NBC5
— Fate of Gun Reform Bill Unclear as Legislature Convenes – Mary Ann Ahern (DIERSEN: Are you a conservative, that is, are you part of the “they” that Bill Brady talks about? Since at least the 1970s, those who dominate the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) have wanted to banish conservatives from the IRP.)
https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/fate-of-gun-reform-legislation-unclear-as-legislature-reconvenes-479200613.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ives has returned to Springfield, and she isn’t sure how the governor will achieve his stated goals of a balanced budget and pension reform. “People are very skeptical on the budget,” she said. “First of all, politically speaking I think House Speaker Mike Madigan wants to make sure Rauner doesn’t have any success, but Rauner needs success if he’s going to do anything in November to get elected.” Even though Ives has been publicly critical of the governor, GOP Leader Bill Brady believes the representative and her supporters will be in Rauner’s corner by the time the election rolls around. “They know. They’re smart. They’re activists,” he said. “They know staying home is a vote for JB Pritzker and Mike Madigan and I believe they’re smart enough to know that.”)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Keep women in the workforce and men win too – EMILIA DIMENCO (DIERSEN: Dimenco should write an article about the preference that the federal government gives its female employees who are Democrats, and especially the preference it gives those who are minority and/or younger. To give them preference, the federal government wastes the careers of and gets rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who do not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)

EFFINGHAM DAILY NEWS
— OUTSTANDING: Effingham County considers opposition to state gun legislation Resolution would make county a ‘sanctuary’ for gun owners – Graham Milldrum (DIERSEN: In your county, in your township/ward, and in your municipality, who is leading similar efforts? The many adverse actions that Democrats and RINOs have taken in Illinois ever-increasingly make it clear that sanctuaries are needed for those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, non-poor, gun owners, German American, and those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.effinghamdailynews.com/news/local_news/effingham-county-considers-opposition-to-state-gun-legislation/article_03988c5d-35ec-5984-a122-38f461ea634a.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Effingham County Board is considering a resolution opposing recent proposals in the state legislature for gun control measures. The resolution started as a suggestion by local firearms owners and the businesses that cater to them, said Effingham County Board member David Campbell. He modeled the legislation on a similar resolution passed by the Iroquois County Board on March 13. Campbell consulted with Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler, who added a “sanctuary county” section, which attracted the most attention during legislative committee meeting on Monday. Kibler explained the goal is to protect those people affected by future state legislation by prohibiting the county from enforcing “unconstitutional actions.” He drew a parallel with actions in other fields. “If you can be a sanctuary county for undocumented immigrants, why can’t you be one for firearms?” Kibler said. He explained that the section, like the rest of the resolution, is largely symbolic.)

— Tammy Duckworth Just Gave Birth, But She Can’t Take Maternity Leave She also can’t bring her newborn onto the floor of the Senate to breastfeed. She and other female lawmakers are fighting to change the rules for moms here and abroad. – AMY MERRICK (DIERSEN: Merrick should write an article about the preference that the federal government gives its female employees who are Democrats, and especially the preference it gives those who are minority and/or younger. CHICAGO ARGUS
— Rauner, Trump have one thing in common, both play scapegoat game – Gregory Tejeda (DIERSEN: What do you think of scapegoaters? My critics/opponents are scapegoaters supreme. They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems. They blame me for all the losses that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000. They blame me for all the problems that my Democrat superiors have had hiring and retaining young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females a) at GAO since 1980, b) at IRS since 1971, and c) at USPS since 1966. Of course, all the defendants in all the lawsuits that I have filed have blamed me for all their problems ever since I sued them.)

— Donald Trump proclaims ‘Second Chance Month’ for prisoners to ‘reach God-given potential’ – Rachel Cruz (DIERSEN: What chances have you been given? My Democrat superiors at USPS 1966-1969, IRS 1971-1980, and GAO 1980-1997 gave me many chances to become a Democrat. My critics/opponents in TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Milton Township Republican Central Committee, Illinois Center Right Coalition, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter, etc. gave me many chances to become one of their operatives or one of their dupes.)

DAILY CALLER
— Students Pursuing Risky Degrees Draw More Than $25 Billion In Yearly Federal Loans – ANDREW KERR (DIERSEN: Did you pursue degrees that were risky, that is, degrees that do not qualify you for good-paying jobs? I earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970 when I was 21, an MBA from Loyola in 1976, a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997.)
http://dailycaller.com/2018/04/09/student-loan-default-by-major/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Noël Flynn is spending more than 80 percent of her income to pay back tens of thousands of dollars in debt for her Art Therapy degree. In 2016 alone, the Department of Education loaned $25.9 billion to students who, like Flynn, chose degrees under the umbrella of the liberal arts and humanities, an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation found. A significant portion of those students are unlikely to have the means to pay back their debt after graduating. “I find myself struggling financially, and the biggest reason why is student loans,” said Flynn, 23, who says she was told the loans “wouldn’t be overwhelming” once she graduated. Most federal student loan programs do not require a credit check, nor do they require a cosigner. Rather, the loans are backed by nothing more than the borrower’s future earnings with a college degree, but the kind of degree isn’t a consideration in the loan process.)

— How I kicked my news addiction – Jeff Stibel (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois. They want to be everyone’s one and only source for government and political news and commentary. That is why they, their operatives, and their dupes work so hard to destroy me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/columnist/2018/04/10/how-kicked-my-news-addiction/480157002/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: My thinking was pretty simple: News is inherently temporary and seems like it is becoming increasingly hollow. Between print, radio, television and digital, news is now recycled repeatedly. A breaking story can be noteworthy, but by the end of a news cycle, you can’t help but feel overwhelmed by meaningless dribble. I figured there was a better use of my time. And if something important happened, I figured the news would find me. Since Thanksgiving, all of my news has come from friends, colleagues and family. My wife, Cheryl, told me about fires and mudslides in Los Angeles, my neighbor Howard told me about political misdeeds, my chief financial officer informed me of stock market ups and downs, my friend Pete alerted me to a TMZ segment that featured me as the reincarnation of an arguably better-looking dead serial killer.)

— Retirement obstacles to overcome? Here’s how to live comfortably later in life – Robert Powell (DIERSEN: Sadly, virtually all the operatives and all the dupes who work for my critics/opponents have financial problems. I doubt that my critics/opponents pay them more than $15/hour to demonize me, to denigrate me, and to condemn me. They hint/imply/argue/shout that I “live comfortably later in life” a) because I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I have always been privileged, b) because I have had good health, c) because I avoided the draft, d) because the federal government grossly overpaid me, e) because I married someone who had income and savings, f) because we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents, g) because my federal pension and retirement benefits are much too generous, h) because I do not give money to a church, i) etc.) https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/columnist/powell/2018/04/04/retirement-obstacles-heres-how-live-comfortably-later-life/454201002/

DENVER POST
— Court: Women can’t be paid less than men based on past wages – AP (DIERSEN: If I had not been denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. GAO, I would have provided a jury with many examples in which GAO paid its employees who were minority and/or female not only more for the same work, but more for lesser work, including one example in which GAO paid one of my subordinates who was a minority, a female, and a veteran more than it paid me. She had less job-related work experience, less job-related education, no professional certifications, and no professional licenses. I had almost 18 years experience working for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325; almost 9 years experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880; three job-related master’s degrees; six job-related professional certifications, and a job-related professional license.)

WMOT
— Are Professional Certifications Worth Your Time and Money? – KATIE MORITZ (DIERSEN: Of course, overwhelmingly, according to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, the answer is NO! My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes were beyond furious a) in 1979, when I was 30 years old, when I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt, b) in 1981, when I passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt, c) in 1981, when I became a licensed CPA, d) in 1990, when I became a Certified Fraud Examiner, e) in 1994, when I became a Certified Government Financial Manager, f) in 1996, when I became a Certified Financial Services Auditor, and g) in 1997, when I became a Forensic Accountant. The aforesaid frustrates efforts by my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes to demonize me, to denigrate me, and to condemn me as being stupid, lazy, and even worse things.)

If I had not been denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v.

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Crain’s Chicago Business a) sides with its advertisers who want cheap labor and b) sides with Democrats who want future Democrats. Overwhelmingly, immigrants have made it clear that if/when they become citizens, they will help the Democrats get rid of Republicans, and especially Republicans who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.

— In Illinois, we need all the watchdogs we can get – ANDY SHAW (DIERSEN: GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails draw attention to the work that watchdogs do. I worked for a watchdog, that is, for GAO, for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325. Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes dismiss, belittle, badmouth, demonize, denigrate, and condemn that. I should write a book about my nasty, troubled, failed, vicious critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who have a) little or no government or political experience, b) little or no relevant education, and/or c) few or no relevant professional certifications or licenses.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180406/ISSUE07/180409942/illinois-needs-government-oversight
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois has more separate units of government than any other state, and too many, like Riverdale’s library, have overseers who would rather hunker down in their bunkers than embrace tax-saving mergers. The job of journalists and watchdogs is to hold government officials and politicians accountable. But with fewer and fewer professional reporters on the case, as print and broadcast media keep shedding staff to cut costs—i.e., Tribune cutbacks—public officials face less and less scrutiny, emboldening them to misbehave with impunity, laws and taxpayers be damned. Riverdale is in a “news desert,” an out-of-the-way place that gets little or no attention from mainstream media unless a murder or riot attracts TV trucks. Wonky issues like a library controversy? Fuggedaboutit! The BGA’s not insulated from these forces. We have limited resources and tend to deploy them on investigations with broad scope and impact. It took Riverdale activists three tries over several months to get us to realize they, too, suffered from government abuse with implications far beyond their town. It’s good they persisted, and the Riverdale library’s transgressions should be investigated by the Illinois attorney general. But sadly, there aren’t enough watchdogs left to shine a light on every Riverdale and hold all their officials accountable, and that should alarm every taxpayer in Illinois.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican candidates are getting ready for this year’s Illinois general election in November. Several candidates met with other party leaders at today’s Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by the Henry County Republicans. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner addressed many GOP supporters at the event. As he runs for re-election, he says he will continue to stand by education reform. . .On Saturday, newly-minted competitor, Democrat Sean Casten, benefited from the lengthy exposure in front of a captivated crowd. When Casten was introduced, he got a standing ovation. “It’s too bad that Peter Roskam is not here today,” Casten said at the forum. “Because I would defy anyone to stand in this room and not be inspired by all of these impassioned young people, their families, and their supporters.” Why wasn’t he there? “Unfortunately Representative Roskam had previous commitments, which we communicated to the student who extended the invitation on the day that he emailed our office,” Roskam spokeswoman Veronica Vera said in an emailed response. “Representative Roskam believes this is an important issue and our office is looking at alternatives to have students from the district meet with the Representative for a productive conversation on this issue.” Roskam’s office said he met with Glenbard North High School students after the Parkland shooting for about an hour.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Another weekend in the Illinois 6th congressional district, where U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) is fighting to keep his seat, meant another packed town hall. This time, school violence was the issue at the forum organized by high school students. Inside of a Glen Ellyn church with a capacity to hold 600, it was standing room only, according to organizers. The large turnout isn’t new for this district. And like so many other town halls held in the 6th over the past year, one thing remained consistent: Roskam was a no-show. Since President Donald Trump’s 2016 election, the congressman has been dogged by activists to meet at a town hall-style setting to take questions.)

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps say “As elections near, many older, educated, white voters shift away from Trump’s party.” To “shift away from Trump’s party” is to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, further erosion of the Second Amendment, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and even worse things.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/09/as-elections-near-many-older-educated-white-voters-shift-away-from-trumps-party.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nationwide, whites over the age of 60 with college degrees now favor Democrats over Republicans for Congress by a 2-point margin, according to Reuters/Ipsos opinion polling during the first three months of the year. During the same period in 2016, that same group favored Republicans for Congress by 10 percentage points. The 12-point swing is one of the largest shifts in support toward Democrats that the Reuters/Ipsos poll has measured over the past two years. If that trend continues, Republicans will struggle to keep control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, in the November elections, potentially dooming President Trump’s legislative agenda. The real core for the Republicans is white, older white, and if they’re losing ground there, they’re going to have a tsunami, said Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist who closely tracks political races. If that continues to November, they’re toast.)

https://www.denverpost.com/2018/04/06/as-vultures-circle-the-denver-post-must-be-saved/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: At The Denver Post on Monday, more than two dozen reporters, editors, photographers, videographers, page designers, digital producers and opinion staff will walk out the door. Our marching orders are to cut a full 30 by the start of July. These heartbreaking instructions raise the question: Does this cut, which follows so many in recent years that our ranks have shriveled from more than 250 to fewer than 100 today, represent the beginning of the end for the Voice of the Rocky Mountain Empire? The cuts, backed by our owner, the New York City hedge fund Alden Global Capital, also are a mystery, if you look at them from the point of view of those of us intent on running a serious news operation befitting the city that bears our name. Media experts locally and nationally question why our future looks so bleak, as many newspapers still enjoy double-digit profits and our management reported solid profits as recently as last year. We call for action. Consider this editorial and this Sunday’s Perspective offerings a plea to Alden — owner of Digital First Media, one of the largest newspaper chains in the country — to rethink its business strategy across all its newspaper holdings. Consider this also a signal to our community and civic leaders that they ought to demand better. Denver deserves a newspaper owner who supports its newsroom. If Alden isn’t willing to do good journalism here, it should sell The Post to owners who will. A flagship local newspaper like The Post plays a critically important role in its city and state: It provides a public record of the good and the bad, serves as a watchdog against public and private corruption, offers a free marketplace of ideas and stands as a lighthouse reflective and protective of — and accountable to — a community’s values and goals. A news organization like ours ought to be seen, especially by our owner, as a necessary public institution vital to the very maintenance of our grand democratic experiment.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— WILL THE GOV SUCCEED IN PULLING THE ILGOP FURTHER LEFT? STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS NEXT TEST
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2018/04/will-the-gov-succeed-in-pulling-the-ilgop-further-left-state-central-committee-elections-next-test.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican voters split 51 to 49 percent between a liberal Republican incumbent governor and a conservative state representative in the March 20th primary. The vote revealed a dramatic contrast between the party’s wings. In the wake of a party-dividing primary that is still a sore spot among those voters committed to the conservative party platform, another test of the party’s future will be April 18th. That’s when county precinct committeemen gather to pick who will represent them on the State Central Committee, party activists and officials are saying. Demetra Demonte, Illinois’ Republican National Committeewoman and co-chair of the Trump Illinois campaign, told Illinois Review Saturday that the vote will be very important. She did not personally endorse in the 2018 IL GOP gubernatorial primary. “These last few months have been a time of bitter primary battles. The primary is over and we have selected our candidates. This should be a time for reconciliation – bringing together all sides so we can be victorious in November,” Demonte said. “Sadly, it is my understanding there is an effort to thwart conservatives who are running for re-election on the State Central Committee. This effort is counterproductive and will most assuredly backfire in November. If we are to be victorious in November we will need our army of conservative activists…and most of all our conservative voters. How else can we defeat the juggernaut of the Democrat machine?” But the wounds are deep – and for many, irreparable. Governor Rauner won by running ad after ad focused on what amounted to lies about his challenger, Jeanne Ives. Rauner misled uninformed voters to believe Ives was a Madigan co-hort, when Ives has been one of the House’s most vocal opponents to the Speaker. That type of win should never be rewarded, Republicans are saying. Many are discouraged, insulted and wounded. They’re planning to stay at home in November – something that could be devastating for down-ticket Republicans. Illinois Tea Party leader Denise Cattoni told Illinois Review that she’s concerned about the state and its future if conservatives disengage from voting in the fall. But, as a vocal supporter of Jeanne Ives in the gubernatorial primary, she understands the discouragement many conservatives are expressing. She publicly shared her concerns on her Facebook page Friday in a post addressing precinct committeemen. “The ILGOP is trying to purge all conservatives from the State Central Committee. When you attend the April 18th meeting, all of the conservative SCC Chairmen will have a RHINO opponent (after the primary). Stand for your principles! Stand for the ILGOP Platform, Cattoni wrote. “Gov. Rauner has now made it perfectly clear that Conservatives are NOT invited into the IL Republican party, guaranteeing that he will lose to Pritzker.” Cattoni said that of the 90 Tea Party groups around the state going back to 2008, over half of the leadership has moved out of state, having read the political handwriting on the wall. As a movement leader focused on fiscal issues, she supported Bruce Rauner in his 2014 bid. Since then, she’s gotten more involved in Republican Party circles, which has led her to be especially concerned about the two congressional districts where conservative state central committeemen are currently serving, but who backed Jeanne Ives in this year’s gubernatorial primary. State Central Committeeman John McGlasson in the 16th CD and Bob Winchester in the 15th CD are both being challenged by elected state lawmakers – likely put up by Rauner’s people, she says. “Why would State Rep Tom Demmer and Senator Chapin Rose be given MORE power by the ILGOP??” Cattoni wrote. “Rauner’s PAYBACK to conservatives. You are not welcome in the party.” Illinois Review asked McGlasson his thoughts about the challenge he’s facing. He not only backed Jeanne Ives in the gubernatorial primary, he backed challenger James Marter over incumbent Congressman Adam Kinzinger in the 16th CD. The Rauner camp is reaching out to precinct committeemen, urging them to support State Rep. Tom Demmer over McGlasson. State Representative David Weller is circulating a letter among other members, opposing McGlasson. Four that McGlasson knows of did not sign Welter’s letter. McGlasson says he’s committed to the Illinois Republican Party platform as his principle base. He recalls vividly the battle waged at the 2016 IL GOP State Convention over the platform changes Rauner people – including former Party Chairman Pat Brady and SCC member Ryan Higgins – tried to make on family issues. “I worked very hard, along with many others, to bring the platform to the floor at the last convention,” McGlasson told Illinois Review. “And I will continue to fight for conservative values in future platforms. One of the most important duties of state central committee members is the appointment of committee members for the convention. I am very proud of those I appointed last time and the battles they waged.” Stan Bond, SCC member from the 14th CD, although conservative as well, is running unopposed in the SCC race. “You may recall I was one of the committed group who worked through the night to ensure the party platform wasn’t revised per Pat Brady and the chosen platform committee,” Bond told IR. “It was an historic effort that dramatized for all the importance our base places on family values. “I would like to strengthen and clarify our platform on some issues but remain proud of it as written. I strongly believe party support should be focused on candidates who support the platform. That’s why we have a platform,” he said. The platform is key to the conservative majority in the Illinois Republican Party. The vote at that convention on maintaining traditional family values in the party platform was supported in a stand seven-to-one vote – a fact Rauner and his staff either purposely overlook or can’t believe is that important to Republican voters. Demonte, who represents the state to the RNC, stands with the party’s conservatives. While the nation pulls to the right with President Donald Trump at the helm, the Illinois Republican Party is being dragged to the left at the insistence of Governor Rauner and his well-paid campaign staff. “As your Illinois’ Republican National Committeewoman, and as a loyal Republican, I plan to vote for our entire Republican slate in November,” Demonte said. “But I want to assure the party faithful that I remain committed to the conservative principles lined out in the Illinois Republican Party platform, as well as continue to actively engage and push policy at the national level on the Republican National Committee that represents the values of our grassroots.”)

Rauner’s surrogates have made and continue to make it clear that they want Ives and other conservatives out of the party so there’s no need for perfunctory and disingenuous outreach. He and his surrogates are who Republicans chose to lead them. He is the nominee. And Ives wishes him good luck in the general.)

— Department of Homeland Security to establish monitoring system that tracks journalists in live time – Teri Webster
https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/04/07/department-of-homeland-security-to-establish-monitoring-system-that-tracks-journalists-in-live-time
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Department of Homeland Security plans to create a “Media Monitoring” system to track the reports and “sentiments” of journalists, bloggers and social media stars. A computer dashboard for the database will allow the DHS to monitor journalists in “live time” by name, topics covered and their location, according to specifications for the project. A “request for information” on FedBizOpps.gov states that the intelligence agency wants to hire a contractor to identify any and all media coverage related to the Department of Homeland Security — or any particular event. Companies interested in the project are being asked to submit their qualifications and other information. The revelation comes amid a heated national debate about gun laws, concerns about “fake news,” and questions about how foreign interests used social media to manipulate U.S. elections and policy. Who will be monitored? Media to be monitored and tracked includes print, online, broadcast, cable, radio, local sources, national/international outlets, traditional news sources, trade and industry publications, and social media “influencers,” according to the project specifications. The scope of sources to be tracked spans 290,000 global news sources in more than 100 languages. Information gathered will include contact details and “any other information that could be relevant, including publications this influencer writes for, and an overview of the previous coverage published by the influencer.” Specifications indicate the contractor must have the ability to analyze media coverage in terms of “content, volume, sentiment, geographical spread, top publications, media channels, reach, top posters, momentum and circulation.” Further, the database will be searchable by location, beat and media type, as well as keywords and concepts. What have free press advocates said? Forbes contributor Michelle Fabio called the move “today’s installment of ‘I’m Not Terrified, You Are.’” The agency’s request for information is “enough to cause nightmares of constitutional proportions, particularly as the freedom of the press is under attack worldwide,” she wrote. The column was tweeted by the Committee to Protect Journalists, an independent, non-profit group concerned with protecting freedom of the press worldwide. The DHS was quick to quash what it called conspiracy theories about the database. DHS’s press secretary wrote on Twitter that concerns about the database are coming from “tin foil hat wearing, black helicopter conspiracy theorists.” “This is nothing more than the standard practice of monitoring current events in the media,” Tyler Q. Houlton wrote. . .The Media Monitoring program falls under the DHS’s National Protection and Programs Directorate. Included in the division is the Office of Biometric Identity Management, Office of Cyber and Infrastructure Analysis, Office of Cybersecurity and Communications, Office of Infrastructure Protection, and The Federal Protective Service, which protects federal facilities. DHS has set an April 13, 2018 deadline for companies to submit their information.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The next leader of the Florida House is taking a step up in national politics as incoming Speaker Jose Oliva, R-Miami, is taking a leadership role with the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC). Oliva was one of 22 officials from 18 states who will serve on the RSLC’s executive committee for its Future Majority Project initiative which is being chaired by Governors Susana Martinez of New Mexico and Brian Sandoval of Nevada and Lieutenant Governors Jenean Hampton of Kentucky and Evelyn Sanguinetti of Illinois. “We started the Future Majority Project in 2011 to support Republican candidates who better reflect the growing diversity of the American electorate. Since its founding we have helped elect over 100 diverse Republican state legislators and are continuing to expand this initiative into 2018,” RSLC President Matt Walter said on Thursday. “The RSLC’s Future Majority Project is critically important because our government functions best when its representatives reflect the growing diversity of the electorate. I am the daughter of teenage immigrant parents and I am proof that the American Dream is possible,” said Sanguinetti. “As our country’s first Latina lieutenant governor, I have a unique governing philosophy and policy perspective that benefits the residents I serve. I am proud to co-chair this effort to recruit diverse Republican candidates to our party.” “I’m personally aware of the unique challenges conservative minority candidates may encounter when running for office. Yet, I enjoy sharing GOP core principles of life, liberty and personal responsibility with anyone who’ll listen,”Hampton said. She is the first black person elected to statewide office in Kentucky’s history. “The Future Majority Project’s efforts to encourage, recruit, and support diverse Republican candidates for state offices are vital to the growth and success of the Republican Party.” The RSLC has spent almost $20 million with the Right Women, Right Now initiative and the Future Majority Project to “elect and support dynamic female and diverse candidates for state level offices.” Oliva is the only Florida Republican serving on the Future Majority Project’s executive committee. He will take the gavel from current House Speaker Richard Corcoran after the November elections.)

— BLUEDORN: THE IL GOP’S FUTURE WILL BE DETERMINED APRIL 18
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2018/04/bluedorn-the-il-gops-future-will-be-determined-april-18.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The time for soft words has passed. The Illinois Republican Party (IRP) is controlled by a cartel of men and women who ignore the Republican Platform, support (either directly or indirectly) the killing of babies, and can by no means be called “conservative.” Do you have an interest in this one, perhaps last, window of opportunity to work some good in the IRP? On April 18, every county in Illinois will hold a county Republican Party convention. At this county convention, Republican precinct committeemen will fill two important party positions: 1. The chair of the county Republican organization 2. The IRP State Central Committee (SCC) member that represents that county The IRP is governed by the SCC, which consists of 18 members, one representing each of the state’s congressional districts. The SCC members are elected by a vote of the precinct committeemen within each congressional district. The SCC is a powerful group. Their purpose is to “establish, organize, and promote the operations of the Republican Party.” They determine which candidates will receive money from the IRP and also who will serve on the Illinois State Convention platform committee. If you are a precinct committeeman, we urge you to vote for a liberty-minded, pro-life candidate that adheres to the Illinois Republican Party Platform. If you are not a precinct committeeman, you can still help by appealing to your precinct committeeman to vote for a conservative, Platform-respecting candidate. If there is no liberty-minded, pro-life candidate in your district, we suggest you abstain from voting. A substantial undervote sends a compelling message that the base of the IRP is conservative and wants conservatives to direct the IRP. Here are the State Central Committee 2018 candidates conservatives can personally recommend. Each one is worthy of the base’s support. Be brave. Be bold. Your boldness will strengthen the weaker ones to do good.)

Also, it would have the ability to track media coverage in over 100 languages, along with the “ability to create unlimited data tracking, statistical breakdown, and graphical analyses on ad-hoc basis.”)

— Rauner leads with his pocketbook – SCOTT REEDER
http://www.mywebtimes.com/2018/04/04/rauner-leads-with-his-pocketbook/aerdtl6/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: During the GOP primary race, Rauner led with his pocketbook, spending his own wealth to disparage Ives with falsehoods and deceptions. Sister Jean, on the other hand, led with her heart. Rambler players left the court and hugged her after each game. They had an abiding respect and trust for their leader. Rauner eked out a “win” in which half of his “players” showed their contempt. That’s the difference between leading with the pocketbook and leading with the heart. Governor, you could learn a lot from Sister Jean.)

Failing that, they successfully focused on ending my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership, Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster service, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee membership, and American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board membership.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-met-illinois-conservative-news-20180327-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A copy of the East Central Reporter landed in select mailboxes in 2016 with the look of a typical local newspaper. It had a community calendar. It listed high school sports statistics. And it contained an article about a statehouse candidate’s pitch to voters. But was that story news? Or was it a novel form of political advertising? Recently obtained documents and interviews show that an organization called Think Freely Media helped fund the operation that produced the article for the East Central Reporter’s website. As a nonprofit, Think Freely is forbidden by federal law from engaging in politics, and it has described the articles it funded as news. But State Board of Elections records also show a political committee, Liberty Principles, paid the same private company to publish the story in a print newspaper and mail it. That group, which state law says must spend its money on politicking, has labeled such content political ads. What these organizations have in common is one of the state’s most visible and controversial political figures, Dan Proft. Though Proft is known for backing conservative candidates for office through Liberty Principles, recent tax, business and campaign filings illuminate how other organizations with ties to Proft helped spread his political views through publications that showcase candidates he supports. It’s a situation that encompasses not only ethical questions about a modern tool of Illinois political warfare but also the national discussion over what constitutes “fake news.” Since 2015, thousands of articles have been published in more than two dozen print and online publications tied to Proft, who in addition to heading Liberty Principles has served as a consultant to Think Freely Media. The first articles were produced by a firm run by media entrepreneur Brian Timpone, a longtime friend of Proft’s who has frequently discussed Illinois politics as a guest on Proft’s morning radio show. Timpone’s firm, called Newsinator, also has a history of doing paid political work and offers marketing services to companies under the name Interactive Content Services. After Proft’s political committee paid Newsinator in 2016 to mail print versions of some publications to voters, the state elections board ordered Liberty Principles to identify such materials as political advertising more clearly in the future. But regulators did not impose fines, and since then, records and interviews show, Proft has doubled down on his media venture by teaming with Timpone to start a new private company, Local Government Information Services, that now runs the websites and publications created by Newsinator. (GRAPHIC) The new firm lists 29 websites it controls and 11 print publications, with names ranging from the Grundy Reporter to the North Cook News. The sites typically mix community calendars and local sports coverage, largely computer-generated, with articles that range from statistical dives into local government spending to stories that feature candidates whom Proft’s political committee has supported. The publications’ emergence over the past three years has drawn a range of critics, including Proft’s political opponents in both parties as well as journalists who have worked for traditional news organizations. Among them is Charlie Wheeler, a former longtime Chicago Sun-Times reporter who now directs the public affairs reporting program at the University of Illinois at Springfield. “They purport to be newspapers, but in my judgment they don’t subscribe to the tenets of traditional journalism. They do not provide balanced coverage,” Wheeler said. . .Different views of news. . .Funding a network. . .An ‘electioneering’ paper. . .New company takes over)

The average bill in DuPage County is higher than nearly 98 percent, followed by Kane County and McHenry County (both 96 percent), Cook County (94 percent) and Will County (93 percent). The report covers only counties where there are 10,000 single-family homes or more. In all, the nation has 3,144 counties, or more than twice the number in Attom’s study. NEW YORK TIMES
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Officials at E.P.A. raised concerns and were ousted – Eric Lipton, Kenneth P. Vogel and Lisa Friedman (DIERSEN: Have you raised concerns? I have. All during the almost 30 years that I worked for the federal government, I raised concerns about my superiors using Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion to waste the careers of and to get rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who they had not promoted to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. Consequently, my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

The consumer bureau, as well as fellow financial regulators like the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, is allowed under federal law to pay employees significantly more than other government agencies can pay. The rationale is that the higher salaries are necessary to recruit skilled employees who otherwise might land jobs on Wall Street. As a result, the C.F.P.B. is stocked with employees who earn more than the average Washington bureaucrat. Of the agency’s 1,600 employees, 219 make more than $200,000, according to the records reviewed by The Times.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Kevin Morrison v. Timothy Schneider: Every vote matters – Hal Dardick
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-bruce-rauner-godfather-20180405-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One of two Democrats vying to take on Republican Cook County Board Commissioner Timothy Schneider of Bartlett declared victory this week, after he was 12 votes ahead when provisional ballot counting ended Monday. Barring any last-minute hitches before the county election results are certified Tuesday, Kevin Morrison of Elk Grove Village will face Schneider, chairman of the state GOP and an ally of Gov. Rauner, in November. Democrats figure Schneider could be vulnerable, given that Hillary Clinton got 57 percent of the vote in his northwest suburban district in 2016, compared with 37 percent for President Donald Trump. “The status quo isn’t working for our families,” Morrison said in his statement declaring victory in the primary. Schneider enthusiastically cast the state Republican Party’s votes for Trump at the 2016 Republican National Convention. On Wednesday, he acknowledged Trump fared poorly in his district, but said that was a countywide phenomenon and not an indication of a broader political shift. “My district is historically Republican, and I believe it will remain that way,” he said. Morrison is a 28-year-old former special projects coordinator for Democratic U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg. He’s backed by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees — a union that Rauner has battled and pejoratively referred to as “Af-Scammy.” Schneider, 62, is a fiscally conservative golf course owner who in 2016 voted against the now-repealed county pop tax and in 2015 against the county’s 1-percentage-point increase in the sales tax. Over the years, he’s also often been the lone “no” vote against county worker labor contracts.)

ILLINOIS TIMES
— Rosanna Pulido: The anti-welcome lady A veteran immigration fighter finds her voice in Springfield – Fletcher Farrar
http://illinoistimes.com/article-19857-the-anti-welcome-lady.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rosanna Pulido was nearly unknown in Springfield until last fall when she emerged as the strongest citizen voice opposing the city council resolution to make Springfield a “Welcoming City.” The resolution is positive, progressive and innocuous, with phrases like, “the City of Springfield is committed to continue building a neighborly and welcoming atmosphere in our community, where all are welcome, accepted and appreciated.” But to Pulido, there is nothing innocuous about opening the city’s doors to immigrants and refugees, who she equates with “illegal aliens.” Her arguments that the resolution would be a foot in the door leading to all kinds of harm, from increased crime to increased costs for public services, helped persuade aldermen to table the resolution on a 7-3 vote, with Mayor Jim Langfelder, the son of an immigrant, announcing his opposition as well. She is well known nationally for her past anti-immigrant activism in Chicago. Pulido has only recently become vocal in Springfield, where she moved three years ago. She had spent several years caring for her parents in their final years – first her mother until her death, then her father. After the death of her father, who lived in Texas, she accepted the offer of a friend for whom she had been maid of honor to stay at her home in LaSalle County while she was deciding what to do next. Pulido found peace and quiet there, then moved to Springfield. She speaks of wanting to retire, perhaps from activism, but still has some fight left, now that the national mood seems headed in her direction. “I love Donald Trump,” she says. “He’s with me on immigration. I’ve been battling that since 2003 – fighting, fighting, fighting. Now I see a ray of hope.” In 2001 a friend who was police chief helped her land a job as police dispatcher in Northfield, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. She was appalled when a police detective brought in four different fake IDs, each one slightly different, from a crime suspect who had been arrested. “That opened my eyes to what was going on,” she said. Soon there was a movement to “give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens” and she became active in the fight against that. In 2005 she joined the national group the Minuteman Project in its gathering of some 1,200 volunteers on the Arizona-Mexico border for a citizens patrol to prevent Mexicans from illegally crossing into the U.S. Upon her return she organized an Illinois chapter of the Minutemen. The Minuteman Project has been called a “hate group” for its zeal in the fight against undocumented immigrants. Is it a hate group? “We’re all just regular people,” Pulido says. Over the years she’s associated with other groups accused of being hate groups, including the Federation for American Immigration Reform, for which she is now state adviser. Labeling groups as hate groups is “the way they do things now,” she says. “Everything is blown out of proportion. I’m not going to worry about it.” She then names several left-leaning groups that oppose her point of view. “They’re hate groups. They’re anti-American. They want to change America and our way of life.” Much of Pulido’s public record of controversial statements comes from her 2009 run for Congress as the Republican nominee in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Rahm Emanuel, a race she lost to Democrat Mike Quigley. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights has listed her statements on two fact sheets titled, “The Real Hate in the Debate.” “They hate me,” she says of ICIRR. But she doesn’t deny the statements the group attributes to her, one of which is an off-color joke about gays she had posted on the internet before she began her political campaign. “I made a joke about gays,” she tells me in our interview. “I’m not perfect. I’m going to screw up. I make mistakes.” She says her joke was brought up at a campaign appearance at a gay bar. “I told them I did it, and if I offended anybody I’m sorry. The whole gay bar stood up and gave me a standing ovation.” In Chicago she accused the Catholic church of deliberately luring illegal immigrants to support Catholic social programs. “If the church succeeds in their mission, they will destroy the United States of America,” she said in testimony to an Illinois House committee. “That’s absolutely true,” she says now, while insisting she is not anti-Catholic, having attended a Catholic grade school and an all-girls Catholic high school. No longer Catholic, she is now an evangelical Christian, but she admires her father for remaining a staunch Catholic to the end. She also had posted a comment about Muslims praying. “It reminds me of my dog, smelling butts,” she wrote in 2003. She apologized for that also during the campaign. “Because I’m human. I make mistakes.” She said conservatives make jokes among themselves that may not be appropriate for a wider audience. “If I were with other Hispanics, I could make jokes about Hispanics,” she told me. I asked her if she is a bigot. “I’m a Mexican,” she replies. “I can’t be bigoted.” Pulido often refers to her Mexican heritage, though she was born in Chicago and her parents were both born in Texas. When I asked in an email how far back are her Mexican roots, her reply said in part, “We’re all immigrants from somewhere,” with a clip of President Bill Clinton in 1995 saying it is wrong for a “nation of immigrants” to permit abuse of immigration laws. In Springfield, Pulido may get her second wind. “I’m not afraid to speak out,” she says. “I am not afraid.”)

In Illinois, almost always, Republicans who win in primary elections, but lose in general elections, fail/refuse to defend/advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and/or other planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform.)
https://theillinoischronicle.com/chronicle-post-primary-poll-has-rauner-down-22-points/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new poll taken after Illinois’s bruising gubernatorial primary does not have good news for Governor Bruce Rauner, who is losing to Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker by 22 points in the survey. Perhaps even more ominously, Rauner’s unfavorable ratings are double his favorable. Polling like this one, by Odgen & Fry, have led analysts to rate Rauner the country’s most vulnerable governor. A Politico analysis takes note of the strong challenge waged by Republican primary opponent, State Rep. Jeanne Ives, who Politico wrote, ran “incendiary television ads aimed at turning conservatives against the incumbent.” Rauner barely won the primary. Last month, a poll found Rauner is even much less liked than President Donald Trump statewide. Rauner’s favorable rating has sunk to an epic low with just 26% of Illinois voters saying they have a favorable view of the Governor. 63% have an unfavorable view. Meanwhile President Donald Trump has a favorability of 37% of voters statewide, while 58% rated him unfavorably. Among just Republican voters, the poll found that just 49% view Rauner favorably, while President Trump’s scores 73% favorable among those voters. “That’s just spectacularly lousy for a governor who isn’t under criminal investigation,” said Illinois political blogger Rich Miller, of the results. In June, an overview of governors’ races by the respected non-partisan political prognosticator The Cook Report agreed with Politico’s view and labeled Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner as the most vulnerable incumbent seeking re-election in 2018. The analysis noted that “Rauner has been under siege for much of his term,” due to his failure to pass a state budget.)

— Orange County Plunges Into Trumpworld With Immigrant Detainer Battle – Raoul Lowery-Contreras (DIERSEN: What has your county done that shows that it wants to enforce federal immigration laws?)
http://dailycaller.com/2018/04/05/orange-county-immigrant-detainer-battle/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Supporters of President Donald Trump in Orange County California could not deliver their famous Republican county for Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Part of the reason was that the county seat, the city of Santa Ana, was and is the second largest Mexican-American city in the country after San Antonio, Texas. Trump barely scored 20 percent with Hispanic voters around the country — and probably less in California. Now, 17 months after Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton swamped Trump in California by 4 million votes and Orange County by 102,000, Orange County’s allegedly conservative political leaders are rebelling against the governor and legislature that have passed laws making the state a “sanctuary” state; that is, affording some illegal immigrants protection from federal law enforcement. President Trump is cheering the county sheriff and county board by tweets like an energetic girl cheerleader who starts her day with two expressos. Orange County is rebelling against the state of California that passed into law prohibitions of state employees and private businesses from actively helping federal authorities violate federal court orders on immigration sweeps and detention of prisoners until the federal government gets around to securing judge-signed arrest warrants. Some observers wonder how the Orange County Board of Supervisors can sue the state when, in fact, California counties are mere subdivisions of the state. Specifically, how can Orange County sue when the very actions the Trump administration wants to implement in California have been ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge? The Los Angeles Times: “A federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled that police departments violate the Constitution if they detain inmates at the request of immigration agents…U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte Jr. found that…the constitutional rights of inmates who were kept in custody at the behest of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers (their rights were violated)…police cannot legally honor such detainer requests from ICE…‘officers have no authority to arrest individuals for civil immigration offenses, and thus, detaining individuals beyond their date for release violated the individuals’ Fourth Amendment rights.” So, what is Orange County up to? The county sheriff’s department has come up with a way that is side-stepping the state law (SB 54) that limits cooperation between the sheriff and the federal government. The department is publishing a list of all inmates with their release dates on the internet.)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
— Who will pay for paid family leave? – George Will (DIERSEN: Of course, the answer is those who do not have children. I should write book about those who have demonized, denigrated, and condemned me the most because my wife and I gave up trying to have children, because we did not adopt, and because we did not become foster parents. Of course, they not only want Roskam to keep the marriage penalty for those who itemize, they want Roskam to increase the marriage penalty.)
http://www.sj-r.com/opinion/20180401/george-will-who-will-pay-for-paid-family-leave
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The recent bipartisan budget agreement, which indicates that 10-digit deficits are acceptable to both parties even when the economy is robust, indicates government’s future. So does government’s pregnancy, which was announced nine months ago by this tweet from Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.: “In America, no family should be forced to put off having children due to economic insecurity.” The phrase “due to economic insecurity” is a way to avoid saying “until they can afford them.” Evidently it is now retrograde to expect family planning to involve families making plans that fit their resources. Which brings us to the approaching birth of a new entitlement: paid family leave after the birth or adoption of a child. This arrival will coincide with gargantuan deficits produced primarily by existing entitlements.)

https://www.roskamforcongress.com/issues/oversight-and-accountability/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: As Chairman of the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee, Peter has been leading the fight to reform the IRS and root out the mismanagement and abuse the troubled agency has inflicted upon hardworking taxpayers. When the IRS got caught abusing its power and unfairly targeting conservatives, Peter led the charge to investigate and hold the guilty parties accountable. When the agency tried to use gift taxes to target and diminish charitable donations to conservative groups, Peter passed a law to stop it – scoring a major legislative victory. He will continue to hold the IRS accountable and make sure these abuses never happen again. Peter has been a leading voice fighting to change the culture at the IRS. He wrote and passed into law the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, which protects taxpayers and their private information from IRS abuse. He forced the IRS to re-train every one of its employees and hang a copy in every one of its facilities. Through his oversight and accountability work, Peter exposed major abuses of power by the IRS. The agency used strong-arm tactics to seize the assets of law-abiding citizens and small businesses. He is now forcing the IRS to repay every dollar they took and is changing the rules so that it can’t happen again.)

http://abc7chicago.com/health/type-2-diabetes-are-you-at-risk/3293346/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As the years go by, Americans are getting heavier and less active. These factors are directly related to the increased prevalence of diabetes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 30 million American adults – nearly 10 percent – have been diagnosed with the disease. The majority of people diagnosed with the condition have type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes occurs when you produce insulin but your body’s cells are unable to use it as efficiently as they should. This leads to the pancreas producing extra insulin to get glucose to your cells but eventually sugar builds up in your blood instead. The main risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes include: Genetics – Your DNA can affect how your body makes insulin African-American, Native American, Asian-American or Hispanic ethnicity Being overweight or obese – a BMI over 25 (my BMI is 30), especially if you carry extra weight around your waist Inactivity Poor nutrition High blood pressure High cholesterol Even if you do not have any of the risk factors for diabetes, you could still develop the disease. In fact, we’re seeing diabetes at younger ages and in populations where it wasn’t prevalent in the past. Even if you’re not at high risk on paper, it’s important to get routine checkups with your primary care physician. He or she can evaluate your blood glucose level with a fasting blood sugar test.)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always shouted that I was overpaid. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/lawmakers-shouldnt-compromise-on-keeping-salary-history-private/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: It’s a simple concept: Your current pay stub is your business when you apply for a new job. Asking applicants for a salary history helps to perpetuate wage discrimination and the gender pay gap, given women’s long history of unequal pay. Besides that, it’s a turnoff for job seekers across the board, who worry about killing their chances for an interview because they’re already making too much or too little. If an employer offers you a prestigious job that’s worth a big salary, they should pay you that salary regardless of past earnings. If you’re willing to take a pay cut because the job itself is more attractive, that’s a decision you should be able to freely make.)

CAPITOL FAX
— Ives spokesperson says no talks yet with Rauner (DIERSEN: Rauner defeated Ives in the Republican primary by running against the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and other planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform. Maybe Rauner plans on defeating Pritzker in the general election by doing the same thing.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Day 13: Rauner and Ives Feud Moves into Second Month It’s no April Fool’s joke – Governor Bruce Rauner’s and state Representative Jeanne Ives’ GOP feud is moving into its second month. Thirteen days ago, Ives nearly knocked off the incumbent Rauner by running a primary campaign on his dishonesty and management failures. Now, the calendar turns to April and Rauner has still not spoken with Ives or earned the trust of her supporters. Last week, Ives demanded Rauner run ads apologizing for his dishonesty before she would endorse him. And Ives’ supporters do not sound like they are happy with Rauner’s minimal efforts of reconciliation. “The longer Bruce Rauner lets his feud with Jeanne Ives fester, the harder it will be to bring his divided party back together,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “With his rock-bottom approval ratings, Rauner’s already damaging his failing re-election campaign by allowing this battle to enter its second month.”)

ACCURACY IN MEDIA
— Howard University Students Hold Building Hostage (DIERSEN: While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, it offered either no reimbursement for tuition for job-related college courses or just a token reimbursement. My superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government used that non-reimbursement policy to justify their not taking job-related college courses. Nevertheless, I spent a tremendous amount of my own time and my own money taking courses to earn a job-related bachelor’s degree in 1970, earning three job-related master’s degrees in 1976, 1980, and 1997, and earning two job-related professional certifications in 1979 and 1981.)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2018/04/02/five-democratic-arguments-that-might-resonate-in-the-suburbs/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democrats seem to be coming to the realization that their traditional base — single women, minorities, young voters, college-educated voters, urban dwellers — is perfectly compatible with other demographic cross-sections of America (e.g. married women, suburbanites, #NeverTrump Republicans). Moreover, occasional voters (e.g. millennials) can become spirited activists and off-year voters if given enough reason to turn out. There is no shortage of issues that can bring together all these voters. We’ll start with just five that might resonate in the suburbs, with college-educated women and with disaffected Republicans — and also, in some cases, might help turn out traditional Democratic constituents.)

April 1 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— What were you doing 40 years ago today? My wife Karen and I were getting married at her Catholic church in Chicago. We both worked in downtown Chicago. I had worked for IRS since 1971 and she had worked for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions since 1970. In today’s dollars, IRS paid me $89,178/year. We used her savings for the down payment to buy 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton and we used the profit from the sale of my one bedroom condo in the Outer Drive East building to buy a new 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale and a new 1978 Chevy Chevette. I soon sold my 1962 Chevy BelAir and I continued to store my 1972 Corvette in my mother’s garage in Crete. I took graduate accounting courses at DePaul’s downtown building and Karen soon started taking courses there toward a bachelor’s degree in finance. Because of Money Magazine’s February 1978 4-page article on us, IRS had disallowed all the graduate business courses that I had taken at Loyola and all the graduate accounting courses that I had taken at DePaul. Eventually, I won a split decision in Tax Court. The judge imposed a new rule that you cannot deduct accounting courses until you are qualified to take the CPA examination. I continued to rent out a town home in University Park that I had bought new in 1972.  I sold it in 1984 when we had 915 Cove Court built in Wheaton. – Dave Diersen

While I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325, I increasingly worked as a referencer, that is, as a fact checker. That work required assuring the accuracy and support for each and every word, number, table, graph, chart, conclusion, opinion, and recommendation in GAO reports. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. My other fact checking qualifications include my becoming a Forensic Accountant in 1997, a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, a licensed CPA in 1981, a Certified Internal Auditor in 1981, and a CPA in 1979.)

How many Democrats in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois a) cast Republican ballots in primary elections to do whatever damage that they can and b) vote for Democrats in general elections. Why did 105 in my precinct cast Republican primary ballots and voted for either Rauner/Sanguinetti or Ives/Morthland, but in the uncontested races, only 81 voted for Helland, only 81 voted for Senger, only 80 voted for Dodge, only 87 voted for Roskam, only 84 voted for Connelly, only 78 voted for Ruscitti, only 81 voted for Cronin, only 80 voted for Hinds, only 84 voted for Henry, only 75 voted for Cantore, only 76 voted for Wilson, only 75 voted for Mackay, and only 77 voted for me. Democrats want members of Group A to become the voting majorities in precincts, in municipalities, in townships/wards, in counties, in states, and in America so that they have enough voting power to get rid of members of Group B once and for all. Members of Group A are anti-Trump supporters, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time and members of Group B are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)

LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR
— We all must fight realities of racism – ESTHER J. CEPEDA (DIERSEN: Anti-Trumps shout at young people and at everyone else that Republicans are White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things.)

FORBES
— Hogg’s Advertising Boycott Is Not Suppressing Ingraham’s Free Speech – Fruzsina Eordogh (DIERSEN: Who boycotts you and why? I should write a book about the individuals, organizations, companies, and governments that boycott me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems.)

BLOOMBERG
— How Facebook Helps Shady Advertisers Pollute the Internet “They go out and find the morons for me.” – Zeke Faux (DIERSEN: GOPUSA ILLINOIS does not seek, nor will it accept, any kind of advertising. He who pays the piper calls the tunes. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes hint/imply/argue/shout that the more advertising that is on a website or an email, the more legitimate and credible that website or email is.)

— Why pay equality is still out of reach – CLAIRE SUDDATH, DAVID HELLIER, LUCY MEAKIN, STEPHEN MORRIS, SUZI RING, AND JANET PASKIN (DIERSEN: The Illinois Equal Pay Act requires men and women to be paid the same for similar work. If I had not been denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. GAO, I would have provided a jury with many examples in which GAO paid its female employees not only more for the same work, but more for lesser work, including one example in which GAO paid one of my subordinates who was a female, a minority, and a veteran more than it paid me.

— 50 years later, echoes of 1968 resonate in U.S. (DIERSEN: What were you doing in 1968? I was a full-time student at UIC and a part-time employee for the Park Forest Post Office. I lived with my parents and brother in Crete. I sold my 1968 Oldsmobile 442 and bought a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE. I saved money for college expenses.)

— Company gender pay gap reporting is already helping, and will continue to help tackle inequalities The historical evidence, such as Northern Ireland’s attempt to reduce the gap between Catholic and Protestant employment, suggests that when it comes to various dimensions of equality in the workplace, some information is better than no information – Ben Chu (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton and/or in Glen Ellyn who discriminate against those who are not a member of their church.)
