(FROM THE ARTICLE: Many in the left-leaning tech press were so outraged Damore would differ from their views they could not even fairly assess his views. He has been treated as a sexist, racist outcast who is anti-diversity. His views were mischaracterized or characterized in the worst possible light to dismiss him and his ideas. By daring to think differently, even by relying on studies and using defined words in the sociological and psychological lexicon, Damore was painted as an anti-diversity bigot. No matter how Damore had phrased his memo, it seems he would have offended someone and been fired. The only way to avoid it would be to keep his mouth shut and embrace the groupthink. Therein lies the problem for Google. Despite what Brown may have said about diversity of ideas at Google, it is clear no one can actually have diverse ideas at Google. Doing so might lead to offense and offense must lead to job termination. It creates a situation where one’s views, no matter how reasonable or how commonly shared they are, can be out of bounds if they differ with prevailing groupthink. Conservatives have every reason to be worried by Google’s actions. Google has become the default search engine for the world. It does not take a rocket scientist to know how easy it would be for Google to change its search algorithms to devalue what its employees believe is wrongthink. With Google in a near monopoly position for web searches, it has the ability to alienate conservative thought, Christian values and others to internet silos and ghettos that most would be unable to find. The most troubling part is that much of the political left would be okay with silencing because they see censorship of ideas they hate as a positive thing for the world. Many of the left seek to win culture wars not on the merits of arguments and ideas, but simply by punishing and silencing any who disagree.)

Neo-Nazi and white supremacist website The Daily Stormer had organized a series of large rally-weekend gatherings through the home-sharing site, Airbnb told NBC News. Concerned Airbnb users flagged the thread, leading the company to investigate potential violations of its user contract, which calls for unbiased hospitality. Airbnb said they decided to remove the far-right lodgers because they were “pursuing behavior on the platform that would be antithetical to the Airbnb Community Commitment.” Jason Kessler, organizer of the “Unite the Right” rally and self-described “pro-white” activist, said Airbnb’s blocking of certain users is “outrageous and should be grounds for a lawsuit.” Clay Hansen, the executive director of the nonpartisan Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression in Charlottesville, said Airbnb’s choice to terminate accounts does not violate the First Amendment. “I would say that while Airbnb’s actions wouldn’t necessarily comport with general free speech principles, they are a private company and are entitled to enact and enforce their terms of service as they see fit,” Hansen told NBC News. (FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump took office with a promise to drain the swamp, but the federal agency that manages the government’s two million civilian employees is making it harder to do that. Under a new policy, the Office of Personnel Management recently stopped reporting data on employees terminated for wrongdoing or poor performance. This information is critical because the data inform the public about incompetent and, in some cases, corrupt government employees. Without it, systematic government wrongdoing and poor performance may go unnoticed and unreformed. The data provide information on separations, which, in bureaucratic language, is when a federal employee stops working for the government. OPM assigns a cause to each separation, choosing from a list of 12 different categories—such as death or a transfer—and releases these details annually, along with information on employees’ age, rank, pay, and other characteristics. That’s where the latest policy change comes into effect. A termination for discipline or poor performance is coded as “SI, Termination or Removal (Discipline/Performance).” But that information was not included in OPM’s 2016 separations data. Every other separations category, in alphabetical order from “SA, Transfer Out” to “SL, Other Separation,” was retained in the 2016 dataset.)
