DAILY HERALD
— Palatine Hometown Fest parade draws a crowd, despite the heat – James Kane (DIERSEN: Peter Roskam will be in Wheaton’s Independence Day parade along with Peter Breen, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Paul Hinds, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliot, Chris Zaruba, James Mendrick, Jeff MacKay, Karen Wilson, Evelyn Sanguinetti, and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee. DuPage County Republicans are sponsoring the Tunes of Glory Pipes & Drums and the Wheaton North and South high school bands.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180630/palatine-hometown-fest-parade-draws-a-crowd-despite-the-heat
(FROM THE ARTICLE: While the event led off with a large contingent of police vehicles and officers, followed by fire equipment, much more numerous were the legions of people marching in support of Republican candidates for state, local and national office. . .Gov. Bruce Rauner and attorney general candidate Erika Harrold were among the statewide candidates working the crowd in the sweltering heat, but the largest group of political marchers was backing U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, who is in a tough reelection fight. The Republicans were followed by a small contingent of marchers supporting Democratic candidates.)

— Inside Facebook and Twitter’s secret meetings with Trump aides and conservative leaders – Tony Romm (DIERSEN: Who are the conservative leaders in Illinois, in your county, in your township/ward, and in your municipality? How often do they publish articles on their websites in support of the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform? Who reads their articles? Who reads their emails?)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180630/inside-facebook-and-twitters-secret-meetings-with-trump-aides-and-conservative-leaders
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Twitter and Facebook are scrambling to assuage conservative leaders who have sounded alarms — and sought to rile voters — with accusations that the country’s tech giants are censoring right-leaning posts, tweets and news. From secret dinners with conservative media elite to private meetings with the Republican National Committee, the new outreach reflects tech giants’ delicate task: satisfying a party in power while defending online platforms against attacks that threaten to undermine the public’s trust in the web. . . . To address the allegations, Dorsey has tried to break bread — quite literally — with his company’s critics. The Twitter executive convened a rare private dinner with Republican leaders and conservative commentators in Washington last week at Cafe Milano, a familiar Georgetown haunt for city power brokers, according to four people who participated in the dinner but requested anonymity because it was off the record. The gathering came weeks after Dorsey invoked conservatives’ ire by tweeting a story suggesting voters should elect Democrats in November — and after he made his first official visit to Congress. Among those attending the June 19 dinner were Mercedes Schlapp, a top communications adviser for Trump; Grover Norquist, the leader of Americans for Tax Reform; Greta Van Susteren, a right-leaning host on MSNBC; and Guy Benson, a Fox News commentator, according to the people in the room. Dorsey hoped to use the dinner as a way to build “trust” among conservatives who have long chastised the company, three of the people said. He defended Twitter against accusations that it targeted right-leaning users unfairly but still admitted that the company has room for improvement, according to the attendees. In response, the Twitter executive heard an earful from conservatives gathered at the table, who scoffed at the fact that Dorsey runs a platform that’s supposed to be neutral even though he’s tweeted about issues like immigration, gay rights and national politics. They also told Dorsey that the tech industry’s efforts to improve diversity — after years of criticism for maintaining a largely white, male workforce — should focus on hiring engineers with more diverse political viewpoints as well, according to those who dined with him in Washington. A spokesman for Twitter declined to comment on the dinner.)

CHAMPAIGN/URBANA NEWS GAZETTE
— Sam’s a sham – Editorial
http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/editorials/2018-06-27/editorial-sams-sham.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The only people happier that McCann to see him enter the contest between Republican incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrat J.B. Pritzker are Democrats who hope that McCann, a nominal Republican, will draw enough votes from Rauner to give Pritzker the win. The Democratic Governors Association issued a statement gloatingly predicting that McCann’s candidacy will draw hard-line conservatives from the GOP, further complicating Rauner’s efforts to unify the party behind him. “Just when he needs to turn to the general election, Bruce Rauner will have to keep refighting the battles of the primary,” said DGA Illinois communications director Sam Salustro. McCann, who is running as a representative of a new Conservative Party, indicated that he’s running as a proponent of gun rights and lower taxes. To hear him talk, he’s a proud conservative ideologue. But that’s just rhetoric. McCann is running — and he knows he’s running — to ensure the defeat of Rauner, with whom he has publicly crossed swords, and the election of Pritzker. . .Second, Rauner has alienated conservatives, particularly with his decision to sign legislation providing taxpayer-funded abortions. He barely won the primary against little-known state Rep. Jeanne Ives, who challenged Rauner from the right. Whether Rauner can get those conservatives back remains undetermined. He keeps reminding them that he’s all that stands between them and complete Democratic control of the state. But ideologues of both the right and left can’t bear any candidate who, in their view, double-crosses them on even a single issue. In that sense, McCann’s candidacy is a direct consequence of Gov. Rauner’s own actions, a hurdle that he unintentionally created and one that will be difficult to overcome.)

DECATUR DAILY
— Creating a compassionate and workable immigration policy – Franklin Johnson, Falkville (DIERSEN: All my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes want cheap labor.)
http://www.decaturdaily.com/opinion/letters_to_editor/creating-a-compassionate-and-workable-immigration-policy/article_41a80bff-d25c-5126-85a9-946e653a9c09.html
(FROM THE LETTER: I don’t know how you can do it. You continue to frame the immigration crisis as a struggle between persecuted families yearning for a better life opposed by hard-hearted white nativists determined to maintain racial purity. Right before your eyes, elements of both political parties are trying to impose slavery — not legal slavery, but economic and political slavery on a whole class of people. They talk humanity, but their purpose is profit and control: 1. Cheap labor from people who won’t or can’t complain; 2. A servant class who can be manipulated because of their lack of education and their dependence. You deny that you are in favor of open borders, yet you oppose any workable effort to stanch the flow: a wall, zero tolerance, moratoriums, and most of all, deportation for those who broke the law getting here as a deterrent. Your idea of immigration reform is amnesty for all who will take a token pledge. You appear not to be concerned about what happens to children who arrive here unescorted. They vanish from their foster homes, and you don’t consider what hells are being imposed on them as they’re scattered through the country. You refuse to say how many new immigrants is enough and you oppose setting standards for those we accept. You quote Emma Lazarus, but you don’t recognize that immigration was once a controlled process. You try to shame us for opposing this travesty while ignoring the results on the Americans impacted. Speak up. Line it out. What is your idea of a compassionate and workable immigration policy without the platitudes, histrionics, and tear-jerking?)

GOVERNOR RAUNER
— A beautiful Sunday to celebrate Pride Day in Chicago! (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the future looks bleak for those who support the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform. To promote LGBTQ activity is to dump those voters who support the traditional family plank in the IRP platform. To promote abortion is to dump those voters who support the right to life plank in the IRP platform. To promote illegal immigration is to dump those voters who support the immigration plank in the IRP platform. Ever-increasingly, Rauner seems to promise that if he is reelected, he will drive those who support the aforesaid planks out of the IRP once and for all, that is, that he will destroy the IRP once and for all. If Rauner is reelected, he will dump those who support the aforesaid planks. If Rauner is not reelected, he will blame those who support the aforesaid planks.)

How successful have the anti-Trumps been in getting the Republican candidates on the November 6 ballot in your precinct a) to play down their support for Trump, b) to not support Trump, and c) to demonize, denigrate, and condemn Trump? (FROM THE ARTICLE: The party is encouraging the “all politics is local” approach despite the temptation to focus on the Republican president’s tweets. U.S. Rep. Denny Heck, of Washington, is helping lead the Democrat’s effort to pick up the 23 seats needed to regain control of the House. He said trash talking Trump will only go so far. Republicans also are encouraging House candidates to focus on local issues instead of the latest national headlines.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-met-abortion-medicaid-taxpayer-funded-illinois-20180523-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner outraged his party’s conservative base by signing the legislation in September. Then in the March primary he narrowly defeated challenger Jeanne Ives, a state lawmaker whose televised campaign ad featured a young woman thanking the governor “for making all Illinois families pay for my abortions.” Anti-abortion organizations along with some Republican lawmakers sued to block the measure and, after a judge dismissed their case, appealed to the Illinois State Supreme Court in February. The suit is pending. “The fact that the government is using taxpayer money to fund abortion is reprehensible to me,” said Tim Moore, president of Springfield Right to Life, one of the plaintiffs. “I’m subsidizing an immoral act. I’m subsidizing the culture of death. The government, which is supposed to protect life, is willfully taking part in the slaughter of innocents.”)

They would say that the only reason why my Democrat GAO superiors promoted me to GS-13 in 1986 and gave me step increases in subsequent years was to get my “high 3” salary, and therefore my pension, high enough that I would cave in and take their a) early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, if not take b) their $25,000 buyout “offer” in 1993 when I was 45 years old.)

— Lawmakers Call for an Investigation Into Discipline at VA – Eric Katz (DIERSEN: When will Republicans call for an investigation into discipline at GAO, IRS, and the Post Office? My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

Aparicio is undeterred by a new directive from Attorney General Jeff Sessions declaring that gang and domestic violence will generally cease to be grounds for asylum. — Why Aren’t More Men Working? – N. Gregory Mankiw (DIERSEN: Democrat politicians want the federal government to hire, to retain, and to promote young Democrat women and young Democrat minorities. Of course, that means not hiring, not retaining, not promoting, wasting the careers of, and getting rid of those who are old, Republican, male, White, and/or non-veteran.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/15/business/men-unemployment-jobs.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With unemployment at 3.8 percent, its lowest level in many years, the labor market seems healthy. But that number hides a perplexing anomaly: The percentage of men who are neither working nor looking for work has risen substantially over the past several decades. The issue, in economist’s jargon, is labor force participation. When the Bureau of Labor Statistics surveys households, every adult is put into one of three categories. Those who have a job are employed. Those who are not working but are searching for a job are unemployed. Those who are neither working nor looking for work are counted as out of the labor force. This last group is ignored when calculating the unemployment rate. The presumption is that if a person without a job isn’t looking for one, then he or she doesn’t want one, and the joblessness is not a problem. But is that really accurate? The data show some striking changes over time. Among women, the share out of the labor force has fallen from 66 percent in 1950 to 43 percent today. That is not surprising in light of changing social norms and the greater career opportunities now open to women. Men, however, exhibit the opposite long-term trend. In 1950, 14 percent of men were out of the labor force. Today, that figure stands at 31 percent. Some of this change is easy to explain. People now spend more years in school, delaying their start of work. In addition, as life expectancy rises, people have longer retirements. A man retiring at age 65 in 1950 could expect to live another 13 years. Today, a man retiring at that age has an average retirement of 18 years. Yet schooling and retirement explain only part of what has occurred. Consider prime-age men, those from the ages of 25 to 54. These men are generally well past their schooling and well before their retirement. Yet this group has also been exiting the labor force. In 1950, only 4 percent of prime-age men were not working or looking for work. Today, that figure is 11 percent.)

http://www.breitbart.com/2018-elections/2018/06/10/generic-poll-gap-widens-as-gop-donors-ryan-push-amnesty/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The GOP’s deficit in the generic-ballot poll score has spiked from just 3.2 points to 7.6 points in the last week as business donors and House Speaker Paul Ryan push for a wage-cutting amnesty. The new polls show all of the GOP’s gradual gains since mid-March were suddenly wiped out starting June 1, when the Democrats held a mere 3.2 point advantage in the generic ballot, which records voters’ partisan preference. One week late, on June 8, the gap had jumped to 7.6 percent as the establishment media extensively and favorably covered the discharge-petition push and Ryan’s June 6 public support for an amnesty.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the video, Grossman calls diversity an “un-American” concept, implies that the country was better off before affirmative action and says black Americans would benefit from stronger immigration enforcement. “The whole idea of diversity is a bunch of crap and un-American,” Grossman says. Diversity, he says, is “an excuse by Democrats, communists and socialists, basically, to say that we’re not all created equal, that if some people or somebody is less qualified, they will get a job anyway or they’ll get into college anyway because of what group or what box they fit into.” “Once we say that Republicans want these traditional ways that made America great for all these years, then maybe African-Americans will realize if we enforce our immigration laws, they’ll be more opportunities for Americans of all backgrounds,” he adds. “When we talk about women saying ‘Well we need special care for child care, we need this credit and that credit.’ I say, wait a minute, when America was great, one parent alone earned more than enough money to comfortably support a family.” On Monday, Grossman, a noted supporter of President Trump, told Philly.com that he stands by his comments. He also contended that American Bridge PAC is trying to brand Trump-aligned Republicans as “radical and unacceptable.”)

CAPITOL FAX
— Rauner’s ‘GOP Unity Week’ Fail – Rich Miller
https://capitolfax.com/2018/05/24/live-session-coverage-350/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ives Calls for Party Leadership to Resign, Party Leaders Fight About Unity in First 2 Days This week was supposed to be a celebration of unity for Governor Bruce Rauner after he surrendered full control of the Illinois Republican Party, but it quickly fell apart for the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent. On Monday, state Representative Jeanne Ives called on the entire Republican Party leadership to resign. Then, local Republican leaders Pat Brady and Dan Proft fought in a panel titled “The Future of the Republican Party in Illinois” yesterday, even though Rauner is a sitting governor up for re-election. At one point, Proft sarcastically stated: “Right, but we can expect to unify the party and present an attractive offer when Pat is running around saying John Tillman, Dan Proft, everyone that disagrees with me is a hater, and just dismissing all the policy concerns of the conservative base of the party and telling everyone to get out. I mean, if we’re all unified, Pat, I’m sorry I guess this lunch is dismissed because we have nothing to talk about…We are on our way to super majorities and Republican Governors as far as the eye can see, and anyone who believes that please feel free to leave and get on with your day.” It did not appear that anyone left. “Bruce Rauner’s party cannot even last a day pretending like they’re unified without falling into chaos,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “After 48% of Republicans voted to kick Rauner out, it’s not surprising that the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent is finding it impossible to put his party back together.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago Public Schools’ inspector general is calling on the school district to stop offering a free full-day Montessori preschool to students from the richest neighborhood in the school district. Preschool in Chicago is typically only free for low-income students. But the tuition-free preschool at Oscar Mayer Elementary School in Lincoln Park almost exclusively serves students who live in a neighborhood of mostly upper-income homes. CPS spends about $700,000 a year on the preschool, according to a report released Wednesday. A comparable private preschool could charge parents as much as $15,000 a year. CPS Inspector General Nicholas Schuler said he was “incredulous” that there would be “this perk, for one neighborhood school, as opposed to all other schools.” The average median family income in Mayer’s attendance area — nearly $178,000 a year — is the highest of any attendance area in CPS, an analysis by the IG’s office determined.)

The Prairie Path Park is in my precinct. I knew the woman and her husband who donated the park to the Wheaton Park District. Since 1984, I have urged Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District to do more to address the park’s flooding and other problems. In 2001, I followed the Wheaton Park District’s Adopt-A-Park procedures and adopted the park. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) continue to stress that I sued Wheaton in 1986 for approving a woefully inadequate storm water drainage plan for its Cove Court subdivision and for letting the subdivision’s developer violate the Illinois Drainage Code, b) continue to call for everyone to continue to punish me for filing that lawsuit, and c) continue to oppose my suggestions to improve the park including my suggestions to improve storm water drainage in the park.)

Webster, McGrath & Ahlberg currently is working on the Jefferson Avenue, Madison Avenue and Prairie Path Park Flood Prone Area Study, set for completion in July.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The message is very clear. Speak out against the Speaker and people loyal to him will come after you.” Those words, spoken Tuesday by Democratic state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, sadly sum up Michael Madigan’s despot-like reign over Illinois politics for more than three decades. Madigan, of course, is the “Speaker” in Cassidy’s comment. He has been Illinois’ House speaker for all but two years since 1983. He’s also been the chairman of the state Democratic Party since 1998, a position Democrats re-elected him to just last month despite a #MeToo harassment scandal swirling within his political organization. As the longest-serving legislative leader in American history and the longest-serving head of a major political party in Illinois history, Madigan wields more power than any other elected state official in the country and more than any single individual should be allowed to have. He controls the party’s campaign war chest, so he decides which Democratic candidates to fund in primary elections. He controls the rules for moving legislation through his chamber, so he decides which bills get to be voted on and which do not. He controls the legislative redistricting process, so he manipulates general elections. And because of all that, he controls the members of his Democratic caucus. Cross him, and you probably should start looking for something else to do.)

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/nurse-sued-hospital-retaliation-awarded-28-million-55399009
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A jury has ruled that a Boston hospital retaliated against a Haitian-American nurse who stood up for a black colleague and has awarded her $28 million. Gessy Toussaint’s attorney described Wednesday’s verdict against Brigham and Women’s Hospital as “monumental.” The Boston Globe reports that Toussaint also had accused the hospital of racial discrimination, but the jury didn’t find proof of that claim. Toussaint says the retaliation started after she defended another Haitian-American nurse, Nirva Berthold, who also is suing the hospital. Berthold says she was denied a promotion because she’s black. That claim is still pending. The hospital says it plans to appeal the retaliation ruling but is pleased with the decision on Toussaint’s discrimination claim.)

MADISON RECORD
— State central committeeman Winchester sues state GOP; case removed to federal court
https://madisonrecord.com/stories/511424774-state-central-committeeman-winchester-sues-state-gop-case-removed-to-federal-court
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bob Winchester, central committeeman of the Illinois Republican Party since 1992, claims in U.S. district court that the party rigged an election against him. His lawyer, Stephen Boulton of Chicago, alleges that the party improperly favored State Sen. Chapin Rose of Champaign for committeeman in an election on April 18. According to Boulton’s complaint, irregularities occurred at county conventions across the 15th Congressional district. He wrote that irregularities changed the vote “from the true result, a majority in favor of Winchester, to a false result, an alleged majority in favor of Rose.” In an interview on May 21, Boulton said that he had “a number” of affidavits from Madison County which demonstrate that Bob Winchester won the election. Last month, the Record reported that precinct committee men and women in Madison County chose Winchester over Rose by a margin of approximately 60 to 40 percent, and then as a sign of unity voted by acclamation to place 100 percent of the county’s vote in favor of Winchester. Winchester filed the suit in Hardin County, against state central committee members and State Board of Elections members who certified Rose’s election. The party removed the action to federal court on May 18. Boulton’s complaint described a county convention where, “only Rose was presented as a candidate for whom votes could be cast.” “Rose alone was nominated, and by the chairman of the convention,” the complaint states. He wrote that the chairman reported a unanimous vote for Rose to party staff. Boulton said it happened in Fayette County, where Randy Pollard serves as county GOP chairman. “It was over in 45 seconds,” Boulton said. “No understood what happened.” In the complaint, he wrote that several county chairmen reported incorrect results to staff, favoring Rose and that county chairmen and staff acted as agents of the state party. He wrote that the party, through staff, participated in the election by recruiting candidates and directing candidates to withdraw. He wrote that staff opposed Winchester due to “a strong likelihood of losing their positions if the present chairman is not re-elected.” The central committee re-elected its chairman, Tim Schneider, on May 19. Boulton said the committee seated Rose over an objection. “We expected that,” he said. “If Winchester was sitting there rather than Rose, the outcome might have been different.” The court clerk assigned the action to District Judge Staci Yandle.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Sen. Rose ‘railroaded’ over incumbent by GOP in State Central Committeeman race, affidavit says – Karen Kidd
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511425048-sen-rose-railroaded-over-incumbent-by-gop-in-state-central-committeeman-race-affidavit-says
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Fayette County Precinct committeeman said he was “confused” by a “nomination process” in April that somehow led to a win for state Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) over Robert Winchester, the longtime incumbent in the race for Republican State Central Committeeman in the 15th Congressional District, according to an affidavit obtained by Prairie State Wire. “After this sequence of rapid nomination and voice vote on closing nominations, which in my best estimate took much less than a minute, I turned to a colleague and asked, ‘What just happened?’,” Fayette County Precinct Committeeman Glen Mills said in the affidavit filed with the Illinois Board of Elections. Mills, a Brownstown resident, said in his affidavit that he “later learned” Randy Pollard, Rauner’s downstate director who acted as chair during the convention when the election took place, “reported the vote for Fayette County as unanimous in favor of Chapin Rose.” Mills claims in his affidavit that draft minutes from the convention back up his own memories about how Rose came to win the seat on the Republican State Central Committee that had been held by Winchester since 1992. “The only word I can use to describe the election proceeding on a subjective level is that the election of Mr. Rose was intentionally ‘railroaded’ through the convention at high speed while this precinct committeeman (Mills) was confused by the process,” Mills said in his affidavit. “I do not believe I was given a fair chance to vote for Mr. Winchester in the election for State Central Committeeman for the 15th District conducted on April 18, 2018, or even the opportunity to vote ‘present’ or otherwise not have my precinct’s weighted vote be counted for Mr. Rose.” In April, sources informed Prairie State Wire that Winchester had retained counsel to launch a challenge to voting procedures in his Republican State Central Committee re-election bid. Rose, an assistant Republican caucus leader, has represented the 51st district since 2013, having previously been a member of the state House for about a decade. The Illinois state Senate’s 51st District encompasses all of Dewitt, Piatt, Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby counties and parts of McLean, Champaign, Vermilion, Edgar and Macon counties. Sources told Prairie State Wire in April that the state GOP had run Rose against the incumbent Winchester to punish Winchester for backing Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in her strong but unsuccessful March primary bid against Gov. Bruce Rauner. Earlier this month, Winchester’s attorney, Steve Boulton of Peraica & Associates in Chicago, said in a letter to state GOP General Counsel John Fogarty that the race results had been determined by a “group of unelected and merely appointed staff members” with “personal and financial interests” in the re-election of current state GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. “The procedure may have well have been employed before, but it is not properly authorized and stands in contravention of the plain language of the Election Code,” Boulton wrote in his letter. “Repetition of an unlawful practice does not make it legal. If such were true bank robbery would be legal today.” In his complaint filed in federal court, Winchester alleged the Illinois Republican party rigged the April 18 election against him. In an interview published this week in the Madison-St. Clair Record, Boulton claimed to have “a number” of affidavits that prove Winchester actually won the election. A source told the Prairie State Wire that Winchester was not even mentioned as an option by Pollard and that he’d called for a voice vote during the April 18 election. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Mills, in his affidavit, described what happened as slightly different from what the source described. Pollard, “very politically powerful in Fayette County,” supported Rose before the convention, “which was confirmed when Mr. Pollard had papers distributed to the Convention supporting Mr. Chapin (Rose), including to me, an action which I considered improper,” Mills said in his affidavit. “At the commencement of the election Mr. Pollard announced that there were two candidates for State Central Committeeman, Chapin Rose and Robert Winchester,” the affidavit said. “After announcing the candidates, Mr. Pollard immediately called for ‘nominations’ which caused me great confusion since he had just announced the two candidates. I did not know what the nominations were for, or what purpose they served, given that the candidates had just been announced.” Pollard then nominated Rose, who “received an immediate second,” the affidavit said. “I remained confused by this procedure, since the candidates were already announced by Mr. Pollard and I was trying to grasp why a nomination process was being conducted at all. In very short order, a voice vote to close nominations occurred, and Mr. Pollard declared the election over. I do not recall any actual vote for Mr. Chapin (Rose) at all.” Mills said in his affidavit that he reviewed draft minutes from the convention, a copy of which was attached to his affidavit, and found they “comport with my recollection that no election vote was actually taken.” “Further, the minutes reflect that Mr. Pollard nominated Mr. Rose only after asking for nominations three times,” the affidavit said. “This comports with my recollection that the actual sequence of from [sic] nomination of Mr. Rose to closing of nominations was very quick.” Pollard, Mills and Rose did not immediately respond to Prairie State Wire requests for comment.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Drama continues in state GOP ranks – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-chicago-fop-protest-20180521-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party held its organizational meeting Saturday and re-elected Gov. Rauner’s handpicked chairman as part of a compromise with insurgent conservatives. But despite that attempt to show unity, the battle is continuing and may end up in a federal courtroom. Bob Winchester, a former state representative from Rosiclare, had been the longest-serving member of the Republican State Central Committee, serving since 1992. Winchester is an opponent of Rauner and party Chairman Tim Schneider, and he was challenged for re-election by state Sen. Chapin Rose of Mahomet. The State Board of Elections certified Rose as the winner at a special May 10 meeting and said it didn’t have the authority to investigate what Winchester alleges were misdeeds that made Rose the victor to represent the 15th Congressional District GOP. Winchester’s attorney, Stephen Boulton, said he filed suit a week ago in Downstate Hardin County to try to stop Rose from being seated, but his office said the case was not electronically recorded as being filed until late last week, too late to prevent Rose from being seated. The lawsuit contends both the state GOP and the State Board of Elections violated Winchester’s federally constitutionally protected due process rights and that county vote totals were changed to a “false result” in favor of Rose. The Illinois GOP has filed notice to move the case to the U.S. District Court in Benton. “The Illinois Republican Party is confident that the State Central Committee elections were conducted in accordance with state law, our party bylaws, and in an open and transparent manner,” Illinois Republican Party Executive Director Andrew Collins said in a statement. “We are also confident that the results reported to the party by the county Republican central committees were accurate, that the State Board (of Elections) certification of those results was proper and that the results are now final,” Collins said.)

— An Update on the Republican State Central Committee Party Leadership Vote – John Biver and David E. Smith
https://illinoisfamilyaction.org/2018/05/an-update-on-the-republican-state-central-committee-party-leadership-vote/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican activists across the state of Illinois are concerned about the way the deal was made behind the proverbial closed doors. Many grassroots leaders have expressed concern about how this arrangement was made and the fact that the Illinois GOP SCC would choose to continue with Schneider at the helm. Moreover, we have been given zero details on how this new position of “co-chairman” would work. . .For those reasons among others, Illinois Family Action, like most conservatives across the state, continues to have no confidence in Schneider, or his sponsor, Governor Bruce Rauner. Last week IFA called for conservatives to attend the SCC meeting that takes place tomorrow. Today, it seems that since the deals have already been made, conservatives are encouraged to attend only if they want to see the spectacle. IFA also encourages grassroots conservatives to contact your state central committee member and let him or her know what think about Schneider’s failed leadership, just as you would any of your other elected officials.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Factors that discourage Illinois residents who are religious, conservative, and/or Republican from planning on attending the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee meeting in Springfield this Saturday, May 19:
– Those who want Tim Schneider reelected as IRP chairman have not asked you to attend,

– The meeting agenda might not include a public comment period,
– The meeting room might be filled to capacity before you get there,
– It appears that the Winchester v. IRP lawsuit has not been filed and that it will not be filed,
– Ives and other IRP chairman candidate Mark Shaw supporters might not be allowed to speak,
– Possibly, the meeting will be broadcast live over the internet, and
– It appears that Tim Schneider will be reelected IRP chairman no matter what.  – Dave Diersen

(FROM THE ANNOUNCEMENT: WHAT: William J. Kelly, independent candidate for Illinois Governor, will have a press conference on Friday to discuss the future of the post-Rauner Illinois GOP. Kelly also plans to speak at the Illinois GOP State Central Committee meeting on Saturday morning and will be broadcasting live from the State Central Committee meeting. Kelly has released the following statement: “The last four years have been difficult ones for those of us who sounded the warning bell on Bruce Rauner and that bell has finally been heard at a terrible cost: Illinois is now a sanctuary state and expanded taxpayer-funded abortion on demand is the law of the land. The blame is not Governor Rauner’s alone; he had help. I blame Rauner’s payroll conservatives at Illinois Policy Institute, Illinois Opportunity Project, and Liberty Principles PAC. In 2013, when Rauner announced for Governor, his history as a liberal pro-abortion, pro-amnesty Democrat donor was already well-known. Ignoring this, a number of conservative leaders and donors heralded Rauner’s coming. Illinois Policy Institute’s John Tillman and Liberty Principles PAC’s Dan Proft were well-paid to induce conservative voters to support Rauner despite his left-wing history. A number of Illinois Tea Party leaders forced Rauner on us too, attacking anyone who opposed him. For the last four years I, too, have endured the public attacks of Rauner’s payroll conservatives. However, since Rauner’s betrayal on illegal immigration and abortion, many former Raunerites have apologized to me. We need to recruit new conservative and tea party leaders to take the place of those that let us down. I am running for Illinois Governor to reform, rebuild, and redeem the Illinois Republican Party now and for the future. Please join me.”

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Here are some facts about Crete. The first settlers came to the area in 1836. The Will County town was incorporated in 1880 and the 2010 census listed its population as 8,227. In 2012, the Crete-Monee High School football team won a state championship. Crete also is home to more than 40 houses sold by Sears, making it the largest repository for these dwellings in the south suburbs, according to Phyllis Monks, president of the Crete Area Historical Society. Monks said residents were able to build “kit” homes because trains made frequent stops at the local depot, leaving all that was needed to build one in two boxcars.)

I bought a one bedroom condo in 1976 and a studio condo in 1974 in downtown Chicago so that I could walk to work and to night classes. I bought a new town home in 1972 when I worked in Harvey. I asked Firestone Stores to assign me to its Chicago Heights Store in 1970 when I was living with my mother and brother in Crete.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-met-chicago-segregation-report-20180511-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Moore wanted to move closer to work but said he could not afford the rent at apartments on the Northwest Side or nearby suburbs that would have made his commute more manageable. And even if he could, Moore said he often felt out of place in the predominantly white neighborhoods. “It’s almost like being an alien, you know,” Moore said. “It’s like, do I belong here?” Moore, who lives in North Lawndale, eventually found work as a community organizer in a job that reduced his travel time by more than half. Moore’s hunt for affordable housing, a shorter commute and a different neighborhood are among the elements highlighted in the Metropolitan Planning Council’s new report on the Chicago region’s segregation, which offers a buffet of initiatives that take aim at entrenched racism and inequities holding back the region.)

PEOPLE’S WORLD
— How free is the free press in Trump’s America? – BARBARA RUSSUM (DIERSEN: If my critics/opponents could stop my Civil Service Retirement System pension, my federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidy, my Medicare, and/or my Social Security to stop me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out, they certainly would have done that by now. https://www.peoplesworld.org/article/how-free-is-the-free-press-in-trumps-america/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: There is an old saying, “He who pays the piper calls the tune,” meaning that someone who provides the money has the right to determine what it is spent on. In journalism these days it has taken on a sinister connotation for everything from censoring school newspapers to the firing and even murder of outspoken journalists. Here in the U.S. we like to reflect on the concept of a free press as written into the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. But President Donald Trump describes journalists who offer anything but fawning coverage of him and his administration as “enemies of the people.” Another president, Richard Nixon, also once declared, “The press is the enemy.” Carl Bernstein, one of the Washington Post reporters who exposed Nixon’s Watergate scandal in the 1970s, says Trump’s rhetoric is similar to Nixon’s in that he is “trying to divide the country, and make the conduct of the press the issue, instead of the conduct of the president.” The Trump administration is trying to get the public to buy the idea that when a newspaper or television network reports anything that is at all unflattering to the president that newspaper or network is automatically displaying its bias. “In Donald Trump’s America,” said the Los Angeles Times in an editorial, “the mere act of reporting news unflattering to the president is held up as evidence of bias. Journalists are slandered. Facts that contradict Trump’s version of reality are dismissed as ‘fake news.’ Reporters and their news organizations are ‘pathetic,’ ‘very dishonest,’ ‘failing,’ and even, in one memorable turn of phrase, ‘a pile of garbage.’” While Trump aims his fire at even objective reporting that shines light on negative features of his administration, not all newspapers, television networks and other media outlets are placed on his enemies list. Some, like Fox News, shower praise on the president almost round the clock and he rewards them with frequent exclusive interviews. It is impossible to avoid the conclusion that a big difference between the networks and outlooks he likes and the ones he opposes correlates to who owns those various networks and outlets. It goes without saying that the high costs of putting out the news favors billionaires to become owners of huge chunks of print and broadcasting media and it is not always easy to keep track of who owns what. Recent headlines provide an example of how it can get confusing: “Comcast prepares all-cash bid to gate-crash Disney-Fox deal,” or “Disney Could Give Up Sky to Get Fox Assets.” Another fact is that big money doesn’t just limit itself to controlling editorial policy. At times it goes after the ability of newspapers to even continue to exist. Clarity about the nature of what goes on in a world where big money influences journalism was the aim of a May 8 Democracy Now show with Amy Goodman and Juan González. They talked about how rank and file journalists are rising up against a Wall Street hedge fund that is chewing up and spitting out newsrooms across the country. Alden Global Capital, a hedge fund, owns Digital First media, the nation’s second largest newspaper chain.)
