members of the nine-person City Council have been consistent in their
oppositions to recreational marijuana. They are Patty Gustin, Kevin Coyne and
Paul Hinterlong. On the other side, Judy Brodhead, Benny White and Mayor Steve
Chirico have shown support for allowing recreational marijuana retail sales.
The remaining three council members, Patrick Kelly, John Krummen and Theresa
Sullivan, are somewhere in the middle and likely will ultimately decide whether
Naperville will allow recreational marijuana dispensaries. . .School districts
203 and 204 sent letters to the city noting their reservations about Illinois’
new marijuana law, which takes effect Jan. 1. Sales will be legal only to
people 21 and older. “The District 203 Board of Education, speaking on behalf
of the many students, parents, district staff and administrators and community,
has serious concerns about the impact of recreational marijuana sales on the
teens in our school district. We urge the City Council to consider the impact
of its actions on the teens in our community,” District 203′s letter said.
The School District 204 Board of Education raised similar concerns. “While it
will remain illegal for our students to purchase recreational marijuana, we
have concerns that the increased availability in our community may lead to
potential issues at school,” the District 204′s letter says. “With easier
access to recreational marijuana in our community, what will be the long-term
cognitive impact on our youth who use the drug?” North Central College
also sent a letter, which did not so much take a stance on the issue but
pointed out that “because marijuana remains illegal under federal law and
federal financial assistance remains important to the College and our students,
marijuana will continue to be banned on our campus.”)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The August Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) monthly
meeting is this evening at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream. The social hour
starts at 6:00 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM. SEE: http://dupagegop.org/calendar-3/
I will be signing in as a candidate. I am a candidate to be
appointed to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy. The other six Republican
candidates are Edward Ahern, Jeffery Antonelli, Angela Blatner, Nancy Harding,
Mark Kmeicik, and Robert McNeily.
Hopefully, all of the aforesaid seven candidates will a) attend
meeting, b) announce their candidacies, c) and seek the support of the eighteen
Republican Precinct Committeemen who represent Wheaton’s West District. Those
eighteen Precinct Committeemen are Joseph Caruso, Dave Diersen, Thomas Elsner,
Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski,
Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor McCarthy, Robert McNeily,
Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.
Hopefully, MTRCC will gather relevant information about the
aforesaid seven candidates, provide that information to the aforesaid eighteen
Precinct Committeemen, and host a candidate forum. The goal of providing
information on the candidates and hosting a candidate forum is to help the
aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen recommend to Wheaton’s City Council
the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the Wheaton West District
City Council vacancy.
In my opinion, the following information about all 10 candidates
should be disclosed: How long they have lived in Wheaton, how long they have
lived in Wheaton’s West District, their work experience, their education, their
professional certifications and licenses, their memberships in professional
associations, why they want to be appointed to fill the vacancy, what they
believe the three most important issues are that Wheaton needs to address in
the next 2 years and how those issues those issues should be addressed, their
political affiliation and activities, their civic activities, if they would
vote for or against banning the sale of pot in Wheaton, what their position is
on Wheaton’s Roosevelt Road corridor, if they would vote for or against
requiring employers in Wheaton to use E-Verify, and what they have done that
demonstrates they can carry out typical city council functions. In my opinion,
Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District should have the
above information.
At Wheaton’s City Council meeting on Monday, August 19, 2019, its
members will go into executive session to deliberate on the 10 candidates who
have applied. Because, in that session, they will be reviewing the documents
that the 10 candidates have submitted, Wheaton has denied my FOIA request for
those documents.
According to MTRCC’s bylaws (http://www.miltongop.org/about-mtrcc/by-laws),
“When a position within Milton Township is declared vacant, the MTRCC
shall meet within forty (40) days of the declaration of vacancy to recommend an
individual to fill such vacancy. The recommendation shall be decided at a
convention of the Organization by a majority vote of the Organization through a
written ballot.” It would be great if MTRCC would host a candidate forum
for the aforesaid seven Republican candidates.” I urge MTRCC to do the
aforesaid concerning Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy.
Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders
routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s
August 14 meeting and a candidate forum if one is held: a) Wheaton’s mayor and
City Council members, b) 6th Congressional District candidates Jeanne Ives and
Evelyn Sanguinetti; c) DuPage County Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and
Babette Holder; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County
officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni,
Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen,
Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al
Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim
Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail
Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino,
and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard;
h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including
Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.
It will be extremely interesting to see which of the seven
candidates are endorsed by which of the aforesaid candidates, elected
officials, and party leaders, and especially which candidates Ives and Sanguinetti
might endorse because they both have served on Wheaton’s City Council.
Further, I will be asking a) Susan Fitch, Chris Zaruba, and other
Wheaton City Council members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s
attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton and b) Grant
Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Bob Larsen, Jim Zay, and other DuPage County Board
members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions
being taken to ban the sale of pot in DuPage County’s unincorporated areas.
Further, I will be asking the meeting’s attendees to join me, Bob
Cherry, Dick Furstenau, B.J. Singer, and Tim Whelan in urging DuPage County,
Wheaton, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Lombard, Downers Grove, Naperville,
Warrenville, West Chicago, and the rest of the 38 municipalities in DuPage
County to ban the sale of pot.
Further, I will be asking the DuPage County Republican Central
Committee, its Chairman Marty Keller, MTRCC, and the other eight Republican township
party organizations in DuPage County to urge DuPage County and the 38
municipalities in DuPage County to ban the sale of pot. – Dave Diersen http://www.gopillinois.com

The feedback was voluminous and passionate. Thirty-eight people wrote to say we
should stop endorsing candidates in various city, county, state and federal
races and 35 said we should continue. A common theme in most of the responses
was an appreciation for our diligence in vetting the candidates through
questionnaires, background checks and interviews. They wanted the information
to help them decide on whom should get their vote. We agree the most important
part of what we do — and we do it better than most — is going in-depth with the
candidates on the issues. Getting specific answers to and solutions for some of
our most critical issues, like water quality and the environment, affordable
and attainable housing, the mental health and opioid crisis, how to improve
education and build new schools, mean the most to people. That same information
also was vital for us in endorsing candidates.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— AS THE DEMOCRAT PARTY’S STRANGLEHOLD ON ILLINOIS, ON COOK COUNTY, AND ON
CHICAGO TIGHTENS: Meet the people working to kick Chicago out of Illinois –
Cindy Dampier (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the Democrats who run Illinois, Cook
County, and Chicago make it clear that they want each and every individual,
organization, and company that is a Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative,
patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owner, German
American, draft avoider, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for
a long time TO LEAVE ILLINOIS.) https://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/ct-life-illinois-state-secession-movement-0801-20190801-iesnu74ogvfjxfk35sn72lq7ya-story.html (FROM THE ARTICLE: Over
the past two years, the movement to divide the state of Illinois into two
states — Cook County in one, the other 101 counties in the other — has been
gaining support. In February, as Gov. J.B. Pritzker was pursuing an agenda for
Illinois that included new tax and abortion policies, Halbrook refiled a
resolution in the state legislature, HR 101, in which he and six co-sponsors
asked the U.S. Congress to recognize Chicago as the 51st state. “I hear it a
lot from my constituents, that we need to be separate from Chicago,” Halbrook
says. “I thought yep, this is what we need to do.” The resolution, which could
be dismissed as simple political maneuvering — plays big at home, but has scant
chance of seeing daylight in the legislature — is also backed by several
grassroots groups agitating for separation. One of them, Illinois Separation,
founded by Collin Cliburn, of Athens, has 24,000 followers on Facebook, and
growing. Cliburn is also holding events at venues from wineries and gun shops
to community centers around the state through August and September to
capitalize on the cause’s momentum.)

has been explaining to families for the past two years that if they legally
transferred the guardianship of their college-bound children to a friend or
family member, the teens would be considered independent for the purposes of
financial aid. That means they wouldn’t have to declare their parents’ income
or assets, making it possible for them to collect state, federal and college
scholarships reserved for students from poor families. The strategy was the
topic of a Page One article Tuesday in The Wall Street Journal. Ms. Georgieva

certifications, and/or more job-related professional licenses. GAO was under
tremendous pressure from Democrat politicians to hire, to retain, and to
promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females.) https://www.chicagobusiness.com/opinion/law-banning-salary-history-will-be-life-changing-workers (FROM THE ARTICLE:
Questions about salary history are extremely common. A recent survey showed
that of 15,000 people currently evaluating job offers, 43 percent had been
asked for salary history during the interview process. Imagine the cumulative
effects of being asked about previous wages when considering a new job over the
course of a career. Salary history questions are a major contributing factor in
both racial and gender wage gaps. And this is exacerbated for women of color,
who, because of the realities of intersectionality, often face both. Black
women working in the U.S. make just 61 cents to a white man’s dollar. For
Native American women, it’s 58 cents. For Latinas, 53 cents. And when a
potential employer asks for past wages, it allows that pay inequity to
continue, impacting future wages and earning potential. Over a career, a woman
of color can lose over $1 million to the wage gap, further widening the wealth
gap. This loss of income has an impact on opportunities afforded to their
families, support for their communities and the economy at large.)
