholarships for non-citizens are rare and usually tied to explicit national interests. America stands alone in offering open-ended funding that includes tuition, health coverage, and salaries to foreign students who may or may not remain here after graduation. Beyond financial considerations, prioritizing American doctoral students in funded positions would ensure that our undergraduates benefit from instructors who are fully fluent in English and deeply familiar with American cultural and educational norms. Many international Ph.D. students, face significant proficiency challenges that lead to communication barriers in the classroom, as evidenced by frequent complaints from U.S. undergraduates about difficulties understanding accents, explanations, and instructions. We have created a system that rewards global recruitment without requiring any justification that the position serves a defined American need. Even with justification our own citizens deserve the first opportunity. This situation doesn’t come without danger to national security.)

Dave kept me off audits of IRS, gave me bad job assignments, gave me unfair performance expectations, and gave me unfair performance appraisals. Dave delayed my promotions back up to GS-11 Step 10 and to GS-12 Step 5. Dave stopped me from being promoted to GS-13. But then, in late 1985, Dave went on extended sick leave. That enabled Bill to assign me to audits of IRS and promote me to GS-13 in 1986. But then, Dave came back. Dave forced Bill to retire in 1987. Dave threw me off audits of IRS, gave me a very bad job assignment, gave me very unfair performance expectations, gave me a very unfair performance appraisal, and ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance in 1989. Dave took the aforesaid adverse actions against me a) even though I had earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, and became a licensed CPA in 1981. Dave would not have taken the aforesaid adverse actions against me if had been a Democrat, minority, female, younger, or veteran. That enabled Bill to assign me to audits of IRS and promote me to GS-13 in 1986. But then, Dave came back. Dave forced Bill to retire in 1987. Dave threw me off audits of IRS, gave me a very bad job assignment, gave me very unfair performance expectations, gave me a very unfair performance appraisal, and ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance in 1989. Dave took the aforesaid adverse actions against me a) even though I had earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, and became a licensed CPA in 1981. Dave would not have taken the aforesaid adverse actions against me if had been a Democrat, minority, female, younger, or veteran. Dave would not have been able to take the aforesaid adverse actions against me if GAO had been unionized. GAO did not unionize until 2007.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: To bring our nation back to legitimate self reliance would require a total reformation of our society and the removal of the political left (including globalists) from the equation. Part of this long term reformation demands a reversal of open borders ideology and multiculturalism, which has ravaged the west. Migrants view our economy as a “global commons”, a wealth pool they are all entitled to access. They don’t see it is a privilege, they see it as a “right”. This is something that Trump does have the capacity to fix in the three years he has left in office, but he has a tendency to get sidetracked by minutia and bad advice. I have been warning since before Trump was re-elected that the economy was going to be his Achilles Heal. From past examples it seems that Trump delegates a lot of his policy ideas to advisers and among these advisers (he has dozens of them, official and unofficial) there are always people who give him suicidal arguments and terrible talking points. His lack of concrete planning for economic repair is putting conservatives on edge and handing immense social influence over to Democrats and woke activists. All they have to do is point at the lack of a clear strategy and suggest that they can do better (they can’t, but it won’t matter to voters living paycheck to paycheck). Trump has done some things right. His tariff policies are absolutely necessary to counter the wealth gap created by corporate globalism. The US has been turned into a consumer nation that continuously takes on debt in order to create ever depreciating wealth. That wealth is then siphoned from the public by international conglomerates, banks and foreign interests. We are being slowly drained of our lifeblood by a nest of vampires. Tariffs are one of the few measures at Trump’s disposal to unilaterally stop the bleeding and force corporations to bring the wealth and jobs back to the US. This is done through new domestic manufacturing and the end of general outsourcing using third world labor. Globalism is NOT the free market, it is the opposite. It is forced interdependency of nations and economies to the benefit of a tiny handful of ultra-wealthy elites. The tariff fight is direct and Trump’s reasons are evident. The average Joe wants more American jobs with higher salaries for the middle class instead of wallowing in low-wage retail and service sector hell. But Trump can’t say he’s fighting for this end result through tariffs and then turn around and let an army of migrants take middle class jobs. The President stumbled into multiple forehead slapping blunders this past week. He called for 600,000 Chinese students to prop up US colleges. He called for 50-year mortgages to offset plunging home ownership, and he argued that America doesn’t have the talent pool to fill jobs taken by H1B foreigners.)

In a phone interview Thursday, Mendrick said he’s been thinking about running for about two years, as he’s watched legislation like the state’s SAFE-T Act — which eliminated the cash bail system in Illinois — have what he sees as negative impacts on law and order. “It’s been very frustrating to me to see how many people (charged with a crime) are being let go, and the judges are saying they can’t do anything about it because of the law,” he said. “I’ve been in law enforcement 29 years — it will be 30 when I end my term as sheriff — and I’ve seen a lot of changes, but nothing as radical as the last four years.” Besides putting potentially dangerous people back on the streets, Mendrick said the law deprives defendants of opportunities to take part in his jail’s rehabilitation efforts, such as a gang tattoo removal program that’s received national acclaim. Mendrick first announced his intentions Thursday in an interview on WLS-AM’s Ray Stevens show and a Facebook post. He took aim at Gov. JB Pritzker in the latter, accusing the two-term Democrat of imposing policies that conflict with federal law and make communities less safe. “My family and I have decided that we want our State back,” he wrote. “We don’t like being fearful of crime that is randomly occurring now in our streets, homes and our retail stores due to soft on crime legislation. We don’t want to move out of Illinois like so much of our population. “Our culture is being eliminated by senseless laws created by our current government that persecutes cops and empowers criminals,” he added. “I’m here to stop the bleed.” Pritzker has not said whether he will run again in 2026. With a growing national profile as an outspoken opponent of President Donald Trump, his name also has been floated as a possible Democratic nominee for president in 2028. Press secretary Alex Gough said via email Thursday that nothing has changed regarding Pritzker’s reelection plans, and declined to comment on Mendrick’s announcement. Mendrick acknowledges that running for governor is a costly proposition, especially if he ultimately faces off with a self-funded billionaire like Pritzker.
