HERALD EXTRA
— OCTOBER 3, 2017 FLASHBACK: Your local newspaper: The real deal – JIM ZACHARY (DIERSEN: What do you say to activists, to candidates, to campaign managers, to elected officials, to party leaders, to major donors, and to political consultants in Illinois who state that they are conservative and/or Republican, but who fail/refuse to keep diersen@aol.com on their press advisory and press release lists? I have served as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. Since 2004, I have sent out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails each and every morning, and since 2015, each and every evening too. Those emails have included links to almost 285,600 articles and information on many upcoming Republican events. What do you say to those who “punish” me by not sending me their press advisories and press releases a) because I refuse to serve as one or their operatives or dupes, b) because I refuse to carry out their backlist orders, c) because I have included links in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails to articles that they do not like, d) because I have failed/refused to give them money, e) because they blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems, f) because I am “too conservative,” g) because they want to curry favor with my competitors, Rich Miller, and/or the rest of the Democrat news media in Illinois, and/or h) because they focus on destroying individuals like me, organizations like TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, companies, and governments that they cannot manipulate/dominate? They do not want me a) to know about or promote their public events and other public activities, b) to attend their events, and c) to report on their public events and other activities. They do not want anyone to first learn of anything by reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They want you to only know what they want you to know. They paint me as being illegitimate if not worse things a) because I sent out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails free of charge, b) because the emails do not contain any advertising, c) because no one pays me for what I do as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor, d) because I do not have a college degree in journalism, and/or e) because I state that I am conservative and Republican. They proudly paint themselves as being anti-Diersen. They do not return my phone calls. They read my emails for “opposition research.” Should I publish a list of the aforesaid punishers? Some of them, if not many of them, talk and act like they want me to do that.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a world of fake news spread on social media and attacks on the media from people in power, it is important for the public to know the difference between legitimate reporting by credible sources and all the noise posing as “the media.” Here are some reasons your local newspaper is the most trustworthy source for news and information: — Newspaper newsrooms are staffed with real people — people you know — reporters, photographers, editors — gathering the news, conducting interviews, covering meetings, attending events, writing, editing, fact-checking and making sure every day you can trust what you read. — Newspapers rely on recognizable sources. Quotes in the articles you read are attributed to real people and can be easily verified. — Newspapers work hard to stay away from single source reporting, giving readers context and balance. — Newspaper websites have legitimate URLs ending in .com or .org extensions, listing contact information, the names of staff members and the media organization’s leadership team on the website. — Newspapers correct mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes at times, but there is a big difference between an error and intentionally and knowingly publishing a false report because of some political or social agenda. Spurious websites, blogs and social media do not correct errors. They thrive on them. In the United States newspapers have a long and important legacy of holding the powerful accountable, defending the First Amendment and advocating for government transparency. Democracy is protected when the newspaper provides checks and balances as the Fourth Estate of government from city hall to the courthouse to the statehouse to the White House. Newspapers are committed to the neighborhoods, cities, counties, states and coverage areas they serve. Straightforward news reporting and thought-provoking commentary give a voice to the voiceless and empower the powerless. Newspapers hold government accountable because at our very core we believe that government belongs to the governed and not to the governing. Don’t be embarrassed because you shared some sensational, agenda-driven report on social media only to find out it is totally fake. Get your news where real news has always been found: Your local newspaper, the real deal.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-wilhelm-trump-anniversary-scream-sky-1030-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On n Nov. 8, it’s anticipated that thousands of Americans in at least nine cities will take to the streets to “scream helplessly at the sky.” You can probably guess the reason: It’s to mark the one-year anniversary of the election of Donald Trump as president. Can you believe it’s almost been a year since the election? Time flies when everyone seems to be losing their minds! Here’s the good news: If you’re reading this, you’re still alive. The stock market seems downright giddy — knock on wood, at least for now — and despite our president’s occasionally baffling and sometimes alarming tweets, our country is apparently still free enough for people to get on Facebook and organize cross-country protests that involve shouting at clouds.)
— Make it worth their time Young professionals need to follow 3 rules to impress executives – Mary Rezek (DIERSEN: Non-veteran White males who are seeking a job with the federal government should be advised that with only rare exceptions, your career will be wasted and you will be gotten rid of if you do not make GS-13 (currently $94,610) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $111,801) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $131,508) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $161,900) by age 40. To impress your Democrat supervisors and your Democrat superiors, you need to impress them that a) you can and will help them get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and b) that can and will serve as their operative or dupe.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Republicans, facing their first real contested primary in decades, have worked to distance themselves from the governor’s problems. The two other Republican candidates, State Senator Patrick O’Malley and Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood, accused Jim Ryan of knowing about the bribery scheme but refusing to use his power as attorney general to stop it. The attorney general maintains that it would have been irresponsible for him to get involved in a federal investigation. Recent polls have shown Jim Ryan with about 50 percent of the vote. . .Among the Republican candidates, Ms. Wood ran advertisements calling Mr. Ryan and Mr. O’Malley “too extreme” because they oppose abortion even in cases of rape and incest. Ms. Wood is also courting Democrats and liberal groups to cross over to the Republican primary and vote for her.)
